Of course, this new Hydrogen Cell car has already been driven. Especially, by a few privileged motor journalists. So, the new Hydrogen Cell car has been given the thumbs up. Especially, for the way that the vehicle handles. Mainly due to the huge torque of the cars electric motors.

Other  manufacturers are complaining. So, that the use of this gas is not as green as the battery powered cars. Mainly because the gas used in these cars is produced from natural gas. But you could argue that the electricity used to charge the battery cars is not green really .Because the electricity that recharges the hybrids batteries comes from dirty power stations using fossil fuels to make the electricity.

The Toyota Mirai is an electric-drive, mid-size four-door sedan powered by hydrogen, with a range of up to 300 miles, refuel time of about f…

This is just another part of the big mix of fuels that will power the cars of the near future.

Hydrogen cells are also the favourite of some car manufacturers. Including Toyota now with the Toyota Mirai and BMW. In my opinion, Hydrogen will be available at many filling stations in the future.

Toyota Mirai is one of the leaders in Hydrogen cell fueled cars

It has come to my attention that there are at least three leading car manufacturers that are heading down the hydrogen fuel road with their cars. I am a keen follower of market trends and the direction that the green way forward is heading, and that includes the battle that is rising between EV vehicles, battery Tec technology, the Hydrogen cell technology.

Apart from Toyota with the Toyota Mirai  the other two players are Hyundai and Honda. Other car makers have also been involved with Hydrogen including the American giant GM. Apparently GM has been running a test fleet of them for a few years now, but it is the Far Eastern country’s car makers that are ahead of the field.

There are enemies of hydrogen as well as battery driven cars

But when the largest car company in the world looks interested in something, then it is time to sit up and take note. Toyota is a very experienced and successful manufacturer of cars and has made over 5,600 fuel cell-related patents available. Toyota has started off the motion for hydrogen-powered cars to make it to market at a faster pace.

The inclusion of the auto industry is of particular import to Japan.

Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are key contributors to Japan’s economy, and the industry together accounts for 10% of the national workforce and 20% of exports. To me it is a good thing that Japan is thinking about supporting the home industry, and developing these new products will bring stability to the home workforce.

It does have to make these technologies available to us all eventually to comply with European and American laws, but I think that the Japanese are thinking about this when they free off the patents for the new technology cars.

The scrap between battery power and hydrogen is on.

Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. So, for instance, electric cars only require plug-in stations. Of course, to be re-charged. Significantly, the hydrogen cars will require a network of filling station locations. However, this will mean that they could just be added to the existing gas stations all over the world.

Both cars can claim to have zero emissions.

But the lithium-ion cars are re-charged by “dirty” coal-fired power stations. So are not as green as people think. Especially in countries like China! So, the hydrogen car only emits water, so until the power supplies are greener, the hydrogen car wins there.

At the time of writing this post. Both cars are getting about the same mileage! Subsequently, both types of cars are still very expensive to buy. Hydrogen cars can be re-fueled the same as a gas engine. While the battery car has to be charged up over a long period. Although scientists are working on a faster-charged battery all the time,.

Only time will tell which idea brings the most success, but you have to admit that it is interesting times that us auto guys live in.

Electric Battery Cars or Hydrogen fueled Cars?

Electric Battery Cars

Electric Battery Cars or Hydrogen fueled Cars?

It is for certain that one of these days we will run out of oil. Although we have now discovered new oil reserves by means of “fracking” we will still run out of oil one of these days. This together with the need to clean up our planet has lead us to try and discover new technologies to drive our transport system forward using less polluting fuels and renewable energies.

How the hydrogen cell car works

One of the biggest steps has been towards the development of battery power to drive our Electric Battery Cars. This development took on rapid pace in the first instance, but in my opinion has now slowed down as we try to refine the technology to give us more distance on one charge of the Electric Battery Cars. The technology here has been the use of Lithium-Ion batteries. Some car makers such as Nissan have developed the Hybrid Electric Battery Cars, a car that is battery driven with a backup petrol engine that kicks in when the car reaches a certain speed for out of town driving.

Other car producers have opted for the full blown Electric Battery Cars, which relies totally on a battery for its power. These cars have the problem of traveling any distance, but are good for around town usage. In my opinion the battery solution is not the answer to the bigger problem of distance before the battery needs re-charging. Charging stations are cropping up all over the place and the electric car will have a part to play in the big picture but in my opinion it is looking like a short term fix and in any case these cars are charged up using “dirty fuel” that we use to fuel our power stations, it is just applying a “sticking plaster” on a gaping wound.

Battery cars for short journeys, and hydrogen for the long journey?

Many different car companies have been looking at the hydrogen technology. Hence, many governments have been investing large amounts of money into the development of the hydrogen fueled engine. Car companies such as BMW, Toyota Cars and Mazda have come up with new and improved methods. Of course, to meet the growing demand for an alternative fuel. To the one of the biggest steps has been towards the development of battery power. Driving our Electric Battery Cars. This development took on rapid pace. Driving cars so that larger distances can be covered. Governments across the World are at this very moment working together. Trying, to produce a stable hydrogen product. Thus, that can be used in regular filling stations. Indeed these filling stations are beginning to pop up. As these car companies have become closer to producing their hydrogen fuel celled vehicles.

General motors and Honda are also interested in this fuel.

Importantly, and are developing engines accordingly. As the only by-product is water, then the hydrogen fuel cells produce no pollution. On top of that, fuel cells are safe, more reliable (as they do not have many moving parts). Using, the most abundant of elements in the universe as a power source (hydrogen).

The governments need to tie up with the major car manufactures in the world. Of course, to accelerate the use of hydrogen and similar energy efficient cars. Instead of lining up at the gas filling stations. So, the hydrogen car owners can buy tanks of liquid or gaseous hydrogen. Though the general trend for fuel efficient cars. Hence with alternative and better fuel designs will keep on increasing. Various political, consumer, legal, environmental and technological factors will decide the extend of deployment.

Toyota is expected to fund a new network of hydrogen filling stations in the California area of America

Hence, by the way of a loan to a company called First Element Fuel Inc and in conjunction with the state of California and eventually rolling the stations out into a wider area. Toyota estimates that 68 refueling stations will be required to satisfy the needs of California’s 10,000 fuel cell customers. By the end of 2016, Lentz hopes to have 50 stations operating across the state. Toyota estimates that 68 refueling stations will be required to satisfy the needs of California’s 10,000 fuel cell customers. By the end of 2016, Lentz hopes to have 50 stations operating across the state.

Believe it or not Toyota started working on the fuel cell car as long ago as 1992. That is 25 years of experience in this technology, with the first production model to be available by 2015. The ironic part of my opening question is that the hydrogen fuel cell is really a battery?

“FCVs are powered by fuel cells, which generate electricity from hydrogen, which is not only environmentally friendly and highly energy-efficient, but can also be produced using a variety of readily available raw materials. Thanks to these characteristics, fuel cell vehicles are ideal for achieving sustainable mobility. Therefore, Toyota is striving to make this vehicle technology widely available as soon as possible.”…More reading…

These new cars will be expected to drive twice the distance on a full tank of fuel

Thus, with the fuel costing about the same as gasoline (petrol). In my opinion this will be at the forefront of the leading car technology, for cars that will travel mid and long distances.

Leaving the One of the biggest steps has been towards the development of battery power to drive our Electric Battery Cars. This development took on rapid pace, to cover urban and town driving. There will also be a mix of other fuels such a bio-fuels in the big mix and things that are not yet invented.

Toyota to launch hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles in US next year (domain-B) Hydrogen-powered electric cars are moving in at a brisk pace as fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) that use hydrogen as fuel for their batteries will be in use in Northern America by 2015…

A massive breakthrough in Australia as a new diesel hydrogen fuel mix engine is engineered !

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Toyota The new hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be able to get their electricity from an electrochemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen, which will generate a current that could be available earlier than thought.

The first British hydrogen filling station. Hence, for public to use ! Has now been opened in Swindon, Wiltshire. Consequently, it is located at the giant Honda factory near South Marston. The new site will be open to the public. Although it is within the grounds of the Honda car factory,.

This is the very first step. On the road towards attracting Hydrogen fuel-cell cars to the UK. So, the single pump will be able to fill the new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. They will be able to get their electricity from an electrochemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen. Which will generate a current car with gas-based hydrogen. Although any member of the public will have to pass a BOC safety course,. Of course, before, they were able to fill their hydrogen cars.

The new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will be able to get their electricity from an electrochemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen, which will generate a current. The only wastes that are omitted are water vapour and heat, making the cars extremely environmentally friendly.

Okay, let’s get into the exciting world of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

Consider this: It’s 2024, and the hype about electric vehicles (EVs) is no longer limited to batteries. Enter hydrogen fuel cell technology, the cool new kid on the block in the car industry.

What’s the deal with hydrogen fuel cell vehicles?

However, it is not all sunshine and rainbows. The technology is fantastic, but there are a few challenges. To begin, hydrogen refuelling stations are as rare as a bright day in November in the United Kingdom. They must become more common before these vehicles can truly take off. Furthermore, manufacturing hydrogen fuel in an environmentally friendly manner is still an ongoing process.

The future seems bright (and green).
Despite the hurdles, the future of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is bright. With governments pushing for greener transportation solutions and companies investing in research, we may see more of these environmentally friendly vehicles on the road.

A little of local flavour. hydrogen fuel cell vehicles represent the future frontier in clean driving

In the United Kingdom, we are not only passionate about a nice cup of tea; we are also committed to renewable energy. The government has been investing in hydrogen technology, so who knows? Perhaps we’ll see hydrogen stations sprout up like mushrooms after a rainstorm.

To summarise, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles represent the future frontier in clean driving. Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda are on the front lines, but there’s still a long road ahead. It’s an exciting time in the automobile industry, and with a little British creativity, we might just be at the forefront of the green revolution. Keep an eye out, because hydrogen-powered transportation is the future.

This is much earlier than thought before.

In my opinion, this technology will be a winner. Eventually, the motorist will be able to travel just as far as a conventional gasoline car. Without having to have the time consuming inconvenience. So, of having to charge up the battery for the return journey,. That’s, of course unless the present battery technology is not significantly modified.

Other car makers have also shown more interest. The new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will be able to get their electricity from an electrochemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen, which will generate a current.

The new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will be able to get their electricity from an electrochemical reaction between oxygen and hydrogen, which will generate a current powered car.  Honda, of course, and Hyundai, as well as Toyota, whose hydrogen cars are expected to be able to a range of about 300 miles from a full tank, and the fuel will only take three or four minutes to fill the tank.

The USA are at the forefront of supplying fuel.

The new hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles will be able to get their electricity. So, from an electrochemical relationship between oxygen and hydrogen,. Significantly, this will generate a string of filling stations. Naturally, with 68 stations stretching from San Diego to San Francisco, and a further 20 new filling stations to be built by 2015,.

The new Toyota car is expected to be called the FV2. So, and will be made including all the latest IT technology. Making the car a real stunner. Another Toyota model will be known as the i-road . Which will be a three wheeler city car ! Of course, this car is well advanced and will be having trials in several cities. From Japan to France this year (2014)

Hydrogen fuel-cell cars

Germans are dreaming of this new technology

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Toyota cars go ahead with Hydrogen fuel power

As a result of more advanced research. So, the hydrogen fuel cell technology has moved further on. Hence,

at this moment in time companies are setting up Hydrogen fuel-cell cars filling stations all over Europe. One company that has been heavily involved is Air Liquide . Consequently, who are in the process of developing filling stations. Indeed have built 60 new Hydrogen fuel-cell cars filling stations across the World.

Air Liquide have said that these fuel-cell cars can be filled in a few minutes and the equipment that is used to fill the car is much the same as a diesel or petrol car and is just as safe.

More reading…http://www.airliquide-hydrogen-energy.com/en/notre-offre/filling-station.html

Here in the UK we are making forward moves to build a network of Hydrogen fuel-cell cars fuel filling stations and negotiations are taking place to use the network of supermarket filling stations to accommodate Hydrogen Fuel Cells pumps alongside the standard pumps used for petrol and diesel.

This move by Toyota will bring into play a battle of the green choices; one will be the fuel-cell cars and the other lithium-ion technologies, very interesting to see who will come out on top.

So, to update the situation the Toyota are still leading the way forward. The main stumbling block is the lack of infrastructure for customers to fill up. Importantly, German car maker BMW is also interested in pursuing their interest in the Hydrogen powered cars.

So, BMW along with the “clean energy partnership initiative” are looking to set up to 130 service stations by the year 2022. Ultimately, this will allow up to 60,000 hydrogen cars to operate in Germany. Optimistically, service station locations should increase up to 400 by 2025

I must admit that I am loosing the plot regarding the number of alternative fueled cars that are now being developed. On the other hand I am very pleased that other forms of fuel are been experimented with.

None of these companies has yet disclosed any sales figures, but their fuels represent much larger pieces of the alternative fuel market. The EIA report for 2016 included less than In the United States, about 500 hydrogen-fueled vehicles are in use, and about 330 of those are registered in California.

The size of this individually produced marketplace of AFVs (Armoured Fighting vehicles). As a result, may never be officially counted or calculated. It’s clear that the shift from petroleum to the next generation of fuels has already gathered a lot of momentum.Indeed things are now moving on at pace. It is also clear that individuals from around the world.

Thus, are not waiting for big automakers. Including their governments. Hence, to decide what fuels they should use.

The only problem with hydrogen cell vehicles is the lack of  the re-fueling infrastructure. However things are slightly improving with a new hydrogen fuel station opening on the M25 here in the UK and several more in the pipeline.

Hydrogen fuel cells are certainly one of the ways forward and emit zero emissions. Indeed UK supermarket chain Sainsburys have opened a hydrogen fuel facility on one of their sites.

Hydrogen Plugin Mercedes Makes Debut-This new model from Mercedes will only re-enforce the interest in this type of alternative fuel.

Of course, there are three major categories of alternative fuels in use now. One that we seem to have forgotten about is  bio-fuels. Also we have electric power and hydrogen power. Subsequently. we have the  electric battery cars versus the hybrid plug in cars debacle? for example, hydrogen fuel cell vs HHO ( which does not appear to be catching on).

Also, bio diesel vs ethanol. In fact bio diesel fuels are also being made from algae. These alternatives though seem to be falling behind. The main emphasis being the drive for the total electric car EV.
There are hundreds of videos out now about converting your car to use these other non viable fuels. However things in this direction are moving real slowly.
Similar companies exist and sell plans, parts lists, and instructions for converting a car to run on electric power (mostly of the plugin variety). Books and instructions on how to build bio diesel kits and recipes for growing algae bio diesel also are easy to find online.

Individuals have produced hybrid cars and vehicles running completely on all of these alternative fuel sources.I must admit though that in big picture of things then these are very small numbers. One company that sells the instructions and maintains a worldwide support group.

Hence, for people doing their own HHO fuel conversion. So, reported that more than 11,000 people bought their product last year.

There’s the difficulty of tracking just who is converting their vehicles and how. The EIA has surveyed private fleet owners. Including quasi-government and local, state and national government bodies. Thus, to get the basis for their calculations.

There are plenty of automakers, small and large, around the world coming out with different variations of all these cars. Including this new Mercedes Model.

Hydrogen Plugin Mercedes Makes Debut-Lithium-Ion may have a short life?

We do need alternatives? The electric car era will be very short because Lithium-Ion batteries are made up by using “Cobalt”. Cobalt is a very rare commodity and we will soon run out if the current volumes of use are not restricted. We also have had recent developments with the good old fossil fueled cars powered by the good old fashioned lead acid car battery.

Mazda have developed the first petrol engine that ignites by compression instead of a spark plug. Also burning much greener with less poisonous emissions. Yet another good step forward?

Mercedes-Benz is putting the finishing touches on a fuel cell version of the GLC ahead of its debut in Frankfurt. We don’t know many details about the car yet, but Mercedes has pulled back the curtain on the development process leading up to its launch.

hydrogen fuel cell car on tap for 2015 Newsday The next Prius, which is expected in 2015, will include improved batteries and smaller, more powerful electric motors, and will be built on the company’s new global…

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

This is great news about the Toyota’s Prius EV Hydrogen Batteries

This news is good news for the many motoring fans. Thus, who think that the future should be a mix of technologies. In the World of cars. The past twenty years alone we have seen many new developments. Of course, In the battery World.

Apart from modifying the ever present free flow lead acid batteries. So we have seen the new battery types such as AGM and GEL batteries cropping up to serve as back up Varta batteries. Hence, for many industries such as computer back up systems and even for the early computers that we all used. All this new technology was introduced along with need for progress and the appetite from consumers and industry for better and faster electrical equipment.

Toyota’s Prius EV

This development has never stopped. Of late we have developed many new types of batteries. As a result, that were funded by Governments and large corporations. So, to satisfy the need of the ever expanding electrical and engineering projects. Whether they were large or small.

The next generation of batteries was to be known as the NiMH, Nickel metal hydride batteries. Mainly for use the ever expanding miniaturization of personnel computers. These were followed by the invention of the Lithium- Ion batteries . Invented in the 1990’s for use on the Stealth aircraft in the USA. Also used in the space program by NASA, the American space agency.

The latest surge in EV development. Came when there was an urgent need to save the Earth from greenhouse gases. The main culprit is pollution from fossil fuel driven cars. So the Governments of the World. Have got together and agreed that emissions had to be reduced. This caused a frantic rush. Thus, for the car makers to come up with an alternative fuel supply. Hence, to gasoline products. Of course, the answer would be the electric or the hybrid car. At first car makers came up with the Lithium-Ion batteries and are still developing today.

Toyota’s Prius EV Looking for alternatives

However because these cars will not travel far. Of course, before the batteries require re-charging. Scientists are trying to come up with an alternative. One of the companies to do this is Toyota’s Prius EV from Japan. This new type of Toyota’s Prius EV battery is called the Hydrogen-cell battery and in my opinion will be the winner of this technology race in the future.

The car. Toyota’s Prius EV is expected to be coming onto the market as early as 2015. Already gas stations are been prepared by adding Hydrogen pumps on their forecourts. In my opinion, yet another step forward.

Hydrogen Fuel cells-GREEN DRIVING- Hydrogen Cars Look Better for the FUTURE

Hydrogen Fuel cells cars could be here sooner than you think ?

Of course, plans are already being set out to build a network of Hydrogen Fuel Cells filling stations. These filling stations will start out across London . Of course, and then across the whole of the UK. In my opinion this will be great news.So these cars will be sold as an alternative to the Lithium-Ion  battery cars. That are out at the moment and of course the so called dirty oil based fuels. Such as petrol and diesel.

The car is being developed by Hyundai. Naturally, the company hope to build over a thousand of these cars by 2015. The Hydrogen Fuel cells engine has been developed in many different countries. I am very impressed by the work done in Australia at the RMIT University in Melbourne Australia. I have linked a video demonstrating how an Hydrogen Fuel cells engine works. Made by RMIT University…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7_QYTAi1-E

Hydrogen makes up about 75% of the Universe that we all live in.

We all know that eventually fossil fuels will run out. Although the timing of this has probably been extended. Significantly, by the advent of “Fracking”. Both in the USA and here in the UK,(although on a much smaller scale). This may have prolonged the life of the combustion engined car .So, that we are all familiar with, or at least be part of the fuels mix in the long run.

Of course hydrogen is a much more efficient fuel than fossil fuels. The process of passing hydrogen through a fuel cell is much more effective than the petrochemicals. Consequently, used in the conventional fossil fuel engines. That we still use today in large numbers. Also unlike the electric powered cars, hydrogen can store the energy that it creates.

Another great advantage of Fuel cells is that it produces “zero”emissions and will not pollute the Planet giving us all a greener future, this has got to be the way forward and not the all electric cars that a been produced at the moment, although I still think that the electric car will be part of the mix.

Six hydrogen cars filling stations for London to start with

The main aim will be to open over a million Hydrogen Fuel cells facilities and eventually the hydrogen pumps will integrate with regular pumps selling petrol and diesel on the forecourts of large companies such as Salisbury and Morrison’s super markets, who are showing great interest in the new program of hydrogen expansion. The expected cost to fill your car with hydrogen will be around the £40 mark which will give you about 400 miles in the new Hyundai ix 35. This will be about the same range as the conventional fossil fuel engined cars, and a great advantage over the electric cars that at the moment can only go short distances before requiring a recharge of their car batteries.
The new ix3 5 drives without any noise and only emits water from the exhaust. It has no gearbox and has drive selector say like an automatic gearbox.

It will take time establish itself but to me this technology, Hydrogen Fuel cells, will be a winner, it sounds almost too good to be true ?
