Bridgestone Blizzak Winter Tyres- A good Winter Tyres choice to fit most car models

Bridgestone Blizzak Winter Tyres

These are great tyres the Bridgestone Blizzak winter tyres

Bridgestone Blizzak

Bridgestone Blizzak winter for run flats

I must admit that out of all the leading makes of tyres that are developed for winter use, then Bridgestone are not amongst them. I am not sure why this is, because Bridgestone are by sales volume, the largest tyre company in the world. However, we do not see that, in the volume of their Bridgestone Blizzak tyre sales, at least not here in Yorkshire UK.

Ever since I became a manager for one of the large tyre retailers. Here in the UK, I have made an effort. So, to inform my customers about the safety features of this product. I really mean that from the bottom of my heart. Subsequently, it is not just to sell them something. To me it is the safety issues. When a customer comes in to buy summers  in say November. So, then I will make a huge effort to try selling the customer onto winters .

I will try to convince them to fit their winters. Hence, for the whole winter period. Most drivers still do not know. Of course, when the temperature drops to below 7*C. That the tyres rubber compound will become harder and much less flexible, than the winter tyres, primarily because modern winter season tyres have special chemicals added to the compound, including “silica”.

Bridgestone Blizzak Winter Tyres

Less flexible side walls make the summer ones  much stiffer and this makes your car harder to handle in cold weather steering and cornering, as well as braking can become very difficult. Winters  retain their flexibility in the cold climate and also give the driver more confidence, when they realise that the car handles much better in the snow and ice.

Bridgestone Blizzak winter tyres come into this bracket.

Bridgestone Blizzak will perform in all the bad weather that is thrown at you. They are specially engineered with deeper tread depth and a unique tread pattern to cope with the snow and ice. When Bridgestone blizzac winter, come across any snow, slush and ice, they have a  Multi-Cell compound that removes a thin layer water from the treads surface which improves the  grip using millions of microscopic pores.

This special compound also allows the tyre to stay flexible in icy and freezing temperatures. Making sure that the car sticks to the road. Also there are a large number of sipes in the Bridgestone Blizzak tread which is also another property of the tyre to retain the grip in winter conditions. of our snow tyres improves traction in the wet, snow, and ice by increasing the number of biting edges.

Bridgestone Blizzak Winter Tyres

This is the time of year, just before winter bites to think about a new set of winters for your car. One of the tyre products that comes highly recommended is the  Bridgestone Blizzak WS70. I must admit that it was not familiar with me until I have read some good revues about the winters in some of the  press and skiing blogs.

The manufacturer, claim that new technology has gone into their  compound, that includes silica and an enhanced system of microscopic tubes and cells that are covering the normal tread compound which helps the tyre to grip better, even when the tyre wears down . These so called “Nano-tubes”, help the tyre grip into the ice and snow, making this tyre very efficient in all kinds of winter driving conditions.

I am pleased to say that the Bridgestone Blizzak has become very popular in the UK this winter and we at Pellon tyres have experienced an increase in the new tyres sale

Winter will soon be here, check out I am pleased to say that the Bridgestone Blizzak has become very popular in the UK this winter and we at Pellon tyres have experienced an increase in the new tyres sale

Bridgestone Blizzac sales increase here in the UK.

I am pleased to say that the Bridgestone Blizzak has become very popular in the UK. Therefore, this winter we at Pellon tyres have experienced an increase in the new winter tyres sales. Bridge-stone are the World leader. So, we at Pellon are very proud to be a  stockists in Halifax the UK.

For a further review…

“The Bridgestone Blizzak line of winter tires has a long-established and well-deserved reputation for reliability and grip in all winter conditions, and the WS70 is no exception. The successor to the highly regarded Bridgestone Blizzak WS60, the WS70 is clearly an improvement. Although opinions vary somewhat as to its exact placement, the Blizzac WS70 definitely earns a place among the top tier of tires, although the dry-road performance does leave something to be desired”…

Car Tyres Days Gone Bye -Michelin-Dunlop and Goodyear were the Market Leaders in the 1960’s

 Post Updated 22nd Dec 2013/22nd march 2016

Car Tyres Days Gone Bye-My car tyres beginnings

Car Tyres Days Gone Bye-My very first job in the auto trade was as an apprentice mechanic in a small Yorkshire garage. I only spent four years there and after having an argument with my boss we decided to part companies. The best thing to come out of my old job was the fact that I became interested in tyres. Very strange you may think but that’s the truth. I had to repair all the punctures  and fit new ones using a tyre lever, a very difficult thing to do, until I got the knack of it.

Most punctures in those days were to tyre inner tubes. Most  in those days were fitted with tubes and were used right up to the tyre becoming completely bald and beyond. There were no laws in my early days this would come later on in my career.

I was now at home under my mother’s feet looking for, a new job. To my surprise, a vacancy for a  fitter appeared in the local paper. My mother rushed me off to the Briggs Auto-centre centre, within minutes of the advertisement appearing. The then manager a guy called Brian interviewed me and was very impressed that I could take off car wheels and fit and repair them by hand using tyre levers.

I received a polite letter saying that I had got the job. My mother was more pleased than me, because I would be no longer under her feet and she would have my weekly board money coming in again. I started work the week after and soon got settled into the job. I truly loved my new job and settled into my new role as a fitter.

This was to be the begging of my lifetime love for the  industry and was to set me up to run my own business in years to come.

The company was called The Tyre House , a local company soon to be bought out by the ever-expanding Dunlop retail outlet called Brigg’ s. Briggs were a group of  companies and were soon to merge with another group called Marshams , this was later to become National  a wholly owned company of Dunlop .

In those days, the major manufacturers were hell bent on buying out any  distributor to consolidate their share of the market. This was due to the ever increasing market

and I was promoted to office manager for my enthusiasm and it was beginning to get easier promotions in a large company such as Dunlop made at the famous Fort Dunlop tyre factory in Birmingham UK. I eventually left National Tyres and moved to Goodyear owned company in Leeds to try my hand with giant earth mover tyres, but will never forget the friends I met some of whom were friends for life and my first job in the tyre industry.

Whats Rubber- Without rubber latex there would be no tyres?

Whats Rubber

Whats Rubber-Rubber tyres but what is it?

Rubber is one of those everyday things that we take for granted. We all use things made of rubber in our daily lives. In my case, I see large things made of rubber, namely tyres. Most of the Worlds rubber is manufactured from a white runny substance that is extracted from trees in huge rubber plantations that are grown in the tropical regions of the World. The white substance is called Latex and is obtained from the small trees from slits in the bark that allow the latex to run into collecting cups. These cups are then poured into bigger vessels and collected. The collection of the latex is very labour intensive and requires thousands of people to work in the vast forest plantations that stretch for mile after mile covering many acres.

This simple process marks the beginning of making tyres and all other Natural Rubber products. The latex has to move to storage factory facilities very quickly as it soon sets to a solid from its runny liquid form when it is extracted from the trees. The rubber is then split up to be used in separate products.

When the latex is in the process, of being moved. Such as during transportation. An amount of Ammonia is added which stops the latex from setting, before arriving at the factory for processing. When the rubber reaches the plant, it is allowed to set into sheets and is cut to size for shipping. It is often referred to as “Gum Rubber”.

Way, it is necessary to mix the gum rubber with other chemicals.

These are usually sulphur and peroxide or bisphenol. This mixture improves the resistance. Preventing the dough from perishing. This process is known as Vulcanisation. Naturally,  was seen as pioneering work by Charles Goodyear back in 1839. He also used carbon black. Hence, to improve the strength of the rubber mix that is necessary for the manufacturing of rubber tyres. Making tyres is a very complicated process of mixing the right chemicals and always needing and heating the rubber mixture using huge machines and would require another article, but I still think it is amassing how a tyre starts out in a rubber plantation as a white liquid and ends up like a tyre.

Creating rubber in the tyre factory is carried out in several ways. Extrusion is one of the most common methods used this is when the rubber is heated and passed through large rollers to mould the rubber. The rubber is then heated and the forced at high pressure through a small hole this method can produce long strands of rubber. Another method of creating rubber is compression moulding. This is done under heat and pressure, however, this time the rubber is heated in a mould. The rubber is then left to cool in the mould, and the rubber creates a replica of the mould. The final way of which rubber can be moulded is a method of injection moulding. This is achieved by heating rubber again which is then injected into a mould and cooled to create the ultimate product tyres.

Part Worn Tyres Expensive – “You DO NOT SAVE YOU MONEY in the long run”

Post Updated 19th Dec 2013

Part Worn Tyres Expensive-Proof that part worn tyres work out more expensive in the long run

Most tyre experts and motoring organisations are very concerned about the amount of part worn tyres are now fitted here in the UK. The latest motoring organisation to voice their opinion is the very respectful Motorcodes, of which we at Pellon tyres are members (and proud to be so).

These Part Worn Tyres Expensive are generally imported from countries such as Germany, where tyres are generally removed at 3 mil. These Part Worn Tyres Expensive look fine from the outside but there is no saying what Part Worn Tyres Expensivedamage lies under the surface of the tread and could be very dangerous indeed. We are effectively buying old tyres from Germany, the tyres that the Germans throw away as no good any more, I cant believe that we would do such a thing. Part Worn Tyres Expensive also offer a danger to other motorists on the road, they put other drivers at risk because people think they are saving money.

In 1994 part worn tyres came under a law called the “Motor Vehicle Tyres Safety Regulations”, these regulations were to ensure that part worn tyres were properly tested and labelled as such, if people buy tyres that have been tested then this is deemed as ok and suitable for the use on roads, but the Part Worn Tyres Expensive we have come across do not appear to have any checks on them and no label. All part worn tyres must be labelled as such. They must have the words ‘PART- WORN’ marked in capital letters. This must be permanent and legible. (I think this is to give other road users the chance to get out of the way

Many more part worn tyres are now sold because of the economic recession. A recent excellent survey regarding how cheap a part worn tyre really is has been studied and written by a tyre industry expert Stuart Carr. I have posted a link to Stuarts blog and I hope you will click to see that

part worn tyres cost “MORE” than new tyres in the long run in real terms

To finalise any garage that are in Motorcodes will not endorse the sale of part worn tyres.         Click this link for an excellent blog

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres-Excellent for Puncture free Plant Hire vehicles.

Tokyo Motorshow unveils the new Bridgestone Air Free Tyres

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres-A brand new concept. Has appeared at the Toyota Motor  Show, Thus, a brand new tyre that does not need any air the Airless Tyre . The new tyre is made of totally different materials.Especially, to the  conventional tyres made of rubber compounds.

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres-new Bridgestone concept tyre and wheel in one

For this reason, they are  made up of Thermo- plastic resins.Hence, this material is very flexible with great durability and is 100% recyclable.

The tyre (if we should call it that) will be free of punctures.Naturally, the run flat concept could be a thing of the past .

Although at this stage I am not sure. Therefore, to the extent that this product has been tested. My own theory. Is that it will be used for tripping around towns on little “green” energy saving cars. Michelin has also developed a similar concept tyres. Thus, called the Tweel as shown in the image.

Bridgestone tyres claim that the new resin that makes the tyres can be melted down and made into new tyres, therefore making the new product much less wasteful than the standard rubber tyres . Another great advantage is that the vehicle that has the tyres fitted will not have to carry a spare, the design means that the tyre can not be punctured,

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres

another great feature by Bridgestone tyres.

Bridgestone tyres are a great innovative tyre company and I admire their attempts to make a better World.  Eric Roberts.

I think that this new design fits well into the need for change that allows this product to fit into a greener and environmental friendly World, but I don’t think it will be the end all of all our problems produced by the rubber tyre, but it is a good start, it will also put people out of work in the service industry, but we will have a cleaner Planet. Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems- TPMS systems will be fitted to most makes of cars in the future.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems

Tyre pressure monitoring systems will be the “Norm” for all cars

Electric Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems are fitted to many car models now. They warn the car driver when a tyre is deflating or flat. Thus, through a warning light on the cars dashboard. Check this link for further information

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems

Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems; typical TPMS display

These devices are excellent and  save you money in the long run. The system ensures the driver that the tyres are correctly inflated . Thus, then you will find that they will wear much better. Therefore, many cars on our roads are driving about with ones that are very much under pressure, this causes them to wear badly and the car not to handle correctly in cornering and braking.

Also, a partly pressurised tyre is more subset able to picking up a nail or other object and causing a puncture or even a blow-out. On the other hand, yours may be over inflated causing the vehicle to roll about when travelling and also creating premature tyre wear due to the over inflation. Picked up with a Wireless Tyre Pressure Monitoring System fitted to your car.

Correctly inflated tyres.Hence, will also save you costs on your fuel bill. Thus, called “rolling resistance”. Because when your wheels are correct. Then you can save as much as 25% on your fuel bills. So any gadget such as a Tyre Pressure Monitors a tyre monitoring device is well worth it.

Tyre pressure monitoring systems can save your life

To sum this up. The system also ensures that you get better mileage out of your tyres and the vehicle uses less fuel and is, therefore, more economical to run.,-Trucks-and-Buses&id=2498053

The car was bought for the Lady of the house. For this reason, was restored by a West Yorkshire restoration company.Run by the owner and his son John Horsfield The company carry out fantastic restoration jobs. The “LANCHESTER” was designed by Mr George Lanchester. Who created an upmarket version of the” BSA ten” from around 1933. They also developed a model of car known as theRoadrider”. Before the beginning of the second World War. Lanchester was later bought out by “BSA”. Hence, the owners of Daimler and the Lanchesters were made to take second place to the new Daimler models. Sadly in 1956. Because the last model of the Lanchester known as the sprite was phased out.

The original holding company were facing financial difficulties. The bank called in the companies overdraft. Thus, calling for an immediate seizure of the companies assets. Lanchester cars were then produced at the BSA factory in Sparkbrook a (suburb of Birmingham), and because of this deal was struck to sell the Lanchester business to “BSA”. Check your Car Tyres regularly-Some Care Information and don’t forget your vans

Check your Car Tyres regularly; must be checked every week

You should Check your Car Tyres regularly,  on your vehicle including  vans at least once a week. You must look for uneven  wear, this is usually the first sign of a problem with your steering geometry and could

Check your Car Tyres regularly

car having the wheel alignment corrected

even indicate a major issue with the cars steering and, or suspension.

If you notice that the tyres are wearing off on one side, it is important that you have your wheel alignment checked and adjusted. Some cars nowadays have Four-Wheel Alignment, this means that the cars rear as well as front wheels may need changing, this is particularly common for the modern SUV type vehicles and 4x4s. This regular visual checking will also save you money as a new boot for these kinds of vehicles will cost you well over £120 these days and the prices are still rising.

Check your Car Tyres regularly

One of 4 badly worn out

Most lady customers and indeed male customers can call into a local, reputable tyre dealer and have a free inspection by one of the staff. There are no excuses for driving your car fitted with bald pieces of rubber that look like racing slicks on a grand-Prix car.

Another way that you may about a tyres problem is if your vehicle tends to pull the left or right.

The car steering wheel feels “out of line” and the car pulls to one side or the other.  This is why you should have your tracking (wheel alignment) checked out. Naturally, after you have had new tyres fitted. Customers do not understand the amount of hard work that a tyre does. Therefore, and how much punishment that tyres have to take. To when zooming down the motorway at 80 miles an hour, so you see why its so important to Check your Car Tyres regularly, they are the only things between you the road and an accident.

I have worked for a couple for national tyre companies in my younger days, before starting my first business. I now own a garage and MOT testing centre, here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre, and I am a keen blogger about anything to do with cars and their related products that will help my business. Simple Car Brakes- How They Work and some of their associated problems?

A short explanation to learn about a simple car brakes system

In this small article. I will give a little incite into the workings of the average family Simple Car Brakes system.

The first component in Simple Car Brakes is the brake pedal. This is what you press to stop your vehicle. Brake pedals are made of very sturdy steel and work on the principle of a lever. Thus, when the car brake is Simple Car Brakespressed the pedal transmits the force from your foot. Therefore, pressing the pedal to a part called the” Master Cylinder”.The pedal also has an electric switch that operates the brake lights. Because when the car brake is pressed the brake light comes on at the rear of the car.

When you press the pedal this transfers force to the master cylinder. Thus via a push-rod, master cylinders are storage reservoirs for brake fluid and also contain a piston. These piston compressors the brake fluid to the rest of the car brakes system via the brake pipes.

Brake pressure is then transferred from the master cylinder to the brake callipers Also the wheel cylinders, located on each corner of the car. hence, where the wheel fits onto. In this day and age, most cars have disc brakes on all four wheels, but older cars with Simple Car Brakes have drum brakes on the rear wheels.

Simple Car Brakes

Disc brakes are more efficient than drum brakes. The pressure from the master cylinder is then transferred to a piston in the brake callipers. This pressure then applies force from the calliper. Then to the brake pads against the brake discs. Therefore, stopping the car.

Car brake pads are crucial and should be checked and changed if they are well worn at regular intervals. Pads are made to withstand lots of heat and pressure to cope with the speed and stopping distances of the modern car.

Brake pads are made of metal and an organic compound to deal with the heat and pressure. At one-time brake pads were made of asbestos, but this was banned for “health and safety” reasons.

Car brake drums and discs are usually made of high strength steel or cast iron, these too must be checked for wear at regular intervals, and can warp in time giving bad vibrations

Simple Car BrakesSimple Car Brakes; poorWorn out brakes Discs and pads ready to be replaced

reduce braking. It is always wise to ask your garage to check and change your discs and pads together.

To sum up brakes are better left to the professionals and should be checked out at every service interval.

Your car brakes efficiency is checked at every MOT, but as yet the test does not include a visual inspection, it is wise that you have this done.

Many of our customers do not know that they have a brake problem. Until they hear a very loud grinding noise. By this time much damage will have been done. Therefore, it is always better as stated earlier to have your brakes checked at regular intervals. Making sure that the parts that are fitted are quality parts. At a reputable garage or service centre. You can have your brakes checked in the Halifax area by and use Unipart car brake parts.

Michelin Tyres Dominant at “Renault Event” at Silverstone Race Track

Michelin Tyres Dominant

Michelin Tyres Dominant; Renault cars use Michelin tyres

Dave Smith of Pellon Tyres in Halifax West Yorkshire enjoyed a great day out at the Silverstone race track on Sunday. Dave took along his two children because although the car racing was good, there was also a funfair and plenty of good eating places. Dave also took a few pictures for the Pellonautocentre blog, (a splendid idea, ).I thought.

Michelin takes a significant part in the Renault event.  Mainly I think because they are both French companies. It still shows though that the most well-known tyre company in the World still take part in many events. In the past have made them one of the best tyre products on today’s cars both production cars and racing cars tyres. I still can not praise them enough, in my early days of been a tyre dealer I hated Michelin tyres because their business plans never included the small guys.

Michelin Tyres Dominant; The parents of the modern tyre

All their efforts went to selling the tyre products to larger companies, however over the years I have slowly grown to like and indeed admire the enormous effort and resources that they have put in to help develop today’s modern tyres. We at Pellon sell Michelin tyres at competitive prices online at

Michelin racing tyres are dipping their feet in the world of motorsport again, by supplying tyres to other types of racing, including the FE Championships, which are, of course, the F1 version using electric cars.

“Michelin is back as the official tire supplier in the STCC. Four classes will compete on the deck from the French manufacturer Michelin 2015 and will supply four levels in the STCC package. Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia goes alongside the sister class Swedish GT formula car class Formula Renault 1.6 and the main class STCC”, said a spokesman for the Scandinavian championship.
