Checking your air pressure could get you out of a sticky situation

only have to be in the wrong time and the wrong place, for an accident to happen. When our cars are in good condition and serviced at regular intervals we have a better chance of getting out of a sticky situation when driving.

AT first I did not want to blog this accident because of the fatalities

but I think it important to point out that these things happen and it could be that if this car had good tyres at the correct Air Pressure, then the outcome could have been different. We in the tyre trade are always preaching to motorists about checking their tyres and tyre pressure, but accidents like this are proof that bad things can happen if you do not service your car and check the tyres at regular intervals .

Most tyre experts and motoring organisations are very concerned about the amount of part worn tyres are now fitted here in the UK. The latest motoring organisation to voice their opinion is the very respectful Motorcodes, of which we at Pellon tyres are members (and proud to be so).

 

These Part Worn Tyres Expensive are generally imported from countries such as Germany, where tyres are generally removed at 3 mil. These Part Worn Tyres Expensive look fine from the outside but there is no saying what Part Worn Tyres Expensivedamage lies under the surface of the tread and could be very dangerous indeed. We are effectively buying old tyres from Germany, the tyres that the Germans throw away as no good any more, I cant believe that we would do such a thing. In 1994 part worn tyres came under a law called the “Motor Vehicle Tyres Safety Regulations”, these regulations were to ensure that part worn tyres were properly tested and labelled as such, if people buy tyres that have been tested then this is deemed as ok and suitable for the use on roads, but the Part Worn Tyres Expensive we have come across do not appear to have any checks on them and no label. All part worn tyres must be labelled as such. They must have the words ‘PART- WORN’ marked in capital letters. This must be permanent and legible. (I think this is to give other road users the chance to get out of the way

The UK authorities that regulate garage services and repairs here in the UK.Thus, have at last come up with a better way to control bad practice throughout the UK motor industry.Many systems were implicated in trying to regulate garage services.Including, repairers and car sales outlets for un- lawful practices. But this did not stop dodgy traders from breaking the rules. So and taking their customers to the cleaners.hence,  by not carrying out the correct repairs or not doing the work they were expected to do. Some garages were supposed to conduct garage services, but Motorcodes Membershipnever even touched the car, a complete rip off.

Most people have heard of horror stories. Therefore, the motor industry has had bad press. I personally as an “honest” garage owner do not think this will ever change.I think there will always be dodgy dealers in the motor trade.Consequently, willing to rip people off. Motorcodes will help ease this problem with higher standards set for the garage business.

Over the years many different organisations have come formed trying to regulate the garage trade. But it seems that their members are always joined by the same, ” Good garages“. The majority of garages and car dealers and auto centres are honest and genuine people, who are just out to earn a decent living. Especially in the private sector.

Most garage owners are very hard working individuals. Thus, who run their businesses honestly. Hence, offering the “local community” an excellent and honest deal on garage services.  One of the first “regulatory bodies” to control garages. Was “Trading Standards”. Garages who joined could attend meetings at a local facilities.Therefore, to discuss ways and means to offer a better garage services, but this did not stop the bad guys, as they only did not join, I think though that this was a move in the right direction.

However due to the recession. Because of the Government cut backs in the nineties. This scheme was scrapped to be, and other private organisation sprung up, These were driven by companies that were also promoting garage services products, such as oils and other engine products, in other words, you had to buy their goods to be in the club. In my opinion, this was not a satisfactory situation, and many of these schemes fell by the wayside.

“Motorcodes Membership” is a better system that helps to create an improved image for the motor trade and garage services, this time, I have a feeling it will be more successful.

Eric Roberts MD of Pellon-auto centre has recently attended a regional meeting of Unipart Car Care Centres (UCCC). This was in a hotel in Wakefield West Yorkshire. New plans that mean that Pellon Autocentre Joins Unipart was unveiled to upgrade their new image to the garage members.

UCCC Members will be offered complete new signage. Consequently, by using Unipart’s new updated logo. This logo is very similar to the present one. Because it appeared that only a slight modification to upgrade. Eric Roberts says “The new image looks very stylish. Although there is not lots of change, the new design will look very useful. Especially, when bonded together with all the other promotional effects that will be on offer to us.

Our garages images are in the Unipart style and colours.”
Unipart will still provide their garage network with their website design service to help its individual garages build their website. This service will be subsidised by Unipart, rolling on from the old system. This offer has been taken up by over 500 garages and has become a favourite feature to the garages in the scheme.
Motorcodes will still play a significant part in Unipart’s big changes; this will ensure an excellent standard of quality across the complete network. Therefore, is crucial when offering a nationwide warranty service to the networks customers.

This is no doubt going to be one of the most successful consumer protection schemes that were brought out in the garage World. In the past, we only had the Trading Standards system to protect the motorist from been let’s say “taken for a ride”, by corrupt and dodgy garage owners. In the last few years various Government schemes had been tried out here in the UK, and to an extent, there have been some real systems. Most of these though were tied to buying car servicing products, which in my mind did not stop with the spirit of things.

We in the garage trade needed a transparent system to link up the garage with the customer, in a case of any disputes that may arrive during the service or repair of the client’s car. Motorcodes came along and in my mind was the ideal vehicle to sort out any differences that may have risen while the garage was in charge of repairing their car.

Also, other things were in the Motorcodes good practice scheme. One of them is that each participating garage must have regular inspections. These include a fair pricing system that is transparent to the motorist. We at Pellon Autocentre in Halifax UK, do not carry out any work to a customer’s car. This is unless the client is notified of the price and understands  about the work that we are carrying out, if they are any ad don’s that were not foreseen, then the customer will be contacted again, and we will explain the reason for the extra charge, this way there should be no surprises when the client receives their final invoice.

That we may have changed, this makes the whole thing transparent and ensures tiny disputes or falling out with the customer, we are all aware that repairing cars can be a distressing time for customer when they leave their vehicle with you, so all this good code of practice, helps towards a better all round experience for the under pressure motorists all part of being a member of Motorcodes, in my opinion, the best garage standard organisation out there at the moment and we at Pellon are proud to be members.
