A Surprise Under the Bonnet at Pellon Tyres: The Honda Jazz with Eight Spark Plugs

One of our frequent clients recently brought their dependable little Honda Jazz into Pellon Tyres for a standard servicing. I’ve seen my share of oddball automotive features, but this one really took me by surprise. We made the startling discovery that this small car utilises *eight* spark plugs instead of the typical four when we climbed under the bonnet to change the spark plugs. Yes, you read correctly! This small, useful runabout has eight spark plugs hidden in its engine.

This naturally caught my attention, and I felt it would be a fantastic small piece to share with all of you. Let’s examine the history of this enduringly popular car and discover why the Honda Jazz requires twice as many spark plugs as the majority of compact cars.

The Honda Jazz Has Eight Spark Plugs: Why? Honda Jazz With 8 Spark Plugs

For those who are perplexed by the idea that a car as small as the Jazz needs eight spark plugs, Honda’s inventive engineering provides the solution. Honda’s i-DSI (intelligent dual sequential ignition) engine powered the Jazz that we worked on. Instead of using a single spark plug per cylinder, this ingenious little system employs two. Why? Enhancing performance, reducing emissions, and increasing fuel efficiency are the key factors.

The engine’s fuel-air mixture can burn more thoroughly thanks to the dual-ignition system. In essence, the gasoline burns more efficiently because both spark plugs ignite in precisely the right order. Given the current fuel prices, this not only makes the engine run more smoothly but also improves fuel efficiency, which every Jazz owner will value!

Although this technology was revolutionary when it was first developed, it also means that maintenance is a little more involved. It takes a little longer (and costs a little more for parts) to replace eight spark plugs rather than four, but it’s all necessary to maintain this ingenious little engine operating the way Honda intended.

A Synopsis of the Honda Jazz’s Past – Honda Jazz With 8 Spark Plugs

Since it first came to the UK in 2002, the Honda Jazz—also referred to as the Honda Fit in other parts of the world—has been a common sight on the roads. But its origins are a little more ancient. Although the Jazz brand was first used on a Honda vehicle in the early 1980s, the current model really took off in the twenty-first century.

The Jazz established a reputation as a dependable and useful supermini right away. Its amazing interior size was (and remains) its most notable feature. For a car of its size, the inside is surprisingly spacious and adaptable thanks to Honda’s “Magic Seats” system, which enables the back seats to fold entirely flat or flip up like movie seats.

It’s easy to understand why Halifax drivers have come to love the Jazz over the years. It is small enough to easily manoeuvre through our winding streets while still providing plenty of space for passengers, shopping, and even the occasional trip to the tip. The Jazz has established itself as a trustworthy and effective little worker, whether you’re driving up the Calder Valley or speeding around town.

The Jazz (2007–2014) second-generation model is the one we serviced. Thanks in part to its ingenious dual-ignition engine, this iteration increased fuel efficiency and added a little more refinement to the original’s success.

Reflections and Local Connections- Honda Jazz With 8 Spark Plugs

I couldn’t help but consider how appropriate the Jazz are for our community. Its practical design and ingenious engineering make it the ideal vehicle for Halifax’s blend of urban and rural areas. Whether you’re traversing the undulating hills of the Shibden Valley or scaling the steep inclines of Wainhouse Tower, the Jazz is more than capable.

Over the years, Pellon Tyres has seen a wide variety of cars pass through our doors, but working on a car like the Jazz has a certain allure. It serves as a reminder of how advanced automobile technology has become and how automakers like Honda are still coming up with new ideas for even the smallest vehicles.

 Concluding Remarks

Examining its eight spark plugs revealed that the Honda Jazz boasts more features than its modest appearance. It’s an excellent illustration of Honda’s inventiveness and the reason the Jazz has stayed so well-liked by drivers in Halifax and beyond.

Remember to follow your car’s maintenance schedule whether you’re the proud owner of a Honda Jazz or any other smart tiny vehicle. And since we enjoy a good surprise, bring your car down to Pellon Tyres if you’re ever unsure about what’s under the hood!

Cheers to the Honda Jazz, a compact car with a lot of ingenuity. Let’s toast!

Car Servicing at Pellon Tyres – Keeping Halifax Motors Running Smoothly

Here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax, we’ve always said that regular car servicing is one of the best ways to keep your motor running smoothly and avoid nasty surprises further down the line. Yet, you’d be surprised how many drivers put it off—until a warning light pops up or a rattle starts that shouldn’t be there!

Just last week, we had three different cars in for issues that could’ve been caught early with a routine service. It’s a reminder that, much like visiting the dentist or doctor, it’s better to keep things in good nick than fix them when they go wrong.

Why Servicing Matters: car-servicing-halifax

Modern cars might be packed with electronics, sensors, and clever gadgets, but they still rely on the same basics — oil, air, fuel, and cooling systems that all need looking after.

A service isn’t just about changing oil and filters. It’s about making sure everything under the bonnet is working as it should, catching small problems before they become expensive ones.

Here at Pellon Tyres, our trained technicians go through each service checklist carefully — checking brakes, tyres, suspension, lights, and fluids. We always keep our customers in the loop and won’t replace anything without a chat first. That’s why people from all over Halifax—from King Cross and Ovenden to Sowerby Bridge—trust us to look after their vehicles year after year.

Different Types of Car Service: car-servicing-halifax

We offer two main types of service here at Pellon Tyres:

Interim Service

Perfect if you’re clocking up miles or just want peace of mind between annual checks. It covers the essentials — engine oil and filter change, top-ups, safety inspections, and a good look at the brakes, tyres, and steering components.

Full Service: car-servicing-halifax

This is the one most drivers go for once a year. It includes all the interim checks plus air and fuel filters, cabin filters (if needed), a full inspection of suspension, exhaust, and belts, and a full brake check. We’ll also look for leaks, corrosion, and any early signs of wear.

Many of our customers book their full service and MOT together, saving both time and money. You can book both easily on our website: www.pellontyres.co.uk.

Why Service with Pellon Tyres?

We’ve been part of the Halifax motoring scene since 1989, and in that time we’ve seen every kind of car and customer you can imagine—from brand-new electric vehicles to old classics still chugging along nicely.

We’re proud to be a local, independent garage, not a faceless chain. That means when you bring your car to us, you get a personal service — real people, honest advice, and no hidden extras.

Our workshop is fully equipped with the latest diagnostic tools, and our team — led by Dale, Ryan, and the rest of the lads — treat every car like their own. Whether you drive a little city car like a Peugeot 107 or a larger SUV, we’ll keep it running smoothly and safely.

A Bit of Local Halifax History

Cars have changed a lot since Pellon Tyres first opened its doors back in the late eighties. Back then, you’d see Fords, Rovers, and Austin Metros zipping up Pellon Lane, with carburettors and points needing constant attention. These days it’s computer diagnostics and hybrid systems, but one thing hasn’t changed — Halifax drivers still value good, honest service.

We’re proud to have looked after generations of customers, from young drivers getting their first MOT to long-time regulars who’ve been with us for decades. It’s all part of being a local garage at the heart of the community.

What Happens If You Skip a Service? car-servicing-halifax

We see this a lot — people skipping services thinking they’re saving a few quid. But it often ends up costing more in the long run.

Old oil loses its ability to lubricate properly, filters clog up, and small leaks can turn into big repair bills. We’ve seen engines seize, timing belts snap, and catalytic converters fail — all things that could’ve been prevented with a simple service.

A well-maintained car not only lasts longer but also holds its value better when you come to sell or trade it in. It’s a small investment that pays off big time.

Book Your Next Service with Pellon Tyres

If it’s been a while since your last service, or if you’re not sure when it’s due, pop in for a quick chat or give us a ring. We’ll check your service history and recommend what’s best for your car and budget.

You can also book online 24/7 at www.pellontyres.co.uk — just choose your preferred date and time, and we’ll do the rest.

So whether you’re off on a trip, getting ready for winter, or just want to keep your motor running like new, Pellon Tyres in Halifax is here to help.

Peugeot 107 Back to Its Quiet Best at Pellon Tyres, Halifax

Every day at Pellon Tyres in Halifax brings a surprise or two through the doors, and yesterday was no different. A bright red Peugeot 107 pulled up, catching everyone’s eye straight away. The car looked cheerful enough, but the moment the engine started, it was clear something wasn’t right. You could hear it before you saw it — a proper loud rumble echoing across the forecourt!

The lady who owned the car said it had been getting noisier over the past few weeks, to the point where she could barely hear the radio on her morning run into town. She’d popped in after one of her friends suggested bringing it to us — “The lads at Pellon will soon sort it,” she’d told her.

Sure enough, once Dale got it up on the ramp, it didn’t take him long to spot the culprit. The poor little 107 had a badly blowing exhaust system, and it was in a bit of a state. Years of Yorkshire winters, damp roads, and a touch of rust had finally taken their toll. The pipework was corroded almost all the way through — not far off snapping clean in half.

After a quick word with the customer, we explained what needed doing and got her go-ahead. We fitted a shiny new exhaust system, tailpipe and all, and once it was bolted up tight and the engine fired, the difference was like night and day. Gone was that roaring racket — replaced by a nice, gentle hum just as Peugeot intended.

When the lady came to collect her car, she was over the moon. “It sounds like new again!” she said, beaming from ear to ear. And that’s what it’s all about — a quick job, done properly, and another happy Halifax motorist back on the road.

Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

A Bit of Peugeot 107 History: Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

The Peugeot 107 first appeared on UK roads in 2005, part of a clever collaboration between Peugeot, Citroën, and Toyota. The three manufacturers teamed up to produce small, economical city cars that were cheap to run but still fun to drive. The Peugeot 107, Citroën C1, and Toyota Aygo all rolled out of the same factory in the Czech Republic—identical in most areas apart from their badges and front-end styling.

Designed for tight city streets and short journeys, the 107 quickly found its place on British roads. With fuel prices climbing and people looking for smaller, more efficient motors, it became a hit, especially among first-time drivers and commuters. Its little 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine could easily handle hilly roads — even here in Halifax — while delivering impressive fuel economy.

Another big advantage was its reliability. The 107’s engine was simple, with very little to go wrong, and parts were affordable. That’s why you still see plenty of them about today — often driven by the same careful owners who bought them new fifteen or more years ago.

Of course, even reliable little cars like the Peugeot 107 need some TLC. After years of running through road salt, rain, and mud, exhaust systems often corrode and start to leak. It’s one of the most common issues we see on older cars, and the 107 is no exception.

Why Exhausts Matter More Than You Think: Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

A blowing exhaust might seem like just a noisy nuisance, but it can cause bigger problems if ignored. Apart from making the car unpleasant to drive, a damaged exhaust can:

  • Effect fuel efficiency, as the engine can’t breathe properly
  • Lead to MOT failures if emissions are too high or the system is leaking gases

  • Allow fumes to enter the cabin, which can be dangerous for drivers and passengers

That’s why we always say—if your car suddenly sounds like a rally car, pop in and get it checked. Most of the time it’s a straightforward job, and fitting a new exhaust can make a world of difference, just like it did for this little Peugeot.

Pellon Tyres – Keeping Halifax Moving Since 1989: Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

Here at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre, we’ve seen just about everything over the years—from simple exhaust replacements to complex engine jobs. We’ve been looking after local motorists since 1989, helping keep Halifax cars safe, efficient, and roadworthy.

Whether it’s an MOT, a full service, or just a quick exhaust fix, our team takes pride in doing the job right. It’s the small details — like a shiny new exhaust on a trusty Peugeot — that make our day.

So if your car’s started to grumble, rumble, or rattle more than usual, don’t wait for it to get worse. Call into Pellon Tyres on Pellon Lane, Halifax, or visit our website at www.pellontyres.co.uk to book your appointment online. We’ll have you back on the road — and nice and quiet — in no time.

VW Polo Exhausts and Catalytic Converters – Why They Break and Why They Matter

Yesterday, we had a right unlucky customer roll into the garage with a white VW Polo. Poor thing had gone over a rock or summat hard in the road, and the exhaust system had taken the full whack. The catalytic converter was damaged as well – and anyone who’s ever had one replaced knows that’s an expensive bit of kit.

Exhaust systems and catalytic converters might not be the most glamorous parts of your car, but they do a crucial job. The exhaust clears all the burnt gases out of your engine and sends them safely out of the back of your car. The catalytic converter sits in there too, cleaning up harmful emissions so they don’t get pumped into the atmosphere.

But here’s the thing – they’re both slung under the car, so they’re always at risk. A big pothole, a hidden rock, or even a badly placed speed bump can do some real damage. Living in Yorkshire, we’ve all driven down country lanes full of muck and stones. All it takes is a bit of bad luck and a big enough thump, and you can split a pipe or crush your cat (the car’s catalytic converter – not the one on the sofa!).

VW Polo Damaged Catalytic Converter

Common Reasons for Exhaust and Cat Replacement VW Polo Damaged Catalytic Converter

Apart from hitting something in the road, there are a few other common reasons why we end up fitting new exhaust systems or cats for customers:

  • Rust and Corrosion – Our wet weather and salted roads in winter are a nightmare for exhausts. Over time, they rot out, leaving holes or weak spots that blow and rattle.

  • Age and Wear – Even if you avoid bumps and scrapes, exhausts don’t last forever. The constant heating and cooling makes the metal brittle eventually.

  • Failed MOT Emissions Test – If your cat isn’t doing its job properly, you’ll fail the MOT. Sometimes they get clogged up, or the internal honeycomb breaks down, meaning replacement is the only option.

  • Vibration and Loose Fittings – A missing hanger or worn rubber mount can make the whole system swing about, leading to cracks and leaks.

At Pellon Autocentre, we always try to save our customers money where we can. If we can weld a small section or sleeve a broken pipe, we’ll do it. But if the cat itself is cracked or the internal bits are rattling around, there’s no repair – it needs replacing.

A Bit of History About the VW Polo VW Polo Damaged Catalytic Converter

The Polo has been a familiar sight on British roads since the mid-70s. Volkswagen brought it out as a smaller, cheaper brother to the Golf. It quickly became popular because it was tough, reliable, and cheap to run – just what we needed as fuel prices shot up in the late 70s and early 80s.

Over the years, the Polo has grown up a bit. The early models were quite boxy and basic, but by the 90s they’d become a lot more comfortable, with power steering, airbags, and better soundproofing. Today’s Polos are packed with tech, almost as big as the original Golfs, and still one of the best-selling small cars in the UK.

It’s no surprise we see plenty of them through our doors – they’re popular with first-time drivers, young families, and older folk who want something easy to park and cheap to run.

Final Thoughts VW Polo Damaged Catalytic Converter

If you hear a rattle, a blow, or a scraping noise from under your car, don’t ignore it. It might just be a loose heat shield or a clamp, but it could also be something more serious, like a split exhaust or a damaged catalytic converter.

At Pellon Autocentre here in Halifax, we check exhausts and catalytic converters every day, and we’re happy to give free advice if you’re worried. A quick look on the ramp can save you a lot of trouble (and money) later on.

So, look after your Polo, watch out for rocks and potholes, and if you think there’s something not right under your car, give us a call or pop in. We’re always happy to help.

The Story of How Alex Resurrected a Ford Focus at Our Halifax Garage

Eric Roberts Says

Hi there! You’re in for a treat if you enjoy motoring stories or are an enthusiast about cars. Allow me to take you behind the scenes of a recent project that happened in our beautiful Halifax, where the intricacies of car maintenance collide with the rich history of our community.

Since the loss of my dear wife Michelle, I have decided to become more proactive and spend a little more time visiting and blogging about my garage. Just the other day, I turned up with my mobile phone and took some pictures of my staff working on customer cars.

Alex is one of my long-term mechanics, and of course, he is a very experienced mechanic.Today Alex was working on a nice-looking red Ford Focus.

It began with a normal, breezy West Yorkshire morning.

Halifax’s streets were filled with people going about their daily business, and the air was clean. At that point, a Ford Focus drove into our garage. It was bright red and in good condition; indeed, it had the allure that Ford vehicles are known for. The owner, a man from the area, was eager to restore his car’s brakes to their former glory, and Alex is the perfect person to do so.

As some of you may know, Alex is somewhat of an automotive expert. His hands have worked on more customers vehicles than we’ve enjoyed hot dinners, and he has an excellent eye for detail. This Ford Focus required more than just a fast fix—a complete brake refurbishment. We’re talking about new discs and pads—the whole nine!

The procedure was quite careful. Brakes Job on Ford Focus

Alex began by evaluating the state of the old and perished brakes. It’s similar to archaeology; however, he was going through layers of deterioration rather than uncovering artefacts from the past. He discovered that the pads were completely worn out and the discs were far past their best due to years of use. It was obvious that this vehicle had seen some exciting times traversing Halifax’s hilly terrain.

Each of the new discs was spotless and shining. Brakes Job on Ford Focus

Alex fitted them with an accuracy that only came from years of practice. The pads followed, fitting snugly against the discs as though they had always been there. Seeing all the parts come together is a stunning sight, reminiscent of Halifax’s own Piece Hall makeover in that it takes something with history and breathes new life into it.

Now that the new brakes were installed, it was time for the crucial moment. Alex drove the Ford Focus to the end of Pellon Lane for a test drive. I wish you could have seen the smile that says, “It’s a job well done,” when he returned. With our tiny streets and steep inclines in Halifax, the car handled like a dream and stopped on a sixpence—exactly what you need.

Brakes Job on Ford Focus
Brakes Job on Ford Focus
There was more to this project than merely a car repair.

It was about giving someone in our community back a little bit of magic in their daily lives. This type of good workmanship fuels our enthusiasm for what we do at the garage. Every car that leaves our shop, whether it’s a Ford Focus or something else entirely, has a little piece of Halifax in it, which is a testament to the quality and care we stand for.

So keep in mind that Alex and our staff are prepared to work some garage magic on your cherished car the next time you hear a slight squeak or Noisy Car Brakes- from your car. Here in Halifax, we preserve the past by repairing cars one at a time. Be careful when driving!

A Growth Journey: The Story of Halifax’s Pellon Tyre and Autocentre

Eric started a quest in 1989 that would eventually make him a pillar of the Halifax garage scene. The first part of what would eventually become the entire Pellon Tyre and Autocentre was purchased. A man who owned the buildings at the time had to retire soon after due to poor health. This unanticipated chance created the groundwork for a flourishing and well-respected neighbourhood company that has been providing automotive services to Halifax residents for more than 30 years.

In the Beginning: A Little Company with Big Plans

Pellon Autocentre was initially just a little business. The company’s founder, Eric, had a clear vision: to give each and every client that walked through the doors honest, dependable, and knowledgeable service. Long hours, arduous work, and a steadfast commitment to doing the job right were hallmarks of the early days—dedications that would later become associated with the Pellon brand.

The company’s reputation expanded along with its growth. As word got out about Eric and his staff, more and more people in Halifax started to entrust them with their automobiles, whether they needed major mechanical work done or just a new set of tyres. Eric is incredibly appreciative of the Halifax public’s support, which made it possible for the business to grow.

“Pellon Autocentre has become what it is today because of the loyalty and trust of the people of Halifax,” Eric remarked, looking back on these early years. We wouldn’t be here without their help, for which I will always be grateful.

The Development and Growth of Pellon Autocentre

The requirement for additional room increased along with demand. Over the years, Eric gradually acquired the remaining buildings that make up the entire Pellon Autocentre depot. This made it possible for the company to grow and provide a greater range of services to its clientele. The once-tiny section of a building has grown into a fully functional service station, equipped to handle anything from major mechanical repairs and tyre fitting to MOTs and servicing.

The Pellon family expanded as a result of the expansion, and many of these new members are now essential to the center’s success. Eric has always put a high priority on his employees since he understands that their expertise, commitment, and enthusiasm are what keep the company operating efficiently.

Important Persons in Pellon’s Success

Ryan Linton has been a tremendous resource for the company. He works alongside his nephew Dale Linton at Pellon Autocentre, where his technical proficiency and commitment have made him an important role. The Linton family’ combined efforts have played a significant role in upholding Pellon’s reputation for providing excellent customer service. Beyond merely being a technician, Ryan contributes significantly to the team’s daily operations and makes sure that excellence is always the team’s goal.

Not to be outdone, Dale Linton has added his own special talents (MOT tester) and expertise to the company. Because of their professionalism, the two are well-liked by both clients and coworkers, and they keep advancing Pellon Autocenter’s expansion and innovation.

Another important team member who has consistently been at the centre is Debbie Bastow. Her contribution has been crucial to the efficient operation, even though it has been largely behind the scenes. Because of her exceptional organisational skills and thorough knowledge of the industry, Debbie makes sure that everything runs well. Her presence at Pellon Autocentre is greatly appreciated, and her contribution is highly esteemed.

Even if many of the current employees are still crucial to Pellon’s success, it’s important to acknowledge the achievements of the people who are no longer with us. The late Mrs. Michelle Roberts was crucial to the establishment and expansion of the company. Well-known for her steadfast dedication and upbeat demeanour, Michelle was a valued member of the Pellon family rather than just a coworker. Her passing had a significant impact on everyone at the center, but the company’s principles and practices still bear her legacy.

Serving the Halifax Community for More Than 30 Years

Pellon Tyre and Autocentre has established a solid reputation as a locally owned company in addition to providing high-quality services over the years. Halifax is home to Erics Business, his staff, and a plethora of devoted clients in addition to being the location of the company. This sense of community belonging has always been the driving force behind Pellon’s actions.

Pellon’s crew goes above and beyond to guarantee client pleasure, whether it’s assisting a customer with an urgent repair or offering advice on the best winter tyres for the erratic Yorkshire weather. Eric takes great pride in the relationships the company has developed over the years, frequently servicing the same families for generations as they come back time and time again.

Looking Towards the Future-Heartfelt Thanks to the People of Halifax

Eric is enthusiastic about what lies ahead for Pellon Autocentre. The business must adapt to the ever-changing automobile sector. The key to ensure Pellon Autocenterre survives and grows in the years to come will be to extend service options, stay current on training, and invest in new technology.

Eco-friendly activities have received attention, especially with regard to using ecologically friendly items and disposing of tires. Eric and his group are dedicated to contributing to environmental protection and recognise the significance of sustainability.

Meanwhile, Eric is committed to upholding the fundamental principles of honesty, integrity, and first-rate customer service that have helped Pellon Autocentre become what it is today. The company has operated by these guiding principles for almost 30 years, and it will do so going forward.

A Sincere Gratitude to the Halifax Community-Heartfelt Thanks to the People of Halifax

Eric would like to thank the people of Halifax once more for their unwavering support as Pellon Tyre and Autocentre celebrates more than thirty years in business. Eric says, “We’ve come a long way since 1989, but the hard work of our dedicated team and the loyalty of our customers wouldn’t have allowed us to do it.” We are honoured to be a member of the Halifax community and anticipate continuing to be of service to you for a very long time.

For Eric and the staff, Pellon Autocenter is a family that embraces each and every client who enters the building rather than just a place of business. Additionally, the future appears more promising than ever as long as Halifax residents keep putting their faith in Pellon.
