Post Updated 10th Nov 2014

Any winter tyres its Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

This is a question that I am always asked. If I told the truth as a  retailers  I would switch you on to the winters because they are far safer in bad weather driving, their is nothing more to it.

Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

Bridgestone Blizzak winters an excellent choice Worth Fitting Winter Tyres

It is worth Worth Fitting Winter Tyres in these days of heavy traffic on our roads. This is the answer I usually give. I tell them that the best winters  for them are the ones that they can afford and if they need any new ones  at the beginning of winter then they should buy winters  and then they can keep them on the rest of the time if say they can’t afford another set of summers, in my opinion it is Worth Fitting Winter Tyres they are much safer and would be more value for your money if you require new ones just before the bad weather comes along.

We try to have an open mind about what make of winters  to keep in stock, and I always go for a budget brand because this keeps the price lower for the customers, and makes them more affordable for our customers who are on a lower budget, but appreciate the safety aspects of this product. For this purpose I always keep in something like a Apollo, we also try to source other tyre makes such as Avon or this year we have had some good deals from Yokohama of Japan.

An interesting fact that persuaded me to go down this line is the fact that re-manufactured tyres are used on many of the large truck fleets in the world, and most of all major Airlines also use this type  on their planes, a great indictment for this product.

Some of our customers ask for recommendations as to what winter tyres are best for their specific cars, such as this letter to the “Honest John” web site. He recommends that they buy a spare set of wheels with winter’s fitted, to me this is the best option, than you can change your wheels to winter tyres from say November to March and drive with safety.

My wife and I have just bought a 2010 Ford Focus 1.8 petrol. It will be used as our general workhorse during the summer, but will also be used to take us to our winter home in the French Alps. While there it will be kept in an underground car park, but used occasionally for shopping trips to the valley below. As we intend to keep the car for many years, we are thinking of buying a spare set of wheels and winter tyres and my query concerns sizes. At the moment the car has 205/50 R17 tyres and the alloy wheels are fastened with five studs. Would it be possible to buy 16-inch wheels for the winter tyres and, if so, which tyres should we buy?”… http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/caradvice/honestjohn/9555525/Which-winter-tyres-for-Ford-Focus.html

Winter Tyres Europe-To Become “LAW” in Some European Countries

Winter Tyres Europe

Winter Tyres Europe; great news for the tyre makers

Great news for the tyre industry in Europe.Subsequently, when Luxembourg announced that it would become law to fit Winter Tyres. Therefore, during the winter season. As a result, this was great news for the tyre companies. This means also that anyone travelling through the country should also be fitted with winter tyres.Consequently, we have been hammering on for years .About the extra safety and benefits that winter tyres bring. Thus,to our roads. In my opinion, this is a great move forward for the EU country. Moreover, and may encourage other European countries to go down the same road.

Winter Tyres Europe

winter tyres may become law on all of Europe’s roads

Other countries. For instance, are thinking about going down the road. Also, of winter tyres. These are Belgium,Turkey and Poland. More good news for tyre companies.Of course, is that the European Union. Are also considering the use of winter tyres.Throughout all the member states.Indeed, this will be a great boost to all tyre companies.Especially, in these days of recession and falling tyre sales.

Without doubt, this news lifted the share price.Of course, of the major tyre companies.Such as Michelin tyres and Continental tyres.Rising share prices between 30% and 45%. Another tyre company to benefit were Nokian tyres.Hence, a leading player in the winter tyre market. As a result, their shares rising 4% on the news.

Winter tyres also boost revenue

In general Winter Tyres. Therefore cost about 25% more than normal summer tyres. So this will give a boost to the tyre companies revenue.Adding as much as 2 billion Euros to turnover…

“Luxembourg slapped a 74-euro penalty on drivers.Hence, not complying with its snow-tire rule. Polish lawmakers have proposed a 500-zloty ($158) fine for drivers. Not using winter tires from November through March. Turkey and Belgium are mulling similar laws. Germany mandated winter tires two years ago. Winter tires have deeper treads than regular tires. As a result, for better grip and softer rubber. That performs better in cold temperatures but wears more quickly in the summer months. In Sweden, which started requiring winter tires in 1999, the tread must be at least 3 millimeters deep” http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-10-04/european-tiremakers-get-boost-from-new-winter-tire-rules

Profitable Winter for tyre companies Winter Tyres Europe

“The European Commission. Is considering a standard definition for winter tires throughout the region. The rules could be finalized next year. According,to Fazilet Cinaralp.Secretary general of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association in Brussels. As soon as the definition has been clarified.Indeed,we’d like to see a broader mandate on winter tires fairly quickly,” Cinaralp said. “Countries such as Belgium, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Poland and the U.K. should have mandatory winter tires”http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-10-04/european-tiremakers-get-boost-from-new-winter-tire-rules

In my opinion. This will be great news for the whole tyre industry. Thus, creating an all year round industry.Accordingly, helping the smaller tyre companies to increase revenues…

2016 WINTER TYRES-With all the rain and floods and now Snow? Winter Tyres are a NO BRAINER !

2016 WINTER TYRES;Please buy Winter tyres you know it makes sense

September to October is a busy time of year for all us tyre retailers and this year in 2014 has been no different. We are at the front line because we are the ones that sell, advise, and fit the

products on to the customers cars. This is the time of year that we start to think about fitting new ones to our cars, because we know that bad weather will be upon us like a flash , without much warning, (although this year we have had a Months rainfall, in just two days and it feels like winter already).

Much safer in all kind of weather

Many of our roads have been flooded.Hence, due to torrential rain falls. Thus, making driving our cars more of a hazard than ever. Winters, will give you more confidence.Especially, in all kinds of weather,(unless you live in a desert). I know I keep harping on about this subject. But I truly believe this product is the best thing to buy.Of course, if you need to buy tyres this time of year. You must think about you and your families safety.Especially when driving your car in bad weather.

Not much difference in cost

In my opinion the biggest stumbling block to buying winters was the price. Here in the UK motorists were reluctant to pay out for tyres that were almost twice the price as summers . In my earlier days in the industry winters  were only bought by rich people who went to the Alps to enjoy a skiing holiday, but then our winters were much milder, and a hard frost was rarely heard of. But as time has gone by we all know that the Global warming that we were told about is coming true and our summers are becoming wetter and our winters are becoming much colder.

2016 WINTER TYRES

These days we are increasingly sourcing winters.Hence, at more competitive prices. Tyres have now become a World market. So, like most other things tyres are now produced in places like China.

Consequently, we are able to buy cheap tyres. Including ones that are now produced in vast numbers. This has now brought down the winter tyre prices. Therefore, we at Pellon tyres. Market a brand called Jinyu tyres, who produce a low cost winter tyre, we also recommend Avon winter tyres, but in general all winter tyres have come down in price because of the demand across the whole of Europe

Winter tyres are becoming a necessity

Snow will soon be with us be prepared ?

Now we must start preparing for an expected hard winter. Because, it is now odds on that we will get one.Perhaps, due to Global warming. I am one of those people who used to laugh at the experts, when they used to spout off about climate change, but now we are seen it with our own eyes. Just like having to buy warmer clothing we should start to get used to fitting winter tyres and this is the time to fit them.

AVON WINTER TYRES-some advice on fitting studs toyour winter tyres

AVON WINTER TYRES

AVON WINTER TYRES

Why Avon winter tyres?

Last year we had a sort of mild winter compared to the previous two winters, which as we all know were very cold with much of Yorkshire here in the UK covered in snow for long periods. These winters set a trend for us tyre companies. We here at Pellon tyres started the “buy and store” scheme (tyre hotel) for storing customers tyres.

This is when we change your snow tyres into your summer tyres and then re-fit your summer  tyres the following year, so that your winters will last for at least three years. This system became very popular with our customers.

In previous winters motorists used to think that because it hardly ever snows, winters  were a waste of time. This is not so and because of our constant promoting the safety aspect of winters  and explaining that they are designed to cope with all types of poor weather conditions and not just snow, and they also give you greater traction and road-holding on flooded and mud-covered roads, as well as through slush, snow and ice.

 Avon winter tyres

One of the main reasons for the extra grip is that Avon winter tyres rubber compound is specially formulated and now includes “Silica”

One of the main reasons for the extra grip is that Avon winter tyres rubber compound is specially formulated and now includes “Silica” in the compound for superior performance on wet roads, and during the winter months there is plenty of wet weather indeed this year 2012 has been the wettest Summer ever! Of course, if you do live in an area where you could have a sudden heavy snowfall, Avon’s  are specifically designed and made to give you maximum traction.

Avon’s are also designed to perform well on dry roads, too, you should try some this year, wherever you live. From November onward you never know when the winter weather could catch you out, and with Avon’s  from Pellon tyres you’ll be well prepared for whatever the bad weather throws at us.

Some Avon winter tyres advice

This advice is from Avon winter tyres website   http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/car/drivers-winter-tyres-and-driving.

  • Full sets are best – Fit Avon winter tyres – or M+S tyres, as they’re also known – in sets of four. Never mix them with normal road tyres. Studded  tyres should also be fitted as a foursome; mixing studded tyres with the non-studded variety will lead to unstable braking and cornering.
  • Running-in – Non-studded tyres should be used at reduced speeds for the first 60 miles or so. Studded ones take longer to bed in, so keep your speed down for the first 200 miles.
  • Speed ratings – The speed ratings for winter’s  differ from those of regular road ones and very often have a reduced speed capability. Make sure you are aware of the maximum safe speed rating of your Avon winter’s and drive accordingly.
  • Studs on tarmac – Away from the snow and icy conditions they are specifically designed for, studs give reduced road-holding and braking ability. So, on snow- and ice-free surfaces, please do not exceed 62 mph.
  • Keep your studs ‘directional’ – After a period of use, studs develop a pattern of wear that makes them most effective in the direction they’ve been travelling. When you take off your studded tyres at the end of the season, mark them in such a way that when next you put them on, they face the ‘right way”
