Important Staff Update 2024

Here at Pellon Tyre and Auto Centre, we have recently had significant changes in our staffing level.

So, this has been necessary because of the tragic and unforseen death of my dear wife and business partner, Michelle Roberts. Of course, I say sudden, but in reality, Michelle has been suffering from the dreaded MND for the past three tears.

Michelle was extremely popular and important to all our members of staff. Especially to the long-term staff that have known Michelle for years. Michelle started out with me on my first business project, which was a tyre retail company we first set up many years ago. The company was called Kut-Kost Tyres in Birstall, West Yorkshire, and is now one of the many Kwik-Fit depots across the country.

This was forty-odd years ago, and it was also the beginning of a blossoming love affair between Michell and myself (Eric Roberts). At this point, Michelle set up our paperwork system and also carried out her work as a company director. Happy days indeed. We were soon married and started our family, which was to end with eight children.

Eventually, we sold Kut-Kost

and the business ended up as a Kwik-Fit depot. After six months, we both missed the busy life of running our own business. After some searching, we were able to sow the seeds of a new business, which was to become Pellon Tyre and Autocentre in Halifax.

So, apart from looking after our growing family, Michelle also became our company secretary, taking care of the paperwork, wages, etc. Debby Bastow, Michelle’s sister, then joined us at this point. Debby was a very competitive young lady, and our new venture began to take off. After a few years of trading and various structural changes to the building, we became probably the best tyre centre in the area.

Also joining us was a young man by the name of Ryan Linton. I am not sure about the time period but Ryan was soon to prove to me that he had special knowledge about cars and the motor trade in general. Ryan was soon to become management material, and his knowledge and enthusiasm made me realise that he would become a business manager and help improve Pellon Tyres even further in the coming years.

Ryan was also to become an MOT tester as we improved the business, which was soon to include car servicing and car repairs. Meanwhile, we had been caught up with the internet and decided to sell batteries online with our website, www.batteriesontheweb.co.uk.

This was to become another of Michelles important additions to our business.

Michelle decided to open our new venture, which was to become our “batteries on the web” Ebay shop.Michelle set up and worked on the shop for hours on end, and we soon became successful in the battery world, thanks to her hard work and dedication.

Other members of our present staff are now also long-term employees, including Ryan’s nephew Dale Linton, now our long-term and highly trusted MOT tester. Adam Dale is now our long-term tyre fitter. Alex Bray is also a long-term and now-established mechanic and servicing guy.Other members of staff are also important, but like most businesses, we have a certain amount of staff coming and going.

However, none of us were prepared for the disaster that was about to hit us all. Michelle, as I said, contracted MND and soon became incapable of taking any more part in our family business. We were all devastated and still are. Michelle finally passed away on March 18th, 2024.

but unfortunately, we have had to move on. Changes had to be made, but unfortunately, because of my high regard for my staff, this was an easy choice. Consequently, Debby and Ryan would be promoted to the highest level. Debby Bastow is now company secretary, and Ryan Linton has now become company director.

As a small business, this doesn’t make much difference to our great customer care. i still regard Pellon Tyre and Autocentre as the the most prominent business of its kind in the Halifax and Calderdale area.Of course, we are still offering the best service and prices to customers, new and old. Google reviews are a testament to this.
