Of course, when buying a brand new car. So,  most car companies have car servicing special offers. Included with the car warranty. Significantly, this is not always a good idea. Naturally, you can take your car to the garage that you trust for Unipart Car Servicing. Of course, without it affecting your warranty.

But you need to follow the car servicing maintenance schedule. According to the service book. Consequently, if this is not kept up to date your warranty will become void. Specifically, you should not take for granted the care of your car. Hence,us humans need a regular check up to the doctors while cars need regular servicing and check-ups from Unipart Car Servicing.

Car Will Not Start-It Could be Your Cars Battery is flat and needs a replacement.

Car Will Not Start

Car Will Not Start; Its usually your battery that fails

In these days of busy motorists having to get up to work earlier than ever, there is nothing worse than turning the car key and strange noises come from under your vehicle’s bonnet because of your CAR Won’t START! Or even worse still no noises at all. This usually happens on the first cold day of Autumn, and here in Car Will Not Startthe UK, this is usually October.

This October has been no exception. With some motorists calling us because their car will not start. This occurrence is an all too common phenomenon. Thus, even if you maintain your car at regular intervals. Therefore, there is no real way of telling when your engine will let you down. (unless your service centre gives you a 12 Volt Battery test report and you act on the findings). So, you can be sure that it is when you less expect it to, or you are on your way to that special occasion and when you turn the key, nothing happens, just a loud grating noise or a whirring sound from under your bonnet and your CAR Won’t START. You always fear the worse, but we find that on 90% of the time, then the problem is usually simple.

The system that enables your car to start is a relatively straightforward thing to understand. In most basic cars the ignition system works as such. When you turn your ignition switch, your batteries stored voltage travels to the ignition switch, it then goes to the next component which is the starter relay and the starter motor. This voltage then spins the starter motor which engages its gears into the gears of the flywheel, thus turning the cars engine over.

Car Will Not Start

If everything else in the engine is in good working order. Hence, the car has enough of the right fuel in the tank, then the car will start, and off you go.

Other less common reasons why your car may not start, could be no fuel, not enough spark to your engine cylinders, loose battery terminals, damaged starter wires, but it will be your battery that fails.

Your battery faults could be picked up on a regular service

In general the older your car, the more chance you have of the battery letting you down. Japanese car batteries usually last for about five or six years from new and European cars three to four years, so if your vehicle is of this kind of age you could expect yours to fail.  We at Pellonautocentre test batteries when your car has a service, reporting the battery condition on the service checklist, most customers act on this recommendation and will have a new one fitted, so alleviating any following problems.

Motorcodes Membership- Give garages a better standard and Excellent Control for consumer satisfaction

The UK authorities that regulate garage services and repairs here in the UK.Thus, have at last come up with a better way to control bad practice throughout the UK motor industry. Many systems were implicated in trying to regulate garage services.Including, repairers and car sales outlets for un- lawful practices. But this did not stop dodgy traders from breaking the rules. So and taking their customers to the cleaners.hence,  by not carrying out the correct repairs or not doing the work they were expected to do. Some garages were supposed to conduct garage services, but Motorcodes Membershipnever even touched the car, a complete rip off.

Most people have heard of horror stories. Therefore, the motor industry has had bad press. I personally as an “honest” garage owner do not think this will ever change.I think there will always be dodgy dealers in the motor trade.Consequently, willing to rip people off. Motorcodes will help ease this problem with higher standards set for the garage business.

Over the years many different organisations have come formed trying to regulate the garage trade. But it seems that their members are always joined by the same, ” Good garages“. The majority of garages and car dealers and auto centres are honest and genuine people, who are just out to earn a decent living. Especially in the private sector.

Motorcodes Membership

Most garage owners are very hard working individuals. Thus, who run their businesses honestly. Hence, offering the “local community” an excellent and honest deal on garage services.  One of the first “regulatory bodies” to control garages. Was “Trading Standards”. Garages who joined could attend meetings at a local facilities. Therefore, to discuss ways and means to offer a better garage services, but this did not stop the bad guys, as they only did not join, I think though that this was a move in the right direction.

However due to the recession. Because of the Government cut backs in the nineties. This scheme was scrapped to be, and other private organisation sprung up, These were driven by companies that were also promoting garage services products, such as oils and other engine products, in other words, you had to buy their goods to be in the club. In my opinion, this was not a satisfactory situation, and many of these schemes fell by the wayside.

“Motorcodes Membership” is a better system that helps to create an improved image for the motor trade and garage services, this time, I have a feeling it will be more successful.

M-O-T Testing Advice- For Diesel Engine Car Owners

Updated 12th May 2014

M-O-T Testing Advice;Pellon tyre and Autocentre offer advice for M.O.T testing for diesel owners.

M-O-T Testing Advice says. That the  first thing to do before having your diesel engined car in for a test. Is to read a free leaflet from VOSA, that is available from your local M.O.T centre.
This DVLA Rules leaflet. Will show the M-O-T Testing Advice to do and look out for during the “diesel smoke testing” part of the test.
This part of the test is very important. It helps the environment by testing the smoke emissions given out by your car. This helps to minimize the pollution and the fuel efficiency of your car. The test also checks that your car engine is working correctly. Therefore, so reduces waste, “the black smoke that you see coming from a

M-O-T Testing Advice

M-O-T Testing Advice;Popular MOT Test sign seen throughout the UK

diesel engine”.
The important M-O-T Testing Advice when introducing a diesel car to the M.O.T test. Is to make sure that the car is well maintained at all times.Because,a regular oil and filter changes are always a good thing on diesel engine cars.
You must have your cam belt monitored. Also changed at the recommended periods,(most good garages will help you and advise you about your camshaft replacement periods). Here at Pellon Autocentre we advice every car presented with a service. This helps our customers plan ahead. For this reason, and not suffer the problem of a broken belt and a possible damaged engine.

Before your diesel M.O.T test

Prior to your test, it is advisable to give your car a short run , this will warm your engine and therefore produce less smoke during the test, some people also put a diesel additive into the car before the diesel test.It is important that you do not mess with the governor settings as these are set to help your car engine run efficiently. When the time comes to do the smoke test the tester will check the oil temperature, this is to ensure that the engine is warm enough to carry out the test.

The tester will then proceed to accelerate the engine until the engines governor kicks in, he will do this up to a maximum of six times. This often scares customers who are watching the test, but the tester will not hold the engine at full speed for any long length of time.
This part of the M-O-T Testing Advice is very important.” If your car has been properly maintained the test should not cause any damage to your engine”, if you are not sure of the condition of your car engine you should tell the tester before he continues with this part of the test. M.O.T Testers are not responsible for the condition of your engine prior to the test it is your responsibility.
I hope that this part of the test explains more to you and is informative, Pellon Autocentre carry out M.O.T testing in Halifax.

Most cars need a major annual service, and in our belief, depending on the mileage should have one or even two what we call “engine services” a year especially diesel engined vehicles.
The oil and filter require changing and the rest of the levels topped up. Cars over three years old could and perhaps should have the primary service carried out at the same time as the MOT test.

Eric Roberts MD of Pellon-auto centre has recently attended a regional meeting of Unipart Car Care Centres (UCCC). This was in a hotel in Wakefield West Yorkshire. New plans that mean that Pellon Autocentre Joins Unipart was unveiled to upgrade their new image to the garage members.

UCCC Members will be offered complete new signage. Consequently, by using Unipart’s new updated logo. This logo is very similar to the present one. Because it appeared that only a slight modification to upgrade. Eric Roberts says “The new image looks very stylish. Although there is not lots of change, the new design will look very useful. Especially, when bonded together with all the other promotional effects that will be on offer to us.

Our garages images are in the Unipart style and colours.”
Unipart will still provide their garage network with their website design service to help its individual garages build their website. This service will be subsidised by Unipart, rolling on from the old system. This offer has been taken up by over 500 garages and has become a favourite feature to the garages in the scheme.
Motorcodes will still play a significant part in Unipart’s big changes; this will ensure an excellent standard of quality across the complete network. Therefore, is crucial when offering a nationwide warranty service to the networks customers.

Pellon Autocentre Joins Unipart

A brand new feature will be the introduction of Ben Collins, (the former “sting” from Top Gear motoring programme on TV). Ben will be helping promote the Car Care Centres at a national and local levels, holding regular events across the country.
Another new feature will be the introduction of more training facility. Garages participating will have the use of Uniparts technical helpline and training staff support. “This Pellon Autocentre Joins Unipart service will be of great use to participating garages such as ourselves,” says Eric Roberts.
Unipart will be revamping the existing web site. This website will be fully optimised, and search engine friendly. Links to participating members websites. Furthermore, offering the partners a right online image with facilities to offer online service and MOT booking.

Furthermore, the new work-wear was also on display for the garage owners to browse over and the meeting concluded with a buffet. Unipart’s marketing director Wendy Williams conducted the meeting in a very professional manner, and it felt that all the participating centre members in attendance, were looking forward to the new changes with great anticipation.

Each month, Motorcodes releases figures on a variety of customer satisfaction ratings.

We think this is important, to demonstrate transparency both to potential garage clients and to the authorities. As Motor Codes subscription has expanded, our Code Survey helps explain that this growth is about much more than putting a badge on the garage doors, with no regulation.
The good news, as you’ll see in the table below, is that January’s figures show that the high standards set for subscribing service and repair centres are being maintained. Amongst the numbers is a notable 95% customer recommendation rate – probably the most important statistic of all and one that bodes well for business within the network.

This is no doubt going to be one of the most successful consumer protection schemes that were brought out in the garage World. In the past, we only had the Trading Standards system to protect the motorist from been let’s say “taken for a ride”, by corrupt and dodgy garage owners. In the last few years various Government schemes had been tried out here in the UK, and to an extent, there have been some real systems. Most of these though were tied to buying car servicing products, which in my mind did not stop with the spirit of things.

We in the garage trade needed a transparent system to link up the garage with the customer, in a case of any disputes that may arrive during the service or repair of the client’s car. Motorcodes came along and in my mind was the ideal vehicle to sort out any differences that may have risen while the garage was in charge of repairing their car.

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network

Also, other things were in the Motorcodes good practice scheme. One of them is that each participating garage must have regular inspections. These include a fair pricing system that is transparent to the motorist. We at Pellon Autocentre in Halifax UK, do not carry out any work to a customer’s car. This is unless the client is notified of the price and understands  about the work that we are carrying out, if they are any ad don’s that were not foreseen, then the customer will be contacted again, and we will explain the reason for the extra charge, this way there should be no surprises when the client receives their final invoice.

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network

Another Motorcodes safeguard is that we must keep the old parts to show the customer what we have fitted for a 24 hr period before final disposal, this also includes any service parts

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network

That we may have changed, this makes the whole thing transparent and ensures tiny disputes or falling out with the customer, we are all aware that repairing cars can be a distressing time for customer when they leave their vehicle with you, so all this good code of practice, helps towards a better all round experience for the under pressure motorists all part of being a member of Motorcodes, in my opinion, the best garage standard organisation out there at the moment and we at Pellon are proud to be members.

Car Servicing-Halifax-UK-Some advice about keeping your car in good and safe condition

Car Servicing-Halifax-UK; Many motorists have major problems when it comes to  car servicing,

Car Servicing-Halifax-UK; Most cars need an annual” major servicing”, and in my belief depending on mileage should have one or even two what I call “engine servicing” every year.  This, as a rule, means the oil and filter changed  and the rest of the levels topped up. Cars over three years old could and perhaps should have the main service carried out at the same time as the MOT test.

Your garage should advise you to have test carried out prior to the servicing, this is always best practice and is recommended by the Ministry of Transport as the correct procedure. It also gives you control of your purse strings, indeed,  what you should do is instruct the garage to notify you of any failures that the test may throw up. You must also ask your garage to give you an estimate of the cost of repairs to your car to get your car through the test.
Many customers of servicing centres do this because if the cost of your repair schedule is high, you may not be able to afford to have the car serviced, indeed you can then cancel the service for a later time when you can afford to have the servicing carried out. The finest practice though is to have the test and the service carried out on the same day. This will ensure that you car will be in tip top condition for your summer holidays or indeed that harsh winter to come.

Look for a Unipart servicing centre

Car Servicing-Halifax-UK

Car Servicing-Halifax-UK

Most accomplished garages  carry out servicing  cars to a high standard. They will carry out menu servicing according to the manufacturers advice. Indeed many garages and auto centres use a servicing  menu. That is specialized for your car by typing your registration number into an  automotive computer. Using software that prints out the exact service menu for your car. This also tells the engineer the exact type of oils to use.  This is essential due the different types of oil now used in up to date car engines. Another benefit of using this technology. Is that the processor will recommend on the time or mileage it takes before your cam belt requires changing. This, in turn, should come in the form of recommendation written as an advisory on your “work to do  sheet”.

Car Servicing-Halifax

Another good piece of advice is that if you are new to an area. You do not know where to have your car serviced it look for a garage carrying the MotorCodes Code Of Practise sign .This will ensure that you will get reasonable prices for a service and repairs.Because the garage has been checked for good practice and procedures by the RAC of Great Britain. Therefore any quality control procedures by the auto centre should give you confidence enough that if any problems occur. Consequently they will be dealt with in a fair and correct conduct. In general, any garage you carries out MOT testing,  are generally up to a good quality and are also regulated  and  controlled by the Vehicle Standards Agency.

Car Servicing Tips

Car Servicing Tips-Six Easy Steps for Avoiding Expensive Car Repairs by sticking to basics

Car Servicing Tips; Car repairs need not be that expensive

Significantly, a visit to your local car repairs shop can be even more stressful. Say  than a visit to your local dentist. Perhaps you wont suffer physical pain. But sometimes your car repairs bill. Frighteningly, can leave your wallet or purse feeling pretty empty. Including, leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth.

Car Servicing Tips

Car Servicing Tips; Dale one of our MOT Testers checking the brake flued on a vehicle at our Halifax Garage

The best way to try and avoid costly repairs. So, is to take preventative maintenance measures and  Car Servicing Tips that will keep your car in the best condition possible.

The foremost thing that you should do is to follow the car manufacturers maintenance schedule. Of course, that will be outlined in your owner’s manual. The best guidelines are always always the ones that are recommended.Of course, by the manufacturer and if you fail to follow those guidelines. Your warranty may be voided for future repairs. Although here in Europe. You are allowed to have your car repairs and  servicing. So, carried out by a reputable garage, that uses original equipment service parts and oils by law. So, without breaking your warranty agreement. Importantly, a reputable garage would be one that operates under the MotorCodes schemes or an MOT testing station.

Always be sure to change fluids

Naturally, such as your brake fluid, all the filters and spark plugs (if fitted) to what the car’s manufacturer recommends. It is also a good idea to upgrade your motor oil to a higher performance synthetic oil, which can help to prevent certain problems and can also improve your car’s overall performance. We keep in several types of oil for servicing as specifications are changing all the time but using synthetic oil is not a bad thing and will cover most modern engines.

Always be sure that your tyres are correctly inflated. This is especially important, because tyres with too little air, or too much, can result in excessive wear with bad handling and may cause a tyre to blow out. It is often recommended that your tyre pressures are checked during every other visit to the petrol station. While this may seems excessive, you won’t be sorry that you have kept your tyres correctly inflated and therefore safer. For reasons of both safety and the expense of new tyres, the extra effort is well worth it.

If you notice any unusual noises coming from your car, whilst driving along check with your owner’s manual for information. Quite often, noises are perfectly normal and there is no need for concern. Your owner’s manual information section will let you know whether or not a visit to the Auto-centre is necessary.

Use a reputable garage for your car repairs

If you find that you do have to take your vehicle in for some Car Repair Advice, be sure that you are dealing with a reputable local company. Check with the other local people and ask your family or friends for recommendations. Also look out for your local Unipart Car Care Centre (UCCC), as they have very high standards to qualify for membership, and a nationwide warranty system, for if problems occur see your Local Car Repair Garages.
