Dont drive whilst you are sleepy warns Pellon tyres

Many of my customers at Pellon tyres complain that they can not get enough sleep. All I see all day is people yawning. Some of my customers have actually fallen asleep in our reception,

Sleepy Drivers

This road sign should be universal?

when coming in to buy tyres. This leads me to a new report out that a study shows that drivers with a lack of sleep are causing a great danger. This is to other motorists and it is  due to this lack of sleep that is causing dangerous situations for themselves and other drivers. Especially on our very busy roads.

In the USA they have a “Drowsy Drivers Prevention Week”, which is held some time in November. This helps bring out awareness about the problem. Indeed a recent survey has found that nearly all drivers that were questioned have felt like having a sleep while behind the steering wheel. Some time or another causing a serious threat to other drivers.

take a power sleep

I can confess to be one of them. I often have to deliver tyres during the day and often feel drowsy. I pull over if I can and take in some fresh air or have a coffee, they even advise us to try take a power nap where possible.

Once again in America it was found that one in 8 serious road crashes. This involved a drivers that fell asleep at the wheel thus causing the accident and other drivers horrific injuries. Men were found to suffer from drowsiness more than women. Whilst the other dangerous group were the under 24 year olds, many admitted dropping off to sleep at the wheel and drifting across other lanes of the road.

Think that it is important to get at least 7 hours sleep. If you feel drowsy pull in where possible and try to take a power nap . Try do drink some coffee or tea to get some caffeine into your system, or indeed the special caffeine tablets you can get from a chemist. Avoid driving at night and when daytime driving take 2 hour breaks when on a long journey.

Sleepy Drivers; Finally take another driver to talk to if possible, this will help break the boredom and split up your journey thus reducing the risk of sleepiness and possibly an accident.

We at Pellon tyres hope this blog is helpful advice, keep checking your tyres and you can buy online at www.pellontyres.co.uk at internet prices.

Apollo Winters -When To Fit Your Winter Tyres?

Apollo Winters

Apollo Winters

Winter tyres are very important for drivers who generally drive in icy, slushy and snowy conditions and also for those who drive in areas are prone to very low temperatures and large snow falls yea…

Apollo Winters

eric roberts‘s insight:

Apollo Winter Tyres

This is the time of year in early November that we should be thinking about fitting Apollo Winters. Winter tyres come in all sizes and makes.

Winter tyres are made from special compounds. Working best at temperatures of 7 degrees or less. Of course, most of the UK experiences temperatures below this between December and February. Hence, we can usually expect frost on almost half the days of winter. With this type of tyre, your stopping distance can be shortened by up to 11 meters.Especially, on icy roads, and your vehicle’s handling will be greatly improved. Thus, reducing the risk of skidding, aquaplaning or sliding.

In winter, the condition and performance of your tyres is extremely important. Winter tyres have a specially designed tread and composition. So,in order to provide the most effective grip.Including, handling and safety for drivers. It’s an excellent idea, therefore, to change to specialist tyres to improve your winter driving. Also, increase your fuel efficiency and ensure the safety of you and your passengers during the winter months. popular ones that we sell here at Pellon tyres in the foothill of the Pennine mountain range, here in West Yorkshire UK, are the mid-range winter tyres. These come in some well-known tyre manufacturer names such as Yokohama tyres and Apollo Winters. These brands are well respected and tried brands of tyres and have been well proven by hundreds of my own customers over the years in bad wintry conditions.

The cheap tyres brands also do well, including Infinity winter tyres and Jinyu winter tyres, all of which are kept in stock, for the winter period. But now in early November is the time to start fitting your winter tyres, the weather can change overnight. We have just experienced our first heavy frost so the snow will not be far behind.

Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and tyre and Battery business now for 40 years.

Tyre Labels Regulations- Drivers are now taking more Notice of Them

Tyre Labels Regulations

Tyre Labels Regulations; New European tyre labels yet another cost to business forced onto us by Brussels

As if wasn’t enough David Cameron was telling all of us small businesses that he was going to “cut red tape”, he has imposed a new EU law onto us called a standardised consumer label so

Tyre Labels Regulations

Tyre Labels Regulations; consumersThis Michelin car tyre has a highly rated B and B ratio users. That can choose for themselves which product is for their car. “I don’t think so”. Most of my customers here at Pellon tyres in Halifax. Come to us because they trust us. How could you trust a Tyre Labels Regulations on a tyre made in China?. I suspect not. As an update, we are finding that to my surprise.

Hence, our customers are taking some notice of what the new labels are telling them. Tyre manufacturers are also trying to improve their products. Even some Cheap Car Tyre makers are bringing out products with better standards. Thus, according to the labels. In general, though it is the big tyre manufacturers that are winning. Customers look up the ratings before they buy a tyre. Therefore, it is the big boys. Such as Michelin and Continental that are having the most success.

Tyre Labels Regulations

Tyre Labels Regulations; new label (easy)

The new system is supposed to be in place for November this year(2012). As a result is intended to help the motorist to choose a rating. Naturally, that has got low emissions and dare I say it better road safety. The same Europe that allows people to sell possible killers. As a result, called “Part worn tyres”, these don’t even have to have Tyre Labels Regulations. Surprise surprise !!!.

WE will now have to have an efficiency label on tyres that display three main points, Rolling resistance, Wet grip and Fuel efficiency. The new tyre label will value from A-G, but not D.I will try to explain what each group means.

What the new Tyre Labels Regulations means (hope you can take it in)

 ROLLING RESISTANCE

This covers A to G Dis not used, rolling resistance of the tyre and contributes most to fuel efficiency and therefore reduces CO2 emissions and also driving costs. Each letter has a difference plus or minus of 0.42 to 0.56 miles per gallon(mpg) for a car that will do 36 mpg. (I hope you are still paying attention)

WET GRIP

“Wet grip is what it says on the tin” how good is the car at stopping in wet driving conditions and is expressed as the “stopping distance”. The letters used for this are A to G not using D or G, (are you still awake), the stopping distance between 3 and 7 feet when you brake hard at 50 mph. We have had this measured on our forecourt now for five years and no one has ever tried it out yet.

NOISE

The noise that the tyre makes,(nothing to do with our lousy road surfaces its the tyres fault) and is measured in decibels. The more black bars on your Tyre Labels Regulations, the noisier the tyre tread is.

In my opinion, this is more red tape from Brussels, and I will stress that the customer should take advice from his local dealer.

As an update to the tyre label introduction, i must say that I am pleasantly surprised to see that the motoring public is now showing lots of interest in these names and they are influencing the purchasing decisions of the tyre buying public, I hold my hands up, and I was WRONG?
