timing belt cam shaft engine problems

    Timing Belt Needs Changing Sir

    Timing Belt Needs Changing Sir

    Timing Belt Needs Changing Sir
    Timing Belt Needs Changing Sir

    Timing Belt Needs Changing Sir

Change your timing belt; it’s imperative?

When our customers are having a service to their car, there are certain things that we will report to them. Thus, when their cars service is complete. What we do which is what most garages do!

So, nowadays, is to take a contact number of the person who’s car it is having a service. Before mobile phones this would have been more difficult to do. But now most of our customers have some sort of mobile phone or other.

The things we report on are such things as tyres or worn steering parts. So, these can be changed later on in the day if the customer is contacted . Of course, and we will have time to carry out the repairs. One important thing though is the Timing or cam belt. The Timing Belt Kits come in two types. The chain type, which as the word say’s is very similar to a motor bike chain. More commonly, the rubber looking belt! Consequently, that looks very similar to a fan belt. Including looking like  the belt that drives your washing machine or spin dryer.

This is made out of very strong material, similar to the materials that tyres are made from.

The importance of the timing belt cannot be overstressed. If the belt breaks in use then the engine can be damaged beyond repair. When we carry out a service we always check in the Autodata online manual. Naturally, for the exact time for the belt to be changed. Sometimes it will state a Timing Belt Intervals and other times it may state a time period. However, usually it will be between 60000miles and 100000 miles when the new belt should be fitted.

This is also important to know if you buy a second hand car. I have known customers who have had a car for a couple of months and their timing belt has snapped leaving them with a

blown up engine and no redress from the person that they bought the Old Cars from, so if you buy a second hand car you must only buy one with a history record and the knowledge of the timing belt, otherwise you could be caught out with a huge repair bill, always ask about the timing belt?

A simple explanation of what this important part does is as follows; the timing belt is used to turn the camshaft at exactly half the speed of the crankshaft. Your camshaft controls the opening and closing of the valves in time to the pistons going up and down the engines cylinders. The camshaft belt runs on pulleys at the end of each important part and very often also drives the water pump. Should the belt break; then all these other parts simply smash into each, other causing major damage to the car’s engine.

The timing belt is spinning at tremendous speed and generates much heat,

So the belt is subject to many pressures and eventually starts to break up and cracking starts to appear, once again very similar to tyres. Perhaps you can see now why it is so important to change the belt at the correct time. Importantly, we also recommend that you change the water pump at the same time. The water pump runs on a bearing and the bearings tend to wear out at the same time. If the water pump is not changed and goes at a later date, then the garage will have all the same work to carry out all over again.

Many different companies makes of timing belt but we prefer to use leading brand belts. Because, our customers are covered under a warranty should anything go wrong with the part or the fitting of your new belt. You will be covered across the whole of the mainland UK, under the terms of the warranty a great protection to have.

    So to finalise,

If your garage warns you that the timing belt is due for a change, get it done as soon as you can afford to, before the thing breaks and causes much more damage to the car and to your wallet or purse. Timing belt replacement times should be checked at your cars servicing intervals.

Ethan’s Skillful Handling of a Vehicle Repair in Our Halifax Garage

Eric Roberts writes about some of the work we carry out on customers cars here at Pellon Autocentre in Halifax, UK.
Hi there, to all of you beautiful Halifax people! I’m thrilled to tell you a small tale today from our little piece of Halifax, where the sound of tools clattering and humming creates a symphony as rhythmic as the rhythms of our ancient town. This isn’t just another day at my garage down Pellon Lane in Halifax, UK—one of our talented mechanics, Ethan, has transformed a standard car service into a work of art.

The main character of our tale is a local customer of ours from Southowram who, consequently, loves his Vauxhall Corsa but, however, realised it needed a little maintenance when it came into my garage. And Ethan is the ideal person to entrust it to. He is a skilled craftsman who has a talent for making cars function as smoothly as a well-cooked Sunday roast Yorkshire pudding. He is not just any technician.

To ensure the engine would run cleaner and more effectively

Ethan started with the essentials: changing the oil and oil filter. It’s similar to giving the car’s lungs fresh life. He continued by changing the air filter, which frequently becomes clogged by the dust and debris that our Halifax roads generate. The car’s engine can breathe more readily with a fresh air filter, which improves performance and fuel economy.

The spark plugs were the next item on the list. The unsung heroes of your car’s engine are these little men. After replacing the worn-out spark plugs with Ethan’s delicate touch and a trusty spark plug spanner, the Ford Focus regained its lacklustre start. It’s incredible how a tiny adjustment can have such a significant impact! including helping the environment !

However, Ethan’s efforts didn’t end there.

He filled out the coolant and other fluids and examined the tyres and brakes. This meticulous attention to detail guarantees dependability and safety. Imagine it as Ethan preparing the vehicle, rain or shine, for the fickle Yorkshire weather.

The Vauxhall Corsa was not merely serviced but rather revitalised after a few hours. It purred like a contented kitten as Ethan drove it to the top of Pellon Lane and back on a test drive. He returned with that satisfied expression that only appears when one loves and excels at what they do. The owner was pleased to learn that Ethan’s hard work had kept his car in excellent condition.

This story from our garage serves as a reminder

of the love and care we put into each and every vehicle that comes through our doors. We give every car the respect and care it needs, whether it’s a significant repair, a comprehensive service, or a fast check-up. Maintaining a portion of our Halifax community is more important than merely keeping cars in good working order.

Remember that Ethan and our staff are here to keep your car in top condition, whether you’re speeding through the city or taking the picturesque routes throughout Yorkshire. Many more happy miles of efficient and safe driving are ahead of us. I’ll see you in the garage!

This is in reply to your tweet, “Why Your Employees May Be Looking to Quit.”.

State of the Auto repair Industry

I am going to try to answer this complex question! As the owner of a small garage in the county of West Yorkshire, UK, there are many factors. Long-term, then, it all boils down to how you or your management treat people (your staff, of course).

In my opinion, this is why small and medium garages have always come out in the best health when times get tough. I have now been running my garage for almost fifty years. Many of my staff are long-term employees.

These good people are diamonds and should be looked after all along the way. Millions of small and medium garage and autocentre owners will know exactly what I mean.

We all hear horror stories about how the national garage chains treat there staff. Forcing them to work extra hours and always having to sell addons when they are not required.

Customers are not stupid-State of the Auto repair Industry

I always make sure that my staff is looked after so they, too, can make a good living out of the business. Some owners prefer to do this illegally . However, I prefer to use various bonus schemes. I must emphasise that these bonus schemes are not tied down to any targets in any way.

All my married staff have settled into nice homes and have a good standard of living. This is how it should be. The only thing that I ask is that they are polite and helpful to the customers. All my staff are taught to be multi-taskers.

Not only do they do the job of repairing cars, but they can also take the customers through the whole procedure of paying for the work done, issuing sales invoices, and dealing with credit card payments.

I find that this gives the staff and the customers a better shopping experience due to the personal contact. Another thing I ask for is that my staff have total access to our computer system and can also answer any phone calls.

We do have receptionists and depot managers- in the Auto repair Industry

However, should they be busy or on another call, then any member of staff can take the call and have the power to deal with the customer if they can. Customers are not stupid; they can see that my garage is a well-run and happy operation.

We are not perfect, and sometimes we do get a bad apple. However, they are sussed out early, and it is usually through my staff.

I could go on for ages, but to bring things up to 2022, where we are now, then we do have staffing problems going forward !

At the moment, because people are keeping their cars longer, we are packed out of the Auto repair Industry

We are also an MOT testing station and are booked up for three weeks at the moment. I am struggling to find at least two new members of staff.

It looks like younger people do not  want to get their hands dirty anymore. My only hope for the state of the auto repair industry is for some return to the apprenticeship schemes we had in days gone by.

Once you get them then you must work hard to keep them ?

Pellon Autocentre is an MOT Testing Halifax station with over 20 years experience.

MOT testing in Halifax is part of a series of explanations. How the MOT Rules works to keep your car safe and legal. When you prepare your car for the MOT test, the following advice will apply:. Especially when dealing with wheels and tyres. The first thing to check are the wheels.

As a result, if you have alloy wheels. You should check for serious damage and cracks. Also, you must have a full set of wheel nuts fitted. If your car has steel wheels and plastic hub caps,. Of course, the tightness of the nuts will not be checked by the tester. Thus, they will only be checked if you remove the hub caps before the car is tested.

If any nuts are missing, then this will result in a failure.

According to the DVLA MOT Rules,. The condition of the tyre is very important. Testers look for any side wall damage and for any cuts or damage to the tyre tread. The tester will also check the tread depth. Using his official tread depth gauge,. The legal limit is 1.6 mm across three-quarters of the tread width.

Tread depth can, of course, be detected by a visual look at the tyres. Of course, before you present the car for a test,. Tyre manufacturers build into the tyre treads a wear indicator bar. When the tyre wears down to the bar, a bald patch is visible. Police officers also use these bars for a quick check of tyre condition. Especially when stopping a motorist for a checkover.

Spare wheels and tyres are not part of the MOT test.

MOT Testing Halifax. You may not present a car for a test with a temporary spare on the car. Also, you must present the car with the best four wheels and tyres on it.

Tyre sizes are checked on the car on the same axle. But other information, such as load ratings, is not checked.Because this is deemed too technical. As a result, some cars may break the law. They are not part of an MOT test and, therefore, will not fail.

It is always good practice to have your car checked out

or have a service when you have your car tested; this will ensure that your car is legal and safe. Pellon Autocentre is leading MOT testing in the Halifax area.

Pellon Tyre and Autocentre offer car and van servicing and repairs to all makes of vehicles.

Cheap Brake Pads: Are they Worth It?

    Cheap Brake Pads

    Cheap Brake Pads

Of course, your vehicle’s braking system is composed of multiple components. Subsequently, work in tandem to bring your vehicle to a halt once the brake pedal is engaged. The hydraulic system, which most automobiles utilise. Hence, it uses fluid to transmit the pressure from the brake pedal to the brake. The brake discs are wheel-mounted concave discs. It converts the kinetic energy into thermal energy. Which is subsequently absorbed and dissipated by the brake.

Brake fluid is stored within the master cylinder and flows into the callipers. Cheap Brake Pads

through the brake pipes (lines), of course, which clamp the brake pads onto the rotors. Thus stopping the vehicle. The brake pads, which are composed of steel with surface-bound friction material,. Ultimately, press against the rotor to create the necessary friction to decelerate and halt the car.

As all motorists know, the pads will eventually deteriorate due to constant contact with the rotors. Furthermore, driving habits can affect the brake pad’s lifespan. For instance, frequent braking or driving through urban areas. Which require frequent stops and starts, can necessitate brake pad replacement more often.

Four brake pad types are available, each with distinct performance and cost differences.

They are, in order of increasing price and therefore usually better quality:

Low-Metallic, Non-Asbestos Organic: These brake pads are budget-friendly, but they are also the loudest and generate the most brake dust, which can reduce braking effectiveness.

Non-Asbestos Organic: These brake pads are made of rubber, glass, fibre, or Kevlar. They are extremely silent, but they wear out much faster than other types and generate a lot of dust.

Semi-metallic: These brake pads contain 30% to 65% metal, typically steel, copper, composite alloys, or iron. Durable and economical, semi-metallic brake pads are gentler on the rotors than ceramic pads, but they perform worse in extreme weather conditions and produce more noise.

Ceramic: Ceramic brake pads are the most expensive, but they are also the highest-performing and most silent option. Unlike the plates in your kitchen cabinet, ceramic pads are interwoven with copper strands to make them tough enough to withstand prolonged usage.

Cheap Brake Pads- VERSUS EXPENSIVE BRAKE PADS

Most cars sold today come with non-asbestos organic brake pads. These are designed for road use and function well in your vehicle. Additionally, they are cost-effective, although they will need to be replaced frequently. Here at Pellon Tyres, we use the best pads possible to suit the customer’s particular budget. We never use the cheapest pads or any other brake parts, for that matter.

However, if you want a cleaner and quieter option, ceramic brake pads are the way to go. Although more expensive, ceramic pads will last much longer and can even extend the lifespan of other brake components because of their high heat resistance. Certain car models recommend we fit these ceramic pads, so we do!

It’s important to remember that ceramic brake pads produce less friction. Cheap Brake Pads

resulting in a longer stopping distance. As a result, larger vehicles, like SUVs and trucks, are better off with organic pads.

Regardless of which type of brake pads you choose, it’s essential to invest in high-quality versions. Cheap brake pads not only generate a lot of dust and noise but also pose a significant safety hazard.

Brake pads are seen to be the products of harmful dust and therefore bad for the environment. I fear that this will be a problem for governments to face in the future.

Keeping Your Car In The Best Condition

When you have gotten your hands on a car that you are truly happy with, you are going to want to
Make sure that you are taking the best possible care of it. There are a lot of people out there who do
not realise just how important this is. Keeping your car in good condition is not just about making
sure that you take it in for a wash every month or so, or that you try not to forget about taking it for

its MOT. Keeping Your car in the Best Condition

It’s about making sure that it continues to offer you the best possible performance and that you
stop its value from depreciating. With each passing year, and perhaps more importantly, with each
passing mile, you are putting your car through a lot of wear and tear, especially if you are driving at
    events.

But with the right maintenance, you can keep the impact of those road surfaces, adverse
    weather conditions,
and the simple act of driving itself, to a minimum. Here is a guide to how you
can keep your car in the best condition possible.

Watch How You Drive. Keeping Your car in the Best Condition

Let’s start by talking about something that many people don’t think about when they think about car
maintenance. The way that you drive has a huge impact on the condition of your vehicle. Driving as
smoothly as possible, without any sudden pressure on the brakes or accelerator, should help to
reduce the standard wear and tear.

However, it is also important to ensure that you are revving your
engine often enough to keep anything from being clogged up. Regular use is the key here, which can
sometimes be tricky if you are looking after a modified car that you drive at special events. Find a
way to take it out when you can.

    Keep It Clean

This one is arguably the simplest of the points we are going to cover but it is certainly one of the
most important. If you leave your car dirty after a drive, the dirt and debris may start to stick and
cause corrosion. It is also important to give your car a clean if you have been driving on icy roads, or
recently iced roads, as the chemicals that are used to keep the roads drivable can do a number on
your paintwork. It may seem like a superficial job, but it plays a massive part in keeping everything in
    good condition.

Get Your Battery Checked. Keeping Your car in the Best Condition

You should be checking that everything is working properly with your battery on a regular basis. If
you have had the same car for three years or more, then it is particularly important to take it into a
mechanic if you notice anything unusual, but it is always better to be on the safe side.

    Remember
that your battery can run down even when you are not using your car. In fact, this is often how
Batteries end up dead, and replacement batteries can cost a huge amount. So, even if you don’t do a
lot of driving, try to take your car out for a spin on a semi-regular basis. There is battery charging
packs called trickle chargers that you can buy if you know that you are not going to be driving for a
    few months.

Find Insurance That Works For You

One of the best ways that you can make sure that your car stays in good condition is by finding
quality insurance coverage. There are always going to be things that you can’t plan for. Sometimes
Freaky accidents just happen, and other drivers on the road may not be as careful as you are when it
when it comes to watching where they are going.

Repairing a damaged car can be costly, particularly if you
are driving a modified or high-performance car. If you want to have the peace of mind that your
vehicle is going to be in safe hands no matter what happens, then why not look for modified car
insurance that will cover you. Reis can arrange coverage for road cars that have been modified and
They have experience in helping drivers who attend rain or shine shows, exhibitions, or specialist

shows, and you can find out more here. They have a range of different options to help you find the
    perfect policy for you.

    Don’t Forget The Oil Levels

Checking your oil levels is one of the most essential parts of keeping your car in good condition.
Engine oil keeps everything lubricated and running smoothly, and if you are driving without the right
levels, then you will start to damage your car quickly.

The good news is that checking your engine oil
levels is fairly simple to accomplish on your own. Just make sure that your car is on a flat surface and that the
engine is cool, then pop the bonnet up and use the dipstick to check the level. However, it is also a
It’s a good idea to get your oil checked professionally on a regular basis.

It’s not just about making sure
that you have enough oil in there, you also need to see if it needs to be changed. Which brings us to
    our next point.

Find A Garage That You Trust And Visit Regularly

A lot of people view taking their car to the garage for a professional mechanic’s inspection as a
chore. However, if your car is important to you, it’s just as important to do this as it is for you to go
to the doctor or the dentist on a regular basis.

To start with, never put off going for your MOT. It is
    required by law,
and you could be facing a thousand-pound fine if they find that you are driving on
an expired one. You can look at minor services that will look at your car’s fluid and oil levels and any
leaks in the tyres, exhaust, brakes, gearbox, and steering wheel.

They will also cover everything from
the suspension to your car horn. Major services tend to cover things like replacements and will cost
more. If you can identify any potential problems before getting to that point, then you’ll be much
    better off.

Knowing OEM-Specific Oils: The Ultimate Choice for Your Engine

Hi there, car lovers ! Today, let’s discuss something that frequently comes up, whether you’re talking to your mechanic or perusing the oil aisle: OEM spec oils. “What on earth does OEM spec mean?” may be on your mind. So fasten your seatbelts, because we’re going to take a brief look at the world of engine oil.

    What does OEM mean?

The acronym OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, first and foremost. OEM-spec oil indicates that it satisfies the exact requirements established by the vehicle’s manufacturer. To put it another way, it’s the oil that the people who created your engine have approved and tested. The oil has been specifically engineered to function flawlessly with the complex components and requirements of your specific make and model.

What Makes OEM Spec Oils Useful?

    1. Optimal Performance: OEM specification oils are designed to give your car’s engine the optimum possible performance. They provide you more power and fuel economy by ensuring that everything functions properly.
    2. Engine Longevity: Proper oil selection lessens engine component wear and tear. It’s similar to providing the greatest maintenance for your car to keep it in good condition and ensure longer trouble-free driving.
    3. Warranty Compliance: Automobile guarantees may be complex. Using oils that are not up to OEM standards could make your warranty void. By using the suggested oils, you may be sure you’ll be covered in case something goes wrong.
    4. Tailored Additives: The requirements of various engines vary. Whether it’s lowering friction, avoiding deposits, or guarding against high temperatures, OEM specification oils are designed with particular additives to meet these demands.

    Recognising OEM-Specific Oils

Look for labels that include OEM specs when you’re searching for oil. Words like “satisfies the requirements of [Manufacturer]” or “approved by [Manufacturer]” are frequently used in these. Additionally, there’s a chance that certain certifications—like ACEA, API, or ILSAC ratings—that meet the specifications for your car will be mentioned.

The Final Word- Use OEM Spec Oils

Giving your car the best is the main reason to use OEM standard oils. It’s about making sure your engine is safe and operating at its best every time you get on the road. Make sure you’re using the correct parts the next time your car needs an oil change by taking a moment to consult your owner’s manual or asking your mechanic.

So now you know that when someone refers to OEM spec oils, it’s not just marketing speak; rather, it’s a guarantee of quality and performance from the folks who know your automobile the best.

Have fun on the road and keep those motors running!

So with loads of cheap oil offers floating about our garages, it is important to make sure that the oil has the OEM specifications. of course, most of us garage owners are familiar with the consequencesThe EU has established the majority of the rules and laws that control how we service vehicles.by the EU. Although we are no longer members, we are still part of the agreement network until things change in the future.

Car manufacturers are not able to

tie their cars to their dealer network for servicing. So, this allows the independent garage network to service models as long as the same standard of oils and service parts were used. Most of the good garages are well aware of this and unfortunately, others dont give a damn!

Oil companies such as Millers Oils

here in West Yorkshire have to set certain qualities and standards into their oils. Thus allowing them to be used on a car that is under warranty. This means that car manufacturers  can not turn a car away for warranty work simply because it was serviced elsewhere.

Main dealer garages – Use OEM Spec Oils

often tell their customers this untrue story. Cars and Vans can be serviced while a new car is still under warranty, as long as the parts used are of the same quality as the original equipment parts. Of course, including oils such as Millers Oils.

In 2024 we have now joined Tyresafe.org to help in tyre safety campaigns.

When it comes to oils there are two phrases that are often used: “meets specification” and “OEM approved”. Whilst commonly used, Millers Oils often gets asked what the difference really is and does the difference affect

    Customers Satisfaction Ratings

I must admit that in most of my years as a garage owner, customer satisfaction ratings were never known. Of course, up until the advent of modern computers, there were no such things as ratings for your customers. So it has become a thing of the future! And why not. Importantly, it is one of the best indicators that your business is doing well. Whatever type of product or service you are selling,.

Another happy positive is that when you have high ratings, it’s no coincidence that your business will thrive. Anyhow, that’s my experience! Consequences also set out other parameters that will give the thriving business the best results. In my opinion, the number one factor is having the right staff. Especially when in a garage situation.

Garage owners just dont get it ! Customers Satisfaction Ratings

Of course, the  garages of today have a lot to thank for the start of the “Kwik-Fit” era. Coming out of an American idea from the infamous Tommy Farmer, fast fits brought the garage industry into the 21st century. Incidentally, we do still have the dirty back street type of garages and scruffy second-hand tyre shops for all to see.

However, the garages that prosper will have all the right mixtures of ideas and cleanliness that modern driver s are looking for. This also reflects on the particular garage businesses ratings of customer satisfaction.

These days of consumerism mean that we all have to try harder

be more polite and generally “bend over backwards”. So to keep our ratings high,. Consumers are very savvy  and will freely give a business a good review. Strangely enough, there does not seem to be a middle-of-the-road review!

At least not with us at Pellon Autocentre. Most reviews are, in fact, 5 stars, which is excellent for us. However, we get the odd customer who will give us just a 1-star rating.

I must confess that I used to hate this. Although very rare then it is all part of system. We will never please everybody! Now I take the time to look into this. So, when we receive a low rating then I now investigate the poor result. Then first thing that hits me is that my excellent staff always know about the circumstances. I truly believe that there is a certain type of person who is never going to be happy.

Whatever and wherever they go, these people are trouble.

So, I know before I say anything that my staff know exactly what has happened. Believe me or not, it is always the customer that has caused the problem, leading to them giving us a 1-star rating. Importantly, we do make mistakes! After all, we are only humans.

But a good garage will handle any problem in the correct manner. Always change a possible bad situation into a good outcome. This includes all our garage services and products. Including tyres and associated services. and MOT testing.

Finally, we do have good reviews on Google and Facebook.

But in my opinion, our online tyre portal, www.pellontyres.co.uk is the most accurate and is not open to any low-scoring abuse from “keyboard warriors.”.

Subsequently, try to knock your reputation by giving a false low score. Below, I have published our excellent results and would like to thank our great customers. So, thank you for taking the time and energy to give us the results that all businesses dream about.

Forward to 2024 here at Pellon Tyres we are now members of Tyresafe.org to help promote safety.

    Net Promoter Score Results

What does your NPS score mean?

Your NPS score tracks customers on how they represent your company to their family, friends and colleagues.

    • A negative score means you have more Detractors than Promoters and your organization is unlikely to grow.
    • A NPS score of above 0 is considered to be good.
    • A NPS score above 50 is considered to be exceptional. This also indicates that awareness of your organization will grow through word-of-mouth marketing.

The NPS score is calculated by subtracting the percentage of Detractors (those who scored your fitting centre as a 0-6) from Promoters (those that scored your fitting centre as 9-10). This generates your Net Promoter Score.

Many Thanks from me and all my excellent staff for their contribution to having great Customers Satisfaction Ratings.
