Yokohama tyres , Kumho follow MoU up with R&D master agreement

The Board of Directors at Yokohama Rubber and Kumho Tire have resolved to enter into master technological alliance agreement.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Yokohama tyres-Kumho tyres-

This one took me by surprise?

I must admit this one came as a shock to me at first. I have spent much time with the staff at both companies but nothing was said, byEither Yokohama tyres or Kumho tyres. So I guess that this was just one of those high level agreements that were kept hush- hush.

In my own business here in Halifax we have had close ties with both of these tyre companies, and in fact we sell both Yokohama tyres and Kumho tyres side by side, in recent years. I regard both companies as tyre innovators and thinking about it I can see where they are coming from, as the saying goes, “two brains are better than one”. The companies have apparently being discussing the exchange of technologies, with the future possibility of future shared ownership.

This move would take the joint company up the tyre manufacturers ranking table. At the moment the two company’s rank 8th  with over $5.5 billion sales is Yokohama tyres and  is Kumho with sales of over $3.5 Billion ranking 12th in the league table, so a joint venture would put the new company in the top 6 placing’s and will become  a force to reckon

with.

A Yokohama tyres spokesman said… By exchanging technology, the companies “aim to increase their competitiveness and enhance their growth potential … by sharing R&D resources and making more effective use of them through joint research and development on tires and related technologies,”

The deal is said to be in advance stages and both companies are looking to find a method of obtaining each other’s shares, a definite sign that talks are well on their way and the tyre companies are expected to sign legal binding contracts sooner than later.

I do not know how this will filter down to the grass roots fitting centres but in my opinion the other tyre manufacturers will be looking over their shoulders at the potential that Yokohama tyresthese two great companies will no doubt research and develop in new tyre products and move to a mid-range tyre to a leading brand, with more and more OE fitments on the way.

Eric Roberts

Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and tyre and Battery business now for 40 years. I have worked for a couple for national tyre companies in my younger days, before starting my first business. I now own a company here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre, and I am a keen blogger about anything to do with cars and their related products that will help my business. We are members of Point-S and Motor-Codes and are also a Unipart Car Care Centre and of course Tyre-safe.

Indeed, the top three finishers using Kumho tyres. They were, Declan Gallagher (Toyota Starlet), Michael Conlon (Ford Escort) and John Lynch (Ford Escort). “Billy Coleman Young Driver Of The Year 2014’ Dean Raftery had never driven a WRC car before achieving a memorable 6th place overall on last weekend’s (February 6-8) Colm Quinn BMW Galway Rally at the wheel of a Kumho Tyres Finish First-shod BMW Mini. The result was all the more remarkable for the fact that he and co-driver Mark Kane had dropped as low as 18th on the opening day, following time lost to a loose water pipe. Undeterred, the 23-year-old put in a remarkably mature drive, setting a string of top five stage times to finish just four places behind the sister Mini of his illustrious team-mate, five-times Irish rally champion Eugene Donnelly. Raftery’s Colm Quinn-sponsored car was prepared by McGeehan Motorsport and ran on Kumho CO3 and TW02 rally tyres supplied by local motorsport dealer, Ears Motorsport Ireland”.

BMW Runflat tyres-“How they Work” they really are a great safety feature.

BMW Runflat tyres  are now a common feature on today’s modern cars. This advice is given by Pellon tyres of Halifax West Yorkshire.

Higher safety levels with BMW Runflat tyres

Here at Pellon tyres we sell all types of car tyres. Of course, including the BMW Runflat tyres. Thus, found on many of today’s BMW and Mini cars. The usual thing that happens when confronted with having to buy

BMW Runflat tyres

The difference between a runflat tyre and a normal tyre

replacement runflat tyres. of course,is the moaning customer complaining about the cost. This is from people who have bought second or third hand cars.Accordingly, such as BMW minis or older BMW’s and Mercedes saloons.

I suppose you can’t really blame them in these days of recession. Of course, the idea of BMW Runflat tyres was to give the car added safety features.Because, that’s what these tyres do. So it’s understandable that the price of the tyre is more expensive. Because the tyre has more materials in during their manufacture. As a result, with research and development costs to recover.

The runflat tyres have special side walls that are made to take the weight or your can when driven on in a deflated state. (IN OTHER WORDS IF YOU HAVE A PUNCTURE, THE TYRE WILL NOT TEAR UP AND ALLOWS YOU TO GET HOME AT A LOWER SPEED).

If you have a puncture this will sometimes be detected by a tyre deflation warning light.(TPMS) Some drivers are not even aware that they have a puncture, only noticing later that the tyre “looks flat”.

BMW Runflat tyres

If you have a flat tyre do not travel long distances or at high speeds. You can check the correct speed from your local tyre dealer or tyre manufacturers, the usual limit is 50mph but check this out for yourself, check for the speed and distance, then you can travel home safely with the flat tyre. Check your runflat tyres regularly

It is important to check all tyres on a regular basis. Thus, preferably at least every week. This is especially important with runflat tyres. If you don’t have a TPMS system you will not notice that the tyre may be flat or at best have low pressure. When run on, “under inflated” tyres may cause the “inner tyre” to be damaged without detection. But this will be detected with regular pressure checks.

To sum up the BMW Runflat tyres are a great invention. But, I can foresee that all cars will have this safety feature in the future. You must expect to pay more for your runflat tyres because you are getting much more for your money and check your pressures at a regular interval at all times, remember you don’t have a spare wheel.

Kumho tyres offer an excellent runflat tyre.

Best 4x4 Tyres

Best 4×4 Tyres

Tyre manufacturers and the automobile companies work hard. This is to develop the correct tyre for your vehicle. Best 4×4 Tyres that are produced for all vehicles including 4X4 and SUV vehicles are thoroughly tested in all conditions. Probably ,before the vehicles are released into the public domain.
Consequently, most of the Best 4×4 Tyres  developed are for mainly on road driving. Some come  with a small amount of off road capability, but the main emphasis is form the vehicle to have stability with good steering and low noise levels when driving on the road. Such vehicles would be perhaps Land Rover Discoveries.
A problem may occur when a more demanding situation requires a more demanding product. Such an occurrence may happen, say for a Farmer or any person working in a rural environment.

A different type of the Best 4×4 Tyres would be required for this situation. The tyre most likely to react to this situation would be an A/T (all-terrain) . Most noteworthy, these types  are  made by several tyre manufacturers, including General, and Kumho .

Furthermore, one of our best selling, if not the best selling on/off road tyres is the Best 4×4 Tyres General AT2. This all-terrain tyre has been designed with an aggressive, self-cleaning tread pattern that will give the driver of these vehicles much off-road traction, durability and impressive tarmac road performance.

Best 4×4 Tyres

  • 5-row tread pattern with multiple traction edges
  • Directional double v-shaped tread pattern
  • Highly-engineered acoustic tread pattern
  • Snowflake approved and this tyre can be studded.
Benefits

  • Allows the aggressive tread pattern to remain quiet during road and highway driving
  • Select sizes meet the severe snow service requirements of the RMA and RAC

It is also possible to fit different sizes  to your vehicle and indeed different sized wheels  can be fitted in sets. Another thing, this would be no problem for our experts on the help desk. Therefore this is one of the many reason that give us at Pellon tyres an advantage over other tyre companies, we can just telephone our help desk, to answer every 4×4   problem or fitments query.
