Nokian Winter Tyres

Nokian Winter Tyres

The compound on the Nokian Winter Tyres, is generated from computers to provide the tyres with tread pattern with, high-void all-terrain pattern with interlocking tread blocks. This is also backed by placing the sipes in a way that rejects and throws out pieces of grit and gravel. At one time tyres with many sipes would also be noisy when driving on normal tarmac roads. The Nokian Winter Tyres, with all their siping can now run much quieter, on normal tarmac roads, due to the computer design.

Nokian Winter Tyres Winners

This winter is becoming one of the best years for our customers buying their first set of winter tyres.(Nokian Winter Tyres Winners)

It is probably due to the fact that we have had a run of cold snowy winters. Over the past three or four years and the need for winter tyres are slowly sinking in. We also have a large Polish community in the Halifax area. Of course this is where where my tyre-centre is situated.Polish people are familiar with the need for winter tyres. In fact I think it may now be compulsory in Poland to fit winter tyres from November to march. Hence, the same as some other European countries.

Which winter tyres ?

We have found over the years that as an independent tyre retailer, most customers think in two ways. Either they know exactly what they want, or they will take our recommendations. Of course, as to which brand and at what price to pay for their tyres.

Nokian Winter Tyres

Scenes like this will be common in the UK the first week of March 2018

The majority of our customers come to us on word of mouth recommendations. Because they have received good advice and service in the past. Subsequently, we know this because we do not advertise as such. Perhaps, only through social media sites and internet directories.

In the past when our profit margins were higher we would regularly take out full page ads in the local papers, costing us an arm and a leg, we never really knew if the ads paid off or not.Yokohama Winter Tyres

We have and still do sell many different brands of tyres including winter tyres. In the past two years we have been able to buy our tyres from the major tyre companies because we are a member of a buying group known as Point-S tyres.

Nokian Winter Tyres Winners

We were very happy to open an account with Nokian Winter Tyres . Because we knew from experience that this company made excellent tyres, including winter tyres. This will be our third year selling Nokian Winter Tyres Winners and we are pleased with the very good response we had from the drivers who have experienced these tyres in winter conditions. The Halifax area is very hilly, we are in the foothills of the Pennine mountain range and therefore we have very tricky roads. Especially in winter snowy conditions.

The latest car to arrive for a set of four Nokian Winter Tyres was a Land Rover-Freelander 2-GS-TD4. This nice looking car had a set of four 235/65R17 108H  Winter tyres. It’s great when you love the job that you are doing and can write about it in our company blog.

Winter Tyres Safety Benefits

Fitting winter tyres on your car will be one of the safest things that you will ever do? In very deep snow there are a few other driving tips that will help you on your journey.

Firstly, even with the confidence of having winter tyre fitted, then stay at home if the snow is falling heavily. So, if you are out and about when the snow starts then it is another matter.

In order to avoid sliding while driving in the snow. So, you need to steer your car towards the slide direction. Now you do not have to worry about  keeping safe while driving in the snow.

in fact using your gears and steering is the only way. braking can only make things worse. Before setting out in snow then the first thing that you need to do is to check out the condition of your car.

You have to make sure that your car is in a good condition in a way to avoid getting any trouble while driving. You need to make sure that you have enough fluids on your car. Therefore checkout the levels on your car, or have a competent garage check them for you.

Winter Tyres Safety Benefits-M11 snow storm

In my opinion it is also important to start warming up your car. Especially, must before you are going to drive in the snow. When the first starting out, you need to keep the engine speed at low revs. So ,do not press the accelerator too hard. Drive at low speed in as higher gear as possible without stalling the engine. Also before starting out clear off any snow or frost from all of your windows, In order to get clear vision of all the road.

Driving in the snow can be a scary thing for some people. Most drivers hate it and stay indoors. However, if you do get caught out them make sure you have an  emergency kit in your car. This may include, extra coats, blanket, extra shocks, snacks and first aid kit. Or any other things that you need. I remember a recent event here in the UK. A sudden snow storm completely brought the M11 motorway to a complete standstill. Motorists were stranded all night until the following morning. Many drivers abandoned their vehicles and set off walking.

We here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax UK can now offer the excellent award winning Nokian Winter Tyres.

This was the perfect time to carry an extra blanket or coat. Engines had to be switched off in case they ran out of fuel. People were huddled in other peoples cars to keep warm. All though this is a rare occasion in the UK. Then it can still happen.

Driving in snow should be experienced by all our drivers. Especially with General winter tyres fitted.

Of course, winter tyres are made of different compounds and operate at much lower temperature. So, to rectify this, most tyre makers now include silica in their compounds. Thus enabling the winter tyres to operate at much lower temperatures. So retaining their suppleness in adverse conditions.

Consequently, even the Best Summer Tyres become hard like plastic, making the tyres loose their elasticity and therefore grip. Therefore, some tyre makers such as Toyo of Japan have tried adding grit to their compounds. Helping to create safer Snow Tyres.

Winter tyres have also different tread patterns these are usually more of a block pattern. Including, larger centre groves to dissipate the water and slush. On the positive side, the blocks give you more surface. Of course, they do not clog up with snow, due to the spaces between the blocks.

Most importantly, winter tyres also have many tiny slits known as sipes. Sipes also help to dissipate the slush and water that can clog up your tyres.Difference between winter tyres-summer tyres

Winter tyres have now become much more sophisticated .

Companies like Vredestein and Nokian produce some of the Best Cheap Winter Car Tyres a Dutch tyre company now owned by Apollo tyres from India, have made winter tyres to a very high standard . This was necessary to comply with other European countries that witnessed snow every winter and the need for say a German motorist to be able to drive his BMW at great speed down the Autobahn to go skiing in Austria or Switzerland on the same tyre.

Difference between winter tyres-summer tyres Winter Tyres  technology advanced in leaps and bounds.

Silica was added to able the rubber compounds to become much more flexible at lower temperatures. This advance is now used by most of the leading tyre companies.  This combined with computer enhanced tread design has enabled manufacturers to produce a winter tyre. The tyres are now silent on motorways yet very effective in heavy rain, snow and ice. Snow tyres, in my opinion are one of the greatest advances for the motorist of our time. They are a great contribution to road safety. All vehicle owners should consider buying them. This is especially when buying them at the right time. This is  before the price doubles again or indeed before supplies run out. Winter tyres are available online at www.pellonautocentre.com at internet prices.

Of course Nokian are one of the world leaders in tyres. Especially winter tyres. So, manufacturing an excellent range of tyre products. In my opinion though, their winter tyres are second to none. offering different types of tyres for climates with different winter conditions.

For instance, here in Halifax in Northern England we have a mixed winter climate. So, in many winters we do have snowy conditions and certainly icy roads. Therefore it would be prudent to fit at least all-weather tyres for winter driving. However, I do believe that because of the the hilly terrain. Then full blown winter tyres are the answer for complete safety.

Nokian winter tyres fit the safety standards criteria

Dont get me wrong ? most tyre manufacturers make a very good winter tyre product. Fortunately for us, we are able to source almost any make of tyre within the same day. Up to the present time, Nokian have had a pricing structure on the expensive side. however, in recent years the famous tyre brand has become more and more competitive.

This brings the award winning tyres in line with other tyre manufacturers. So, making Nokian more competitive and easier obtainable. Sooner or later a better distribution system had to become a priority for the Finnish tyre company. After all they do claim to be the first tyre company to bring out a winter tyre. Specially for countries that have snow fall. Including us here in the UK.

So, a new distributor system was rolled out. Nokian offered this to Point-S members across the UK . Including here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK. As a result, we now keep a reasonable stock of popular winter tyre and all-season tyres stock of popular sizes. All things considered , we can also get a next day delivery of the massive diversity of other tyre sizes. of course from Nokians warehouse in Scotland UK.

Of course, I write about this subject on a regular basis! Especially as winter time approaches. Although winters have been very mid in recent times! Then I can still remind drivers that it was not too long ago that we indeed had some bad snow falls.

Including the so called “Beast from the East” phenomena. So, many millions of drivers were caught out by the cold blast of air coming out of Russia. Vehicle drivers were in fact caught out with all sorts of easily rectified problems.

Screen bottles frozen?

So, apart from drivers being caught out with trying to drive through snow with summer tyres fitted. Another main problem was cars with frozen wind screen washer  bottles a their associated pipes. To prevent this all that was needed was to fill the washer bottles with the correct strength of washer solution? I must confess that our total commitment for advising drivers about fitting wintertyres is now starting to pay off.

November is the start for many of our customers to fit winter tyres on their vehicle. Drivers are now aware of the vast safety features that winter tyres offer the motorist. Our advice is that all winter tyres are better that driving on summer tyres. Significantly, in winter driving conditions. However we do recommend that you consider looking at the award winning Nokian Winter Tyre range.

In recent times we also recommend the fitting of all-weather tyres for all year round safer driving. Much more winter car protection advice is given in the attached article from the Metro Newspaper.winter tyre add

Cologne Tyre Show 2018-German Hospitality a Great Success for Tyre Enthusiasts

Cologne Tyre Show 2018

Cologne Tyre Show 2018

Cologne Tyre Show 2018

As the owner of a Tyre Retail Store here in the UK, then I think it important to visit the occasional tyre show. Of course we do have them here in the UK every once in a while . So the problem in the past has been the size of the show. What I mean is that you can walk through the exhibits in the matter of a few hours?

Over the years since I have been in the tyre business, then things have changed. Albeit at a slow pace. The public probably dont know or dont care much about tyres, as long as the price is right. However when you are a part of the industry, then you have “rubber in your blood”. For this reason tyres are an everyday part of our lives. Importantly, tyre guys like to meat and chat with other tyre guys, and so tyre shows are a great place to visit.

Pretty boring to most of the public, but like many other industries, So, tyres  are an every day part of our lives. This leads up to the first time that I saw that the European tyre show would be in Cologne Germany . In previous years I have traveled to these shows with a colleagues in the tyre trade. This time though I asked my wife if she would like to go. Of course she loves travelling and said a resounding yes.

New to Germany-Cologne Tyre Show 2018

Although I have visited these giant shows in other parts of Germany. then this was a country that she had never visited. All our travel arrangements were done by a local company, Tivolitravel . Of course everything went well and our hotel was situated across from the “messe” where the show was held.

When we arrived the temperature was 30 degrees and very humid. This weather was to last over the whole four days of our visit ! Cologne itself was a wonderful and vibrant city. Consequently, I would recommend anyone to take a visit its a great place with bars restaurants and a good shopping centre (not for me though).

The show itself was massive! Tyre companies do hold back when it comes to showing off their products. As expected all the big tyre companies were there in force. The one that I was interested in was the “Nokian Tyres” stand. Because we are Nokian dealers for our area here in Halifax UK. Although not the biggest stand, Nokian had a very good presence, showing off their AA rated SUV tyres, the Sporty Nokian zLine SUV summer tyre

Michelle and I had a great time at the show, taking some pictures for my blog and future blogs. It was a good experience the weather, food, hotel and the show were all first class. Including the friendly German people.

Compulsory rubber winter tyres- would cut traffic jams and save lives | HeraldScotland

Compulsory rubber winter tyres

Compulsory rubber winter tyres

As we have all experienced this winter has been pretty tough. Especially after the so called “beast of the east” bringing a standstill to most of the roads of the UK. Of course some drivers are sensible and fit winter tyres to their vehicles. I also fit winter tyres to my vehicles. believe me they are really good.

My Ford Transit Comfort is fitted with a set of Nokian winter tyres. Believe me when I say that I never got stuck once. They were truly marvelous ? In fact one Saturday night I had to take my son to his girlfriends house in Wakefield West Yorkshire. The journey normally takes about a half hour. On the way a blizzard hit us ten minutes into our journey.

The snow settled very quickly and vehicles began to get stuck.

Even on the main roads. The scene soon became gridlocked as the snow was blown on high winds. Thus making driving impossible.

Except for my van. I quickly diverted onto the small roads that were not as badly affected by the now deepening snow. The Nokian winter tyres were doing a sterling job. Not once did I get stuck as I took as many back roads as possible. I arrived in Wakefield an hour later. So,dropped my son off and headed back home.

Once  again the main roads were grid locked. One main road out of Wakefield was blocked by a jackknifed  double decker bus. I did just the same and headed home on the back roads without any problems. The winter tyres were perfect? I am sure that there are many similar stories with drivers that were glad that they fit winter tyres. They are a known safety feature and save lives.

So, for some 12 years I traveled each January to Helsinki. Hence, and never experienced any delays at Helsinki Airport, even though the snow depth was…

From the 1st November 2012 it will be a legal requirement. Hence, for all new tyres to feature one of the new tyre labels as required by European Regulation No
1222/2009. The intention behind these labels. So, is to give customers more information about the performance of each tyre. It covers three areas –

  • wet braking, which gives you a guide to how safe the tyre is
  • rolling resistance, offering a guide to fuel consumption; and external noise.
  • The labels are very similar to those found on household appliances such as washing machines, and should be easy to understand.

The tyres will be graded by each manufacturer or importer (where tyres are coming in from outside the European Union.).

Of course, to a strict testing system, and each country will be responsible for ensuring that the testing is carried out to the correct standards. Tyre manufacturers have already begun this process, so how are the tyres tested for each aspect of the label?

These new tyre labels are likely to encourage consumers to put more thought into the tyres they purchase. Thus, and tyre manufacturers to put more effort into improving the performance of their product. In time this should improve the safety of our roads

  • by reducing stopping distances
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions (by reducing fuel consumption)
  • reduce the noise that traffic produces.
  • Overall this should result in a definite improvement of our environment.

Consequently, the new EU tyre labelling regulations make things much clearer for the consumer.

Previously the only way to age a tyre or tell the age was on the tyre sidewall. Instead of just the technical information on the tyre side wall. So, the new label give more useful information on fuel efficiency, wet weather capability and the tyres external noise level. Which of course is worth teaching our customers about. So, simply put, an “A” rated tyre will stop a lot quicker in the wet than a G rated tyre.

When tyre labeling first came out then some of us were dubious about its real use. The system was set up as a self governing exercise. This meant that tyre companies could sort of mark up the grading to make the tyres better than they really were. Further on in time then I do think that tyre standards are improving. In fact some tyre manufacturers now make Double “A” tyres with a low noise level.

Nokians AA Rated Tyres

These include Dunlop and Goodyear, but to my surprise Nokian tyres now make an SUV tyre with an “AA” rating The new AA-rated Nokian e Line 2 summer tyre ensures reliable top performance under all weather conditions. The precise driving feel and optimal comfort.

This Would Damage Your Tyres-Michigan pothole so large police officer stands knee-deep – True PunditTrue Pundit

This Would Damage Your Tyres

This could be Station Road in Mirfield Next !!!

This Would Damage Your Tyres

This story in evolving all over the UK. Perhaps not as big as this but potholes are appearing everywhere. One particular bad spot that I know of is Station Road in Mirfield, West Yorkshire UK. Also the roads are bad traveling along the motorways particularly the M62. The M62 is the trans-Pennine route linking Liverpool on the west coast with Hull on the east coast.

This is one of the busiest motorways in Europe. This winter has been very cold and snowy. Because of this the roads are now cracking and potholes are opening up all over the motorway. Particularly where there has been previous roadworks!!

Here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax, we have noticed an increase in the number of damaged tyres and wheels. Of course I blame this on drivers hitting snow and slush covered potholes. Because this sort of incident causes sidewall damage then the tyres need replacing. One tyre manufacturer who is making tyres with stronger sidewalls, is Nokian.

Nokian originated in Finland are invented the first ever winter tyre. Of course they are now world famous for their winter tyres. Nokian have now developed a summer tyre for the SUV market that includes “aramid” . Of course, aramid is an extremely tough fibre, used in bulletproof vests. Therefore, the tyre was developed to protect larger sized tyre fitted to SUV,s.

The tyres with aramid in in some of the E line and Z line summer tyre ranges. Incidentally the E line 2 tyre range is a AA tyre rating, which puts the tyre in the elite class tyre manufacturers. As the Nokian dealer in the area we at Pellon Tyres are proud to offer these excellent tyres to the motoring public.

Michelin Winter Van Tyres-Agilis CrossClimate van and light truck tyre for safe driving in all weather conditions

Michelin Winter Van Tyres

Michelin Winter Van Tyres

Michelin Winter Van Tyres

All of the vans in my small fleet are fitted with winter tyres. In fact we do not take them off. Winter tyres are excellent all the year round. Delivery vans get into all sorts of places when out delivering. Including off road situations such as fields and un-tarmaced country lanes. I know because I have been there?

One of the best winter van tyres is the Michelin winter van tyres. In fact we have customers who are solo couriers who swear by fitting Michelin winters all the time. One particular guy delivers to companies that provide agricultural shows with many extras . Including show pens and refreshment areas.

These tyres are perfect because he has to drive on grassy surfaces and would get stuck when using summer tyres. of course another advantage of Michelin van tyres is their longevity. Like most Michelin products he found that they lasted much longer than other brands of winter tyres. The guy would visits us about every two years for his new set of winter tyres fitting.

Recently we became Nokian tyre dealers and so I may ask him to try a set? but I very much doubt it. Michelin have proved to him just how good they are. Believe it or not he is not the only one. Some of our customers will only stay with one brand of tyre for all their driving lives?

Eric Roberts

Michelin has extended its highly-acclaimed CrossClimate range into the light truck and van market. The new Agilis CrossClimate is a summer tyre with a full winter capability, boasting safety in all weathers, high mileage, robustness, damage resistance and long lasting performance, equating to low total cost of ownership. Rigorous tests.
