So,our testers Ryan new tester Dale are always Happy. Especially, when a customer trusts them with to carry out work.naturally, or a test on such a Vintage cars visit Pellon Autocentre. We always treat our customer’s cars in such a way. But occasionally we are presented with a unique car that ends up in my Pellon Autocentre blog.

To bring this a little more up to date. Vintage cars and modern classic cars such as the Ford Cortina, do not need to be tested. This came as a directive from the European Union. Thus, after much wheeling and dealing became law here in the UK. The older vintage cars are usually kept immaculate. By their owners. Because of their high value. Many of our customers do have an annual test carried out every year. Therefore, this also keeps up to some insurance company stipulations. Because, the old cars still need to be tested to prove their road worthiness, in my opinion, a great idea.

I only hope that Vintage cars visit Pellon Autocentre will be the same for the so-called modern classic cars. One that springs to mind is the old Morris 1000’s. I was recently asked to look at one with perhaps the intention of buying the car, but when we examined it was just an old rust bucket, but did not officially require a ministry test. These are the type of car that worry me; I think that these cars need some tighter regulation, and I hope it comes from the insurance companies to insist on a test before the car can be insured.

The company Wolseley started in business making sheep shearing equipment and later started to produce cars under the direction of Mr Herbert Austin. The company was bought out by the Vickers group but was then later sold to William Morris in 1927.

By the 1950s Wolseley became part of the BMC team and became one of the premier models in their group, which included Riley and MG cars. The cars were very well fitted out using wood and leather for the interiors; these cars were to become very specialised and are now valuable collectors cars. The cars became part of the new British Leyland company, and production was finished in 1975 a somber day.

MOT testing is carried out at our MOT department of www.mot-halifax.co.uk. We can collect customers cars, or a courtesy car can be booked by appointment. Mot tests are now on special offer at £39.90 quoting “ Wolseley Blog “ as the reference number.

Motorcodes Membership- Give garages a better standard and Excellent Control for consumer satisfaction

Motorcodes Membership

Motorcodes Membership

The UK authorities that regulate garage services and repairs here in the UK.Thus, have at last come up with a better way to control bad practice throughout the UK motor industry. Many systems were implicated in trying to regulate garage services.Including, repairers and car sales outlets for un- lawful practices. But this did not stop dodgy traders from breaking the rules. So and taking their customers to the cleaners.hence,  by not carrying out the correct repairs or not doing the work they were expected to do. Some garages were supposed to conduct garage services, but Motorcodes Membershipnever even touched the car, a complete rip off.

Most people have heard of horror stories. Therefore, the motor industry has had bad press. I personally as an “honest” garage owner do not think this will ever change.I think there will always be dodgy dealers in the motor trade.Consequently, willing to rip people off. Motorcodes will help ease this problem with higher standards set for the garage business.

Over the years many different organisations have come formed trying to regulate the garage trade. But it seems that their members are always joined by the same, ” Good garages“. The majority of garages and car dealers and auto centres are honest and genuine people, who are just out to earn a decent living. Especially in the private sector.

Motorcodes Membership

Most garage owners are very hard working individuals. Thus, who run their businesses honestly. Hence, offering the “local community” an excellent and honest deal on garage services.  One of the first “regulatory bodies” to control garages. Was “Trading Standards”. Garages who joined could attend meetings at a local facilities. Therefore, to discuss ways and means to offer a better garage services, but this did not stop the bad guys, as they only did not join, I think though that this was a move in the right direction.

However due to the recession. Because of the Government cut backs in the nineties. This scheme was scrapped to be, and other private organisation sprung up, These were driven by companies that were also promoting garage services products, such as oils and other engine products, in other words, you had to buy their goods to be in the club. In my opinion, this was not a satisfactory situation, and many of these schemes fell by the wayside.

“Motorcodes Membership” is a better system that helps to create an improved image for the motor trade and garage services, this time, I have a feeling it will be more successful.

To check out your local “MOTORCODES” garage log onto www.motorcodes.co.uk or in West Yorkshire www.pellonautocentre.com

MOT Garages that are removed from MOT testing scheme to be made public

MOT Garages

DVSA have agreed with Ministers to make the information publicly available following the announcement by Justine Greening MP in 2012, of the Governments’ commitment to the Garage Customer Experience.

eric roberts‘s insight:

I as the owner of an MOT Garages testing station,

are not quit sure  what this will achieve. I know that there are thousands of garages who claim that they do MOT testing but in fact do not. What they do is to take the car to an

approved MOT Garages testing station and have what we call”a trade test” carried out.

I am not saying that the car will not be tested correctly, but the test is not carried out by the garage and the car is not in their control. If the driver has an issue then he can not take it up directly with the testing station.

Customers should look out for the official MOT testing sign,

the same as the one in my picture. Some garages have sort of look alike signs, but are not official testing stations.

I can only think that garages who have lost their  license to test cars because of a bad disciplinary record, still carry on taking cars in for testing, but have a trade test done at another official testing station, under the pretense that they still have a testing license, or simply do not remove their MOT Garages signs as if their still testing.

A list of banned testing sites will be published but i wonder who will read them?.

Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and

tyre and Battery business now for 40 years. I have worked for a couple for national tyre companies in my younger days, before starting my first business. I now own a garage and MOT testing centre, here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre, and I am a keen blogger about anything to do with cars and their related products that will help my business. We are members of Point-S and Motor-Codes and are also a Unipart Car Care Centre and of course Tyre-safe.

Proper wheel alignment allows your car to handle properly. It also means that your tires won’t wear out prematurely.

Eric Roberts’ insight:

Spring Service

This year will be no better time to have your car or SUV serviced. The reason why is that here in the South West of England, we have experienced the wettest winter for many years.

The cars have been wading in floods all across the South and especially in the Somerset Wetland’s, an area of England that is bellow sea levels and has been heavily flooded for most of the winter.

In my opinion, it is important now that the flooding has receded, to take you car into a local Car Service centre and have a Spring Service and the Car Brakes checked over.

The most vulnerable parts to suffer from water damage are your cars brakes. Most modern engines are now sealed units and do not have spark plugs and electric coils anymore,

Not just a Spring Service any service will benefit your car

spring service

Catalytic Converters can easily be damaged by flood water

but the water can enter your exhaust pipes and cause damage to the catalytic converter. This may not be detected straight away, but you may end up with your cars engine management light coming on at a later stage, as the water damage shows up in your cars engine management system and particulate filter.

Most things will be picked up when you Spring Service your car, but this is a good time have a spring service as the weather start to improve, as I say especially the cars braking system. Many good Auto-centres now offer a free  brake check here in the UK and if you do not have a garage then you could do no worse that looks up your nearest Unipart Auto-centre, where you know that you will be treated fairly with honest pricing and their work is covered by a nationwide guarantee.

Driving in floods is something that you should avoid (or not)

Driving in floods,Car Tips

Car Tips-With the UK set for a deluge, here’s how to drive safely with floods around (Tips for driving in floods http://t.co/LrOrGkF0Eh)

eric roberts‘s insight:

Car Tips-Stay away from driving your car in the floods

This is a very topical article by MSN cars, due to the bad weather and Driving in floods that have occurred in the South of England and Wales. Fortunately we have missed the worse of the storms here in Yorkshire, where I live and work.

I must say, though it does remind me of a trip that I made to deliver a 12 Volt Battery to a remote farm in North Yorkshire. I had to go because our carriers at the time would not deliver the battery to this area. The sat/nav was switched on and off I went in my Peugeot partner van .

Car Tips,driving in floods

Check your brakes after driving through floods

The day was a nice bright winters day, but the day before we had a massive storm similar to  Driving in floods that were hitting the South of England at the moment. I started to get nearer to my destination and the roads were getting steeper and narrower, similar to a roller coaster ride. I went down a steep hill that went through a forest and round a steep end, where to my shock horror; there was a ford across a river. The river was flowing very fast and at first I did not know what to do as i had not seen any Flood Warnings.

It would have been very difficult to turn round as the road was very narrow, so I decided to go for it. I revved my diesel van and shot across as fast as I could. To my horror the river started to push my van sideways but I just managed to make it to the other side driving as fast i dared. My first thoughts were to try out my brake and luckily everything worked OK. I know how scared I was and so when I see those poor drivers that do not make it to the other side, well it makes me cringe.

I will never attempt to cross another flooded river or road again and when I read the comments in this article I noticed that most of the comments say that the best way is not to try and cross any flooded roads at all, which would also be my advice. I also noticed that some drivers were getting stuck in the larger 4×4 vehicles, please stay away and do not attempt to Driving in floods at any cost.

Car Repair Garages-This is the way forward for car repair garages? ChipsAway in Abingdon puts customers first.

Car Repair Garages

Smart receptions in the car repair garages like this should be the norm in 2013

If your heart sinks every time you know that a trip to the Car Repair Garages for a minor car  repair garages, scuff or dent repair is needed, you’re not alone. (Is this the way forward for car repair garages? ChipsAway in Abingdon puts customers first.

For the car repair garages to survive they must have modern facilities for their customers.Car Repair Garages

This is a point I have been making for the past twenty years at least. The American companies were the first to supply their customers with a reception and waiting room for the car repair garages. This was picked up by Tom Farmer when he visited America and on his return home decided that this was the way forward, and implemented the new style reception areas into his early Kwik-fit empire.

After that Car Repair Garages UK all over the UK began to copy his style of operation, but many of the Auto Repair Services and car repair garages were too small and half of them were just back street dirty places and would not have warranted money spending on them. Altogether though it was a huge improvement and many tyre depots and Car Repair Garages where brought into the twentieth century and were fit for motorists to sit in while their car was been repaired, or their tyres were been fitted.

As time went on more and more ladies were taking up driving and the move to step up the facilities in the car repair garages was imminent. The customers wanted a better experience when visiting the garage or tyre depot for work doing on their cars. The main dealer garages started to introduce courtesy cars, to loan to their customers while work was been carried out on their cars, a good idea!

The courtesy car idea became a little tarnished when some of the garages started to charge for their use, or for insurance. I thought this was a negative affect and was not in the spirit of the idea. We at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre in Halifax UK provide courtesy cars for our customers, mainly because we are about two miles out of the town centre, and it allows our customers to go shopping or to work, while their car is been repaired.

Many of the switched on Car Service Garages offer their clients  a free coffee machine in their reception as well as a TV and up-to-date magazines for their entertainment while they are waiting for a Car Repairs or an MOT or a tyre fitting. In my opinion this is what today’s modern consumer wants, this coupled with the fact that as I have said earlier, many of our customers are now ladies and they do not want to turn up to a dirty old Car repair garages in their nice clean clothes.

So this standard is the way forward and any garage or tyre fitting station that does not have customer facilities will fall behind and eventually perish.
