As the batteries become fully charged and are no longer able to accept any further electrical energy. Consequently, the battery voltage will rise. Of course, when the voltage reaches the regulation level (varies with battery type see below) So, starts to dump power the controller’s lights are a solid red. Naturally, this energy is dissipated as heat into the surrounding environment. Significantly, more or less power is diverted to the dump load. According to how much is being supplied to the battery from the turbine.

038 Car Batteries- Now fitted out with a new label style, This helps with warranty dates

Lucas 038 Car Batteries from Lucas

So, hear in the UK, then “lucas” has always been a well known name in the field of car electrics. Including the battery range! Unfortunately the original company split up. Subsequently, the different sections were sold off!  Or indeed the brand names were sold off. This was the same with the Battery section of the company. So, the Lucas battery franchise was originally bought by Energy batteries. Registered in the Corby area. Unfortunately Energy went into the hands of the receivers. The Lucas franchise was then bought by Manbat in 2009. Thus trading its own battery products under the acquired name of Lucas. Although Lucas do not make their own Car Batteries! Manbat source batteries of excellent quality for their premium Car Batteries range and the Classic range of batteries. We  at Batteriesontheweb are the Yorkshire dealers for these excellent products.

Lucas batteries

“Now, in its most noticeable move to date, Manbat has made fundamental changes to the existing packaging. Core to the re-branding objective was to make the Lucas name and green colour scheme far more prominent than on the previous design, which only carried a small Lucas logo with a hint of green. The new design however, brings the green that the brand has been historically associated with and the Lucas name to the fore through an attractive design that stands out from the competition and emphasis the brands

The 038 Car Batteries also fits other battery applications. The 038 Car Batteries are used mainly on classic cars. The early mini’s and Austin Alegro cars were all fitted with the 038 Car Batteries. The battery also fitted cars made by Vauxhall cars. This includes the best selling Viva range in the 1960’s and some of the Triumph groups cars. This included the Triumph Spitfires and saloon cars such as the herald and the Vitesse.

Many battery companies change labels every so often. It is a way of telling when a battery was made. This helps them with warranty claims. Many claims are rejected because they can tell how old the label is.

Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries- Absorbed Glass Mat batteries AGM are now a very popular battery

Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries

Many people think that GEL and Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries are the same

Many people buying new golf batteries or mobility batteries. Therefore, believe that the two types of battery are the same. They are very similar.Hence, they are a deep cycle with a low discharge. Because they do not spill they are classed as sealed. Therefore, may be mounted in any position. For this reason, are safe to use in a confined area. Naturally, and may be carried safely.

Absorbed Glass Mat batteries. Are filled with a type of fibreglass material. As expected, that is fitted inside the battery and then soaked with the electrolyte between the batteries plates. Therefore, this makes the battery leak proof. In other words, if the battery casing is broken. Accordingly, then no acid will leak out. This type of battery is also the most popular here in

the UK (in my opinion this is due to the price difference) these are usually much cheaper batteries, in particular with the golfing fraternity.

Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries

GEL batteries have filled a type of silica gel mixed with the electrolyte making a thick jelly that allows the electrons to flow through the plates. Once again as in the other kind, they do not leak when the casing is broken.

One of the most common reasons. Thus, for people using the Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries. Is it can give out a high burst of amps if required to do so. Of course, they can also be charged with a standard battery charger. So, and an alternator if necessary. Also, they have a longer life expectancy. Especially, if these batteries are not fully discharged between discharges. In my opinion, this is a mistake that people make, they fully discharge their batteries too often causing premature failure, I think that people should keep a backup battery as a spare so as to not allow their batteries to become too discharged.

GEL batteries as stated before cost more than Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries

But offer better-working conditions. Especially, in hotter climates. Although, this does not affect us here in the UK. The big problem with gel batteries is that they must be charged correctly. Hence, or failure will follow. If you have a GEL charger then stick to a GEL battery. For this reason, they are designed especially for these types of battery. GEL  should not be charged with an alternator. Unless appropriate adjustments are made. Another battery that is starting to appear in the marketplace. Naturally, is the Lithium-Ion battery. So, watch out for this one.
To conclude. We think that Absorbed Glass Mat. Now has the upper hand and unless you only have an own charger on your golf buggy or mobility scooter you would be better off buying AGM.

electric car charging

Electric Cars More dangerous-China says that the EV-Battery driven cars may be more “Harmful to your Health”.

Electric Cars More dangerous; Power stations not the battery powered cars

Electric Cars More dangerous; A pollution study in China has come to the conclusion. That battery drove cars to cause more pollution than conventionally fueled vehicles. Because the electricity used to charge the cars is so-called “Dirty” fuel. Because the power stations rely on fossil fuels such as coal and gas, to power them.

The study was carried out in no less than 34 cities through out China.

People who are conducting this research are led by Professor Cherry a leading scientist in this field. So, who was helped by Chinese under graduates. He compared the particulate matters that cause the pollution. Which is similar to the test carried out on our cars in the UK on an “MOT TEST” on electric battery drove cars to that in petrol driven vehicles. He conducted the tests in China.  Because, believe it or not, they love electric battery driven cars and cycles and have probably the biggest percentage of battery-powered vehicles in the World. In fact, Chinese battery used cars outnumber regular fueled 12 Volt Battery vehicles by about 2 to 1.

The Police operate many of these cars, post, and local government. It has always been my opinion that Governments have gone about the green effect problem the wrong way. They should have sorted the power stations problem out, long ago. Man of the power plants in the world is fueled, from fuels such as coal and gas. But instead, the power operators chose to hammer the poor motorists. This was done with the costs and by the look of this report to no avail. We are still polluting the Planet and its citizens with countries like China burning 85% of electricity from coal.

To conclude it is a fact that regular petrol which has driven vehicles with modern emission methods are cleaner than electric battery operated cars, and that  Electric Cars More dangerous

What’s your opinion??

To read more of this fascinating story, please click the link bellow.

“They found that the electricity generated to power electric cars caused more particulate matter Car Pollution  than that caused by an equivalent number of petrol driven vehicles. There was no Advantages of Electric Cars.

Particulate matter comes from the combustion of fossil fuels and includes acids, organic chemicals, metals, and soil or dust particles.

Professor Cherry said: ‘An implicit assumption has been that air quality and health impacts are lower for electric cars than for conventional vehicles”…

maintenance free batteries

Maintenance Free batteries-are now becoming the normal fitment on most cars and trucks

This is a short article about maintenance free batteries

The phrase maintenance free batteries is only partly correct.  What are Maintenance Free Battery vs Conventional  Cheap Car batteries , use up some of the water in their diluted mixture of sulphuric acid electrolyte during there every day cycle of charging and discharging. The electrolyte process turns into a gas mixture of oxygen and hydrogen and escapes from the battery. WE then add water to keep the battery topped up.

Low Maintenance batteries known as MF batteries use a different type of lead alloy. They use calcium alloy of lead and not a lead antimony alloy. This reduces the gassing therefore stops the need to keep topping up your battery. Indeed means that you have no need to top up your battery during the normal life of your  Battery.
The only problem can occur in exceptionally high temperatures where the Maintenance free batteries may boil but the newer types of MF battery now have pressure relief valves that come into operation when the pressure may get too high. For further reading…http://uk.ask.com/question/what-is-a-maintenance-free-battery

Altogether these batteries are becoming the normal standard for modern vehicle standards and are worth buying instead of cheap batteries.

Car batteries remained much the same, the only thing that changed was the different terminals and physical sizes of the batteries, battery plates, became a new mix of alloys and lead alloys and companies the likes of Lucas batteries became the first to introduce practically sealed batteries that were maintenance free, there were no screw tops on the battery for the driver to check the acid level.

Also there was the evolution of the cars. Many cars were now coming out on more sophisticated electrical systems. Which required car batteries with more power. We found that a difference in the old type battery and the new type of battery was that the new types of battery did not give you much time after failure, one morning the battery light would come on in your car and you would need a new battery, there and then; you do not have the time any more. It is very important to remember, that the Maintenance free batteries must be stood up in the upright position. The battery caps do not unscrew and so the battery is classed as sealed. But it is important to remember that the battery is not leak proof.

2020 AGM car battery update

At the present time then the AGM car battery has become very important! Because, of the popularity of the “Stop-Start” cars that are now on the market. So, the main idea of these cars is to save fuel consumption therefore reducing green gas emission’s. Given these points, a new type of stronger battery was needed to support the constant starting and stopping of the cars engine. Especially, when driving in the cities and towns. Of course where many stops would take place at road junctions, traffic lights and many other situations.

Importantly, the AGM battery was chosen! Because of the deep cycle capability of this type of battery.

Power Storage Tesla battery could take your home off the grid with – Inhabitat (blog)

Power Storage

Ever wish you could ditch your electric bill? Tesla is working on a house battery that could help you break up with your expensive utility company, essentially turning any home into an off-grid abode.

Is it legal to run off grid in the USA! I might  sound pessimistic, but what if you are having problems with your battery power storage ?

Battery Power storage will be part of the big energy mix in the future!

This whole scenario of battery Power Storage and off grid electricity! So, is now going above my head? Tesla cars are now claiming that the Lithium-Ion battery unit. Of course, that drives their cars.  Could be used to store solar energy for the average family home for a good three and a  half days. (or should it be nights).

You see I can’t get my head around this fact! Significantly

Regarding the power that we would need to power the average home. Would be cheaper than the power supplied the grid. The total cost of solar panels or wind turbines combined with a large enough battery storage pack, that would adequately cope with all the power that was needed, without totally flattening the batteries and look after itself when the owners were away would surely outweigh the cost of mains electricity You would also need a backup diesel generator, to use as a back- up for your solar system should

I know that there are whole island populations that are now using a solar power electricity system that has a huge battery power storage system that fits into a 20 foot container. The system was set up by Saft a French battery company. Consequently, the island is in the Caribbean group of islands. So can rely on a constant supply of sunshine. But the experts say that these systems can work across most of the world, using the sun that is available to them.

I have seen something similar here in the UK

I am not sure if there are many other battery projects on the go. But the way I see it as a layman, is that all the experts from all the countries are just going there one way, when what is needed is the getting together of heads and experimenting on housing developments that are nothing like the ones today. These developments would be away from the national grid and would be totally environmentally friendly using all the latest materials for insulation, (I see that here in the UK we are starting to revert back to straw as an insulation material).

Importantly, with the homes facing the right way (south) and totally insulated. This in my opinion is going the right way. However, to go further, each development should have its own battery Power Storage system. Which connects all the homes together. The initial electricity will be powered by solar panels and if possible a wind turbine.

In my opinion the problem lies with the fact that everything is based on converting new systems from old. But I do not think this will work. You cannot just disconnect yourself from the grid! Because of many other issues. Including where the old electric cables run. Of course, what if you wanted to sell the house. Because, it will be mixing lots of old problems with new problems. I have solar panels fitted to my roof and think that they look fine. However, I know some people who hate the site of them! I won’t even go into wind-turbines.

I am just scratching the surface here.

We need some good joined up thinking and we need to build proper working experimental housing developments using the latest technology and test it out over a number of years. When I hear Tesla talking about their car battery storing power for home owners it makes me cringe, it would probably capable of this but we should be talking collectively and build whole communities, using the latest methods and a collective battery storage system and not load of individuals using all sorts of mis-match battery storage systems that you can find instruction on how to do, on YouTube.

Most of our towns and cities will always be run off the national grids, for well into the future; our infrastructures are too old to cope with major changes.

There is no doubt in my mind that battery power will be the future, wherever it comes from, but we should get our heads together and build proper sustainable environmentally friendly housing using only the power of the elements, this would be the way forward and if you read this article and know of such experiments taking place, please let me know.

Please note these are the words and opinion of the author (Eric Roberts) only. Neither the author nor the website can be held responsible for any errors or omissions. You should seek professional assistance if in doubt about your choice of battery. The article may contain a link to Batteriesontheweb where you can buy battery products online.

car batteries

Battery Storage systems could significantly reduce the power of the National Grids.

Battery Storage systems

Battery storage systems-(was not an option)

Because of the way that we built our national power plants. Interestingly, in some cases over a hundred years ago. Importantly, will have to change in the future! Of course, to meet our electrical needs. So for the production of solar energy and its distribution. Through our home solar panels collections and solar collection farms. Including the wind turbine installations.

So the original “national grid” plants were originally owned by the government. But in recent times were privatized here in the UK by the Conservative government. Of course, led by “Margret Thatcher“. These massive coal and gas powered installations distributed power all over the “British Isles“. Subsequently, many of the power stations were located in coal mining areas of Yorkshire. Importantly, where the coal was transported locally. Resulting in the electricity being sent across the country. Carried on massive power line systems. Then diverted into smaller sub-stations. So, then before distributed to homes and businesses. Of course, usually in an underground power network.

Things are about to change

In recent times we have seen massive investment into the solar energy collecting market. Including, the introduction of new technologies.  Such as wind turbines and solar panel farms that turn the sun and the winds energy into producing electricity. Most people will now have seen these giant turbines across the countryside of most countries. Technological advances including battery storage systems will soon mean that things may have to change in the near future. Importantly, for these nationalized electric companies. Increasingly, as the end consumers start to install solar systems to their homes. Including many businesses across the world.

The price of fitting a solar system to your roof has come down dramatically. mainly because things have become mass produced and affordable. Helping people reduce their electric bills. The only other problem has been that the power produced could not be stored! Until recent years when battery storage systems have become widely available. So, becoming more easily installed using a few simple instructions.

Advantage to isolated communities

This has become of great benefit to cut off people who live in the country. Or in larger countries the “wilderness” . Of course, who are now able to make the production of electricity.  Storing it for the night use when the sun goes down. This can also lower the cost of their energy . Consequently, which has gradually become one of the most expensive household items in recent years.

Interestingly, I have electricity collecting panels on my roof. Selling the electricity back to my provider. Thus reducing my electric bills by half. Here in the UK we are limited to the number of solar panels to one roof. For this reason I don’t think that we are allowed to go self-sufficient. Of course, by producing all our own electricity. However, some countries are different. Such as the USA, where consumers can go their own way.

In many people’s opinions the day is not too far away when our roof panels will generate electricity which will be stored in a battery storage system. The householder will own an electric car and along with powering the rest of the house, the battery bank will also charge your car battery at night time, totally self-sufficient in electric power.

As I have said this is a perfect scenario for the perfect little houses in a perfect little village, but what about the rest of the population who live in multiple units and don’t even have their own roofs. Could we be looking at communal units of solar panels and storing the electricity in a battery bank, or is that a dream?

Island communities go solar sufficient

Perhaps not, because I have heard of some island communities, who have become self-sufficient by using this method. The batteries are packed into a 20 ft cargo container and the Battery Storage systems will store electricity to be used at night. This also eliminated power failures due storms and broken cables causing outages. The sun reliant system was fitted using up-to-date technology and now works perfectly leaving the island self-sufficient, by using the suns energy and storing it in batteries.

My interest in all this is that I sell solar storage batteries. Subsequently, I am very interested in the whole sun collecting  project. I cannot see the end in the national grid model! But alterations are going to have to be made in future. So, to accommodate the public’s wishes to produce their own electric power on their own premises. Neither do we know what new future technologies will be available. Especially, for collecting the suns power. Significant ideas are coming along all the time.

There is one thing for sure that governments are going to have to face. Giving this greenhouse gas  problem much thought in the future years ahead. Of how we use the power of our sun in years to come.

Battery Maintenance Tips to Survive the winter (Guest Post)

Battery Maintenance Tips to Survive the winter (Guest Post)

Battery Maintenance Tips to Survive the winter (Guest Post)

My name is James, and I am a spokesperson for Quality Source, a leading UK retailer of lithium-ion batteries for motorhomes. Unexpected battery malfunctions during the winter months can be a real nightmare.

That’s why we have used our expertise to create an article about battery maintenance that I know your readers will enjoy. We will talk in detail about battery maintenance tips that will help you protect your car’s battery from the harsh cold.

This article could not be timed much better, as energy prices soar. So, it looks like this year’s winter will be especially cold for a few households. Some families almost pay triple to heat their homes. The price cap spiked in April 2022 by 54% and is set to increase to 80% in October 2022, according to the UK House of Commons.

Furthermore, the UK is expected to experience scheduled blackouts. It may become necessary for some people in the UK to effectively manage their use and charge their batteries just to keep the lights on.

6 Tips for my car battery to survive the winter cold

  1. Keep your battery clean: Clean terminals, cables, and clamps help maintain a good connection and ensure that power is flowing properly.
  2. Keep it charged: A fully charged battery is less likely to freeze in cold temperatures.
  3. Insulate the battery: A battery blanket or insulating material can help keep the battery warm in cold temperatures.
  4. Park in a heated garage: If possible, park your car in a heated garage to protect the battery from the cold.
  5. Avoid short trips: Short trips put extra strain on the battery, so try to avoid them during the winter months.
  6. Keep an eye on the battery’s age: An older battery may not be able to hold a charge as well in cold temperatures, so consider replacing it if it’s getting old.

It’s also important to mention that if battery is near it’s end of its life, it’s more likely to fail even with all the steps above, so a good practice is to have your battery check by mechanic to be sure it’s still on good shape before extreme temperatures come.

Gas suppliers are seeing a shortage in the supply of fuel.

which will lead to scheduled blackouts across the UK. Accordingly, these blackouts will be timed for around 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. During this period, households across the UK will have no electricity. Smart ways to deal with these high bills and power outages are to manage your energy well and use it well.

Our cars are essential to our everyday lives, which is why we need to maintain, replace, and repair their batteries during the winter. At the moment, the UK is experiencing a battery shortage. With essential raw battery-making materials in short demand like lithium and cobalt. That’s why we need to stretch the longevity of our batteries as much as possible.

In light of this distressing news, it is important to save and make the most of what energy we have. That’s why researchers at Quality Source, a lithium battery specialist and one of the leading suppliers of high-quality batteries in the UK, are so concerned.

Importantly, you have decided to compile maintenance tips and advice on ways your readers can ensure their batteries remain strong during the winter.

A great afterthought to all this bad news about power cuts Of course, motorhome owners can move out of the house and watch TV, use their computers, or perhaps just play cards! Because all they have to do is keep their batteries charged during the day for use at night! Including the longer lasting “Lithium Motorhome Batteries now becoming more popular.

Of course, these blackouts (if they occur) will be music to the ears of the wise people who invested in solar panels and battery solar systems.

Replacement car battery as cost-of-living rises

Replacement car battery

Replacement car battery

In my humble opinion then most of this article is now out of date. Especially when it comes to modern cars and their batteries. Many of the new model are now start stop cars. Requiring AGM or EFB batteries. These batteries are maintenance free and cannot be examined through the screw tops that were fitted to old model vehicles.

Back in the old days this was an important job. To check the fluid levels in the battery top cells. Access was through a plastic top that you had to screw out. The acid level could then be checked and topped up accordingly. In fact I am sure that many new drivers of the past 5 years wont know that this type of battery exists.

Another myth in the article is the need to charge your battery if the car is not regularly used. I admit that it could shorten the life of the battery but drivers of today do not have the time to take their battery off for charging whether it be by a smart charger or any other type of charger.

Peoples time is valuable in todays super fast world. Car batteries are now hidden away in a plethora of plastic casings and wires. it can take a trained technician nearly an hour to change a battery these days, the public have no chance.

Battery replacement can be stressful at the best of times, however, as the cost of living continues to rise, never has the potential cost of a battery failure loomed so large. It’s widely known that the

Solar Energy Batteries- May Vie With U.S. Oil Boom as Energy Changer

Solar Energy Batteries

The rapid development of rooftop solar and

Solar Energy Batteries storage technology

could be as trans formative to the economy and modern life as the U.S. oil and gas boom, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said. (Batteries May Vie With U.S.

Eric Roberts’ insight: Solar batteries

The USA Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz has come out with a statement that I have been talking about for a couple of years now. In this article, he says that the USA could start to be getting independent of the national energy providers if the growth in solar Renewable Energy and other renewable resources can keep growing at the present rate.

In my opinion, the public in America. Of course, and other continents such as here in the UK. Have really grasped the nettle as far as going it alone with solar energy. The solar panels in this picture are situated in a small town in West Yorkshire UK.

Starting producing energy from the Sun as early as February. The electricity that is produced by these solar panels is sent straight to the electricity grid. Through a reverse meter and the electric company pays the house owner for the electricity that is provided.

In America there is a growing trend to store the electricity. Hence, that is collected from the panels. Into banks of Solar Energy Batteries. This is also useful in rural and more isolated areas. Where the batteries can store the electricity. As a result, for use at night by the house owners.

The most effective type of Solar Energy Batteries to use is AGM batteries.

These AGM batteries will cost more in the first instance. But will give better service due to the ability to have much greater charge and discharge cycles. Than say a normal lead-acid Car Batteries.

There are many DIY videos available. Showing, householders how to set up a Solar Energy Batteries system. One of them is Trojan AGM Battery. Subsequently, these batteries are very suited for the use with solar energy. So, anyone thinking of doing this should look at the Trojan AGM product.

Like the USA energy secretary Ernest Moriz. I too wonder how long off are we before we are producing more electricity. Say than the national providers and what happens then?.

Leisure Batteries Storage time again as Winter approaches?

Leisure Batteries Storage

It is storing your Leisure Batteries Storage time

The extremely mild weather here in the UK. Has brought out all the spring flowers,(earlier than normal). It is also bringing out the caravan and motorhome users, into thinking about their first 2014 trips out. Hence, judging by the amount of leisure batteries that we are selling at the moment.

Normally we see a surge of sales and inquiries just a few weeks before Easter. But this year the sales are coming early. One of the most popular batteries that we sell. Thus,to the caravan and campervan (RV) fraternity is the XV31 110 amp leisure battery . This battery is made by a battery manufacturer in South Korea. This also covers smaller battery sizes, including XV 23, XV 24, and XV 27 and, of course, the XV31. This battery along with the LV26, and along with the smaller LV 22 are made by Johnson Controls . Of course one of the World’s leading battery developer and battery manufacturer.

This year is a particularly good time to buy this Leisure Batteries product. Because due to the mild winter.Subsequently, the sales of car batteries have dropped off. Meaning the leading battery companies are well down on sales of car batteries. So,are looking forward to the next battery season. Which includes the sale of leisure batteries, motorcycle batteries, mobility scooter batteries, golf cart batteries. Including, other seasonal things such as lawn mower batteries. Of course, the guys who are lucky enough to own a classic car. Classic car batteries are huge sellers.

Leisure Batteries Storage

What normally happens is that the owners of these types of battery-driven machines equipment will get them out as soon as the weather improves and start getting warmer, which is normally around April time here in the UK. But this year we are about three weeks to a month in front, due to the mild weather. In fact, I have recently seen a butterfly and many bees flying about and also the grass on my lawn needs cutting for the first time after the winter.

People all over will be getting out their golf and gardening equipment only to find that their battery is flat and will not work. Most of the time the battery will recover when it is charged, but people are reluctant to charge their battery throughout the winter months. Up to recent times, the battery chargers were of the old fashioned types that you put onto your battery

and then took off when the battery was fully charged but these days you can buy what they call “intelligent battery chargers”. These chargers are made by well-known companies such as Ring Electrical and “Numax”, and are well worth the investment. What you have to do is find out the correct amps that you require for your size of the battery, remove the Leisure Batteries from the caravan or lawn mower, whatever it is on, give the Leisure Batteries a clean and if it is not a sealed battery, check the levels.

You can then connect the leisure battery to the smart charger

, (preferably in a frost free place) and leave it to charge all the winter long. The charger will then keep your leisure battery charge topped up to the correct levels and automatically switch on and off when charging is required. This way you will end up with a nice clean fully charged the battery when the time comes to use it.
