Yokohama Rubber Expansion in China

Yokohama Rubber

Yokohama race tyres ready to go back to the factory for examination.

The Japanese tyre company .Hence, make an excellent product in my opinion. moving to China. Therefore is all about driving down the cost of tyres. Of course, this is one of the reasons. That Yokohama Rubber are able to sell their tyre products. Thus, as mid-range tyres and remain competitive.

Yokohama also give much to motorsport. In my opinion will soon be classed as a leading tyre brand. Consequently, tyres as reward to all their efforts and an excellent product. I recently got invited to a F4 race meeting and Yokohama Tyres UK were the tyre suppliers for that race. I was invited to the tyre fitting area and was amazed at the number of tyres that were changed at one race meeting and that every single tyre had to be sent back to the Yokohama Rubber Japan factory to be taken apart and examined for any defects that may be found and also to improve the quality. Much of the information that is gained from motorsport racing will go into improving the quality of their road tyres that are on sale to the general public.

Infinity Tyres Receives UK TAFF Award

Tire Review

“On behalf of everyone at Infinity Tyres, we are delighted and honored to receive this award,” said Harjeev Kandhari, executive director of the global Al Dobowi Group.

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Infinity tyres trying to become a mid-range tyre?

Of course,Infinity tyres are definitely going places. Following in the footsteps of other mid-range tyre companies. Such as Kumho and Hankook by taking part in motorsports events. In my opinion the Infinity Tyres product is a good tyre. But they are still sold as a cheap tyre. In other words a budget tyre.

Tyre companies historically would own a second brand. So that would be sold as budget tyre. Subsequently, with the advent of the Eastern tyre companies from China Infinity Tyresand South Korea. The competition has become tougher for the main tyre brands and names such as Kumho and Hankook are coming to the forefront due to money spent on promotions and the backing of motorsport to promote there tyres, which is now paying off and companies such as Infinity tyres are improving their products and are pushing the big tyre companies for market share.

We are Infinity tyre dealers in the Halifax area of the UK

Indeed Infinity tyres are an excellent product. This tyre brand are imported into the UK by Bond International. Of course, who have done a great marketing job at promoting the Infinity product.

Lead Acid Storage Batteries-Are they the answer for storing Solar Storing

Lead Acid Storage Batteries

Lead Acid Storage Batteries; You will need a Deep cycle lead acid batteries

Lead Acid Storage Batteries

Lead Acid Storage Batteries

Many people are using solar energy. Hence, to bring down the cost of their energy bills. Or to use when out and about in their motor homes and R/V vehicles. Here in the UK. Particular, customers buy many what is known as“Leisure batteries”. Which are a sort of hybrid between a starter and a storage battery.

In most cases. This type of battery. Thus, is sufficient for the purpose. Of perhaps going off on holiday for a few weeks in a year.Perhaps, on a touring holiday. Hence, charging the battery up whilst the vehicle is been driven. As a result, via a charger or the alternator. Incredibly, keeping more up to date charging by means of a portable solar panel.

As I have said. These types of batteries are more than adequate for this usage. However, some people want to use Lead Acid Storage Batteries.Consequently, to store the electricity produced by turbines or solar panels. In my opinion this is a different proposition. Requiring, different batteries to the leisure batteries. So that are common here in the UK. Especially, a type of battery that should be used is the deep cycle battery. These Lead Acid Storage Batteries. Therefore, have much larger plates than the typical car and leisure battery. Therefore, can be charged and discharged.Very similar to the batteries used on boats and marine applications. Not forgetting golfing carts and mobility applications.

Lead Acid Storage Batteries- These are known as an AGM batteries (absorbed Glass Matting).

Lead Acid Storage Batteries

Lead Acid Storage Batteries-Solar panels can use back up storage AGM batteries

These Lead Acid Storage Batteries take a much bigger cycle and are totally sealed, with no requirements for ventilation . The other option is a GEL but in my opinion the GEL  is now going out of favour towards the AGM battery, one of the reasons is the cost of the batteries, AGM are cheaper than GEL  and are also easier to re-charge, more suitable for solar energy storage. For further reading…

“For solar charging applications, you instead want a deep cycle battery, similar to those used for marine vessels or golf carts – a typical car battery will not work. Deep cycle batteries are designed with larger plates and different chemistry to avoid the corrosive effect of frequently using the full capacity. They are designed to be regularly deeply discharged using most of its capacity .Flooded, vs. GEL vs AGM.

There are a few types of lead acid deep cycle batteries: flooded, sealed gelled, or sealed AGM. For most situations a sealed AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) is the safest and best option. AGM batteries require little maintenance. There is no need for ventilation and they will not spill. Flooded batteries have the advantage of being significantly less expensive, but they require adequate ventilation, maintenance, and also have the potential liability of tipping or spilling.

Lead Acid Storage Batteries

AGM batteries are typically lighter and less expensive per amp-hour compared to gel. As an example, on Alt E Store a Trojan AGM 12V 100 amp-hour battery is 64 pounds and $241, or 0.64 lbs/AH and $2.41/AH. A Trojan Gel 12V 77 amp-hour battery is 52 pounds and $231, or 0.68 lbs/AH and $3.00/AH. In addition gel batteries need to be recharged in a specific way that is not optimal for solar. Basically, AGM batteries are more forgiving in the way that they are recharged”…

all so more solar reading…

Of these things, the one you should be spending the most money on is the batteries. Most systems have enough battery backup to power the whole house

Lead Acid Auto Batteries-will Not Store for very long without regular charging?

Lead Acid Auto Batteries

You must not store discharged Lead Acid Auto Batteries

Lead acid batteries were a great invention; they have been going strong for over 130 years. Although they may be under threat from today’s lithium-ion batteries, I believe that they hear to stay even much longer, with petrol and electric cars driving side by side. The lead acid batteries have supplied us with Cheap Batteries for the last 60 years, with mass production (mainly from the East and China) lowering the cost of motoring. Customers were able to buy batteries online through the internet.

The advanced battery has been durable and dependable when it is also used correctly. The discharge rate is amongst the lowest in the world and is capable of high discharge rates while

Lead Acid Batteries

Lead Acid Batteries-Smart chargers are now more affordable to buy to keep your battery in tip-top condition throughout the winter period.

Delivering bursts of energy that are capable of starting your car engine on a cold morning.

The big problem occurs when you store your lead acid battery in a “DISCHARGED CONDITION”. The 12 Volt Battery will never re-charge again. The battery has a limited number of fully discharged cycles and will only take a couple of deep discharges. The electrolyte in the battery can easily spill, causing environmental damage if spilt.

Lead Acid Auto Batteries

We have a customer in Lancashire in the UK who has been using cheap car batteries to start large electric generators that are transported, on site. The batteries have been used to start the generators and charged by an alternator when it is running similar to the way a car works.

But when the batteries are left unused

But when the batteries are left stood and unused. Hence, for perhaps 2 or 3 months. Therefore, allows the batteries to discharge totally.Eventually, deteriorate until they can no longer be used. Thus,    the company then wanted to change the batteries under warranty?. This problem will also happen to a battery that is left unused, in a car for long periods. As a result, without been charged. Therefore, the lead-acid car battery has to to be charged fully, at all times.

Then be tested at regular intervals. Hence, to maintain the charge otherwise, the battery will quickly deteriorate and fail. Even in the warranty period. This procedure also applies to other uses of lead acid batteries. Including, AGM golf batteries, motorcycle batteries and Leisure Batteries all of which, should all be fully charged . These days you can buy a smart charger that will keep your battery in a good state of charge over the winter period, or any other time when the battery is dormant.

Electric Cars More dangerous-China says that the EV-Battery driven cars may be more “Harmful to your Health”.

Electric Cars More dangerous; Power stations not the battery powered cars

Electric Cars More dangerous; A pollution study in China has come to the conclusion. That battery drove cars to cause more pollution than conventionally fuelled vehicles because the electricity used to charge the cars is so-called “Dirty” fuel because the power stations rely on fossil fuels such as coal and gas, to power them.

The study was carried out in no less than 34 cities through out China.

People who are conducting this research are led by Professor Cherry a leading scientist in this field, who was helped by Chinese under graduates. He compared the particulate matters that cause the pollution which is similar to the test carried out on our cars in the UK on an “MOT TEST” on electric battery drove cars to that in petrol driven vehicles. He conducted the tests in China.  Because, believe it or not, they love electric battery driven cars and cycles and have probably the biggest percentage of battery-powered vehicles in the World. In fact, Chinese battery used cars outnumber regular fueled 12 Volt Battery vehicles by about 2 to 1.

The Police operate many of these cars, post, and local government. It has always been my opinion that Governments have gone about the green effect problem the wrong way. They should have sorted the power stations problem out, long ago. Man of the power plants in the world is fuelled, from fuels such as coal and gas. But instead, the power operators chose to hammer the poor motorists. This was done with the costs and by the look of this report to no avail. We are still polluting the Planet and its citizens with countries like China burning 85% of electricity from coal.

To conclude it is a fact that regular petrol which has driven vehicles with modern emission methods are cleaner than electric battery operated cars, and that  Electric Cars More dangerous

What’s your opinion??

“They found that the electricity generated to power electric cars caused more particulate matter Car Pollution  than that caused by an equivalent number of petrol driven vehicles. There was no Advantages of Electric Cars.

Particulate matter comes from the combustion of fossil fuels and includes acids, organic chemicals, metals, and soil or dust particles.

Professor Cherry said: ‘An implicit assumption has been that air quality and health impacts are lower for electric cars than for conventional vehicles”…

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and tyre industry now for 40 years. I used to work for a couple of national tyre companies before starting my first business. Tyre Labels Regulations- Drivers are now taking more Notice of Them

Tyre Labels Regulations

Tyre Labels Regulations; New European tyre labels yet another cost to business forced onto us by Brussels

As if wasn’t enough David Cameron was telling all of us small businesses that he was going to “cut red tape”, he has imposed a new EU law onto us called a standardised consumer label so

Tyre Labels Regulations

Tyre Labels Regulations; consumersThis Michelin car tyre has a highly rated B and B ratio users. That can choose for themselves which product is for their car. “I don’t think so”. Most of my customers here at Pellon tyres in Halifax. Come to us because they trust us. How could you trust a Tyre Labels Regulations on a tyre made in China?. I suspect not. As an update, we are finding that to my surprise.

Hence, our customers are taking some notice of what the new labels are telling them. Tyre manufacturers are also trying to improve their products. Even some Cheap Car Tyre makers are bringing out products with better standards. Thus, according to the labels. In general, though it is the big tyre manufacturers that are winning. Customers look up the ratings before they buy a tyre. Therefore, it is the big boys. Such as Michelin and Continental that are having the most success.

Tyre Labels Regulations

Tyre Labels Regulations; new label (easy)

The new system is supposed to be in place for November this year(2012). As a result is intended to help the motorist to choose a rating. Naturally, that has got low emissions and dare I say it better road safety. The same Europe that allows people to sell possible killers. As a result, called “Part worn tyres”, these don’t even have to have Tyre Labels Regulations. Surprise surprise !!!.

WE will now have to have an efficiency label on tyres that display three main points, Rolling resistance, Wet grip and Fuel efficiency. The new tyre label will value from A-G, but not D.I will try to explain what each group means.

What the new Tyre Labels Regulations means (hope you can take it in)

 ROLLING RESISTANCE

This covers A to G Dis not used, rolling resistance of the tyre and contributes most to fuel efficiency and therefore reduces CO2 emissions and also driving costs. Each letter has a difference plus or minus of 0.42 to 0.56 miles per gallon(mpg) for a car that will do 36 mpg. (I hope you are still paying attention)

WET GRIP

“Wet grip is what it says on the tin” how good is the car at stopping in wet driving conditions and is expressed as the “stopping distance”. The letters used for this are A to G not using D or G, (are you still awake), the stopping distance between 3 and 7 feet when you brake hard at 50 mph. We have had this measured on our forecourt now for five years and no one has ever tried it out yet.

NOISE

The noise that the tyre makes,(nothing to do with our lousy road surfaces its the tyres fault) and is measured in decibels. The more black bars on your Tyre Labels Regulations, the noisier the tyre tread is.

In my opinion, this is more red tape from Brussels, and I will stress that the customer should take advice from his local dealer.

Tyre Labels Regulations

As an update to the tyre label introduction, i must say that I am pleasantly surprised to see that the motoring public is now showing lots of interest in these names and they are influencing the purchasing decisions of the tyre buying public, I hold my hands up, and I was WRONG?

Firestone Whitewall Tyres on this Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 1 a Gem on Firestone Tyres

Firestone Whitewall Tyres

Finest Firestone Whitewall Tyres for this car

Firestone Whitewall Tyres

Superb silver cloud is sporting a new set of whitewall tyres from Firestone. These tyres are not the original equipment. Rolls Royce come out on Avon or Dunlop tyres, but the Firestone Whitewall Tyres sure look good.

One of the good things running a garage these days. As expected, you never know what car will turn up at any given time.

Today was no exception. Thus, we had a 1950’s Rolls-Royce Cars presented to us for a MOT test.Hence,  the car was on 820×15 vintage Firestone Whitewall Tyre .Accordingly, the car was a Silver Cloud mk1 made between 1955 and 1958 and ran on a straight six engine. Of course, it had a chassis that made of box steel section which was a robust and rigid construction. Much of the rest of the car was made of light alloy to keep down the weight.

The gearbox was a four-speed automatic. Naturally, the brakes were servo assisted. Equipped, with power steering and air conditioning.Which becoming an option in the later models. The car weighed in at nearly two tonnes and did only about fifteen miles to the gallon and 0 to 60 in about fourteen seconds Tyres were an option the original make was Dunlop tyres, but Firestone Whitewall Tyres also made the 820×15 size.

It is always a great pleasure service cars like this and I would like to thank John Horsfield for bringing these excellent cars to us and for trusting them in our care.

We also sell Firestone Whitewall Tyres on   www.pellonautocentre.com.
