Winter Tyres Safety-One Of The Best Safety Items You Could Add To Your Car.

Winter Tyres Safety is now taken seriously

This year (here in the UK) we have had what we could call a good Summer, with nice long sunny day’s with a few rainy days scattered here and there. Now we are well into September and the weather is starting to turn colder. We at Pellon Tyres recon that it is the end of October before we start to get the Easterly winds that bring colder weather, (and dare I say it) snow.

The past three or four years have been particularly cold and snowy and not been funny but this is the weather that we in the tyre trade just love, (for obvious reasons?). This year will be no exception, we will be praying for more of the same this winter; it could even be a little harsher in my opinion, “one man’s loss is another man’s gain” as the saying goes.

Winter Tyres Safety

Scenes like this in Sowerby, West Yorkshire caught us all out in March 2013

One of the good things that came out of the bad winters is our concern for Winter Tyres Safety and so we introduced a “TYRE HOTEL” system for our customers to store their winter and summer tyres. We fit the winter tyres in October and November and change them back to their summer tyres in March, although last year it snowed in March, and so we changed most of them in April and May.

Tyre hotel has become very popular for Winter Tyres Safety

We are pleased to say that this will be our third year, operating this system and it has become a very popular Winter Tyres Safety service for our customers. We did not advertise the service and all the new business that we have gained has come from “word of mouth”. This situation pleases me very much, because it is something that we all strive for and is a good way of keeping contact with your customers. The only problem we are starting to have is the lack of storage, we have customers winter tyres stored all over the place?

For tyre dealers who do not have “tyre hotel” facilities, and live in a hilly area where they are likely to have snow fall, then I would recommend that you give it a try. Another advantage that we have is that our customers have no qualms about buying a replacement tyre when they need one. When we point out that the tread is below the legal limit, they simply ask us to replace the tyre, no ringing round or going onto the internet, as long as we charge them at a competitive price and a fair price they are happy to trust us, it is a great way of keeping onto your customers.

We charge £10 for each time that we fit and/or refit a tyre, that’s £40 for the four. We also charge £10 for each tyre stored over the winter/summer period. This charge also includes valve and balancing, but s I say it has proved to be a good way of retaining some of our customers in this very competitive business.

We are now advising our customers that require new ones at the moment, to think about fitting Apollo Winter Tyres, instead of summer tyres and we are

getting a good response from motorists who are now becoming much wiser about the products  and tyre safety and the people that fit winters  have thanked us on many an occasion for our advice and safety of Winter Tyres Safety in bad weather.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Winter is when your battery is likely to fail

In general most car batteries fail in service during cold weather in winter time, There are many problems that could affect your car battery. With new modern cars with all their electrics you will find that the battery will fail you suddenly, this is because of the large amount of electrics that the modern car battery has to handle, including engine management computers.

In the past if were having freezing nights. Therefore, it would take a car battery a couple of weeks to actually fail. Thus, giving the car owner plenty of time to find a replacement battery. Hence, the problem is now the car battery will fail suddenly.Usually, just where you don’t want it to. Especially, when you are out and about. Many of our customers.Who have a flat battery, will call us out. Because they are stuck in some town centre or shopping mall.

Now we say that the battery should be tested. Consequently, before the winter comes. Or at your regular service period. Predominantly, before the onset of Winter. Thus, we always test the battery and report back. Especially, if there is any signs that the battery may fail. Perhaps, in the near future. Most of our clients will respond to this and replace the battery before they get caught out."<yoastmark

Quality Car batteries- And other top tips for driving your CAR in the wet winter conditions

Quality Car batteries; driving the car in winter conditions

One of the most obvious but important parts of winter driving is to prepare  for the bad weather that will be certain to affect us.

Every winter we are bombarded by bad weather, and most of us will get caught out and unprepared for the journey back home from shopping or from work. This happens time and time again to many motorists who get caught out in heavy rain and flooding similar to the weather this week, or a really fast and heavy snow storm. I f you check your car out you will eliminate most of the worry of bad road conditions, and feel safer and glad that you were prepared.Qaulity Car batteries

  • It always pays to have your car checked at a Unipart Car Care Centre for a pre winter check. This takes the form of checking your levels for antifreeze to make sure that it is the correct strength to withstand freezing temperatures, also your screen wash and oil levels must be checked. The early dark nights also call for your lights checking, how many times do you see a car with only one head on, that looks like a motorbike from a distance ?.
  • The most important things to check are your tyres. I know that I harp on about it, but please buy a set of winter tyres, this alone will help you on wet and snow covered winter roads and give you much more confidence when traveling out to work or to the shops. Many more drivers are now switching to winter tyres and are spreading the news to their relations and friends, they really do make a massive difference when driving on roads in winter time.

Check the depth of the water before going through in your car

Other advice now relates to flooding. Flooding has now become a common scene here in the UK. When you approach a flood please take care not take your vehicle  in too deep. Try to avoid the flooded road if possible and if you must go across the water make sure you stop and check your brakes on the other side, a minor point is that water could damage your exhaust pipes and catalytic converter a few weeks later. Another part of the car that is neglected in winter is your car battery. You can easily be caught stranded away from home if your battery lets you down. If your vehicle is over 5 years old it may be better for you to change the battery for a new one before your old battery lets you down. Remember it always happens when you are away from home and will cost you less to replace it , than expensive breakdown charges. if you do have to buy a new battery do make sure that you chose Quality Car batteries. They often come with a better warranty and will last longer

Flat Lawnmower Battery-Winter Time Over again time to Charge Up your Mower Battery?

Flat Lawnmower Battery

check out your Flat Lawnmower Battery it probably won’t  make it after the Winter ?

Another new grass cutting year is upon us. Naturally, it’s spring time again. The temperatures are warming up and the days are starting to get longer. You get home from work and your wife complains that “the lawn needs cutting”. For this reason, the last thing on your mind. Because you wanted to watch the football match.

After dinner, you put on your old gardening clothes. Of course, thinking that you don’t want to loose “browny points”. Hence, just by not cutting the grass. You climb over a mountain of obstacles in your garage to try to get to your forgotten lawn mower. There it is ? , you pull the thing out and check that you have petrol in the can, You have, “not so good your thinking”.

Now for starting it, here goes? A few puffs and bangs and the mower has a Flat Lawnmower Battery, Yes you shout I can watch the match now, I have an excuse.

Flat Lawnmower Battery

Flat Lawnmower Battery-Lucas batteries can be used on all types of lawnmowers

Sorry dear but the lawnmower battery is flat ,ill put it in charge and do it in the morning. You’ve always got an excuse she says and goes to see her sister down the road while you get the bears out and watch the match,”perfect”.

Flat Lawnmower Battery

This is how it goes for most guys, cutting grass is just another chore thrown at us by our partners. Some of us actually like gardening. The gardeners are the ones who take their lawnmower battery off their machine before the Winter comes and charges the Flat Lawnmower Battery up to make sure it makes it through the winter. In my opinion, if the lawnmower battery is old then it should be changed at the beginning of the new grass growing season and is not worth keeping or charging for long periods. Remember though if you throw away the old battery make sure that you write down the numbers and letters so that you can order the exact same size lawnmower battery the next spring.

Your lawnmower battery should be changed about every two years.

If you are like the first guy and do not like gardening then the easiest thing to do is to throw the old Flat Lawnmower Battery away and buy a new one. Your lawnmower battery can be bought online and e-bay carry a good selection, but it is important to write down the numbers and letters on your old lawnmower battery and get the correct one. You will find plenty of good lawnmower battery care advice websites and all are good quality. Many of the standard types of lawnmower now have key starting with a 12 volt 5 amp Lucas battery fitted. These are miles better than using a pull chord and breaking your neck?
