Most cars need a major annual service, and in our belief, depending on the mileage should have one or even two what we call “engine services” a year especially diesel engined vehicles.
The oil and filter require changing and the rest of the levels topped up. Cars over three years old could and perhaps should have the primary service carried out at the same time as the MOT test.
It depends on what type of garage you choose and indeed trust.
We at Pellon Autocentre Halifax decided to join the UCCC garage scheme to upgrade our standards and quality of parts to conform with the new EU regulations, that allows garages to service cars that are still under manufacturers warranties.

All the service parts that we use on all car brands are from Unipart Express factors and are of the finest quality.
Every car that we service has a printed service sheet from our Autodata computer programme. Consequently, the specific car service is carried for each make and model of car. We also check the timing belt changing times and pass the information on to the customer.
We at Pellon Autocentre Halifax advise our customers to have a service at the same time as a MOT test. Furthermore, your car has been looked after and is more importantly safe to drive and to other road users.

As a UCCC service centre, we have to be part of the Government recommended garage regulatory body called Motorcodes. Asa member of

A sa member of Motorcodes we have to be checked by the RAC on certain standards and fair pricing. Our staff take examinations in their workmanship and the work that they have done on the day of the audit is checked for quality a great benefit to our customers. We also have to retain all the old parts for 24 hours for the client to check if required.
Motorcodes also offer an arbitration service to resolve any disputed that may arise between ourselves and a customer.

Spring Car Servicing-Treat your car to a Spring Treat with a good service

Updated 7/6/2014

Spring Car Servicing; Get Your Car Service After the  long Winter

Spring Car Servicing; Eric Roberts of Pellon Tyre and Autocentre gives his humble advice on good Customer Service on your vehicle or van after our the last cold and wet winter. Even a short engine service will be good for your cars life, and life expectancy, changing your old oil will reinvigorate your cars engine, and prolong its life expectancy.
I think this is the time to think about getting your car serviced, even in these times of recession it will pay you to care your vehicle by having Spring Car Servicing.
This winter as been exceptionally wet on your vehicle. Because of all the torrential rains. We have experienced this spring and winter and the rainy days have probably been forgotten now that Spring Car Servicingwe will be feeling when a bit of warm sun(not yet though we are now in May, and it’s still freezing) on our backs and the spring has arrived.

But your car took some heavy wear and tear on those cold, freezing nights. Your battery, your braking system, your clutch and other items such as the thickness of your cars oil. When your engine is running on thick oil, there is a likelihood of the increase in wear and tear on your engine, and it is important to change the oil as soon as the air temperature starts to rise, this will give your engine an uplift and increase its life expectancy.
Also, the effect that inclement weather has on your clutch and tyres, skidding on slippery surfaces causes massive amounts of premature wear on both these parts of your vehicle; an excellent service will pick up all these points.

Spring Car Servicing

Your Spring Car Servicing should be carried out at a proper service centre, ( look for your nearest Unipart service centre). Many motorists know of a good garage centre and will often pass this information on to their friends and family by word of mouth.
If you are phoning around for prices. I would advise going for the middle range price ( and make sure that the price includes parts and labour).

It is also a good idea to ask the garage/auto centre to keep your old parts for you to examine. Although many of the good centres will do this automatically for you. The cost of your Spring Car Servicing are governed by the size of your car engine. The cubic capacity (CC) usually the prices are split into three, small, medium and large engines. The bigger the car, the more extensive the parts. Therefore, the costlier the service and also diesel engines will be slightly more expensive.
I always recommend that motorists should try and use a garage that may be part of a larger trading group. These organisation often offer excellent guarantees and a sounder peace of mind,” and you cannot beat word of mouth recommendation”. I often give the analogy of buying a cheap tyre”. They look good but never last as long as a premium brand of tyre.
Also with many motorists strapped for cash. I would advise that the least thing you do is to change your engine oil. Consequently, have your brakes checked when you can afford to have your Spring Car Servicing.

Not just a service check your battery as well

If your car battery starts letting you down, change it as soon as possible. Most modern cars have onboard computers. Also, modern engines now have alternators that charge at 14.5 volts and will only work correctly using a maintenance free battery. Your replacement battery should be the best that you can afford, but there are many car batteries for sale at reasonable prices. Try and buy a high-quality maintenance free battery with a three-year warranty at an affordable price; Available at most good websites, with next day

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network-put their trust for reliable work in the “Motorcodes network”

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network

Each month, Motorcodes releases figures on a variety of customer satisfaction ratings.

We think this is important, to demonstrate transparency both to potential garage clients and to the authorities. As Motor Codes subscription has expanded, our Code Survey helps explain that this growth is about much more than putting a badge on the garage doors, with no regulation.
The good news, as you’ll see in the table below, is that January’s figures show that the high standards set for subscribing service and repair centres are being maintained. Amongst the numbers is a notable 95% customer recommendation rate – probably the most important statistic of all and one that bodes well for business within the network.

This is no doubt going to be one of the most successful consumer protection schemes that were brought out in the garage World. In the past, we only had the Trading Standards system to protect the motorist from been let’s say “taken for a ride”, by corrupt and dodgy garage owners. In the last few years various Government schemes had been tried out here in the UK, and to an extent, there have been some real systems. Most of these though were tied to buying car servicing products, which in my mind did not stop with the spirit of things.

We in the garage trade needed a transparent system to link up the garage with the customer, in a case of any disputes that may arrive during the service or repair of the client’s car. Motorcodes came along and in my mind was the ideal vehicle to sort out any differences that may have risen while the garage was in charge of repairing their car.

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network

Also, other things were in the Motorcodes good practice scheme. One of them is that each participating garage must have regular inspections. These include a fair pricing system that is transparent to the motorist. We at Pellon Autocentre in Halifax UK, do not carry out any work to a customer’s car. This is unless the client is notified of the price and understands  about the work that we are carrying out, if they are any ad don’s that were not foreseen, then the customer will be contacted again, and we will explain the reason for the extra charge, this way there should be no surprises when the client receives their final invoice.

Motorists Trust Motorcodes network

Another Motorcodes safeguard is that we must keep the old parts to show the customer what we have fitted for a 24 hr period before final disposal, this also includes any service parts

That we may have changed, this makes the whole thing transparent and ensures tiny disputes or falling out with the customer, we are all aware that repairing cars can be a distressing time for customer when they leave their vehicle with you, so all this good code of practice, helps towards a better all round experience for the under pressure motorists all part of being a member of Motorcodes, in my opinion, the best garage standard organisation out there at the moment and we at Pellon are proud to be members.

Eric Roberts

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the
Garage and Tyre and Battery business now for 40 years. I have worked for a
couple for national tyre companies in my younger days, before starting my first
business. I now own a company here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and
Auto-centre
, and I am a keen blogger about anything to do with cars and their
related products that will help my business. We are members of Point-S and
Motor-Codes and are also a Unipart Car Care Centre and of course Tyre-safe.

Local garages -You CAN trust them for your Car Servicing and Repairs?

Local garages

Local garages make a huge effort to make sure that your servicing is carried out in the correct manner.

local garages,servicing

We carry out car servicing and MOT Testing

Most independent local garages service a mix of car makes. Includes my own garage here in Halifax West Yorkshire in the UK. I must admit that we do not service too many Rolls-Royce’s or Ferrari’s. But we do get one or two from local businesses that are not tied up with servicing contracts.

As the owner of one of Halifax’s local garages. So,  we have always tried to keep our car servicing prices at a reasonable prices Hence, to our local customers. Of course, this has helped us to keep a regular and steady clientele. Naturally, that uses us to have their cars repaired and Serviced. Including  Vauxhall Servicing, Hyundai Servicing, and Smart Car Servicing.

We are also an MOT testing centre and are in the green lane in the VOSA testing station recommendations. This is a risk assessment from VOSA called the Operator Compliance Risk Score (OCRS). Meaning that we run our test centre “squeaky clean” and honest. Thus, the way that local garages should and in most cases do?

Local garages

local garages

car in for servicing keeps

This is how I run all my businesses. So that I can promise all my customers that all the work that we carry out will be carried out.Consequently, in an honest way and will also be priced up in an honest way. We are not infallible and if a dispute arises we can go into arbitration through an organisation called Motorcodes.

Motorcodes is a government backed organisation to insure that participating local garages serve their customers in a fair and honest manner. Motorcodes are also now connected to the office of fair trading and we are proud to be members. We are also vetted each year by the AA to examine the state of our garage and reception area.

We also became members of Unipart car Care Centres to help cement our relationship with our garage customers by making sure that the parts that we fit are of the best quality and of the same standard as the original equipment parts would have been fitted at a franchised garage. I find that this is one of the things that to a potential new customer may be worried about.

Local garages Servicing-“add-ons” do you really need them

Add-ons are something that I never used to consider when a customer asks for the price of a service. However I have started to think on different lines due to the ever increasing pressure to make our cars comply with emission controls and a greener environment.

When a car is new there is no contamination in the engine, but as the car increases its mileage, then contamination deposits begin to build up inside the engine and a gradual drop off occurs in the cars fuel consumption. In my opinion just an oil change will not be enough and so we have decided to offer our customers the choice of using an engine treatment from a company called Tec-4. This is what the company have to say, an extract from their website…www.tec-4.co.uk

“Petrol is an organic matter. When it is burnt or left to naturally degrade contamination is created. This contamination builds up on key components within the engine, most notably fuel injectors, inlet and exhaust valves and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves. This contamination has a detrimental effect on the efficiency of the engine resulting in lost performance and increased fuel consumption”

After treatment the harmful contamination is removed, giving the car an improvement of between 10% and 15% in fuel efficiency, and with the price of petrol heading for £7 per gallon, it could mean a saving of between £200 and £300 in a year.(Fuel is now significantly lower since this article was published)

There are also treatment for diesel cars and also treatments for car cooling systems. It is a decision that I have already made and we are going to offer our service customers the choice to have the treatment on their cars or not and see what happens.
