KORBACH, Germany—Continental A.G.

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Continental tyres keep on moving forward

Significantly, this is just one of the expansion plans . Including, a Continental tyres boost for the giant tyre company of Continental. Consequently, the Continental Car Tyres company and all its subsidiaries have leaped ahead of most of its

Continental Seal tyres protect the tyre from nail penetrations like this one competitors in recent years due to some innovative new products such as the “Seal Tyres” that contain a protective layer of sealant made of polymers, that stop the tyre from deflating when penetrated by a screw or a nail.

Continental tyre Sport Contacts

The protective layer is inside the Seal tyres,  just underneath the tread area. Other products to give a Continental tyres boost include “runflat technology” and new tyres that are greener and lighter to save on emissions for new EV and electric vehicles, altogether an impressive portfolio of products.

Continental tyres boost their market share by continuously adding new tyre products to their range. One of their latest tyre products is a new winter tyre the Vanco 4 season 2 tyres.

Here in 2020, then Continental tyres are still steaming ahead as one of the worlds leading tyre manufacturers. Although we here at Pellon Tyres support Continental , we enjoy the privilege of selling General Tyres. Of course General, were bought out by Continental tyres for their expertise in the design and manufacture of the General 4×4 tyre range ! Including the world renowned “General Grabber”range of 4 x 4 tyres.

Of course, General also make a range of summer tyres and importantly, a great winter tyre range. With attention to their range of tyres been able to fit probably 99% of European cars.

Of course general tyres are also sold at a lower price range. Because of this the tyres are very popular here at Pellon Tyres in halifax.

Punctured Tyre-Lady Drove over 20 Miles on a flat TYRE ?

Punctured Tyre

Punctured Tyre
Complete side wall ripped off ?

Female Customer Drove over 20 mile on this Punctured Tyre ?

This is one of the strangest stories I have heard in the past two years. A lady customer called in to claim that she had a service done

Punctured Tyre
This Continental tyre although shredded to bits was driven on by a lady customer for twenty miles?wow

to her Audi estate about a month ago, and the car was now acting very strangely. She said that when the car was going round the bend she could feel it swaying slightly, but it was steering perfectly normal on the straight roads. We asked her how long the car had been doing this and she said that for a couple of days or about twenty miles. We went to put the Audi on the ramp, but noticed the car was sloping to one side ?.

When we checked ,she had a tyre that was completely ripped off on one of the side walls.

This Punctured Tyre had in fact been driving with the same characters as Continental Run Flat Tyres, for more than twenty miles. The lady customer had not suspected anything because the car had not swerved violently or even veered from side to side, as you might expect from a big car such as the Audi estate.

The Punctured Tyre is the one shown in this blog and the ripped off side-wall can be easily seen. Credit should also be given to the Continental Sports Contact that took the battering, although not a run-flat it did remarkably well.

So to follow up on this ! Have you noticed all the old tyre treads and pieces of rubber tyre treads ! That are present on the side of the roads and motorways. Especially car tyre treads.

BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres

BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres-Many drivers with older BMW Minis find the tyres Expensive?

BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres

BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres

BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres-Many owners of BMW Minis are are just coming to terms with run flat tyres. Here in Halifax, we pride ourselves on our excellent client base, from mini drivers who trust us to carry out servicing on their cars. Trust is essential when it comes to advice about your car.

BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres-Price is important when selecting the correct run flat tyres

A few years ago I could see the writing on the wall. Thus, regarding a popular car. BMW mini and the high cost of parts including BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres. Hence, when the cars were becoming second and third hand. This time has now arrived. Therefore, with drivers looking for Cheap Run Flat Tyres.

The original mini (British Leyland) were build, for the main masses of the population. Thus, to enable working class motorists to afford a good reliable little car. I myself have owned five minis (old type) in my time and loved them all. You could get the up-market minis. Such as the mini cooper. But you would expect to pay a higher price for such things as new tyres. The normal tyres for Mini Cars were 145×10 and they would cost the same price for years on end (except for inflation). You knew that if you went on to a mini cooper you would have to pay more, because the tyre size was 16570×10, Get what I am on about ?.

Run Flat Tyres

Then bringing us back to the present.hence, came the BMW mini. Naturally, a completely different animal. This car has all the modern gadgets on board. Hence, to help in the battle BMW Minis Run Flat Tyresagainst greenhouse gases. Therefore, is fitted with many things that were not dreamed of when the old minis were around.

Cars now have to be made much lighter and one of the things they started doing was to mess about with spare wheels, no spare tyre in the boot. This was a duel effect, in my opinion, it did lessen the weight of the car but it also cut the price of the by the price of the tyre and wheel, times this by millions and it comes to a major saving. Most BMW minis started to come out on what we now know as run flat tyres. This simply means that if you have a puncture the tyres will remain strong enough to get you to safety, providing you only drive at 50 mph.

Run Flat Safety Tyres

In my opinion, the theory of this idea is a good safety feature, the strength of the tyre does not allow the car to move, thus keeping the car in a straight line and avoiding other traffic. The problem occurs when the driver turns up at the local tyre centre.
most run-flat tyres will not repair once they have had a puncture

The people that buy second and third hand BMW minis are usually young people, and mostly females and when they realise the cost of new BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres they freak out, some of the sizes now cost £180 each, that’s buying them online at cheap tyre prices.

Cheap BMW Minis Run Flat Tyres may be bought in budget brands but do not go for part worn  run flat tyres as it is more important to know where they have been and used for (the history) than normal tyres.

Popular Run Flat Tyres

Many new models are now equipped with inflator and sealant kits or run flat tires which are designed to go at slower speeds for 50 miles or more after a tire has been punctured.

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Run Flat tyres are an interesting subject.

Of course, the problem was that that cars were getting bigger and faster. Consequently, at the same time the car makers were being pressured. By governments to make their cars more fuel efficient and therefore greener.

Car makers were forced to comply with certain regulations ! This meant shedding weight and creating engines. Subsequently, that were controlled by computers . Therefore to really hammer down the emissions. Caused by burning fossil fuels (gasoline or petrol in the

How run flat tyres work

UK). Subsequently, the car companies looked at all sorts of ways. So, to reduce the overall weight of vehicles including tyres. Importantly, even the tyre companies looked for ways of making tyres lighter in weight. Importantly, and indeed they succeeded.

BMW come up with the Mini Run Flat Tyres

Positively, tyre manufacturers came up with the run-flat tyre ! .Of course, this would mean that cars would no longer have a spare wheel and tyre. Thus reducing the overall weight of the vehicle and reducing emissions. Importantly, if a tyre on a car had a sudden drop in pressure (puncture). Importantly, then the car could have the capabilities to drive on.

Albeit at a slower speed (50 mph) until the tyre was eventually changed. Safety wise, the positives are that the car would not deviate. Therefore, carrying on driving in the normal way. Therefore not causing an accident. So, much safer than a standard radial tyre.   Also you would not have to get out of the car ? Say on a rainy night having to change the wheel when you had a puncture.

Cost was an early problem ?

Early drawbacks are the cost of replacing these tyres is much higher than a standard tyre. A new Run Flat Tyres is required after each incident. Puncture repairs in these tyres are not recommended ?

Incidentally, on long journeys should you have the need to want a new tyre ! Then you only have fifty miles to have the Run Flat Tyres fixed.

In the States the gap between some towns and cities can be hundreds of miles. So you pays your money and takes your choice ?

Since I wrote this article ? Then the run flat tyres have been well accepted by most motorists. Older drivers who prefer a genuine spare wheel can now buy a new tyre and wheel unit for the spare wheel.

Eric Roberts.

Hi I would like to introduce myself. Working in the Garage and tyre and Battery business now for 40 years. So. Working for a couple of national tyre companies before starting my first business. Of course, I now own a company here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre. Blogging about anything to do with cars and their related products. Naturally, that will help my business. Self Sealing Tyre-Kumho Tyres Introduce their New “Self Sealing Tyre”

Self Sealing Tyre

This is not a new Self Sealing Tyre from Kumho tyres?

This type of thing is not a new idea. Continental tyres recently brought out their own version of the self-sealing tyre. That they call the “Conti-Seal”. Pirelli tyres also do a similar thing that they call the “Seal-Inside”. (It is what it says on the tin) as they say.Self Sealing Tyre

This type of self-sealing tyre development is an excellent idea. Especially, for road safety and they all work on the same principal. Thus, the inside of the tread area is coated with “thick tacky sealant layer”. In the case of continental the sealant looks like thick black tar. So, when an object such as a screw or nail penetrates the tyre tread area. Then the hole is blocked by this substance. Consequently, only loses a small amount of tyre pressure. Enabling the driver to carry on their journey. Sometimes even not  knowing about the object stuck into their tyre.

In my opinion I think that this is a good idea. A step forward in the fight to better our road safety standard. Sometimes if a normal tyre is penetrated there will be a sudden loss of air in the tyres. Instantly deflating the tyre. Hence, causing the car to swerve and deviate off course. So, in the worse scenario could be causing a bad accident.

At the moment, Kumho is only using the self-sealing tyres in their own country. South Korea. But I guess it will not be long before the tyres are distributed across the Globe. So, to compete with Continental and Pirelli. I would have thought that the extra weight of the sealant could have jeopardised the handling of the cars. But apparently they handle just as good as a normal tyre.

Self Sealing Tyre

A Kumho spokesman said, “While the weight of a Self Sealing Tyre is about 10 percent higher than a normal tire, ride quality, braking performance, handling performance and noise levels are equivalent to normal tyres” so that answers my question?

I myself prefer this self-seal method to the “Continental Self Sealing Tyre”. It would also be of great advantage on caravans and trailers. But at the moment, I do not think that there are tyre sizes to fit this type of vehicle. I also feel that these new self- seal tyres should be used on the more new vehicle. Volkswagen was the first to use them. Securing an exclusive one-year deal with Continental Tyres UK Ltd for an exclusive use of the product, but this has now finished its time limit and the Self Sealing Tyre will probably available to other car manufacturers.

Self Sealing Tyre

Kumho’s self-seal tyre

Over the years the puncture problem has improved, I am old enough to remember when we fitted a tube into almost every puncture, but traffic was much lighter and we didn’t have many motorways. We still though repair many punctures a week and it makes me cringe at the way that car makers are trying their utmost to get away with having to fit spare wheels to cars.

Self Sealing Tyre-We still get tyres presented to us that have sidewall damage,

But luckily for the driver, the car has had a spare wheel. I think that the small space saver wheels are a better compromise that no spare wheel at all because as I have said earlier, there are many cars that run over a sharp object and damage the sidewall and without a spare the driver is going to be stuck. A Continental Car Tyres Self Sealing Tyre would certainly get you home and a space saver would get you home but not a Self Sealing Tyre, the material would not plug a hole in the sidewall and the driver would be stranded.

My wife bought a Nissan Juke that did not have a spare so the first thing I did was to buy a spare alloy wheel and fit a tyre to match the others and we took it with us when we went on a long or important journey, just in case. See all about the new tyre in Kumho Tyre Reviews.
