🚗 Keep Your Brakes in Top Condition with Pellon Autocentre

Your brakes are the most important safety system on your car, so it’s vital to keep them in good working order.
Here at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre, Halifax, we’ve been keeping local drivers safe on the roads for decades — repairing, replacing, and servicing brake systems on all makes and models.

If you’ve noticed squealing, grinding, or a soft brake pedal, it’s time to get your brakes checked. Ignoring it can make things worse — and more expensive to fix later.

🧰 Signs Your Brakes Need Attention: Brake Repairs and Replacement – Halifax

It’s not always easy to tell when your brakes are wearing out, but there are a few warning signs to watch for:

  • Squealing or grinding noises when braking

  • Vibrations or shaking through the steering wheel or brake pedal

  • A longer stopping distance or the car pulling to one side

  • Brake warning light appearing on the dashboard

  • Soft or spongy brake pedal that sinks too easily

If you’re unsure, pop down to our garage on Pellon Lane — we’ll happily check them over while you wait.

🔩 What We Check During a Brake Inspection

Our trained technicians carry out a thorough inspection of your complete braking system, including:

  • Brake pads and discs for wear and corrosion

  • Brake hoses and lines for leaks or damage

  • Calipers and wheel cylinders for proper operation

  • Brake fluid level and condition

  • Handbrake (parking brake) adjustment and cable condition

We’ll show you what we find and explain clearly what needs doing — no pressure, no pushy sales talk, just honest advice from a trusted local garage.

🛠️ Professional Brake Repairs and Replacement – Halifax

If your brakes need parts replacing, we only fit high-quality components that meet or exceed original manufacturer standards.
That means:

  • Brake pads that stop cleanly and quietly

  • Discs that resist corrosion and last longer

  • Brake fluid that meets the correct DOT spec for your car

We handle everything from small hatchbacks and family cars to vans and SUVs — all done in-house by our experienced team.

⚙️ Why Regular Brake Servicing Matters: Brake Repairs and Replacement – Halifax

Brakes wear gradually, so you don’t always notice the loss in performance until it’s serious. A quick annual check can save you money and keep you safe.
We recommend checking your brakes at least once a year or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Halifax roads—with their hills and stop-start traffic—can be hard on braking systems, especially in winter. Keeping your brakes in top condition not only protects you but also extends the life of your tyres and suspension.

🧯 Brake Fluid Changes

Your brake fluid is another key part of the system. It absorbs moisture over time, which can cause internal corrosion and reduce braking efficiency.
We recommend a brake fluid change every two years to keep the system working properly.

Our technicians use professional equipment to fully flush and refill the system with fresh fluid, ensuring your brakes feel firm and consistent again.

🧑‍🔧 Local Expertise You Can Rely On: Brake Repairs and Replacement – Halifax

At Pellon Autocentre, our team — including experienced MOT tester Dale Linton — knows exactly what to look for when it comes to brake wear and safety.

Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

Peugeot 107 Back to Its Quiet Best at Pellon Tyres, Halifax

Every day at Pellon Tyres in Halifax brings a surprise or two through the doors, and yesterday was no different. A bright red Peugeot 107 pulled up, catching everyone’s eye straight away. The car looked cheerful enough, but the moment the engine started, it was clear something wasn’t right. You could hear it before you saw it — a proper loud rumble echoing across the forecourt!

The lady who owned the car said it had been getting noisier over the past few weeks, to the point where she could barely hear the radio on her morning run into town. She’d popped in after one of her friends suggested bringing it to us — “The lads at Pellon will soon sort it,” she’d told her.

Sure enough, once Dale got it up on the ramp, it didn’t take him long to spot the culprit. The poor little 107 had a badly blowing exhaust system, and it was in a bit of a state. Years of Yorkshire winters, damp roads, and a touch of rust had finally taken their toll. The pipework was corroded almost all the way through — not far off snapping clean in half.

After a quick word with the customer, we explained what needed doing and got her go-ahead. We fitted a shiny new exhaust system, tailpipe and all, and once it was bolted up tight and the engine fired, the difference was like night and day. Gone was that roaring racket — replaced by a nice, gentle hum just as Peugeot intended.

When the lady came to collect her car, she was over the moon. “It sounds like new again!” she said, beaming from ear to ear. And that’s what it’s all about — a quick job, done properly, and another happy Halifax motorist back on the road.

A Bit of Peugeot 107 History: Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

The Peugeot 107 first appeared on UK roads in 2005, part of a clever collaboration between Peugeot, Citroën, and Toyota. The three manufacturers teamed up to produce small, economical city cars that were cheap to run but still fun to drive. The Peugeot 107, Citroën C1, and Toyota Aygo all rolled out of the same factory in the Czech Republic—identical in most areas apart from their badges and front-end styling.

Designed for tight city streets and short journeys, the 107 quickly found its place on British roads. With fuel prices climbing and people looking for smaller, more efficient motors, it became a hit, especially among first-time drivers and commuters. Its little 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine could easily handle hilly roads — even here in Halifax — while delivering impressive fuel economy.

Another big advantage was its reliability. The 107’s engine was simple, with very little to go wrong, and parts were affordable. That’s why you still see plenty of them about today — often driven by the same careful owners who bought them new fifteen or more years ago.

Of course, even reliable little cars like the Peugeot 107 need some TLC. After years of running through road salt, rain, and mud, exhaust systems often corrode and start to leak. It’s one of the most common issues we see on older cars, and the 107 is no exception.

Why Exhausts Matter More Than You Think: Peugeot-107-Exhaust-Halifax

A blowing exhaust might seem like just a noisy nuisance, but it can cause bigger problems if ignored. Apart from making the car unpleasant to drive, a damaged exhaust can:

  • Effect fuel efficiency, as the engine can’t breathe properly
  • Lead to MOT failures if emissions are too high or the system is leaking gases

  • Allow fumes to enter the cabin, which can be dangerous for drivers and passengers

That’s why we always say—if your car suddenly sounds like a rally car, pop in and get it checked. Most of the time it’s a straightforward job, and fitting a new exhaust can make a world of difference, just like it did for this little Peugeot.

Brake Servicing in the Calderdale Area

Brake Servicing in the Calderdale Area – Including Electric and Hybrid Cars

If there’s one thing you don’t want to take chances with on the roads of Calderdale, it’s your brakes. From the steep climbs out of Hebden Bridge to the winding drops into Sowerby Bridge, your brakes are working overtime. Whether you drive a petrol, diesel, hybrid, or fully electric car, keeping your braking system in top shape is essential for safety — and it could save you a small fortune down the line.

Here at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre in Halifax, we’ve been keeping local drivers safe on these hills for decades, and brake servicing is one of our daily jobs.

Why Regular Brake Servicing Matters: Brake Servicing in the Calderdale Area

Your brakes take a beating — especially around Calderdale’s hilly roads and stop-start town traffic. Over time, brake pads wear down, discs can corrode, and brake fluid absorbs moisture, all of which reduce braking performance.

Many people only think about their brakes when they start to hear a squeal or grinding noise, but regular servicing helps avoid those nasty surprises. Our technicians check:

Brake pads and discs for wear or corrosion

Brake callipers and sliders for sticking or seizing (a common issue in UK weather)

Brake fluid condition – it should be changed roughly every two years

Handbrake or electronic parking brake operation

If you drive up and down Halifax’s hills daily, that constant pressure means your brakes are doing double duty — regular checks are vital for safety.

Electric and Hybrid Car Brakes – What’s Different? Brake Servicing in the Calderdale Area

A lot of people assume electric and hybrid cars barely use their brakes, and while that’s partly true, it’s also what causes other issues!

Most EVs and hybrids use regenerative braking — where the motor helps slow the car and recovers energy for the battery. That means the physical brakes (the pads and discs) are used less often. Sounds great, right?

Well, not entirely. Because they’re used less, the discs and callipers don’t heat up enough to burn off moisture. Over time, that leads to rust and corrosion, especially in our damp Calderdale climate. We often see electric cars come in with seized rear brakes or corroded discs that make horrible grinding noises.

That’s why even electric and hybrid cars still need a proper brake inspection every year — especially before winter. At Pellon Autocentre, our lads are trained and equipped to handle EV and hybrid brake systems, including those with electronic parking brakes and advanced diagnostic systems.

Signs Your Brakes Might Need Attention: Brake Servicing in the Calderdale Area

If you notice any of these, it’s time to pop in for a check:

Squealing or grinding noises

Car pulling to one side under braking

Juddering or vibration when braking

A soft or spongy brake pedal

Warning lights on your dashboard

Don’t ignore them — the longer you wait, the more expensive it can become.

Brake Servicing – How We Do It

At Pellon Tyre and Autocentre, we use quality parts and modern equipment for every brake job. Whether it’s replacing pads, discs, or bleeding the hydraulic system, everything is done to manufacturer standards.

We’ll always give you a full explanation of what needs doing — no surprises, just honest advice. For EVs and hybrids, we check the condition of the regenerative systems and ensure your braking components aren’t seizing due to lack of use.

Our customers appreciate that we don’t just replace parts for the sake of it — if something can be cleaned, freed off, or repaired safely, we’ll do that first.

Local Knowledge, Local Roads- Brake Servicing in the Calderdale Area

Driving around Calderdale brings its own challenges — from the steep climbs up Pellon Lane to the twisting routes around Elland and Brighouse. Having well-maintained brakes gives you confidence and safety on every journey.

That’s why so many local motorists trust Pellon Tyre and Autocentre for their brake servicing and repairs. We’ve built our reputation on honesty, good value, and proper workmanship since 1989.
