Car Battery Care can last for more than around five years, so if your car is approaching that sort of age and is still using its original battery, it’s worth getting it checked over.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Car Battery Care

A Battery is something just stuck under the bonnet

To most car drivers the cars battery is just something that is stuck under the bonnet (hood). So, the only time they will know that it exists is when the car will not start and it is

Car Battery Care

Testing this cars battery is all part of Car Battery Care

usually in the middle of nowhere. Of course, or when you are driving to that important meeting on a cold winters day.Hence, your battery Care, is the last thing on most drivers minds ? .

The days are getting much shorter now and the nights colder. Hence, you will also be using more of the cars electrics in winter. Especially the heaters, wipers, and lights.  In fact you will be using everything electrical. Thus putting your cars battery under immense pressure. Also you should be using the cars air-conditioning system to clear and de-mist another power

sucking piece of equipment that will drain the cars battery. Also, not forgetting to de-ice the car before you set off on your journey.

According to the RAC here in the UK, lack of Car Battery Care is the biggest cause of car breakdowns and the problem starts to get worst at this time of year.

Most of the Cheap Car Batteries are only guaranteed for two years, but the batteries fitted to new cars will last on average for about five years.

Car Battery Care

So if your car is five years old or over, be prepared to have to change the battery, before it lets you down.

There are many Causes of a Flat Battery. You can have a free battery check if you are having Car Battery Problems at most garages, but if you need a garage that you can trust ,then look online for your nearest Unipart Car Care Centre, they have a network of garages that can be trusted on price and service.

Also if you do have your car serviced at regular intervals then Car Battery Care will be carried out by your garage. They will clean and test your battery in with the service.

Van Battery Care-Your Car is at Risk! – Reasons for your Car Battery to Fail?

Van Battery Care

Corroded battery terminals require cleaning

Frequent battery failure can cost you thousands of dollars for repairs. You can avoid Van Battery Care problems by following regular maintenance. To reduce chances of  van battery failures, it’s critical to understand its causes.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Give your car battery a winter check

As we all know winter is just around the corner here in the Northern hemisphere. The weather is turning colder at night and this will affect the performance of your car battery. To keep you car battery lasting longer there are one or two things that you can do.

If your van battery has the old type screw tops, then you can inspect the level of the acid in your battery, with Van Battery Care, this can be checked and remedied. If this is something that you have to do at often intervals then it means that the battery is boiling and could have a faulty alternator. You should top the battery up with distilled water and recheck it a few days after, to see if the level has dropped again. If the level has dropped then you should get your alternator checked at a good garage.

If are reading this in the UK and you do not know of a good garage, then look up the nearest Unipart Car Care Centre(UCCC) in your area, they have safeguards to protect you the

Van Battery Care

A simple voltmeter can tell you lots about your battery

customer and a fair price policy, but more than that they can be trusted.

Also another Van Battery Care tip is to look out for white coloured powder on the top of the  battery, this indicates a leak around the terminals, the white powder is dried battery acid. You can clean it off using a cup full of warm water, but if it is a recurring problem it means that the battery is on its way out and needs replacing before it lets you down, on your deliveries. It is a good idea to always keep a Car Battery Charger and a 12V Voltmeter,to hand as it may just keep you going for a few more winter days, until you can buy Cheap Car batteries Online.

This is about the limit that you can go to check over your battery and look after it, after all has I have said the last thing you want is for the battery to let you down, when you

Your car battery could end up in the scrap pile

least expect it and having to be towed to the nearest garage to have it seen to, and paying over the odds because you are stranded. That is if they have a battery to fit your car, you may have to wait another day if they have to order a new battery.

Air Filters-How they Work-Chevy High Performance Magazine

Air Filters

Air Filters

How Air Filters Work

Chevy High Performance Magazine

For performance air filter manufacturers like Airaid, determining the ideal filter design for each vehicle application is a balancing act between optimal flow and packaging constraints.

eric roberts‘s insight:

What do CAR AIR FILTERS DO?

Air filters are very important parts of your cars performance system. They help your engine breathe easily by filtering out the dirt and dust that enters your car engine. The car engine sucks in tremendous amounts of air, and this air must be perfectly clean.

It is amazing what the engine will suck in, in summer time it sucks in millions of insects and dust particles and in autumn and winter apart from dirt and grime, the engine sucks in leaves and even water from the winter rains. All these things can end up in the engine compartment and eventually would be sucked into the inlet ports, but your air filter stops all this happening.

The air filter is most often encased in a plastic holder, or older cars could be made of metal. This casing is a secondary filter safeguard and is sometimes they are shaped like

kitchen pans, with the air intake looking like the pan handle, but the more modern cars have them shaped to fit in with the engine compartment. The plastic box has its own filter

air filters

Dirty air filter ready for changing

slits which helps trap larger objects such as leaves.

Air Filters

It is therefore very important to have your car serviced at regular intervals and to make sure that the garage changes the oil and air filter by asking them to see the old ones when you pick the car up. If you do not change the air filter it will slowly clog up with dirt and starve your engine from oxygen.

This will hamper the performance of your car. The biggest problem is in Fuel-injected cars, because a dirty oil filter will hamper the performance of your car. It is great when a customer has just had his car serviced and notices the difference in the cars performance, this is usually because of the new air and oil filters.

Air filters are manufactured by many different companies, but here in Halifax UK we use Unipart filters because of the quality of the parts and we are a Unipart Car Care Centre.

Motor Codes good news for the motorists

This is good news for motoring public of Great Britain. Over the years there have been many attempts to start up schemes similar to Motor Codes, that will protect the motoring public from dishonest garages. Unfortunately none of these have really taken off.

Motor Codes

Look for this motor codes sign for better service

It is something that I have always being looking for in my own garage, but did not find any this type of organizations that were what i would call, genuine?. The other schemes that i looked at always seemed to be tied up with some product or other and you had to buy so much of a certain product, to take part in the scheme, in my opinion this was not very genuine enough reason to be a member, and so I did not take part.

Then a garage scheme known as Motor Codes  that was also recommended by the government here in the UK came along and this ticked all the boxes for me. As soon as i saw what was on offer I became a member. In my opinion this scheme was for the independent garage and their “customer care priorities”.

Motor Codes good for tyre safety

The best way for the motorist is to check out their website and see what  members have to offer car driver of today. The garages that join the scheme have all to be checked on all sorts of things such as safety and good garage practices. But more important they give assurances to our customers, regarding prices and the quality of the parts that we use on their cars for servicing and repairs. To me this part of the deal was the most important to me , the extra protection

Car Servicing Choice-Which One Would You Trust ?the Main Dealer or the independent?

Car Servicing Choice

Car Servicing Choice

Motoring

Car Servicing Choice : Dealer or independent?

Motoring

It’s a question most owners of cars that are still under warranty are often confronted with: “Dealer servicing can be very expensive, independent operators can be less so.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Independent or Main Dealer for Car Servicing Choice ?

To me this is a no brainer. But I would say that wouldn’t I?  This has been a long standing argument. Probably always will be. In both sectors of the car servicing market we have good and bad garages. The main dealers do seem to come and go quicker than the independent garages. Probably because they are under the wings of the Car manufacturers that they are the franchise for.

Car Servicing Choice

Car Servicing Choice Part of Unipart independent servicing garage in Halifax UK

Here in Halifax alone we have had several franchise garages.Hence, that have closed down recently. Some have re-opened as they connect with other car manufacturing companies.

For example the Skoda garage becomes the Fiat dealership and so on. So,it happens all the time. Some of them don’t appear to last a year or two. Thus, before they either close down or change hands. Of course, that’s the picture here in the UK. Also, I suspect the same will apply to the States.

On the other hand the smaller Independent garage seem to “tough it out”. Providing they are honest and keep a good business. Consequently they will always survive.

Although I have noticed that there are a few more smaller auto centres. Subsequently, here in the North of England are up “for sale”. Mainly because the owners are retiring ,”so it say’s in the adds”. In my opinion it may be because they are under a bit of pressure at the moment, due to the economy, I am not sure.

The larger independent garages are joining national groups, to give them a more corporate image. For example I am a Unipart Car Care Centre, and our garages are vetted for quality and workman ship practices with the emphasis on fair prices for the motorists and a better Car Servicing Choice . This gives me satisfaction that I am a local business. So as well as a Car Garage.

Keeping my eyes on local competition and trends, whilst at the same time we have nationwide corporate image, sort of “best of both worlds”. To me this formula is a winner and at the moment we are very busy, so the proof is in the pudding, we can give good service and a good Car Servicing Choice to our customers, where the franchised dealers will always struggle to compete on price and service.

MOT Test Combined with Car Servicing

Unlike an MOT test, servicing is not a legal requirement for your vehicle. However, you will probably find that regular servicing can help to keep everything.

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

We all must be responsible for our cars servicing and MOT test

Sometimes I find it a great shame. Incredibly,  that we in the motor trade. Insistently, have to keep harping on about servicing your cars. One of the main excuses in recent times! Of course, has been the recession. Recently, car drivers just haven’t had any spare cash to spend on their vehicles. Consequently, we have all seen people just putting £10’s worth of fuel into their cars at the filling station? Ridiculous, but true !

In my opinion I think that these people should have some kind of a budget. A sort of “piggy bank” and save to have their vehicle serviced. Including any mechanical work required when it goes in for its annual MOT test. Incidentally it is estimated that 4.7 million miss their mot testing date. I am sure that drivers either just flaunt the law or are not aware that driving your

mot test

Popular MOT Test sign seen throughout the UK

car without a valid MOT test certificate is an offense reference section 47 of the 1988 Road Traffic Act.

More reading… http://www.mybrief.com/drivingoffences.asp?type=29&p=No%20M.O.T

Also driving without an MOT test will make your insurance invalid and you may receive a fine of up to £1000. Is it really worth it, when you can have an MOT test and a service for most average family saloons for around £150? If you are not sure where you can go for your vehicle serviced you should go online and look for your nearest Unipart Car Care Centre (UCCC), they will offer you excellent service at a fair price.

Once you have had your MOT test and service you should be safer for another year, although I recommend that you have an engine oil and filter change in between the tests to be on the safe side. Also do not forget check your levels at regular periods, say once a week and top them up when required.

Here we are now at the back end of 2014, nearing Christmas time and the price of fuel has plummeted. The only problem is that the price of oil and petrol is not following as fast. The experts say that it may take a little longer for this to take place, but i was just wondering if services on cars wold be also coming down. I am not so sure , but i suspect so.
