Tyre makers have done many different experiments.Especially, with rubber compound mixes. Thus, to try and improve the rolling resistance of tyres. These compounds reduce the friction between the road surface and the tyres. Whilst at the same time retain the tyres grip. These compounds have been produced by companies.hence, such as General tyres, sold here in the UK. The new compounds also reduce the tyres weight. Naturally, and help in the total weight of the car.

I have recently started to write about tyres and batteries. Thus, by adding the name of the car makers into the title. Of course, many drivers that are looking things up on say Google, will put in the brand name of their car. For this reason, I have included the name of the car used in the winter tyre test as an “Audi”.

This makes sense to me. Audi owners will want to know how their specific car performs using specific products. In this case, General winter tyres. Naturally, I am watching this carefully, but I do think that it works and sometimes I will also add the model as in this case the “A4”.

I also think it is a great idea for regular drivers. Hence, to send in videos, regarding the performance of their cars in snowy conditions. As a result with a certain product helping their car to perform in bad conditions. General Altimax are made by the giant Continental Tyre group, throughout Europe and the USA. They are available in the Halifax area of the UK from Pellon Tyres.

More and more tyre manufacturer.Hence, are going down the “green” road. Thus, striving to make their car tyres more fuel efficient. Therefore, as part of the drive to make cars more environmentally friendly. Tyres are very important.Especially, in the drive to increase better fuel efficiency. I seem to remember a similar thing that was launched in the 1980s.Hence,  when tyre manufacturers started to bring out tyres.Naturally, with a different aspect ratio and less rolling resistance. As a result became the buzz word for the people that worked in the tyre trade. All the major car tyres makers. Thus,  claimed that their car tyres went further and lasted longer.Than any of their competitor’s tyres. But things settled back down.Accordingly, the green issue was put to one side.Until a new upsurge in interest in the environment. As a result, the need to make claims of a greener tyre again from the major tyre makers.

General Tyres Lighter Weight

Tyre makers have done many different experiments.Especially, with rubber compound mixes. Thus, to try and improve the rolling resistance of tyres. Motorists just think that a “tyre is a tyre”. Therefore, just a black lump a rubber. But billions of dollars are spent on research and development.Hence, by the major tyre companies. To improve their green image. This is one of the reasons for a difference between cheap budget ones that are made by the big companies such as Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental and Michelin to name a few.

One of the new materials that are added to car tyres compounds these days is Silica,

This is the main material. That helps achieve a much lower rolling resistance. This and a greater understanding of tread design and technology. Have moved tyre design along in “leaps and bounds”. The new tyre designs help the cars soak up energy from the road by staying at cooler temperatures than their earlier counterparts. These new rubber compounds and tread design have made these modern General Tyres Lighter Weight and quieter, with far less road noise coming through to the car’s cockpit. I hope that this article helps people understand the amount of work that goes on in the constant updating of this product, and all this has to be worked in with the cost of the car tyres.

4×4 Tyres-Which are the right ones for you ? Consider the excellent General 4×4 Range

Customers are still not sure which 4×4 tyres to choose

4x4 Tyres

This article is a follow up from one that I did a few years ago. One of the problems that we have at Pellon tyres, comes from the owners of 4×4 vehicles who are not sure which or what tyres to fit to their vehicles.

In our area of Halifax in the Pennine foothills, we have several types of different terrains to cope with. Choosing the right tyre can be difficult.

Every tyre a manufacturer makes is designed with specific strengths in mind. How well it performs to these strengths depends on the construction methods, materials used and the technologies applied in the design and testing process. 4×4 tyres by definition introduce even more variables than these into the mixing pot. For our area we recommend a 50/50 or a 40/60 tread ratio between a normal type summer tyre and a rugged off road tyre. To make it a little easier to select the right one, a good place to start is to think about what you intend to use your 4×4 for. Many people used to say the Land rover as just a status car, where others such as farmers need Land-rovers for more practical uses, so a different tyre application is needed.

If you are intending to use your vehicle off road then you need to determine just how extreme the terrain is likely to be and how much time you are likely to spend on it. Farmers would be doing far more off road work and therefore would require a much heavier tread pattern on the tyres.

Off Road Grading Index for 4×4 tyres selection

To help our customers we use a very good visual guide called an (off road Grading Index) or ORGI for short, and then grade all the 4×4 tyres accordingly on our stock compute so that we can tell customers exactly which tyre is the best for them. The ORGI guide assigns every 4X4 Off Road tyres we feature with an off-road competency rating between 1 & 10. From here it is possible to disregard certain tyres as unsuitable and narrow the field of selection down. It works of an easy to understand scale from 1 to 10 depending on how tough you want your tyre to be, an excellent grading system. I hope this will be of help to all my customers who own 4×4 and SUV vehicles and want General 4×4 tyres.

All Season Tyres

As a tyre dealer for the past 40 years I think that all-season tyres are now a no-brainer!

So, these type of tyres can give the driver excellent protection in all types of weather. Of course our weather trends are now giving us very wet conditions.

So, all-weather tyres are fitted to all my vehicles, cars and vans. Hence, when driving in the wet conditions that I feel totally confident that the tyre are going to keep me safe. Especially the use of the General all-weather tyres.

general tyre give me complete confidence when driving through flooded roads in winter and summer. Of course the tread on these tyres is tougher than the regular summer tyres. Accordingly the all-weather do wear out a little quicker.

However, if you are a careful driver then this becomes negligible. So, this attached article gives drivers an in depth comparison. Thus between the different tyre types available. Finally, I still think that genuine winter tyre are better for countries who experience cold snowing weather. But in general the all-weather tyres are great for all year use and much safer for driving on rain soaked motorways.

Try Different General 4×4 Tyres-The tyre manufacturers have worked closely with the vehicle manufacturer to ensure that the best level of performance and comfort can be achieved in the tyres that they provide.

Most motorist spends most of their time on the normal tarmac roads, the tyres fitted to a vehicle at the factory are also made to provide a certain amount of off-road capability, but the main priorities will be for stability at speed, good steering control and very low noise on the road.

Many off-road 4×4 tyres will perform very well on the normal tarmac roads, but they have a very heavy tread and can be much noisier and the ride can be bumpier and less comfortable. This varies according to the specific 4×4 tyre and the patterns used in the 4×4 tyres tread design.

So these good road tyres are not the correct product for the 4×4 tyres drivers who have more individual needs and bigger aspirations. This includes the owners of ultra-high-performance vehicles who require the highest grip possible or 4×4 owners that need to venture off the road for more fun ?

Whether you are going off road to enjoy wide open spaces, across lanes and streams or scrambling across the specific terrain, for work or sport, correct tyre selection becomes very important and a whole host of new things has to be considered. Remember that road surfaces are tarmac. Off-road surfaces can be hugely different, from muddy fields, peat bogs to rocky ridges, they all offer a more challenging experience if you fit the correct 4×4 tyres on your vehicle.

MAKE SURE YOU GET the RIGHT 4×4 tyres

Choosing the incorrectly sized tyre with a less aggressive tread pattern can mean danger as well as being costly to your pocket and will reduce your tyre performance. For example fitting a mud terrain 4×4 tyre to your vehicle will give excellent levels of grip in the extreme “off road” conditions, but will cause a huge increase in your braking distances and will reduce steering responsiveness. An all round bad experience for you and your vehicle.

You may not always be able to fit a more aggressive tyre in your size it is not always possible to fit the most appropriate tyre for your needs by using the original tyre size recommended for the vehicle. General Van Tyres- Well known German tyre company Bring Out New “VAN TYRE”

General Van Tyres

Euro Van 2 new tyre from General Van Tyres

General tyres (part of the Continental tyre group) are keeping up in the lucrative van tyre market with a splendid new tyre, the Euro Van 2 tyre. The market for this product is huge, with the massive increase in the modern van market surging ahead.

Tyre manufacturers. Have now to make heavy duty versions of new car tyres. Because of the speed and comfort, that the new vans are capable of doing. Therefore, gone are the days of the smoky old diesel vans. Chugging along, holding the rest of the traffic up. For this, reason, these days vans can out perform, many cars and the tyres need to be of higher speed. Thus and load ratings. To cope with the extra performance that these modern vans can supply. General Van Tyres have taken all this into consideration.

The new General tyres Euro van is no exception. The newly developed tread pattern helps give the tyre higher mileage and better traction giving the tyre excellent handling on dry roads and a more improved braking performance.

General Van Tyres

For better comfort. General Van Tyres have developed the tyre with staggered tread grooves. Thus, on the shoulder reducing the noise. Giving a better comfort level to the driver. Noise reduction is also important for the green credibility of the tyre. In particular. With the new tyre labels coming out soon. Hence, that gives all tyres noise pollution levels. naturally, to help verify how green the tyre is.

As far as van tyres go this General Van Tyres product is one of the best van tyres that I have come across. People think that there is not much difference performance wise in van tyres, but they would be wrong in thinking that. The most important thing is to look at whatever make of tyres that you have on your van. The van tyre market is one of the most neglected of all the tyre markets. Van drivers usually work for other people, and they do not look after their tyres. So having a good brand of General Van Tyres in the first place is critical, because they are going to get abused, running at low and high pressures at high speeds are usually the norm for the van, only coming to garages when the need replacing due to lack of care.

The new General tyres van tyre will cover almost 90% of van tyre sizes

Which 4×4 Tyres

General tyres have always been part of the British and American tyre market. They are now part of the Continental tyre group based in Germany, but for many years they held their own in the Worlds tyre market. They originated in Akron by two businessmen W.F.O Neil and W.E.Fouse.

By the time that General tyres were making tyres in 1915. There were more than 300 other companies making tyres. Hence, this was due to the massive increase in road traffic volumes in both Europe and America. Consequently, things were moving at a rapid rate. For this reason, by the early 1920 s and 30 s people were starting to race cars in competitions. Therefore, tyre development started running ahead. General tyres were no different. Because they then decided to make premium replacement tyres. Hence, for the after car market. The first ones from General tyres were bias belted car ones. These tyres became imported into Britain.

General tyres were a very innovative company inventing carbon black latex and oil extended rubber.  They secured orders from all the leading truck companies for their great truck tyres.

Popular General Grabber Tyres

The tyres were very modern, and at the outbreak of World War 2, General tyres secured contracts to supply Popular General Grabber Tyres to vehicle manufacturers as original equipment. General tyres became a much sought after business, and it was no surprise that the tyre section of the firm was bought by the German tyre giant Continental tyres. This acquisition took part in 1987 and made Continental the fourth largest tyre company in the World.

One of the main reasons is value for money. My customers tell me that the performance of the two tyre makers is very similar, but the Popular General Grabber Tyres are now a cheaper tyre to buy and so are proving more popular here at the end of 2014.
