Winter Car Servicing

Unipart Car Care Centre Halifax West Yorkshire

Unipart Car Care Centre Halifax

Unipart Car Care Centre Halifax

This year at Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre will be our 30th year in business. To celebrate we are holding a huge party for our customers and suppliers. Consequently, who have supported us over the past years. In that time we have tried any many different trade associations to better us and the customer experience, by offering different things that would improve their experience when visiting our garage for tyres servicing or indeed general repairs.

The two organisations that we are currently associated with are the best that I have had the pleasure to deal with.

5 years of care

We have been a Unipart UCCC now for five years and have benefited our customers with the service that they offer. The Unipart Car Care Centre garage network now extends to over 200 independent garages that operate throughout the British Isles. They consist of a blend of normal type garages, fast fit centres and other motoring organizations and are the largest network in the country (UK).

Because we are all independent garages we probably carry out car servicing in slightly different ways, but we all work in the same ethical way offering our customers a top quality service with genuine monetary savings, that we must adhere to as part of our Unipart Car Care Centre membership.

We use top quality service schedules price list that are available online.

The price list says 2012, but we are sticking to these prices for the near future. On some car models we will use the Autodata car servicing manual to give us the exact requirements for the customers car’s needs. Just to mention it , we do have the computer equipment to correct and re-set any of the cars service lights when the service is completed.

Original Equipment Quality Parts.

Another bonus for our customers is that we use 90% of Unipart sourced parts to use on our customers cars. This ensures that we fit real quality parts when we carry out a service or repairs to our customers cars .We have to ensure the best parts because all our customers are covered by a Unipart Car Parts 12 months parts a labor guarantee, which is applicable all over the mainland UK.

So if you are going on holiday. Say to Brighton from Halifax and you had a problem with some work that we carried out. Then you could take the car to the nearest Unipart Car Care Centre depot and the problem would be sorted out for you to carry on with your holiday, a great bonus for all the UCCC Members customers. All Unipart Car Care Centres are signed up to the Motor Industry Code of Practice now know as Trading Standards.

The second great organization that I have joined has been Point-S !

Operating an online tyre pricing system to compete with the other online tyre retailers. However, the difference is that the pricing system is to help us local businesses. So, compete with the huge national tyre retailers such as Kwikfit . When you buy a tyre through Point-S tyre buying system. So then the sale comes to us at local level. We are then contacted by the customer who arranges a date for the tyres to be fitted. This is a great system for a popular local tyre centre to compete with the big companies. Confidently, it also means that our customers have a choice from where they can buy from. Of course, knowing that if they have a problem in the future. Then they can still rely on our great service and guarantee system.

Both these partners to our business have helped us compete in this ever changing computer internet driven world many thanks.

Solar Energy Batteries- May Vie With U.S. Oil Boom as Energy Changer

Solar Energy Batteries

Solar Energy Batteries

The rapid development of rooftop solar and

Solar Energy Batteries storage technology

could be as trans formative to the economy and modern life as the U.S. oil and gas boom, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said. (Batteries May Vie With U.S.

Eric Roberts’ insight: Solar batteries

The USA Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz has come out with a statement that I have been talking about for a couple of years now. In this article, he says that the USA could start to be getting independent of the national energy providers if the growth in solar Renewable Energy and other renewable resources can keep growing at the present rate.

In my opinion, the public in America. Of course, and other continents such as here in the UK. Have really grasped the nettle as far as going it alone with solar energy. The solar panels in this picture are situated in a small town in West Yorkshire UK.

Starting producing energy from the Sun as early as February. The electricity that is produced by these solar panels is sent straight to the electricity grid. Through a reverse meter and the electric company pays the house owner for the electricity that is provided.

In America there is a growing trend to store the electricity. Hence, that is collected from the panels. Into banks of Solar Energy Batteries. This is also useful in rural and more isolated areas. Where the batteries can store the electricity. As a result, for use at night by the house owners.

The most effective type of Solar Energy Batteries to use is AGM batteries.

These AGM batteries will cost more in the first instance. But will give better service due to the ability to have much greater charge and discharge cycles. Than say a normal lead-acid Car Batteries.

There are many DIY videos available. Showing, householders how to set up a Solar Energy Batteries system. One of them is Trojan AGM Battery. Subsequently, these batteries are very suited for the use with solar energy. So, anyone thinking of doing this should look at the Trojan AGM product.

Like the USA energy secretary Ernest Moriz. I too wonder how long off are we before we are producing more electricity. Say than the national providers and what happens then?.

Flat Tyre-A Woman’s Guide to Changing their own Wheel?

Women Drivers do often change their flat tyre

Sometimes it may be great to play a damsel in distress. So, having a strong and well-toned man fix your flat tyre. Importantly,  I think every woman ought to know how to change to the spare wheel. After all, having your tyre blow is never something anyone plans. Of course, you may not have any ready eager boy scout waiting around to rescue you. There is no need to keep the wheel changing in a man’s domain. Times are changing and you should too. Time to empower yourself and get ready to tackle that flat tyre !

Flat Tyre

 1. First of all, if there is a place for you to move your car out of the way !

So, if there is a place to where you can get out of the way, then move your car there. Make sure oncoming traffic will be able to see you. Turn on your hazards and if you have an warning triangle. Then place where it will be clearly visible. Also make sure the place you move your vehicle to as flat and even as possible. Avoid soft ground and inclines. Whenever possible place some bricks, blocks or large rocks . Naturally, under your car to prevent your car from rolling backwards.

 2. If you have hubcaps, remove them.

These are the covers of your wheels. Check you manual on how to remove them. I highly suggest you look at this beforehand and not when you have already blown a tyre.

 3. Next you need to remove the wheel nuts.

These are the nuts or bolts that hold your wheel in place. You will need a wheel brace to do this. Of course the wheel brace comes in different shapes and sizes . Commonly known as a “Spider” . So, the spider wrench is the T shaped wrench. Of course, that should be together with all your other tools. The shape of the wrench makes for easy leverage. However, if your upper body strength is lacking the heft or muscle needed to loosen the lug nuts. Importantly, you may have to resort to step on the T-arm to obtain better leverage. Always remember, left to loosen and right to tighten.

 4. Now you need your car jack to raise your car.

Most cars have a flat plate behind the front wheels and just in front of the back ones for this purpose. Place the jack under the “jacking point” nearest to the tyre to be changed ! Raising the jack with the jack handle to meet the jacking point plate. Double check and make sure your car will be steady once it is raised. Safety is crucial whenever you are working with your car. Now raise your car about 15 cm of the ground. Don’t forget that when you re-fit an inflated spare wheel. Thus, will need room so make sure there is enough space for the spare to be placed on.

 5. by grabbing it with both hands, one on each side.

So after removing the wheel nuts!  Pull the flat wheel straight and off. Quickly, line up your spare with the bolts and slide it on. Replace the lug nuts but do not tighten them completely. When you have lowered your car, use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts in opposite pairs. Make sure these are as tight as possible ! Because you absolutely do not want your tyre to come off when you start driving away.

 6. It’s time to clean up and put things back in place.

Put all your tools together and place them back where they were stored. Always put them back in the same place so you know right where to find them in case of emergencies. Knowing where all of the tools are before you get into an emergency situation is suggested. Put your flat tyre where you spare one was and make sure to have it fixed right away.

7. Of course many cars dont have spares now !

many cars now run on run-flat tyres and do not have a spare wheel. In my opinion this is a great idea ! So when a puncture occurs then the driver can carry on driving the car. Albeit at a steady 50 mph ! Cars with runflats can then make their way to a tyre centre and have the problem attended to. Some cars only carry a can of air sealant and no spare wheel. This idea is save on the weight of the car and reduce emissions.

8.I would advise most ladies to join a motoring organisation

Although that you now know how to change your flat tyre ! I would strongly recommend that any motorists and not just ladies should join one of the road side assistance companies. So we all must have noticed how busy our roads are now getting. Especially, on the motorways. Recently, I had the dis-pleasure of having a tyre blowout on the M1 motorway.

Of course, it was dark and raining and was a very frightening experience. However it is a job that I have done all my life and quickly changed the wheel at the roadside. However it did open my mind to the thought that this would have been horrific for a lady driver to attempt this task. Simply it would be far better to join the “AA” “Green Flag” or the “RAC“. Naturally putting your mind at rest !

A woman alone with her car and a flat tyre could be a signal for the less than honourable to take advantage of the situation. If you have no recourse but to change the tyre yourself, make sure you have some form of protection nearby like pepper spray. Also make sure to call a friend or relative to let them know what happened when your tyre blows so someone is aware of where you are and the situation you are in. This will at least give people you know the information of your whereabouts.

9, Having your tyres in good condition is one way to avoid a flat tyre.

While some causes like a puncture from a nail or other sharp object cannot be avoided. So, keeping your tyres well inflated. Along with careful driving will lessen the chances of your having to change a flat in the future.

And if you need new tyres ! So  Point-S has over 160 independently owned centres across the UK . Consequently, to help you find the right tyre for your need. Its knowledgeable and professional staff will be able to give you brand neutral car safety advice to help you make the right decision for your tyre needs. And if your car needs other types of auto service, they offer than as well. And because they are part of the Unipart Car Care Centre network, you know they adhere to the core values of:

• An open and honest approach with the customers

• A high standard of work and excellent value for money

• 12 month guarantee on parts and labour

• An open invitation to inspect, review and rate the garages of your choice to make the best informed decision for your needs

Stay safe on the road ladies!

Brake Problems

Entering the FRICTION ZONE — Aging vehicle parc ripe for car brakes sales Car Brakes-Entering the FRICTION ZONE

Tire Business

“Where before when a vehicle reached 10 years or 11 years, consumers were thinking of selling it, now they’re thinking of, ‘How can I keep my car going?

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

This is a very in depth articles about car brakes

Un-reasonably,  car brakes are very often taken for granted. So, in other words car owners will just pull into your garage and leave their car. Because there is a banging or rattling noise coming from the front of the car.

This is usually a good indication that the car brakes have failed,or are failing ! But brake jobs do follow a pattern.

The spring time is usually the time for our customers car brakes to start going wrong . So,and needing repairing. Of course, in my opinion I think that it is because that drivers use their car brakes. Of course, much more in the winter months and therefore the brake pads and discs .

car brakes

A nice new set of brake discs fitted

Drivers almost always wait until the last minute to have them repaired and consequently cause more damage to the brakes.

For example a simple job like a set of brake pads replacing may turn out to be more complicated and end up the car needing new discs, or a seized up brake caliper.

This will result in a larger garage invoice for the customer. The secret is to get a free brake check at your local garage. most garages here in the UK will give a car a free brake check and give the customer a quote for the required work. We are members of the Unipart Car Care Centres who also offer a nationwide guarantee throughout the UK and a free brake check on all makes and models of cars.

All this culminates as a good time of year for doing brake work, especially the many older cars that our customers are now hanging on to longer and having them repaired instead of replaced.

Van Wheel Alignment Including Suspension

BMW Wheel Alignment-How much should wheel alignment on a BMW cost?

BMW Wheel Alignment

BMW Wheel Alignment cost the same as any other car for a wheel alignment

 BMW wheel alignment

What does BMW alignment cost? I was charged $ 65 today (we charge £39.90 in Halifax) just to get the front end of my (How much should a four wheel alignment on a BMW cost?

Eric Roberts’ insight:

BMW wheel alignment the same as any other car?

Of course, the question of rear wheel alignment. So has always in my opinion been a grey area. Depending on the size of the garage business. Including  the garage owners priorities to what is spent on alignment equipment ! So,will determine whether or not they can afford a massive investment in a 4 wheel alignment machine.

Incredibly, the thing is that there are thousands of wheel alignment machines on the market. But they will only do what you want them to do in your own garage situation. Another point to look at . Before you invest in one of these alignment machines is the amount of space you have. Some are very large and you could find them difficult  to fit them into your workshop.

The larger franchise garages are usually of a modern construction. Of course, similar to an industrial warehouse. With a massive space inside for multiple ramps and alignment machines. But a garage like mine is built as an old fashioned tyre depot with individual bays. Naturally, when we fit a ramp into the bay. So, we don’t have the space to fit one of the “all singing all dancing” wheel alignment machines.

2019 Update ?

Recently, we have had a complete re-shuffle and re-arranged our garage space. Consequently, we have fitted a new ramp ! Capable of fitting our new 4 x wheel alignment machine. Of course, in the past I have been known to criticize the investment in these large expensive machines. However, car designs  and price competition have helped to change my mind.

Subsequently, we have purchased a brand new alignment machine and can now reset the tracking on most car models. Including, the BMW range at competitive prices.

In the end, these machines will all give the same results

It is like cars really, some are bigger and have many more extras, but in the end, they all get you from A to B. So in the past, we only offered to do the front wheel alignment, mainly because we are always busy and only have the time to do a front wheel alignment. Also, most cars do not have any adjustment for the rear Laser Wheel Alignment or you need special tools to adjust them.

Most customers are perfectly happy for us to do the front BMW Wheel Alignment; we always recommend it should be done when new tyres are fitted, or if their steering wheel is out of line and when they have hit a pothole or the kerb. This will then correct the problem and their car will drive much better when the alignment is adjusted.

We at Pellon Tyres here in Halifax West Yorkshire charge £39.90 for the BMW Wheel Alignment

Including £69.90 for the Four-Wheel BMW Wheel Alignment. Depending on the make and model of the car, to be correct and adjusted, (about $50) and it does not matter about the make of the car. So, the BMW is charged at the same rate as say a Toyota or a GM model. Naturally, we take them all on as they come ! Some are hard to do and some are easy, we feel that it is the easy way to do this.

If a car owner really wants a rear wheel alignment then we have Wheel Alignment Equipment to do the job the because perhaps his car has been involved in a collision, then we refer them to the guy who paid £22,000.00 for his alignment machine and sometimes takes two hours to complete?

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with these expensive machines, in my opinion, it is “horses for courses” and in the amount of space that I have got, I need an alignment machine that is portable and I can move from ramp to ramp.

Electric Car Servicing-Buying An Electric ‘Compliance Car’? Think Hard About-

electric car servicing

There are now more than a dozen plug-in electric cars for sale in the U.S., but not all electric cars are created equal.

Eric Roberts’ insight:

Electric car Servicing

This is an interesting article about the difficulty that the American motorists could experience when wanting to repair or service their electric battery operated cars.

It tells of the state of California giving the car manufacturers a quota for a number of vehicles, that they are to supply as compared to normal gasoline engined ones.

The problem is that the amount of electric car servicing garages are in short supply, especially Toyota.

Fundamentally, the question on my mind is “whatever happened to the Right to Repair Laws” ! Naturally, that are in operation in the United States and in the European Union. Significantly, this states that service garages should be given the access to  technical details. Including all the cars that car manufacturers are making.

So, why can’t the regular garages service these cars? In fact recently, I paid an expert on electric cars to brief my staff about the impending influx of electric cars. Special equipment is required  ! Because these vehicle are extremely dangerous ! Of course due to the possibility of electric shocks.

Because of certain restrictions then it has always been a strong suspicion of mine.

So, that this work will be kept away from the independent garage sector. Resentfully, Electric Car Servicing will not be open to us. In many ways they cannot be blamed for wanting to protect all their investment and development. However, every other product that has ever been produced. So, would have had to start out somewhere!

Accepting this is difficult for me and  this won’t stick with me. Consequently, we should all have a share in this market as we do today. I hope the EU are looking at this, so that they can legislate against the car makers protectionism ! Giving us all a in the garage business a fair deal. Thus allowing us to carry out Electric Car Servicing, alongside petrol engine car servicing.

Importantly, we can service the “Hybrid cars” and indeed do so.

UK motorists-1 in 10 think the MOT test is Only an OPTION?

UK motorists,mot test

Millions of UK motorists are clueless

about the legal requirement for MOT test, insurance and road tax (Mot’s only cover approx 20% of your car being checked but servicing covers approx 70% as i was told when i last…

Eric Roberts’ insight:

As the owner of an MOT test station

Of course, I do believe these figures from the excellent Auto express magazine. Significantly this article makes interesting reading ! Stating that 10% of UK motorists . Many car owners do not know that the MOT test is compulsory ! Importantly,  on cars that are over three years old.

The British government are computerizing the vehicle system. Including the whole system of car insuring and road tax along with the DVLA MOT Rules. In my opinion, they would be better off aligning the three systems. This of course would make it much easier to regulate and also for ease of use to the vehicle owners.

So, enabling it impossible to have one thing without the other ! Of course, at the moment, they are not aligned . Incredibly, you could have a car insured without an MOT test. In my opinion, this will be the Governments aim. Because at the end of this year the road tax disc will be abolished and the system will go online. Making it easier for the UK motorists, the List of New MOT Rules and  details will probably have to be entered along with the insurance details. Thus tightening up on the whole system which is at the moment flawed.

Today 2019, then this as all been implemented. Therefore no UK vehicles have to show a tax disc ! Vehicle data is all computerised and also available at any time for police officers to check.

Neglect car servicing

Spring Service-It’s Time To Start Preparing Your Car- AOL Autos

Spring Service

It’s Time To Start Preparing Your Car For Spring service

AOL Autos

Proper wheel alignment allows your car to handle properly. It also means that your tyres won’t wear out prematurely.

Eric Roberts’ insight:

Spring Service

This year will be no better time to have your car or SUV serviced. The reason why is that here in the South West of England, we have experienced the wettest winter for many years.

The cars have been wading in floods all across the South and especially in the Somerset Wetland’s, an area of England that is bellow sea levels and has been heavily flooded for most of the winter.

In my opinion, it is important now that the flooding has receded, to take you car into a local Car Service centre and have a Spring Service and the Car Brakes checked over.

The most vulnerable parts to suffer from water damage are your cars brakes. Most modern engines are now sealed units and do not have spark plugs and electric coils anymore,

Not just a Spring Service any service will benefit your car

spring service

Catalytic Converters can easily be damaged by flood water

Significantly, though the water can enter your exhaust pipes. Thus causing damage to the catalytic converter. Consequently, this may not be detected straight away! But you may end up with your cars engine management light coming on at a later stage. Irritatingly, the water damage shows up in your cars engine management system. Including your particulate filter.

Most things will be picked up when you Spring Service your car, but this is a good time have a spring service as the weather start to improve, as I say especially the cars braking system.

Many good Auto-centres now offer a free  brake check here in the UK and if you do not have a garage then you could do no worse that looks up your nearest Unipart Auto-centre, where you know that you will be treated fairly with honest pricing and their work is covered by a nationwide guarantee.

Bridgestone Run-Flat tyres-These Runflat tyres are undoubtedly a serious Safety Feature

Bridgestone Run-Flat tyres

Bridgestone Run-Flat tyres

When I first heard about the Bridgestone Run-Flat tyres concept,

At first, I was a little bit skeptical. So,about how runflats would work? Say when the car was driven at eighty miles per hour on a wet busy motorway. However as time has gone on and with a little more research. Then I have got used to the idea of your car not having a spare wheel. Also the fact that the car does not swerve or deviate as the tyre is deflated at speed.

Now run-flat tyres are just part of the tyre scene. Our customers just accept the fact that if one goes flat and they have to drive home on it. Consequently, then they are going to need a new tyre at some stage in the future. I am a great advocate of road safety. Convinced at  the fact that tyres play a great part in the tyre safety picture.

Run-flat tyres are now part of that picture along with all the other safety features. Hence, that are being produced by innovative tyre companies at the moment. Such as “self-seal” technology. Recently, introduced by Continental tyres, Pirelli tyres and Kumho tyres.

The fact is that run-flat tyres are now being fitted to many cars. Now one of the leading makers of Run Flat Tyres . Of course, are the giant number one tyre company of the World, Bridgestone tyres. One of the growth markets for run-flat tyres is the larger and heavier premium cars. Such as Mercedes and BMW. Who have in fact worked side by side with Bridgestone to help develop this concept of tyre. Naturally which is safe for the driver and just as important to other road users.

Bridgestone Run-Flat tyres

If run-flat tyres are subject to a sudden pressure loss. So, then the car will keep driving in a straight line. Continuing on its journey. Of course, without any mishandling or deviation. So not causing any problems to the other drivers in the same vicinity. A normal car tyre that is subject to an instant loss of pressure would probably disintegrate at speed and because the car to deviate badly, this is, in fact, the cause of many car crashes, this could result in the car colliding with several other cars causing a very bad accident.

Another good point to remember is that there is no need to have to pull onto the shoulder and change your spare wheel? You can drive the car, to your nearest tyre centre. If you are a stranger to the area then I would suggest that you look up your nearest Point-S tyre centre. These centres are dotted all over the UK and are vetted for a fair price and give excellent

Run-Flat tyres

Alex balancing a run flat tyre in Halifax UK

service. Point-S can be found online at www.point-s.co.uk and if you like you can even check out the price on the website, to see what a great deal you can get.

A slight drawback with run-flat tyres is

That once you have detected that the tyre is no longer inflated, then you are restricted to driving at 50mph at a distance of 50 miles, but this can give most people ample time to get to the nearest town and have the tyre changed. Also for the old-fashioned amongst you then the cars with run-flats, do not have a spare, this was

Run-Flat tyres

This Audi TT is been fitted with Dunlop run-flat tyres

originally to give the cars more space where the spare tyre would normally be sitting, also it lightens the weight of the car to help conform with emission controls.

Also, BMW Run Flat Tires Problems now run alongside with the TPMS systems (Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems). This warns the driver if the tyres are losing any pressure, or in fact if the tyres have suffered from an instant loss of air. The warning light will illuminate and warn the driver that they have a problem with a tyre. This is a great all round system and is a great safety feature in many new models of cars that are now entering the marketplace, including the SUV models.

Other tyre companies also make the run-flat tyre and I believe that a budget tyre is available made by economy tyre company Wanli. Most of the leading tyre companies now make run-flat tyres and there is now a large choice available.

Pellon Tyres 25 years old and still going strong here in Halifax UK?

Eric Roberts Managing Director of Pellon Tyres

It only hit home to me a few week ago about the achievements that 25 years of running the same business really means to me. All my staff are getting excited about our 25 years “Bash” celebration that we are holding for our local suppliers and customers at the Raggalds Inn at Queensbury on the borders of Halifax here in West Yorkshire.

pellon tyres

Busy repairing cars picture courtesy of the Halifax Courier

It is very hard to believe that we started with two small bays back in 1989, all that time ago; and over the years we have turned the garage business into one of the busiest and trusted in the West Yorkshire area.

In the beginning we inherited a stock of cheap budget tyres and a few hundred remoulds of different sizes, but we had to sell these tyres before we could build up a better stock. However the first day we opened, it snowed here in Halifax and we were inundated with telephone calls and customers driving in to buy tyres. I only started out the new venture with two tyre

pellon tyres

Debbie Bastow 25 years service and now Manageress

fitters and my assistant then Debbie Bastow, but we managed to get through that, with much higher than expected takings, I was very pleased and we had sold much of our budget tyres stock in the first day (a good sign).

A few years later I decided to change the company name from Pellon Tyre and Exhaust to  Pellon Tyre and Autocentre, because we were by then selling other services to our customers, much in line with other companies in the same auto business as us. The next natural step to take was for us to become an MOT testing station and so I decided to buy the end part of the building that was being sold by a car body repair specialist. The sale eventually went through and I opened the two bays up, to become an MOT testing centre.

The garage and tyre business grew steadily over the years but like all other businesses in the UK we were hit by two or three recessions, (every ten years, so it seemed). As a business man I always reacted in a recession and in the nineties, I decided to become computerised and decided to purchase a computer system that was specific to our garage and tyre business. After looking at a few examples I chose the T.E.A.M. (Tyre and Exhaust Management) system. This was a great system and helped the business move forward by giving us more information, better stock control, and an accurate accounts system, both for customers and suppliers, giving us a much more efficient and competitive business.

Pellon Tyres business was up and down but the car repair side remained stable

Like so many other garage owners Pellon Tyres have tried all kinds of new methods and products to prop up our profit margins and keep our businesses competitive, these included bulk buy exhaust systems from Bosal using all different types of tyre selling techniques, but the trade was completely turned on its back with the advent of the internet and the selling of tyres and other auto products online.

Pellon Tyres had to “sink or swim” and quickly had our first web site built. Like many other small garages at the time we thought that all we needed was a website, not knowing the complexities that was involved in getting your website to rank on the search engines. My target was to attract and retain our existing tyre customers and this was helped greatly by the addition of a “tyre selector” bolted onto our website. This was supplied to Pellon Tyres by the tyre wholesaler Micheldever and meant that we could offer tyres at internet prices to our customer’s local to West

In my eyes this was a success and we were able to retain a large amount of our tyre customer base. Other things came along in the last few years. Pellon Tyres joined forces with Unipart Car Care Centres, to enable us to offer our garage customers a nationwide pricing and guarantee system, to compete with the large companies with multiple depots.

Pellon Tyres also joined a European tyre dealer network for independent tyre dealers called Point-S and now enjoy much better tyre prices that we can pass onto our customers by been able to buy direct from the tyre manufacturers, such as Avon, Goodyear, Hankook, Continental and Yokohama. These companies also supply us with technical information and promotional materials. In fact Yokohama tyres have just finished a complete re-branding of our depot here in Halifax. We are now a  fitting station for Asda Tyres.

I must admit thought that although the time has flown, I believe that we are now living in very exciting times in the auto industry, with major changes taking place both in the tyre industry and the car industry in general, mostly sparked off by the desire of governments to create a better and greener planet and whether we like it or not these massive changes are going to happen in many of our lifetimes.

As for me I now take a bit of a back seat and the lady who started off with me 25 years ago is now the manageress of the Pellon Auto Centre business and she does an excellent job running things for me, together with my wife Michelle, they now operate Pellon Tyres. I now have an office at home and run the important internet side of the business and our websites, (happy days).

Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and tyre and Battery business now for 40 years. I have worked for a couple for national tyre companies in my younger days, before starting my first business. I now own a garage and MOT testing centre, here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre, and I am a keen blogger about anything to do with cars and their related products that will help my business. We are members of Point-S and Motor-Codes and are also a Unipart Car Care Centre and of course Tyre-safe.
