Toyota cars go ahead with Hydrogen fuel power

As a result of more advanced research. So, hydrogen fuel cell technology has moved further on. Hence, at this moment in time companies are setting up Hydrogen fuel-cell cars filling stations all over Europe. One company that has been heavily involved is Air Liquide . Consequently,who are in the process of developing filling stations. Indeed have built 60 new Hydrogen fuel-cell cars filling stations across the World.

Air Liquide have said that these fuel-cell cars can be filled in a few minutes and the equipment that is used to fill the car is much the same as a diesel or petrol car and is just as safe.

Here in the UK we are making forward moves to build a network of Hydrogen fuel-cell cars fuel filling stations and negotiations are taking place to use the network of supermarket filling stations to accommodate Hydrogen Fuel Cells pumps alongside the standard pumps used for petrol and diesel.

This move by Toyota will bring into play a battle of the green choices; one will be fuel-cell cars and the other will be lithium-ion technologies. It will be very interesting to see who comes out on top.

So, to update the situation,

Toyota is still leading the way forward. The main stumbling block is the lack of infrastructure for customers to fill up. Importantly, German car maker BMW is also interested in pursuing its interest in hydrogen-powered cars.

So, BMW, along with the “clean energy partnership initiative” is looking to set up 130 service stations by the year 2022. Ultimately, this will allow up to 60,000 hydrogen cars to operate in Germany. Optimistically, service station locations should increase up to 400 by 2025.

I must admit that I am losing the plot regarding the number of alternative-fueled cars that are now being developed. On the other hand, I am very pleased that other forms of fuel are been experimented with.

None of these companies has yet disclosed any sales figures, but their fuels represent much larger pieces of the alternative fuel market. The EIA report for 2016 included less than In the United States, about 500 hydrogen-fueled vehicles are in use, and about 330 of those are registered in California.

This news is good news for many motoring fans.Thus, who think that the future should be a mix of technologies. In the World of cars,. In the past twenty years alone, we have seen many new developments. Of course, In the battery World.

Of course, plans are already being set out to build a network of Hydrogen Fuel Cells filling stations. These filling stations will start out across London . Of course, and then across the whole of the UK. In my opinion this will be great news.So these cars will be sold as an alternative to the Lithium-Ion  battery cars. That are out at the moment and of course the so called dirty oil based fuels. Such as petrol and diesel.

Hydrogen makes up about 75% of the Universe that we all live in.

We all know that eventually fossil fuels will run out. Although the timing of this has probably been extended. Significantly, by the advent of “Fracking”. Both in the USA and here in the UK,(although on a much smaller scale). This may have prolonged the life of the combustion engined car .So, that we are all familiar with, or at least be part of the fuels mix in the long run.

Of course hydrogen is a much more efficient fuel than fossil fuels. The process of passing hydrogen through a fuel cell is much more effective than the petrochemicals. Consequently, used in the conventional fossil fuel engines. That we still use today in large numbers. Also unlike the electric powered cars, hydrogen can store the energy that it creates.

Another great advantage of Fuel cells is that it produces “zero”emissions and will not pollute the Planet giving us all a greener future, this has got to be the way forward and not the all electric cars that a been produced at the moment, although I still think that the electric car will be part of the mix.

Six hydrogen cars filling stations for London to start with

The main aim will be to open over a million Hydrogen Fuel cells facilities and eventually the hydrogen pumps will integrate with regular pumps selling petrol and diesel on the forecourts of large companies such as Salisbury and Morrison’s super markets, who are showing great interest in the new program of hydrogen expansion. The expected cost to fill your car with hydrogen will be around the £40 mark which will give you about 400 miles in the new Hyundai ix 35. This will be about the same range as the conventional fossil fuel engined cars, and a great advantage over the electric cars that at the moment can only go short distances before requiring a recharge of their car batteries.
The new ix3 5 drives without any noise and only emits water from the exhaust. It has no gearbox and has drive selector say like an automatic gearbox.

It will take time establish itself but to me this technology, Hydrogen Fuel cells, will be a winner, it sounds almost too good to be true ?

This is just another part of the big mix of fuels that will power the cars of the near future.

Hydrogen cells are also the favourite of some car manufacturers. Including Toyota now with the Toyota Mirai and BMW. In my opinion, Hydrogen will be available at many filling stations in the future.

It has come to my attention that there are at least three leading car manufacturers that are heading down the hydrogen fuel road with their cars. I am a keen follower of market trends and the direction that the green way forward is heading, and that includes the battle that is rising between EV vehicles, battery Tec technology, the Hydrogen cell technology.

Apart from Toyota with the Toyota Mirai  the other two players are Hyundai and Honda. Other car makers have also been involved with Hydrogen including the American giant GM. Apparently GM has been running a test fleet of them for a few years now, but it is the Far Eastern country’s car makers that are ahead of the field.

There are enemies of hydrogen as well as battery driven cars

But when the largest car company in the world looks interested in something, then it is time to sit up and take note. Toyota is a very experienced and successful manufacturer of cars and has made over 5,600 fuel cell-related patents available. Toyota has started off the motion for hydrogen-powered cars to make it to market at a faster pace.

The inclusion of the auto industry is of particular import to Japan.

Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are key contributors to Japan’s economy, and the industry together accounts for 10% of the national workforce and 20% of exports. To me it is a good thing that Japan is thinking about supporting the home industry, and developing these new products will bring stability to the home workforce.

It does have to make these technologies available to us all eventually to comply with European and American laws, but I think that the Japanese are thinking about this when they free off the patents for the new technology cars.

The scrap between battery power and hydrogen is on.

Both systems have their advantages and disadvantages. So, for instance, electric cars only require plug-in stations. Of course, to be re-charged. Significantly, the hydrogen cars will require a network of filling station locations. However, this will mean that they could just be added to the existing gas stations all over the world.

Both cars can claim to have zero emissions.

But the lithium-ion cars are re-charged by “dirty” coal-fired power stations. So are not as green as people think. Especially in countries like China! So, the hydrogen car only emits water, so until the power supplies are greener, the hydrogen car wins there.

At the time of writing this post. Both cars are getting about the same mileage! Subsequently, both types of cars are still very expensive to buy. Hydrogen cars can be re-fueled the same as a gas engine. While the battery car has to be charged up over a long period. Although scientists are working on a faster-charged battery all the time,.

Only time will tell which idea brings the most success, but you have to admit that it is interesting times that us auto guys live in.

It is for certain that one of these days we will run out of oil. Although we have now discovered new oil reserves by means of “fracking” we will still run out of oil one of these days. This together with the need to clean up our planet has lead us to try and discover new technologies to drive our transport system forward using less polluting fuels and renewable energies.

How the hydrogen-cell car works

One of the biggest steps has been towards the development of battery power to drive our Electric cars. This development took place at a rapid pace in the first instance, but in my opinion, it has now slowed down as we try to refine the technology to give us more distance on one charge of the electric battery cars.

The technology here has been the use of Lithium-Ion batteries. Some car makers, such as Nissan, have developed the Hybrid Electric Battery Cars, a car that is battery-driven with a backup petrol engine that kicks in when the car reaches a certain speed for out-of-town driving.

Other car producers have opted for full-blown electric-battery cars, which rely totally on a battery for their power. These cars have the problem of travelling any distance, but are good for around-town usage. In my opinion, the battery solution is not the answer to the bigger problem of distance before the battery needs re-charging.

Charging stations are cropping up all over the place and the electric car will have a part to play in the big picture but in my opinion, it is looking like a short-term fix and in any case, these cars are charged up using “dirty fuel” that we use to fuel our power stations; it is just applying a “sticking plaster” on a gaping wound.

Battery cars for short journeys, and hydrogen for long journey?
