Eric Roberts’ Motoring News
Welcome to Eric Roberts’ Motoring News
Welcome to Eric Roberts’ Motoring News, a brand-new section of the Pellon Tyres website where I share the latest developments from the motor industry, explained in plain English.
Having worked in the tyre and motor trade for almost 60 years, I have seen enormous changes. When I first started as a young apprentice in Yorkshire during the 1960s, cars were simple machines. There were no computers, no electric vehicles, no driver assistance systems and certainly no internet.
Today, modern vehicles are packed with technology. Electric cars, hybrid systems, advanced safety equipment, connected diagnostics and ever-changing Government regulations are all transforming the way we drive and maintain our vehicles.
It can sometimes feel overwhelming for the average motorist.
That is exactly why I created this page.
Motoring News Without the Technical Jargon: Eric Roberts’ Motoring News
Every week there seems to be another story about changing MOT regulations, electric vehicles, tyre technology, road tax, emissions, fuel prices or new safety systems.
Unfortunately, many of these articles are written using technical language that leaves motorists scratching their heads.
My aim is different.
I want to explain what these changes actually mean for ordinary drivers across Halifax, Calderdale and the rest of the UK.
Whether you’re driving your family to school, commuting to work or planning a holiday, I’ll try to explain the facts in a straightforward and honest way.
Real Experience Matters
One advantage of having spent almost six decades in the motor trade is that I have lived through many of the biggest changes the industry has ever seen.
I’ve watched the change from cross-ply tyres to modern ultra-high-performance tyres.
I’ve seen carburettors disappear and computer-controlled engines take their place.
I’ve worked through the arrival of ABS brakes, airbags, tyre pressure monitoring systems, hybrid vehicles and now fully electric cars.
Each new development has changed the way garages work, and every change has brought new opportunities to improve vehicle safety and reliability.
My Promise: Eric Roberts’ Motoring News
One thing I promise is that I will always write honestly.
If I think a new piece of technology genuinely benefits motorists, I’ll say so.
If I believe a proposal could create unnecessary confusion or extra costs, I’ll explain why.
My opinions are based on practical experience gained from working with thousands of customers and repairing thousands of vehicles over many years.
There is no technical jargon here—just straightforward advice from someone who has spent a lifetime in the motor trade.
