We always fit Best Winter Tyres to our vehicles, and I can guarantee that they make you feel much safer in snow and bad inclement weather, and that’s because they are much safer than summer ones.

The Development of Winter and All-Season Tyres for Safer Driving: Tyres Through the Seasons

Hello there, everybody! What’s the weather like? It’s becoming chilly, don’t you think?

Therefore now is the ideal moment to discuss winter and all-season tyres. Driving has significantly improved over the past few years, and a large part of that improvement may be attributed to tyres. Now grab a beverage, and let’s get started!

A Long Time Ago in TyreYour winter tyres Tips

Remember the days when all-season tyres weren’t truly for all seasons and winter tyres were scarce as hen’s teeth? The era has long since passed. These days, we have solutions that make driving safer in practically any situation, from the heat of the summer to the snowy end of the world.

Winter Tyres: They’re Not Only for Ski holidays

Hence, winter tyres were formerly just something you’d think about if you were going on a ski trip or resided at the top of a mountain. Yet they’re turning into a necessity considering how unpredictable winters are. These tyres now have improved tread designs, deeper grooves, and modern rubber compounds that maintain flexibility in freezing temperatures.

All-Season Tyres: The Multi-Tasker

Another huge winner in the safety category is all-season tyres. They now operate better in the rain and have excellent traction in snowy and icy weather thanks to recent revisions. Having a pair of all-season tyres is like having a Swiss Army knife for your automobile as more storms approach the UK.

How to Handle Storms- Your winter tyres Tips

Speaking of storms, don’t you think they’re getting more frequent? Whether it’s flooding, significant snowfall, or plain dreary drizzle, tyres have been modified to withstand anything. I’m referring to features like stiffer sidewalls for improved control in windy conditions and water-dispersion technology, which helps to prevent aquaplaning.

Enhancing Road Safety in Halifax

Why should Halifax residents care? Now, as we are all aware, our weather is frequently indecisive. It may be sunny one minute and hailing the next, and then who knows? Here more than anyplace, having safe tyres is essential, and fortunately, advances in tyre technology are keeping us safe on our unpredictable roadways.

In summary-Your winter tyres Tips

All OK, bye for now. You know where to find me if you’re thinking about changing your tyres. Maintain your safety and warmth, and let’s make this winter a safe one for drivers!

It seems crazy to me? here I am In the middle of August. Writing about winter tyres. This is something that I have done for years now. Unfortunately, I just cant get out of the habit.

I think it may be that the days are already getting shorter. Of course, I am an early riser. Consequently, the mornings are now in darkness at 5 am when I get up and see to my dogs.

So this is when I start to think about the winter and of course, winter tyres. As a result, I always order my first load of logs for the winter fires at this time of year.

Falken Safety Winter Tyres: this winter at Pellon Tyres

Of course, winter tyres are the ultimate safety companion for your car. Therefore, there are a number of separate tests. It has been shown that winter tyres are the only ones that reduce braking distances. Thus, when driving in the winter,. Winter tyres have a far shorter stopping distance when braking in snow than regular summer tyres. Hence, they are fitted as original equipment by car manufacturers.

Of course, in many parts of Europe, motorists are required by law to fit their car with winter tyres. From November onwards, vehicles that are not fitted with approved winter tyres. Hence, they are not allowed to use the roads. According to a number of separate tyre tests,. Winter tyres are the only ones that reduce braking distances when driving in the winter.

The countries with winter tyre laws do have a harsher winter than the UK. However as we all know then bad weather can strike at any time. Drivers in say Finland will drive on snow throughout the winter. The UK is different with our climate of mixed weather. it is though a more dangerous scenario. When the snow does arrive, then we are not ready for it. As a result, we get into all sorts of trouble. Trying to drive on snow covered roads with summer tyres fitted to their cars.

Falken Safety Winter Tyres Whats the difference?

When you look at a winter tyre compared to a summer tyre,. Then you will see the main difference? Winter tyres are designed with very small slits called sipes. Down the edges of the main tread blocks. On top of helping with grip, they displace slush and snow a lot better than other seasonal tyres. In my opinion, this includes all-weather tyres. Summer tyres for example, when going over snow, compact it, making it extremely slippery and solid.

Also, winter tyres are made out of a different compound than summer tyres. This includes a silica-based material that allows the tyres to flex better. Especially when the temperature drops below 7 degrees C. This allows the tyre sidewall to become more flexible. Thus giving the tread with all the sipes a better footprint in bad weather. We have nothing but praise from our regular customers. When they have fitted winters and therefore have had no safety issues in any types of weather.

For the past couple of years, our winters have been mild, wet, and slushy at worst. So there is now almost an entire generation of drivers. You may have to start learning the skills of snow and ice driving. So, during those late autumn months, it would be a good choice to take those summers off and slap on the winters. As I have emphasised,. Winter tyres will pay for themselves in terms of control and safety before you know it.

falken Safety Winter Tyres are a massive safety feature

For a long time, we in the tyre trade have had to dispel a wide spread and out dated belief. Hence, that winter tyres can only be used in icy or snow covered surfaces. Perhaps at one time this was true, but with the advances in rubber compound technology by adding “silica“. Including, tread pattern design. Then these tyres today can be used in many other inclement weather circumstances.

A recent survey was conducted in Canada. It was reported that those who drive with winter tyres on their cars. As a result, we suffer fewer accidents. In fact, most of Canada makes winter tyres compulsory in the winter months. British Columbia have very stringent tyre laws relating to winter driving. Including a 3.5 mm tread depth on winter tyres. Of all the accidents that happened on Prince Edward Island, only 6% were fitted with winter tyres.

What is the reason behind such laws? Well, it’s pretty obvious: winter tyres significantly help you maintain control during times when perhaps other tyres, not designed for driving in ice, snow, or heavy rain, would let you down. This includes the drivers here in the UK. For this reason, I have chosen Falken winter tyres as my main tyre line this winter. Both of these tyre brands have world-wide recognition for their quality and durability in the toughest of winter weather conditions.

Driving in Winter

Most people understand that driving in snow can be a little tricky. However, the danger hasn’t always passed once the snow has begun to melt. It’s also risky to drive in slush, the combination of melting snow, water, ice salt, and other debris that commonly develops on roads in late winter.

It can also develop at times when temperatures are just above freezing

but ice salt is melting any snow that lands on the ground. This can cause problems for pedestrians as well. If you’re a property owner, be sure to clear any slush from the sidewalk to avoid slip-and-fall accidents. This is a relatively quick job and can help you avoid being contacted by a personal injury lawyer.

Cleaning slush off the road is not as simple as cleaning it off the sidewalk, though. Read on to learn how to safely operate your vehicle even while the road is full of slush.

How to Safely Drive on Slush. Driving in Winter

Driving on slush is difficult because it allows for very little traction. Additionally, slush tends to accumulate in mounds or piles. This makes the surface very slippery for tires traveling over it. Tyres that turn against slush mounds are often met with a stronger-than-expected obstruction, which creates a side force.

This makes changing lanes particularly difficult. When the wheels meet the slush, it creates a braking effect in the front of the vehicle. Combined with little to no traction in the rear tires, as well as the turning movement which has already begun, the car may continue to turn. This could cause a driver to lose control of the vehicle.

That doesn’t have to happen. To make sure you don’t spin out when driving in slush, keep the following tips in mind: Driving in Winter

  • Never change lanes over slush mounds unless you genuinely have no other option.
  • Make a point of planning lane changes ahead of time so you can perform them in areas without slush.
  • When you are changing lanes or turning, do so gradually. This ensures the vehicle’s angle of approach is shallow. As a result, less force is exerted on the tires.
  • Grip the steering wheel firmly but loosely in order to maintain control of the vehicle if you do run into slush.
  • Exert a consistent amount of pressure on the accelerator. You want to maintain a relatively consistent speed in order to prevent a sudden braking or accelerating force.

All this said, the best way to avoid being involved in an accident is to avoid driving in slushy conditions whenever possible. However, there may be instances when it is necessary to get behind the wheel despite the presence of slush on the roads.

In these cases, remember that “slow and steady” is key to making safe lane changes. You also need to maintain a safe distance between yourself and other vehicles, as it can be difficult to brake in slush. By remembering these points, you’ll be much safer out on the road all winter.

Falken Winter Tyres-Scotland a Winter tyres Haven-Falken Winter Tyres 2024 Update

It is not rocket science to know that the further north we go in the British Isles, the colder it gets. Winters have become second nature to people living in Scotland, and this is the time of year that the Scots get ready for the inclement weather that will be heading their way. I have visited this beautiful country in all the seasons of the year, and you can guarantee that if you travel in late autumn through early spring, you will encounter snow.

Scotland has recently enjoyed very good snowfalls in its mountain ranges.

You must visit their website, especially the one I am most familiar with, the “Cairngorms,” to appreciate the winter wonderland and great skiing conditions that you can enjoy there.

Apart from all your skiing equipment, there is one thing you must not forget. Before travelling to Scotland in the winter, you should install Falken winter tyres on your vehicle. Or you should have a set fitted if you live in Scotland. Even if you are visiting the lower mountain ranges of Scotland, you are advised to buy a set of skis. You could be caught out at any time during the colder weather after the late autumn frosts.

Now, let’s talk about keeping your motor running smoothly- Falken Winter Tyres 2024 Update

especially when the frost starts biting. First up, give your car battery a once-over. Pop into any decent car battery service place – they’ll usually do a quick, free check for you, no fuss. With today’s cars packed with electronics like air conditioning and fancy management systems, a robust battery is more crucial than ever.

But here’s the real game changer – Falken Winter Tyres. You know how it is around here; even a bit of rain can turn the roads slippery, never mind the snow. If your tyres are as bald as a coot, you’re asking for trouble. These Falken beauties are a must, especially for the bigger cars and SUVs. Think BMWs, Mercedes, the works.

Winter tyres are now becoming a necessity for Northern England

Motorists living in Northern England are now starting to become familiar with the same climate problems that they experience in Scotland. Anyone can now get caught out in a snowstorm during late autumn and the whole of winter.

Most of Northern England is in hilly districts, from the Pennines and peaks of Derbyshire to the North Yorkshire moors and the mountains of the Lake District. This means that motorists in these areas require better grip on their cars. Car owners need at least a good normal summer tread pattern, but what they really need is one with a lot of tread. However, this won’t help when it starts to snow, and if you don’t have Falken Winter Tyres on your car, you’ll get stuck even in flat areas.

Winter Tyres will last for about three winters-Falken Winter Tyres 2024 Update

Of course, as long as you switch back to your summer tyres in the spring,. Naturally, this service is carried out by many local tyre companies, such as Pellon Tyre Centre in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Consequently, when you buy your winter boots, they will store them for you and re-fit the summer ones. Of course, once the threat of further bad weather has passed,. Nonetheless, the first time you need them fitted, they are free. followed by a small charge for re-fitting the following spring.

Nevertheless, this has been a large success in the past three years. Moreover, we are looking forward to seeing our repeat business in the years to come. Many of our previous customers tell us about getting stuck in the snow. They were able to avoid trouble because they had chosen the correct product for their vehicle.

In years gone by, winter tyres were made to look like tough tyres that gripped in snow. However, these tyres were probably made from the same materials as summer tyres. Older drivers amongst us have many concerns about the effectiveness of winter tyres. Hence, some consumers think that these types of tyres wear quicker and may degrade at a faster rate than those of normal car tyres.

As a result, it depends on your priorities; winter tyres are actually more expensive too. In my opinion, it is far better to be safer and spend a little more money than if you were to go skidding off the road. Hence, we just cannot compromise when it comes to the safety of your family. Yes, these tyres are expensive, but if you buy some at the very beginning of winter, you can get some really good deals. For example, here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax, Yorkshire, UK. So, we have a few last-year stocks for sale at reduced prices?

Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta Nine-Winter tyres have special compounds

Nowadays, Winter tyres are made from special compounds. Consequently, that works best at temperatures of 7 degrees or less. Most of the UK experiences temperatures below this between November and March. In particularly cold years, we can usually expect frost on almost half the days of winter. When you have winter tyres fitted to your vehicle, your stopping distance can be shortened by up to 30 feet on icy roads. Of course, your safety and the vehicle’s handling will be greatly improved. reducing the risk of skidding, aquaplaning, or sliding.

Tyre manufacturers are always striving .Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta Nine

to make better winter tyre products. So, go with the rule that the newer the type of tyre, the better it will be when you fit your new tyres. Tyre manufacturers are always working with car makers to come up with a better tyre product. Therefore, year after year, we are seeing better tyres. Including winter tyres. This is due to the fact that the technology that designs tyres these days is constantly advancing and evolving. Meaning that the latest tyres will always be the safest and most roadworthy.

Nokian Tyres are no exception to this rule. Constantly striving to make a better tyre product. New innovations include better tyre designs for newer types of vehicles. Including SUV’s and Crossover vehicles. hence, the tyres for these vehicle are designed to maximise traction on icy and snow-covered roads.I can remember that the first recent bad winter coincided with the advent of the SUV’s from BMW in particular. These cars were sliding all over the place and useless in the winter weather.

Nokia Tyres Hakkapeliitta Nine-Best fitted in early November

People were really panicking ? Winter tyres were difficult to get hold of. Most of the allocations were taken up and tyre dealers wanted silly prices due to the panic. When you first start to use snow tyres, you should understand when the best time is to put them on your motor vehicle. So,the usual rule is to have them fitted to the car before the first predicted snow fall of the year.  I usually fit the winter car tyres in early November.

Safe driving is really important during winter, and in addition to fitting winter tyres to your car, there are other ways to improve your driving during the colder months:
Winter tyres are essential when preparing to drive in ice conditions. The winter tyre (also known as the snow tyre) can protect you in those unexpected times when you get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Indeed, I can remember when I took my family to Chester zoo. It was a beautiful, sunny winters day. Later that afternoon, we sat down and went back home to Yorkshire.

So, as we approached the Pennine Hills, Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta Nine

On our way home, the sky became darker and darker. Never suspecting an imminent blizzard, I decided to take a short cut across some minor roads as we headed home. Of course, the snow began to fall? my kids were very excited at the thought of playing out in the horrible white stuff. Blizzard condition ensued. At the time, we had a Toyota minibus, and the roads soon filled with snow. As a result, I could feel the rear-wheeled Toyota slipping on the packed snow.

Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta Nine-Better designed tread pattern

Fortunately , I practice what I preach and fitted a set of Falken winter tyres to the minibus just a few weeks before. I knew that all I had to do was drive carefully, and the winter tyre would do the rest. Sure enough, they helped me get home when many other vehicles became stranded in the snowy conditions.

In my eyes, this was the “proof of the pudding” . Giving me even more enthusiasm when talking to my customers about the benefit of fitting Nokian winter tyres.

This experience proves that in winter. Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta Nine

The condition and performance of your Nokian tyres are extremely important. Winter tyres have a specially designed tread and composition. So, in order to provide the most effective grip, handling, and safety for drivers,. It’s an excellent idea, therefore, to change to specialist tyres to improve your winter driving. Increase your fuel efficiency. Ensuring the safety of you and your passengers during the winter months.

Nokian Tyres are constant tyre test winners with their winter tyre products. Then we at Pellon Tyres can only endorse them as probably the best ones that you can buy to keep your family safe? just in case you get caught in the wrong place. As me and my family did returning from a sunny Chester Zoo.

Finally, here in 2024, Pellon Tyres are not now Nokia dealers for Calderdale, Yorkshire, UK.

Ladies love to sit high up with good all round vision of the road. In actual fact so do I ! This is because when we are in a higher up seat position we all feel safer (ask truck drivers!!)

One of the slighter down sides of the SUV’s and Crossover cars is that the tyres are larger and in many cases narrower. This is how they have been developed with the car manufacturers. Of course, these cars are fitted with summer tyres. Nothing wrong with that! until winter comes along. I will never forget the first winter when the BMW and Mercedes SUV’s were on the roads for the first time.

Nokian Winter Tyres Winners

This winter is becoming one of the best years for our customers buying their first set of winter tyres.(Nokian Winter Tyres Winners)

It is probably due to the fact that we have had a run of cold snowy winters. Over the past three or four years and the need for winter tyres are slowly sinking in. We also have a large Polish community in the Halifax area. Of course this is where where my tyre-centre is situated. Polish people are familiar with the need for winter tyres. In fact I think it may now be compulsory in Poland to fit winter tyres from November to march. Hence, the same as some other European countries.

Which winter tyres ?

We have found over the years that as an independent tyre retailer, most customers think in two ways. Either they know exactly what they want, or they will take our recommendations. Of course, as to which brand and at what price to pay for their tyres.

The majority of our customers come to us on word of mouth recommendations. Because they have received good advice and service in the past. Subsequently, we know this because we do not advertise as such. Perhaps, only through social media sites and internet directories.

In the past when our profit margins were higher we would regularly take out full page ads in the local papers, costing us an arm and a leg, we never really knew if the ads paid off or not.

We have and still do sell many different brands of tyres including winter tyres. In the past two years we have been able to buy our tyres from the major tyre companies because we are a member of a buying group known as Micheldever tyres.

Nokian Winter Tyres Winners

We were very happy to open an account with Nokian Winter Tyres . Because we knew from experience that this company made excellent tyres, including winter tyres. This will be our third year selling Nokian Winter Tyres Winners and we are pleased with the very good response we had from the drivers who have experienced these tyres in winter conditions. The Halifax area is very hilly, we are in the foothills of the Pennine mountain range and therefore we have very tricky roads. Especially in winter snowy conditions.

The latest car to arrive for a set of four Nokian Winter Tyres was a Land Rover-Freelander 2-GS-TD4. This nice looking car had a set of four 235/65R17 108H  Winter tyres. It’s great when you love the job that you are doing and can write about it in our company blog.

Of course Nokian are one of the world leaders in tyres. Especially winter tyres. So, manufacturing an excellent range of tyre products. In my opinion though, their winter tyres are second to none. offering different types of tyres for climates with different winter conditions.

For instance, here in Halifax in Northern England we have a mixed winter climate. So, in many winters we do have snowy conditions and certainly icy roads. Therefore it would be prudent to fit at least all-weather tyres for winter driving. However, I do believe that because of the the hilly terrain. Then full blown winter tyres are the answer for complete safety.

Nokian winter tyres fit the safety standards criteria

Dont get me wrong ? most tyre manufacturers make a very good winter tyre product. Fortunately for us, we are able to source almost any make of tyre within the same day. Winter preparations for your vehicle are more than just a chore—they’re an absolute must in Halifax, where the weather can be merciless. In preparation for winter, here are some suggestions from locals on how to keep your ride safe and dependable when the snow starts to fall.

  1. Seasonal tyres:

Based on what we know about the area, the winters in Halifax may be rather snowy and slippery. Putting on winter tyres instead of your usual ones is an absolute must. Skidding and accidents are less likely to occur on roads coated in snow and ice, thanks to these specialised treads. Make sure to periodically check your tyres’ pressure because cold weather can affect it.

Part 2: Antifreeze and Coolant: Car Winter Preparation

Your engine might take a serious beating in Halifax’s frigid winters. Always use the recommended ratio of antifreeze to water when filling up your vehicle’s cooling system. Doing so will keep the engine coolant from freezing and harming it.

  1. Verify the Battery:

Your car’s battery may experience increased strain in colder conditions. Get your battery checked up before winter arrives to be sure it’s in good shape. You can avoid being left out in the cold if you replace a weak battery before it fails.

Kit for Surviving the Winter: Car Winter Preparation

A winter survival pack should be kept in your vehicle in case you become trapped in a snowdrift. Things to bring are a small shovel, non-perishable snacks, a blanket, and a torch. The weather in Halifax is notoriously unpredictable, so it’s wise to pack accordingly.

  1. Fluids and Oils:

Engine oil and other fluids can thicken in cold temperatures, reducing your car’s efficiency. For use in colder climates, you might want to think about reducing the oil’s viscosity. Also, to avoid freezing, use a winter-specific washer fluid recipe.

  1. Inspect the wipers and Lights:

Winter driving, with its shorter days, makes visibility all the more important. Check that your turn signals, taillights, and headlights are all functioning properly. Since they are subjected to heavy use in maintaining a clear windscreen, replace old wiper blades.

  1. Anti-Rust Formulation:

Winter road salting is common in Halifax due to the city’s maritime position. The undercarriage of your vehicle may rust more quickly if exposed to this salt. Protect your car from rust and corrosion by using an undercoat or rust prevention.
