Lawnmower Battery Care-Time to dig out and replace your old battery-Care advice

Lawnmower Battery Care

Lawnmower Battery Care; Your lawnmower battery probably didn’t make it through the Winter?

Another spring is here and its grass cutting time again. The temperatures are starting to get milder. But as I write this blog the rain’s been falling for the past 2 weeks. Hence, and its freezing again. You get home from work have to the central heating on to keep the house warm. So think about your poor  mower battery stuck in your shed or garage all winter.

Lawnmower Battery Care

Typical battery start-up  mower (looks a bit like Tony Blair?)

Your battery will have been well forgotten about. Thus, and is probably dead by now. The problem is that your grass is slowly growing. Therefore, and needs that regular cut. Get in the shed and dig out your lawnmower battery. Because, you know it makes sense. It might be one of the worst summers on record. Thus, my lawn has been growing for three weeks without a mow.Naturally, it’s four inches long now and getting out of control.(at least, I have got a new battery, ready for the first sunny dry day to attack my grass)

Now you have dug the mower out you try starting it. Here goes? A few puffs of smoke and bangs. As expected, the old one is cold and frozen all winter and is totally dead. Yes, you shout! I can watch the match now, I have an excuse. “Sorry dear but the mower battery is dead”,”ill put it on charge and cut the grass in the morning”. You’ve always got an excuse she says and goes to see her daughter down the road while you open a glass of beer and watch the match,”perfect”.

Lawnmower Battery Care

This is how it goes for 90% of the guys, cutting grass is just another chore thrown at us by our wife’s. The gardeners are the ones who take their mower battery off their machine before the Winter arrives and charges the mower battery up to make sure it makes it through the winter. In my opinion, if the old one is more than two yeas old then it should be changed at the beginning of the new grass growing season in the spring and is not worth keeping or charging and needs to be replaced. Remember though if you throw away the old one and make sure that you write down the part numbers and letters so that you can order the exact same size for the next spring.

If you are like the first guy and do not like gardening then the easiest thing to do is to through the old one away and buy a new one. Your Electric Lawn Mowers battery can be bought online and batteriesontheweb store on e-bay carry a good selection, but it is important to write down the numbers and letters on your old lawnmower battery and get the correct one. You will find plenty of cheap batteries

Your lawnmower battery should be changed at regular intervals

Part Worn Tyres Expensive – “You DO NOT SAVE YOU MONEY in the long run”

Post Updated 19th Dec 2013

Part Worn Tyres Expensive-Proof that part worn tyres work out more expensive in the long run

Most tyre experts and motoring organisations are very concerned about the amount of part worn tyres are now fitted here in the UK. The latest motoring organisation to voice their opinion is the very respectful Motorcodes, of which we at Pellon tyres are members (and proud to be so).

These Part Worn Tyres Expensive are generally imported from countries such as Germany, where tyres are generally removed at 3 mil. These Part Worn Tyres Expensive look fine from the outside but there is no saying what Part Worn Tyres Expensivedamage lies under the surface of the tread and could be very dangerous indeed. We are effectively buying old tyres from Germany, the tyres that the Germans throw away as no good any more, I cant believe that we would do such a thing. Part Worn Tyres Expensive also offer a danger to other motorists on the road, they put other drivers at risk because people think they are saving money.

In 1994 part worn tyres came under a law called the “Motor Vehicle Tyres Safety Regulations”, these regulations were to ensure that part worn tyres were properly tested and labelled as such, if people buy tyres that have been tested then this is deemed as ok and suitable for the use on roads, but the Part Worn Tyres Expensive we have come across do not appear to have any checks on them and no label. All part worn tyres must be labelled as such. They must have the words ‘PART- WORN’ marked in capital letters. This must be permanent and legible. (I think this is to give other road users the chance to get out of the way

Many more part worn tyres are now sold because of the economic recession. A recent excellent survey regarding how cheap a part worn tyre really is has been studied and written by a tyre industry expert Stuart Carr. I have posted a link to Stuarts blog and I hope you will click to see that

part worn tyres cost “MORE” than new tyres in the long run in real terms

To finalise any garage that are in Motorcodes will not endorse the sale of part worn tyres.

Renault Clio Steering Wheel Not straight- needed Wheel Alignment?

Renault Clio Steering Wheel Not straight

Renault Clio Steering Wheel Not straight; Wheel alignment would have stopped this. Renault Clio Steering Wheel Not straight

Here at Pellon tyres, we are always getting customers cars with bad wheel alignment problems. The latest being a Renault Clio that the client presented to us for an MOT test that they had booked in “online”.The picture in this blog shows precisely the condition that the tyre was in, the tyre was down to the steel belt of the tyre construction, a very dangerous state to find your tyres in. If this customer checked his wheel alignment at regular periods, then the tyre would not have been in that state.

Drivers should always check their Wheel Alignment, whenever you buy a set of new tyres . It is also a great idea to have a wheel alignment when suspension parts will be replaced, or you knowingly hit the curb or going over things like speed bumps in the road. It may not appear so at the time, but your wheel alignment will probably be out of line and cause damage to your tyres.

Wheel alignment consists of adjusting the angles of the wheels

The first static suspension angles that need to be measured and adjusted are the caster, camber, toe, and thrust angle. Another good reason to track your is to straighten your steering back to a level position; All these problems will be solved and corrected through wheel alignment adjustment.

Recycling Tyres-Garden use-There are many ways to recycle tyres in the garden

Use tyres of the same size.

As a very keen gardener and the owner of a garage business, I am always looking for legal ways of using my old scrap. Tyres are now costing me £1 each for disposal and when you fit as many as we do in Halifax, West Yorkshire you can see that any other way of using the old ones will help the environment and also my bottom line.

Recycling Tyres

There are several ways to use old ones for the garden, but this blog will be a “compost heap”.You can visit any Auto center near your location, and they will only be too willing to sort you out with the same size tyres that you will need to stack up for a compost heap.

Recycling Tyres

Recycling an old tyre for a bath for the kids

I experimented with a couple of sizes, my garden is quiet large, so I used a size 225/45/17, or you could go for 205/55/16, it all depends on your ability and state of health, but your dealer will only be too glad to give you the old tyres that you need. What I did then, was to lay down the first two one on the top of the other and then started filling them with your garden and house- hold waste,(excluding meat and animal waste). It is best using garden waste such as old veg leaves and other mature greenery, keep it organic.

If you live in Halifax, West Yorkshire Pellon Tyres will only is glad to sort you out with old tyres. Free of charge.

As the tyres fill up, you can just add another tyre on top and carry on to the desired height. When you have reached your limit you can cover the top to keep the rain out if you live in a wet part of your country or leave the top off, remember a compost heap built from old tyres must be kept moist to allow the composting to take place. The old tyres are made of the perfect material to retain the moisture you require for complete composting.

Which 4×4 Tyres?Changing your 4×4 tyres can lead to a whole new experience

Of course, there is probably nothing wrong with the with the ones that are fitted as original equipment to your 4×4 vehicle. So,the companies that make these cars link together with tyre manufacturers. Naturally, in both research and development to create the 4×4 Tyres will suite your vehicle best. The product that they choose will , be of one that gives excellent performance and comfort for  the average 4×4 driver, as the vehicles are sold to a cross-section of the public.

This, however, does not cater for all the different conditions that this type of vehicle is capable of much more complicated tasks. Average class SUV  drivers usually need the car to have mainly on-road tributes, combined with a little off-road driving. His main driving priorities would be the speed with little noise, the same as a standard type car.

Which 4×4 Tyres

For any deviation from the norm, tyre manufacturers have developed their products into 4×4 tyres that give the driver different responses and attributes in the handling and performance of their individual ones. A typical example of this would say the farmer. He would need a vehicle to get him to say the cattle or sheep markets with a relatively high degree of comfort, but at the same time may have to travel over a rough area to attend to an injured animal. In his case, he is going to need much tougher ones than the guy who has an off road vehicle but just nips to the office or takes the kids to school.

It is also worth pointing out that by using experts, you will be able to get comprehensive advice on not only the type of tyre you need but the correct size and weight loading’s, critical things to know about. We have a full team of specialist 4×4 tyre technicians to back us up here at Pellon tyres.

Which 4×4 Tyres We can help you select the best replacement 4×4’s  for your vehicle.

It is, therefore, important to take advice on which replacement; Which 4×4 Tyres will best suite your car. We at Pellon tyres here in Yorkshire. Are part a Nationwide 4×4 group, we can give you this type of advice. Therefore, we sell all 4×4  brands. So that we can provide real open information as to your needs.

Motorcodes Membership- Give garages a better standard and Excellent Control for consumer satisfaction

Motorcodes Membership

Motorcodes Membership

The UK authorities that regulate garage services and repairs here in the UK.Thus, have at last come up with a better way to control bad practice throughout the UK motor industry. Many systems were implicated in trying to regulate garage services.Including, repairers and car sales outlets for un- lawful practices. But this did not stop dodgy traders from breaking the rules. So and taking their customers to the cleaners.hence,  by not carrying out the correct repairs or not doing the work they were expected to do. Some garages were supposed to conduct garage services, but Motorcodes Membershipnever even touched the car, a complete rip off.

Most people have heard of horror stories. Therefore, the motor industry has had bad press. I personally as an “honest” garage owner do not think this will ever change.I think there will always be dodgy dealers in the motor trade.Consequently, willing to rip people off. Motorcodes will help ease this problem with higher standards set for the garage business.

Over the years many different organisations have come formed trying to regulate the garage trade. But it seems that their members are always joined by the same, ” Good garages“. The majority of garages and car dealers and auto centres are honest and genuine people, who are just out to earn a decent living. Especially in the private sector.

Motorcodes Membership

Most garage owners are very hard working individuals. Thus, who run their businesses honestly. Hence, offering the “local community” an excellent and honest deal on garage services.  One of the first “regulatory bodies” to control garages. Was “Trading Standards”. Garages who joined could attend meetings at a local facilities. Therefore, to discuss ways and means to offer a better garage services, but this did not stop the bad guys, as they only did not join, I think though that this was a move in the right direction.

However due to the recession. Because of the Government cut backs in the nineties. This scheme was scrapped to be, and other private organisation sprung up, These were driven by companies that were also promoting garage services products, such as oils and other engine products, in other words, you had to buy their goods to be in the club. In my opinion, this was not a satisfactory situation, and many of these schemes fell by the wayside.

“Motorcodes Membership” is a better system that helps to create an improved image for the motor trade and garage services, this time, I have a feeling it will be more successful.

To check out your local “MOTORCODES” garage log onto www.motorcodes.co.uk or in West Yorkshire www.pellonautocentre.com

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful “Swiss Registered” Bentley With its splendid “white-wall tyres”

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful

Hi while I was on holiday in France recently I came across this wonderful, well kept Bentley in the car park of a French supermarket in a town called Ruffec. Its owner was a short very well dressed and dapper guy who really looked the kind of guy to drive such a car.

Great full white wall tyres fitted

The car was fitted with a set of full side-wall white -wall tyres. A great sight that I have not seen for years. I could see if they were the real thing or just inserts. Most of all they really set the car off, I could have looked but I did not want to be too nosy in the middle of a supermarket car park.

White wall tyres and trims still available

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful

The tyre trims are still available for these cars. I think the car is a Bentley S1 saloon but I am not sure perhaps if you know you could me, as I am very interested in what I can find out about things for my blog when I am out and about.
