Of course, winter tyres are made of different compounds and operate at much lower temperature. So, to rectify this, most tyre makers now include silica in their compounds. Thus enabling the winter tyres to operate at much lower temperatures. So retaining their suppleness in adverse conditions.

Consequently, even the Best Summer Tyres become hard like plastic, making the tyres loose their elasticity and therefore grip. Therefore, some tyre makers such as Toyo of Japan have tried adding grit to their compounds. Helping to create safer Snow Tyres.

Winter tyres have also different tread patterns these are usually more of a block pattern. Including, larger centre groves to dissipate the water and slush. On the positive side, the blocks give you more surface. Of course, they do not clog up with snow, due to the spaces between the blocks.

Most importantly, winter tyres also have many tiny slits known as sipes. Sipes also help to dissipate the slush and water that can clog up your tyres.Difference between winter tyres-summer tyres

Winter tyres have now become much more sophisticated .

Companies like Vredestein and Nokian produce some of the Best Cheap Winter Car Tyres a Dutch tyre company now owned by Apollo tyres from India, have made winter tyres to a very high standard . This was necessary to comply with other European countries that witnessed snow every winter and the need for say a German motorist to be able to drive his BMW at great speed down the Autobahn to go skiing in Austria or Switzerland on the same tyre.

Difference between winter tyres-summer tyres Winter Tyres  technology advanced in leaps and bounds.

Silica was added to able the rubber compounds to become much more flexible at lower temperatures. This advance is now used by most of the leading tyre companies.  This combined with computer enhanced tread design has enabled manufacturers to produce a winter tyre. The tyres are now silent on motorways yet very effective in heavy rain, snow and ice. Snow tyres, in my opinion are one of the greatest advances for the motorist of our time. They are a great contribution to road safety. All vehicle owners should consider buying them. This is especially when buying them at the right time. This is  before the price doubles again or indeed before supplies run out. Winter tyres are available online at www.pellonautocentre.com at internet prices.

 eric roberts‘s insight:

Falken tyres sign up with Tyresafe

Of course, this is good news for the Tyresafe organisation . So, as they strive forward in their drive to make Britain a safer place. Hence, by giving advice and safety information to educate. Thus, the motorists in their quest for safer tyres . Including the need to check your tyres and tyre pressures at regular intervals.

Tyresafes campaigns are beneficial to the members. Enabling them to participate in any tyre and road safety events. Coming from Tyresafe as the year goes on. Falken tyres, like many other companies do will be able to tie their own campaigns. Consequently, with the ones from Tyresafe. Making a coordinated attack on the public about tyre safety and part worn tyres.

Tyresafe have enrolled all types of companies from the tyre trade including Falken Tyres

From single depot businesses like my own company. So, to the giant tyre manufacturers such as Falken tyres from Japan. Tyresafe was originally founded in 2006 and in that period road related deaths resulting in tyre related accidents have fallen by 30%, a great achievement from the Tyresafe safety campaigns across the years.

In fact Tyresafe have now been able to attract other types of organisations and not just garages and tyre outlets, but such people as car manufacturers and local councils along with the emergency services have now joined the cause.

The Falken tyres director that is charge of Ireland and the UK recently explained that tyre safety was at the core of all that the Falken tyres company stood for and firmly believes that activities such as the tyre safety study that was recently carried out a t a primary school had made a real positive difference to society and this combined with the tyre safety objectives in the future will be beneficial to both companies, which is exactly my own sentiments and the reason why my own company joined Tyresafe.

Goodyear G800+S Tyres-advert from 1977 and up to date tyre developments

Goodyear G800+S Tyres

Goodyear G800+S Tyres

Goodyear G800+S Tyres steel radial would have been one of the first tyres to compete with Michelin tyres

for steel belted radial tyres that give the driver a good mileage and also good grip in the wet. Goodyear did have some teething problems when the Goodyear G800+S Tyres first came out. The steel belts were not protected against oxidizing correctly with non corroding metals such as copper or brass as the Michelin tyres had perfected this procedure and were having no such problems. This was eventually corrected, I think with the help of Michelin and the Goodyear G800+S Tyres became a very popular tyre and was sold mainly through the Tyreservices outlets simply because Goodyear owned them.    This tyre was evolved with Goodyear’s Grand Prix racing tyres playing a part in the Goodyear G800+S Tyres development. This is now common place amongst today’s tyre companies with Bridgestone tyres of Japan been the latest to be involved in F! racing.

Since this post was written Goodyear and Dunlop have joined forces and become one large company. Goodyear like many of the large tyre companies are constantly coming out with new tyre products each one slightly better than the next,(so they say).

The latest tyres to come out are the Efficient grip range of summer tyres. These tyres are a range of fuel saving tyres due to modern construction and compound mixes. The Vectra 4 Seasons is their latest all-weather tyres and the winter tyre range is made up of eight different Ultragrip tread designs.

Goodyear like other leading tyre companies have also come out with a Run Flat tyre.

As one of the founder tyre companies every one of Goodyear’s tyres have  more than a hundred years of safety-driven research and development behind them. Goodyear state that they are  committed to making drivers feel good, through products that are safer, longer lasting and better for the environment.

With Goodyear G800+S Tyres, you get a great  performance and peace of mind as standard.

Quality Yokohama winters- Yokohama winter tyres are available from Pellon Tyres in Halifax UK

Quality Yokohama winters

Quality Yokohama winters for real tough weather

As I look out of my office window at the snow falling . Therefore, I can not help but feel a certain amount of pride. Proud at the fact that I have sold hundred of Quality Yokohama winters. In fact, probably thousands oQuality Yokohama winters

winters. Hence, to my customers over the past few years.

For this reason, I know that the people who have bought these tyres. Will be safer when driving through the snow and ice. Here in Calderdale and Halifax we have a mixture of valleys and steep hills. Thus, making it very difficult to travel in bad weather, snow, ice and heavy rain. (we have a large amount of flooding during heavy rain) making driving with winters  much safer as they get rid of the water much faster than summer tyres, making driving much safer.

Now because of the ability to ship all around the World at speed, it is possible for us to buy many different brands of winters . One of these brands is a well known make called Yokohama tyres from Japan. We here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax, UK were able to start buying from Quality Yokohama winters when we were privileged to be able to join a nationwide tyre group called Point-S.

Point-S enables to buy direct from tyre manufacturers such as Continental tyres, Firestone, Avon tyre,Quality Yokohama winters  and many more including the top tyre company Michelin .

Introduced us to Yokohama winter tyres

One of the great benefits this brought to us was the introduction to Yokohama winters . We bought our first ones in October 2012 and sold out four times. We were surprised to learn of how many of the public had heard of Yokohama tyres. The thing that does stand out about this product though, is how deeply involved Yokohama are into motor sport. They are involved with a multitude of motor racing events, this includes the prestigious FIA World Touring Car

Quality Yokohama winters

Quality Yokohama winters cope with conditions like this.

Championship(WTCC).The racing kicks off in 2013 on 24th March at Monza in Italy and I cannot wait to the report the events in my blog and with a bit of luck I may be able to visit a race and take some real time pictures.

So to get back to my point Yokohama tyres make a mean winter tyre and we are now able to sell this product to our customers in Calderdale and Halifax. I know from reports back to me that my customers are highly delighted with the winter tyres performance in the early cold spell we had here in the north of England which included a fair amount of snow, unfortunately the weather turned mild again, but we are now into our second cold snap and are selling winter tyres again, remember it is becoming popular to keep the winter tyres on your car all year round, because we now seam to be in a spell of wet summers and winter tyres get rid of the water at a faster rate when driving at 80mph on a motorway in torrential rain.

Worth Fitting Winter Tyres- Which winter tyres would you choose?

Post Updated 10th Nov 2014

Any winter tyres its Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

This is a question that I am always asked. If I told the truth as a  retailers  I would switch you on to the winters because they are far safer in bad weather driving, their is nothing more to it.

Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

Bridgestone Blizzak winters an excellent choice Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

It is worth Worth Fitting Winter Tyres in these days of heavy traffic on our roads. This is the answer I usually give. I tell them that the best winters  for them are the ones that they can afford and if they need any new ones  at the beginning of winter then they should buy winters  and then they can keep them on the rest of the time if say they can’t afford another set of summers, in my opinion it is Worth Fitting Winter Tyres they are much safer and would be more value for your money if you require new ones just before the bad weather comes along.

We try to have an open mind about what make of winters  to keep in stock, and I always go for a budget brand because this keeps the price lower for the customers, and makes them more affordable for our customers who are on a lower budget, but appreciate the safety aspects of this product. For this purpose I always keep in something like a Apollo, we also try to source other tyre makes such as Avon or this year we have had some good deals from Yokohama of Japan.

Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

hundred of winter tyres in stock

An interesting fact that persuaded me to go down this line is the fact that re-manufactured tyres are used on many of the large truck fleets in the world, and most of all major Airlines also use this type  on their planes, a great indictment for this product.

Some of our customers ask for recommendations as to what winter tyres are best for their specific cars, such as this letter to the “Honest John” web site. He recommends that they buy a spare set of wheels with winter’s fitted, to me this is the best option, than you can change your wheels to winter tyres from say November to March and drive with safety.

My wife and I have just bought a 2010 Ford Focus 1.8 petrol. It will be used as our general workhorse during the summer, but will also be used to take us to our winter home in the French Alps. While there it will be kept in an underground car park, but used occasionally for shopping trips to the valley below. As we intend to keep the car for many years, we are thinking of buying a spare set of wheels and winter tyres and my query concerns sizes. At the moment the car has 205/50 R17 tyres and the alloy wheels are fastened with five studs. Would it be possible to buy 16-inch wheels for the winter tyres and, if so, which tyres should we buy?”… http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/caradvice/honestjohn/9555525/Which-winter-tyres-for-Ford-Focus.html

Nissan Figaro Cars-Getting More Popular-Only 20,000 made

Nissan Figaro Cars

Nissan Figaro Cars; All imported cars from Japan

We all must have all seen these tidy little mainly green cars. Hence, driving around our roads in the last year or two. At first, I thought they were some sort of old Renault’s.Accordingly, I found out what they were. When I called into a garage that buy tyres from. Thus, in Oxenhope West Yorkshire UK.

The car was in for an MOT Test and was on their ramp awaiting inspection. I was really pleased that I could now discover what the vehicle was. Hence, it was a Nissan Figaro. This car was first introduced in Japan at the 1989 Tokyo motor show. As a result, was based on the Nissan Micra. The car only came out in four colours, Topaz Mist, Pale Aqua, Lapis Grey and Emerald Green. To date, I have only seen the Emerald Green cars here in Yorkshire.

At first, the car came under a special project name as “back to the future” at a special place is known as the Pike factory and at first, only 2000 were produced in Topaz Mist and these cars were extremely rare. The final production reached about 20,000 cars which by today’s standards is a very small amount of cars indeed. At first, the cars were entered in a kind of lottery and the winners were able to buy one, sounds like a good idea to me, wish I could do that with my tyres ?.

Specialist dealers now sell these cult cars

Nissan Figaro Cars

Nissan Figaro for MOT Test

These Nissan Figaro Cars do not carry the Nissan Dealers name but display the type “Figaro”and are rapidly becoming the car to have, they have very clean looks and one can be seen at the beginning of TVs “The Andrew Marr Show”. They were designed by a Japanese designer Shoji Takahashi who later won a design award for his design. An excellent  owners club has now been launched with an extract from their website.

“The only visible Nissan badge is in the shape of a fleur de lys on the bonnet and the car itself appears to date from the late 1950s or early 1960s – it’s all curves and chrome (the lighting units, the grille, the bumpers, hinges, handles) and is finished off with elliptical white wing mirrors (rather like the ones later used in the design of the ‘new’ Mini Cooper). The Nissan Figaro Cars is a convertible, with a sliding soft-top that folds neatly into the trunk so as not to spoil the natural lines of the vehicle. Even the hubcaps are distinctive – white and chrome and reminiscent of Polo mints”...http://www.figaroownersclub.co.uk/#/about-the-figaro/4529781952
