INFINITY TYRES (And Beyond)- A look at one of the better Budget tyre brands

Post Updated 23rd Jan 2014

Infinity tyres becoming a top budget tyre

I have decide to write a post about an economy brand of tyre, because out of all the different makes of tyres that we sell from all over the World, then I think that INFINITY TYRES are in my opinion one of the best and most reliable of the cheap tyres, on offer in todays tyre market.

Over the many years that I have bought and sold tyres. Many of the budget brands were owned by some of the large tyre manufacturers, companies like Goodyear own the brand called Debica, which are made in the same factories as their better known brands, but recently, perhaps in the last ten years the economy tyre brands have been manufactured in the far East such as China, (including Michelin, who now make some of their tyres in China)

Infinity tyres Eco Max tyre

Pellon Tyres have dealt with many different cheap tyre brands in the past but we are very happy to concentrate on the Infinity tyres brand ,these tyres are perhaps the best economy tyres that we have used in recent years.

Infinity tyres have also made a wise decision to enter the World of motor-sport, this move will help this tyre company in their research and development programmes to help them produce a better tyre for the regular tyre buyers, who want real value for money.

Although Infinity tyres are classed as an economy tyre, they are getting nearer to being in the mid-range tyre bracket , but I can assure my customers that the Infinity brand will satisfy their tyre needs at a great price.

Infinity tyres are now at bargain prices

Another positive thing about Infinity tyres is that we have not had one faulty tyres amongst the thousands that we sell. We also think that the price of these tyres can not be beat. At the moment you can buy 2x 20555v16 Infinty tyres for as little as £100 for the two, a real bargain.

Designed as a new environmentally friendlier tyre the Goodyear EfficientGrip provides driving performance while reducing fuel consumption.
The EfficientGrip has the great handling and braking qualities you’d expect from a Goodyear tyre – with its Fuel-saving technology and outstanding rolling resistance (13% better) the Goodyear EfficientGrip provides excellent mileage and reduced fuel consumption.

New Grip tyres from Goodyear gain strong label grades and test ratings Etyres Leading German car magazines Auto Zeitung and AD AC Motowelt firmly placed Goodyear’s EfficientGrip tyres Performance in second place, recognising the tyre’s all-round…

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Goodyear EfficientGrip one of the best

Comparatively, this tyre is undoubtedly one of tyre companies best products. Of course, since the Aquatred tyre  took the tyre world by storm ! Including, the Goodyear NCT 5 tyres.

The tyre has come very close to winning top tyre magazines awards. Scoring, very highly on the new tyre labeling system. Significantly, this new tyre is a very good selling tyre for us at Pellon tyres here in Halifax, West Yorkshire in the UK.

Anciently, years ago now, I was fortunate to work for a Goodyear subsidiary, Tyreservices. Consequently, in the late seventies and eighties. Of course, before starting my own tyre company. The Goodyear experience, was fantastic. Because.

I was able to learn enough from Goodyear to be confident about opening my own tyre business. Significantly, and have never looked back. Of course, making Goodyear one of my favorite companies in the tyre World. They have an excellent tyre range including now the EfficientGrip tyres.

Goodyear G800+S Tyres-advert from 1977 and up to date tyre developments

Goodyear G800+S Tyres

Goodyear G800+S Tyres

Goodyear G800+S Tyres steel radial would have been one of the first tyres to compete with Michelin tyres

for steel belted radial tyres that give the driver a good mileage and also good grip in the wet. Goodyear did have some teething problems when the Goodyear G800+S Tyres first came out. The steel belts were not protected against oxidizing correctly with non corroding metals such as copper or brass as the Michelin tyres had perfected this procedure and were having no such problems. This was eventually corrected, I think with the help of Michelin and the Goodyear G800+S Tyres became a very popular tyre and was sold mainly through the Tyreservices outlets simply because Goodyear owned them.    This tyre was evolved with Goodyear’s Grand Prix racing tyres playing a part in the Goodyear G800+S Tyres development. This is now common place amongst today’s tyre companies with Bridgestone tyres of Japan been the latest to be involved in F! racing.

Since this post was written Goodyear and Dunlop have joined forces and become one large company. Goodyear like many of the large tyre companies are constantly coming out with new tyre products each one slightly better than the next,(so they say).

The latest tyres to come out are the Efficient grip range of summer tyres. These tyres are a range of fuel saving tyres due to modern construction and compound mixes. The Vectra 4 Seasons is their latest all-weather tyres and the winter tyre range is made up of eight different Ultragrip tread designs.

Goodyear like other leading tyre companies have also come out with a Run Flat tyre.

As one of the founder tyre companies every one of Goodyear’s tyres have  more than a hundred years of safety-driven research and development behind them. Goodyear state that they are  committed to making drivers feel good, through products that are safer, longer lasting and better for the environment.

With Goodyear G800+S Tyres, you get a great  performance and peace of mind as standard.

Goodyear Fuel Savers-achieved Genuine fuel savings on their Tyres

Goodyear Fuel Savers can save you money

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Terrific Tyres Prove The Point ?

This is a great time of my life to be involved in the motor industry. Hardly a day goes by without some sort of new invention or improvements to the products that are been developed and no more so than in the tyre industry. All these developments are in my opinion due to to improvements in computer designs helping tyre developers to create new products out of new materials to help with the relentless charge towards lowering greenhouse gasses.

These new EfficientGrip Fuel Savers were tested by Autocar Magazineusing

Significantly, using a Citroen Picasso as the test car. Including, using the Goodyear Fuel Savers Efficient Grip tyres. Consequently, the test were carried out over a long period of time. Of course, using normal driving conditions on normal roads and not on test tracks. So, to enable a true and realistic result. The Picasso was a bog standard car and came up with a saving of 2% over the total period of testing. Naturally, a significant achievement from Goodyear Fuel Savers. Reducing both fuel consumption and reducing greenhouse gasses.

Other tyre companies developing new products

Most companies in this sector are developing newer products that are more beneficial to the environment.Michelin and Continental are both producing greener products with far better rolling resistance figures, helping the vehicles go further with less resistance between the tyre and the road thus reducing fuel consumption.

Goodyear Tyres Early Days-How things were In the nineties.

Goodyear Tyres Early Days

Goodyear Tyres Early Days- no longer number one in 1990.

So, in 1990 the French company Michelin tyres. Bought out another tyre company called BF Goodrich tyres of America. This was a good acquisition for Michelin because Goodrich had previously merged with Uniroyal tyres. So making a massive tyre manufacturing conglomerate.

of course, in Goodyear tyres early days. Consequently, Firestone tyres and General tyres had suffered declining sales volumes. Subsequently, at the hand of Goodyear tyres dominance. Especially, in the radial tyre market. Firestone were taken over by Bridgestone tyres of Japan.

GOODYEAR TYRES Early Days

The famous Goodyear Eagle emblem

General  were bought out by Continental  of Germany.

Due these amalgamations. These bigger companies had now grown into the same size as Goodyear tyres. So,  having an impact on Goodyears sales. Goodyear, had their fingers in other non-tyre ventures. Including the “All American Pipeline”. This company was producing operational losses and was costing Goodyear over $3 billion of debt. However, Goodyear tyres were slow to react and make changes . Resulting in the appointment of a Mr C Gault as chairman of the company.

Goodyear tyres were now suffering. Consequently, between 1989 and 1991 they shed over 12000 jobs, 10% of its workforce. Redundancies came mainly from the white collar section of the workforce. The giant tyre company also set about restructuring its factories with some closures and others being modified, this reconstruction of the company was estimated to save Goodyear tyres over $250 million a year in savings.

Goodyear tyres believed adamantly in the research and development programs

Of course, they kept up the spending on new tyre development. Something that GOODYEAR TYRES  were very passionate about. The company started to bring out new products on the back of these new developments. Passionately, new tyres began to emerge. First ones been the The Goodyear Eagle GT and the Eagle GA. I remember these tyre well, they were modeled for the more luxury cars in the early nineties. These new products helped Goodyear tyres to regain the market share that they lost to the Michelin group and in 1992 they restructured their debts to a more manageable amount of around $1.5 billion.

Another great new tyre to come out of Goodyear tyres in the early nineties

Of course, was the “Aqua tread”, which was an all season tyre sold around the World and will be remembered by older drivers. The new tyre was launched simultaneously across the globe. I remember attending the Goodyear tyres launch on their test track in Luxembourg and the tyre became a huge success.GOODYEAR TYRES Early Days

Bald Tyres

Bald Tyres-and Rain Soaked Roads = AQUAPLANING

Bald Tyres

Bald Tyres

Tyres like this are dangerous and presented to us on a fairly regular basis?

Bald Tyres-Change your tyres at 3 mm to avoid aquaplaning

As we all know, then this has been one of the wettest days of the year here in the UK. I say this because when I was driving along the M62 motorway I noticed that many parts of the motorway were flooded and had large areas of standing water. On all the carriageways. This meant one thing to me “AQUAPLANING”.

Unfortunately, we know in the tyre industry. That many motorists are putting off buying new replacement tyres. All our sales figures are down. So the mixture of bald tyres on these very wet roads is a disaster waiting to happen. As I am writing this blog some motorists will be experiencing aquaplaning when driving along the motorway at speed with no tread left on their tyres, as I say this is a disaster waiting to happen and it will happen, “mark my word”

What is aquaplaning on Bald Tyres ?

Bald Tyres

A glass road is used to film the tyres on test by the tyre manufacturing companies to test for aquaplaning. this picture shows the tyre from underneath as it drives over the flooded glass road.

Of course, aquaplaning is a word that became synonymous with a Goodyear Tyres advert in the 1970s. Now becoming a very important word.because of our changing climate and faster roads with increasing traffic numbers. Aquaplaning, means that your wheel loses contact with road surface. In affect, due to a thin layer of water between the tyre and the road surface.

The driver loses control of his car very often causing an accident. Certainly, a good tyre with more than 3 mm of remaining tread.Of course, will push the water away as the car drives through the water at speed.  Giving good grip and safer driving  conditions. All the leading  manufacturers design their tyres with aquaplaning (Driving in Wet Weather) as one of the main aspects of design.

Michelin  have even developed a system called “the anti-surf system” to enable their products to give maximum grip when going through areas of static water on the roads, this system is built into the Michelin Pilot sports 3. This tyre has also got added shoulder design to help push the water away and help delay the onset of aquaplaning.

Goodyear Wrangler SUV Tyre-Still a great 4×4 and SUV tyre option

Goodyear Wrangler SUV Tyre

The tyre less wheel was a hard ride (Goodyear Wrangler SUV Tyre)

Way back in time when men first started to discover ways of building. So, they looked for ways and means to transport and transfer their materials. Firstly, man has always looked for ways to

Goodyear Wrangler SUV Tyre

reduce the workload. Making things more efficient for themselves. So, moving these building materials and other large objects. Would be too much for men power alone. So man invented other ways to do it. This is why the wheel was created. Of course, to try and make things much easier for themselves !and boy did it work!.

Must be remembered that the real first type of wheel would have been whole tree logs. Thus placed under the large objects to be moved. Consequently, and then levered by thousands of men. Loads were placed over it (such as when the Egyptian Pyramids where made). While the object was rolled forward. Constantly placing additional logs which were placed at the front.

Chinese people were thought to be responsible for inventing the first wheels . As we see on carts and certainly the Romans used this old technology. Of course, this was much improved . So,by the addition of a metal band around the wooden wheel. Things did not move on for centuries. Consequently, until the rubber rim was invented by Charles Goodyear. The rest as we say is history, that brings right to where we are now driving about on sophisticated tyres.

Goodyear tyres were one of the pioneering founders of the tyre revolution.

Nowadays, there are many kinds of Goodyear tyres. There are tyres for all sorts of different applications such as tyres for muddy roads, snowy conditions, rough roads and several more types of tyres that you can readily find in the market. These tyres are usually made out of rubber and synthetic materials that produce tyres that are durable and road-worthy, such a tough unrelenting tyre is the Goodyear Wrangler SUV Tyre, specially made for such tough terrains that I have mentioned.

If you are a car or SUV owner it is odds on, that you have a spare tyre in your boot.(Goodyear Wrangler SUV Tyre)

Goodyear Wrangler tyres are easy to drive on, they are an easy tyre ride for giving great comfort to the driver of the 4×4 or SUV owner, they are very dependable, they can last for a long time with proper maintenance (checking your pressures at regular intervals). You must change your tyres when they are worn out, they can cause road accidents that could be fatal

To lower the odds and the risks of accidents, always have your tyres checked and make sure that they are compatible with the terrain you intend to cross. You must check your Goodyear Wranglers for pressure and examine them for cuts and bumps before you wonder out into the great beyond.

Goodyear Car Tyres are amongst the best in the tyre industry and have contributed to road safety over the past century, creating many unique tyre products, the Goodyear Wrangler is one of the best off/ road tyres in the World and competes with other such makes as General SUV tyres.

Contact 5 CONTINENTAL TYRES-Sees the introduction of anew premium tyre.

Post Updated 23rd Dec 2013

End of March sees the launch of the Continental tyres Premium Contact 5contact 5,Continental tyres ready for Daytona races

The press from all the leading motoring journals met In  Barcelona for the launch of the New premium Contact 5 tyres. This new tyre is designed for all types of cars from small

Continental have and will always be one the Worlds front tyre companies, in tyre development the new Contisport 5 is no exception to this rule.

family saloons to the luxury end of the market.

Continental tyres are constantly improving their products, along with the other leading tyre manufacturers. This is to keep in step with the ever changing designs created by modern car makers, especially in Germany and Japan. The new premium Contact 5 is a few steps further on in development from the sports Contact 5. The new premium Contact 5 boasts much better braking distances in both wet and dry road conditions and has the same rolling resistance as the eco contact 5,making these tyres a whole lot better than there predecessors’.

The new tyres come with a few added benefits to add to better contact with the road during braking. They have what they call a 3D edge. The new design also includes a new type of shoulder zone, which reduces energy loss along the shoulder zone. All these extra features give the new tyres a lower fuel consumption, helping the motorist to reduce their fuel costs, it is expected that this could be as much as 12%, a good saving.

Continental tyres have also designed a more flexible side-wall to give increased comfort for the car drivers and with the addition of whisper bars the tyre is much quieter compared with the other tyres in Continentals extensive range.

Once again I must praise Continental for another wonderful tyre product, another step thanks keeps them in number one spot as the Worlds finest tyre maker. Please click the link a learn more on Continental tyres web site...www.continental-tyres.co.uk/passenger

Try Different General 4×4 Tyres-On your 4×4 vehicle and you may enjoy a new experience.

Post Updated 20th Dec 2013/27th March 2016

There’s probably nothing wrong with the normal tyres on your 4×4 vehicle? Try Try Different General 4×4 Tyres

Try Different General 4×4 Tyres-The tyre manufacturers have worked closely with the vehicle manufacturer to ensure that the best level of performance and comfort can be achieved in the tyres that they provide.

Most motorist spends most of their time on the normal tarmac roads, the tyres fitted to a vehicle at the factory are also made to provide a certain amount of off-road capability, but the main priorities will be for stability at speed, good steering control and very low noise on the road.

Many off-road 4×4 tyres will perform very well on the normal tarmac roads, but they have a very heavy tread and can be much noisier and the ride can be bumpier and less comfortable. This varies according to the specific 4×4 tyre and the patterns used in the 4×4 tyres tread design.

So these good road tyres are not the correct product for the 4×4 tyres drivers who have more individual needs and bigger aspirations. This includes the owners of ultra-high-performance vehicles who require the highest grip possible or 4×4 owners that need to venture off the road for more fun ?

Whether you are going off road to enjoy wide open spaces, across lanes and streams or scrambling across the specific terrain, for work or sport, correct tyre selection becomes very important and a whole host of new things has to be considered. Remember that road surfaces are tarmac. Off-road surfaces can be hugely different, from muddy fields, peat bogs to rocky ridges, they all offer a more challenging experience if you fit the correct 4×4 tyres on your vehicle.

MAKE SURE YOU GET the RIGHT 4×4 tyres

Choosing the incorrectly sized tyre with a less aggressive tread pattern can mean danger as well as being costly to your pocket and will reduce your tyre performance. For example fitting a mud terrain 4×4 tyre to your vehicle will give excellent levels of grip in the extreme “off road” conditions, but will cause a huge increase in your braking distances and will reduce steering responsiveness. An all round bad experience for you and your vehicle.

Try Different General 4x4 Tyres

The excellent General Grabber AT tyre

You may not always be able to fit a more aggressive tyre in your size it is not always possible to fit the most appropriate tyre for your needs by using the original tyre size recommended for the vehicle. You can buy a wheel and tyre package that fit you 4×4 there are certain conversions for 4×4 vehicles that our experienced 4×4 adviser’s can advise you on.

Here at Pellon tyres in Halifax. Therefore, we offer an excellent range of the Firestone tyres. For this reason, we source our stock from Britain’s leading wholesaler. Thus, and offer it online across the country.

New tyres are flooding into the UK from China and the far East. For this reason, Firestone tyres are holding out the opposition. Because of their quality and staying power. Due to the many years of manufacturing experience. Of course, in tyre manufacturing throughout the World.

I have worked on Firestone tyres for many years

and have even worked on fitting the Giant tyres that you see on Earthmoving machines, they have always been a good product. The great Firestone also makes tyres for racing cars, and that is where the development comes from to make the Firestone  that we are now driving about on in our cars.

Firestone, as most people know, are now owned by Bridgestone tyres of Japan but because of the reputation that goes before them, Firestone has kept the original name.
