Tyre Safes New Campaign

Goodyear tyres award-All started With Charles Goodyear in the USA.

All started by Charles Goodyear in the USA.

Accordingly, Goodyear Tyre Company had its seeds with Inventor Charles Goodyear in 1834. Charles first invented a tyre valve ! But was unable to impress any other business with his invention. Subsequently, he could not get financial backing. Goodyear tried for many years to transform the smelly gum that came from Brazil. Of course, into any kind of rubber product. Significantly, Charles desperately needed a new type of powder ! That would soak up the wetness of the rubber.

He was getting very desperate and one day bumped into a boyhood friend . Who had a small amount of capital to invest in Goodyear’s experiments. So, he started using magnesium as a drying agent. For the rubber and with the help of his family made hundreds of pairs of waterproof overshoes; I suppose they were similar to the ones that we get today for gardening. The problem came with the summer heat, before he could put them on the market and sell them; the whole lot melted because of the heat, the family were devastated.

Undeterred he carried on with his experiments

Naturally, started to add quicklime and magnesium and also boiling the mixture. Of course, his endeavors were getting closer and closer to the rubber that he wanted. Charles was then making rubber ornaments and started to paint them and decorate them in any way he could. One day he was trying to clean the paint of one of his pieces with nitric acid and later discovered that the acid had affected the rubber making it turn black and smoother, this was the best rubber he had ever made.

After several more years of failure and wasted backers money Goodyear was no further on. He couldn’t get the process of “vulcanisation” and all his work kept melting in the heat. Goodyear tyres awardCharles became destitute and for the next years suffered many setbacks in his life.

He carried on with his experiments and finally achieved his best result when he applied steam, under pressure for up to six hours at a temperature of  about 270 degrees F. This was his best rubber mix yet and his wealthy brother in law became interested in Goodyear tyres award product to use in his textile mills making shirts using the rubber on the ruffles made for “dandies”. This sparked off a great demand for rubber products.

At the time Goodyear could have become a millionaire, but he was still more interested in making other products from his new found invention. Rubber was to become what plastic is today. Go0dyear eventually died in 1860 in poverty, but later the loyalties from his rubber products kept his family in relative comfort…More Reading… http://www.goodyear.com/corporate/history/history_story.html

Charles Goodyear not related to the Goodyear tyres and rubber company.

The Goodyear Car Tyres company had nothing to do with Charles Goodyear but continued to grow into one of the largest tyre companies in the world. The rubber industry will be employing over 300,000 people in the USA alone.

Goodyear tyres award in my opinion is truly a great company and has received many honours in its time for product innovation creating over 324 inventions between 2010 and 2012. Because of this they have been awarded the prestigious accolade of being one of the top innovators, by Thomson Reuters…http://thomsonreuters.com/. Truly a worthy tribute to a great tyre company.

Goodyear Car Racing tyres create a new compound for NASCAR at Kansas City

Goodyear Car Racing

Goodyear tyres have always been involved in motor sport. The whole time that i have been in tyres has been spent following  progress in the World of motor sport, back in the days of  rally tyres winning everything they could, to the days when they supported F1 cars.

Goodyear Car Racing. Of course, developed this new compound tyre .Trying it out on the Atlanta race track. Consequently, over a month ago. As a result, the  track that was raced on was in Atlanta. Using  an old track and most of the tracks surface was old and worn out.

The track at Kansas. Thus, was only re-surfaced a year ago and is consequently very smooth.

“Has been difficult for manufacturer  to meet the demand at a track like Atlanta Motor Speedway without sacrificing reliability. But Goodyear Car Racing has taken steps to address both issues with a new “zone tread” technology. Which will be used for the first time . Hence, at this weekend’s race in Atlanta”…

Goodyear Aquatred- Wet Weather tyres that combated Aquaplaning

Goodyear Aquatred

Original Goodyear aquatred lost grip as the tyre wore down

So, in 1991 Goodyear tyres took the tyre world by storm. Of course, by introducing the “Goodyear Ultragrip GW3”. Chiefly, this tyre was to combat the problem of aquaplaning. This  was designed to disperse the layer of water that builds up between the tread and the wet road surface. So, making motoring in the wet much safer than it had previously been.

The first tyres were good when their tread was new. But as the tread wore down, then the centre groove “that was a major part of the  design”. Hence, lost its depth, thus not allowing the water to get away as quickly. Meaning, that the tyre became less responsive as it wore down in wet weather.

To combat this Goodyear Aquatred tyres were modified by design

GOODYEAR AQUATRED

Goodyear aquatred

Goodyear tyres  recognised

Of course they knew that they had a problem with the new tyre. Notably, they brought out the “Goodyear Aquatred 2 “ tyre. This tyre was re-designed and was brought out with a harder compound. Solving the problem of the tyres wearing quickly.

So, the new tread compound was enhanced by the inclusion of a wider and deeper band. Of course, down the centre of the tread pattern. Of course, the new tyre also had a modified shoulder.Aiming the tyre at the family saloons and were available from 13 to 15 ins tyre sizes.

To be sure, the Goodyear aquatred had many advantages over the normal summer tyres. It was far superior in braking and accelerating whilst driving in wet conditions at fast speeds. The tyre was very suitable for very wet countries such as us in Britain and became very popular.

The tyre was a great success in Northern Europe

Because of its performance in the wet weather. Then in my opinion, became a safer place.Because of the extra safety features that this tyre brought to us. The tyre was also very quite to ride on although it had a very heavy tread pattern compared to other standard tyres. Millions of people liked the new security that the tyre offered, and although not a cheap tyre it sold very well, giving families piece of mind, especially in wet weather, the kind of weather that we are experiencing at the moment, very heavy rain with flooding. They were also good in snow and ice conditions, and were originally going to be launched to coincide with the Winter Olympics .

Goodyear aquatred brought out No 3 in 2000

The concept of a directional tyre that dispersed water at a fast rate continued with the advance of the Goodyear aquatred 3 tyres. This tyre was not much different to its predecessor. It had more refined noise levels and better grip, but by then other tyre companies were bringing out tyres of similar design and the Goodyear aquatred family just drifted away and Goodyear Car Tyres took another path in its tyre development program.
