Some cars develop the SQUEAKING BRAKES problem. Thus, during normal motoring.Therefore, sometimes this is will occur when new brake pads have recently been fitted.

The first thing we do at Pellon Autocentre. Is to remove all the wheels for close inspection. If the brakes have not been serviced recently we inspect each set of brakes.Hence, to look for any problems with the wear of the pads or shoes. We then check the other parts.Naturally, for incorrect fitting or for any damage that may have taken place. Sometimes the customer has had cheap ones fitted.Thus, causing dust to clog up the pads and become noisy or squeaky.

If nothing visible can be found, we would install new pads, only using the pads that are recommended for that model of car and the highest quality. Indeed because of the Squeaking Brakes Pads problem in the first instance we would use the original equipment pads from the main dealers. We at Pellon are a Unipart Service Centre and so use Unipart brake parts, and although these parts are of the highest quality, there are occasions then it is necessary to use the original equipment parts for excellent customer service this usually solves the problem especially for problem pads such as premature wear or indeed Squeaking brakes.

If the problem persists, we may have to look at fitting pads with a higher carbon content although this is most unusual. Another issue could be the brake shims that fit between the pads and the callipers. The squeaky brakes problem can be cured by removing the shims and clean them thoroughly before giving them a coating of brake grease and then refitting them to the car; this job should be done at regular services so as not to cause future problems.

The reform was all about setting new rules to take into account the intensity of competition on the markets for the distribution of motor vehicles and spare parts. Also for the provision of repair and maintenance services. It covers cars, trucks and buses, and all types of garage small or large.

The Commission found that competition in the market for the sale of new vehicles is strong. In this light, the current sector-specific rules create an unnecessary straitjacket that prevents

car manufacturers from organising their distribution systems as they see fit. The European Commission has therefore aligned the rules applicable to motor vehicle distribution. This applies with those that apply to distribution agreements in other sectors but with a three-year transition period to allow dealers to adapt to the new measures.

Competition on the markets for repair and maintenance and for spare parts distribution is less intense. This is a risk to consumers who may be harmed by anti-competitive practices. This could push up Car Repair Costs when Servicing a Car. The garage Repair and maintenance industry is very important for consumers. Not only for reasons of safety and reliability. But also because repair bills account for 40% of the total cost to car owners. Unlike car prices, the cost of the average repair job and  servicing has actually risen over the past years.

Consumers are feeling the effect of rising repair bills. This also includes  servicing costs during the present crisis. They are more price-sensitive and drive older vehicles that require more regular maintenance. The EU Commission has put in place a tougher regime for these markets. They will make it easier to enforce the rules. Particular problematic issues include holding back technical information and not releasing spare parts, and refusing to honour warranties when consumers have their cars repaired at independent garage servicing facilities.

For cars put in circulation before that date and allow the presentation of technical information to evolve and continue in line with technical progress.

The EU Commission remains committed to vigorously enforce the rules on access to technical information. This was demonstrated in four cases brought in 2007. This was to ensure that car manufacturers disclose the necessary information to independent repairers and garage servicing facilities. The EU Commission will constantly monitor the situation in the markets for motor vehicle and spare parts distribution, as well as in the market for the provision of repair and maintenance services including garage servicing companies. The EU Commission will also monitor the application of the Regulation, in cooperation with National Competition Authorities and stakeholders. Once again the UK garage and motor industry can continue to work hard and give the public the service and competitive pricing they deserve.

With the nights now getting visibly darker. Then it is just as well that we have well lit roads and well-lit highways. Generally, this is very important. We have probably one of the best after dark road light systems in the developed world.  Car lights are a safety critical aspect of motoring. But it seems that more and more cars are driving on our roads with lights out.

I have often noticed that cars on the continent. Especially France drive about all the time with on or more of their  car lights not working. of course, the cars in France have a slight excuse. Because they only have an Car Lights MissingMOT every two years. Although, this is no excuse ! firstly, because of the safety concerns. Developing  by having car lights out.

It is paramount that you check your lights all the time especially in the winter time.

I can not believe the number of cars that I have seen driving along the M62 motorway of poor visibility such as heavy rain or even fog with a head light off; it is entirely irresponsible.

These days many car manufacturers are fitting light bulb warning lights to alert the motorist that a bulb is out this is a great step forward, and it will be a much safer World when all cars have these sensors fitted.

MOT Rolls Royce Wraith Limousine; Eric Roberts and his MOT testers are pleased that the owner of such a valuable and iconic car. 

The car was first bought by a wealthy cotton mill owner from Bradford in West Yorkshire. He bought the car as a gift to his wife. The Rolls Royce, has been kept in “excellent condition”by its present owner ever since. We at Pellon carry out the annual MOT test.
The Wraith Limousine was built by Rolls Royce at their premises in Derbyshire from between 1938 and 1939. It was sold only as a chassis to “independent car and coach body builders”. Who then built individual versions of the body styles for this“great car”.
The Wraith had coil spring independent suspension with large leaf springs at the rear, the car had a six cylinder overhead valve 4257 cc engine, with a four speed gearbox three gears had synchromesh gears fitted.
Drum brakes came as standard and were assisted by a “mechanical servo” driven by the engine from a French designer. This car was fitted with an “hydraulic jacking system” which was operated from a lever under the passenger seat.
Speed depended on the type of body that the car had fitted. Furthermore, the average speed was probably about 80 to 90 mph. Finally, the tyres on the car were 17ins usually Dunlop tyres and the wheels were wire spokes in design.

The car was in great condition for the mot test.In 1938 the complete touring car would have cost around £1700 to £2000 for a complete car including the body, only 492 cars were built but due to the outbreak of the “second world war” production had to stop. This why some of the cars have later registration numbers. The car that we were working on is registered in 1946 because of the need to hold them in storage until after the war.

Eric Roberts MD of Pellon-auto centre has recently attended a regional meeting of Unipart Car Care Centres (UCCC). This was in a hotel in Wakefield West Yorkshire. New plans that mean that Pellon Autocentre Joins Unipart was unveiled to upgrade their new image to the garage members.

UCCC Members will be offered complete new signage. Consequently, by using Unipart’s new updated logo. This logo is very similar to the present one. Because it appeared that only a slight modification to upgrade. Eric Roberts says “The new image looks very stylish. Although there is not lots of change, the new design will look very useful. Especially, when bonded together with all the other promotional effects that will be on offer to us.
