Motorcycle Battery Charging-Dont Forget to Charge yours in Winter ?

Important notice

hi there is new regulations about sending out ACID PACKS in the post from 1st of July 2018. So, at the moment we are trying to update all our products that include an acid pack ? We are only a small company so it will take some time to do. At the moment only people collecting batteries can buy a battery with an acid pack. The alternative is to buy an motorcycle AGM battery which are good to be sent out.

I am once again sorry about this but it is now a legal requirement. If we continue to send them out we are in danger of a hefty fine. However we are now looking at a sealing machine and then will be able to send the batteries out with the acid inside. Unfortunately, the sealing equipment would not seal the batteries . Therefore we are still looking for a solution to this problem. Eric Roberts MD

Motorcycle Battery Charging;Your motorcycle battery should not be neglected

This is the time of year that motorbike owners will be storing their motorbikes away for winter. So dont forget about your Motorcycle Battery Charging . Some motorbike riders will opt to carry on riding theirs even in the winter to get to work on. Specially in towns and cities where the roads are gritted and cleared of slush and snow pretty quickly.

In most of the country though bikers will store their bikes and use other forms of transport. Of course, for safety reasons. Also the dark nights come into the equation. It is less safe to ride motor cycles on the long winter dark nights than it is in summertime. Car drivers are the danger here, sometimes they just do not see bikers in the bad light?.

The over whelming number of bikers though. Consequently, store away their motorbikes in the winter period. One very important thing to think about, is what to do with your Motorcycle Battery Charging. Believe it or not thousands of bikers just leave their Motorbike Battery stood over the winter period without any form of charging or maintenance. The bike will generally be stored in a cold shed or garage .

Cold weather has a very large impact on your batteries which can even freeze in a very cold winter, we were amazed a couple of year ago when the temperature dropped to minus 10 degrees just how many car and motorcycle batteries actually froze up. These lead acid batteries failed of course and this is what happens to one that is left un-charged in the winter months.Motorcycle Battery Charging

How to store your motorcycle battery

When you store your bike it is best to disconnect your battery and give it a good charge with a small battery charger. Naturally,  a 12 volt 4 amp charger should be good enough for a 12 volt one. You should then check the battery at least once a month. Recharging the battery when possible, also check the acid levels.

By doing this you ensure that when the spring comes and it is time to get the bike out again. Significantly, your bike will start first time and be in a healthy state. It is surprising how many bikers have to buy a new one at the beginning of a new season. Another good gadget now out on the market is an intelligent charger.

This is known as a “connect and forget” these are by “CTEK” and also “NUMAX” and are a good investment to keep your car or Motorcycle Battery Charging in tip top condition whatever the winter throws at us…

Suspension Arm Bolts

Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and tyre and Cheap Motorcycle  Battery business now for 40 years.

Airless Tweel Wheel Tyre-Michelin Tyres Invent Airless “Tweel Tyre”,Now used on Plant vehicles.

For as long as we can remember tyres of all shapes and sizes have always to filled with air-filled rubber tubing. This is to put it to its simplest terms. As a result, the latest tyre designs are a far cry from the old cycle tyres.  Mr Michelin first made these in France well over 100 years ago.

Michelin looks for models for the future

Airless Tweel Wheel Tyre

Airless Tweel Wheel Tyre substitute will now be available for many of the small urban vehicles. These are used in cities across Europe. They will replace the conventional rubber tyres .

as a result, almost all the leading tyre companies are looking for the concept tyre designs for future urban cars and Michelin tyres are no exception. The first idea started to come out of the Michelin Laboratories in about 2005. The new concept was to become the “Tweel” a simple cross between the tyre and the wheel, this is where the name comes from, the “T” from the tyre and the Airless Tweel Wheel Tyre.

The Airless Tweel Wheel Tyre looks like a giant bicycle wheel, probably a futuristic version of the original solid bicycle wheel that Michelin worked on over 100 years ago. The tweel has a solid hub, with spokes and an outer rim. Materials that are used, will be manufactured, using a polyurethane type substance, which is a hard material and light in weight. The tyre tread is stretch fitted onto the spokes in a rubber band similar to the tyres mounted on fork trucks. This construction looks very solid yet flexible. These have the spokes absorbing all the shocks, just like air would do in a tyre, but having the advantage of “not having punctures”.

Airless Tweel Wheel Tyre

In addition, Michelin, has been testing different cars with the tweel fitted. Furthermore, this  includes the Audi with good handling results. They admit though that they are still in the early stages of development. I think it is good to try other materials to try out to replace rubber products. A large amount of oil, is used for making tyres? and we are running out of oil ?.

560×13 X-ply tyres-Vintage cross ply tyres fitted to these great looking MG cars

Old cars fitted with 560×13 x-ply tyres (takes me back)

560×13 X-ply tyres; On a recent trip to France, I came across some fantastic vintage cars and thought that they would be perfect for one of my blogs.

560x13 X-ply tyres

MG fitted with 560×13 X-ply tyres

The cars were fitted with 560×13 X-ply tyres and reminded me of the time when I was an apprentice mechanic. My first employment as a young mechanic was in a small industrial town in West Yorkshire called Batley. Batley in those days was a very busy mill town and was the home to some famous companies. The best-known company still trades in Batley and is called Fox,s biscuits.

The garage that I worked for was called Phillips Brothers, a small British Leyland garage that repaired most British cars such as MG, and other Leyland marques. As the new lad, I had to fix punctures and fit new tyres; this included the very popular 560×13 X-ply tyres. The tyre service in those days was pretty necessary. Indeed we had to use tyre levers as tyre machines were not available then.

The most standard tyres in those days were 560×13 X-ply tyres

and most were fitted to early M Gs and early Minis . Minis were on 520×10 tyres and then moved onto radial tyres. Foxs biscuits family lived nearby and were one of our best clients, they always bought the latest models out, but would often keep special cars, such as the MG s spotted on my travels which were MG TA and TB. These cars have now become classic vintage sports cars. They were first released in 1936, with a top speed of 78mph and 0-60 in 23 seconds, they could do 28 mile to the gallon and only 3000 were made. In 1939 the TB came out with a new 1250cc engine giving 54 brake horse power, but this model was affected by the breakout of war, leaving only 379 models made. Eric Roberts

Car Lights Missing-it is important to check your lights to make sure that you can be seen.

Car Lights Missing

Have you noticed all the “one eyed monster” with car lights missing

With the nights now getting visibly darker. Then it is just as well that we have well lit roads and well-lit highways. Generally, this is very important. We have probably one of the best after dark road light systems in the developed world.  Car lights are a safety critical aspect of motoring. But it seems that more and more cars are driving on our roads with lights out.

I have often noticed that cars on the continent. Especially France drive about all the time with on or more of their  car lights not working. of course, the cars in France have a slight excuse. Because they only have an Car Lights MissingMOT every two years. Although, this is no excuse ! firstly, because of the safety concerns. Developing  by having car lights out.

I call them “ one-eyed monsters”. Secondly, I feel that drivers have NO excuse for driving about in the dark without the full compliment of light bulbs in working order. Your car lights play a vital role in the safety of your vehicle and indeed other road users including pedestrians.

It is paramount that you check your lights all the time especially in the winter time.

We at Pellon auto centre . Cannot believe the number of cars that are failing the MOT test. Because of light bulbs that are defective. I can not believe the number of cars that I have seen driving along the M62 motorway of poor visibility such as heavy rain or even fog with a head light off; it is entirely irresponsible.

These days many car manufacturers are fitting light bulb warning lights to alert the motorist that a bulb is out this is a great step forward, and it will be a much safer World when all cars have these sensors fitted.

Car Lights Missing;Remember to get your car lights checked out every week there is no excuse its dangerous

I was coming home from Leeds this Sunday and three cars in a row had missing Halogen Light Bulbs and head light bulbs, there is really no excuse for this please get them checked and

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful “Swiss Registered” Bentley With its splendid “white-wall tyres”

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful

Swiss Bentley-Beautiful

Hi while I was on holiday in France recently I came across this wonderful, well kept Bentley in the car park of a French supermarket in a town called Ruffec. Its owner was a short very well dressed and dapper guy who really looked the kind of guy to drive such a car.

Great full white wall tyres fitted

The car was fitted with a set of full side-wall white -wall tyres. A great sight that I have not seen for years. I could see if they were the real thing or just inserts. Most of all they really set the car off, I could have looked but I did not want to be too nosy in the middle of a supermarket car park.

White wall tyres and trims still available

The tyre trims are still available for these cars. I think the car is a Bentley S1 saloon but I am not sure perhaps if you know you could me, as I am very interested in what I can find out about things for my blog when I am out and about. If you could help me my e-mail is ericatpellon@gmail.com my web site is www.pellonautocentre.com
