Caravan Tyre Checking-May has arrived and brought warm sunshine to the UK Tyre Checking time again

Caravan Tyre Checking

Caravan Tyre Checking-Good Information about the Correct Tyre Procedures.

Your caravan tyre pressures should always be checked and adjusted when the tyres are cold before the caravan season and before every journey.

In fact, Eric Roberts owner of Pellon Tyre and Auto Centre in West Yorkshire. Recommends that owner of a trailer and Touring Caravans should remove the entire wheel or wheels and tyres and take them to their favourite garage or auto centre and have them checked by a professional member of the team, this will ensure the safest possible outcome.

Therefore, and checked for internal cuts and damage. This is most important as unseen damage can become a nightmare scenario when going down a motorway at sixty mile per hour and losing complete control due to tyre failure.

The tyre dealer will then check the outside of the for damage to the tread area and the sidewalls for cuts and cracks

Cracks start to form around the rim area. Hence, due to the tyres been stood in the Sun.Thus, for long hours during the Summer months. Eventually, the carbon black, that is used in the manufacture of the tyre. For this reason, begins to break down. Naturally, small but deep cracks start to form around the rim area.Eventually join up to create a very dangerous hazard. Indeed this is one of the most common cause for tyre blowouts on your caravan or Car Trailers.

Any tyres with cracks and cuts should be scrapped and replaced with a new tyre .Finally, if everything is fine, the pressures and tyre valves should be checked to the correct loading for your caravan and trailer.

Caravan Tyre Checking

Caravan Tyre Checking-having his tyres checked before spring

Another important Caravan Tyre Checking point. Is to have the vehicle loading checked on your tyres. Thus,to make sure that the tyres conform to your caravan or trailers recommended weight carrying capacity. Some of the larger heavier vehicles. Require more heavy duty tyres. Thus, to take the additional loading; your tyre dealer will advise you on the correct fitments by recommending you fit stronger ply rated tyres.

Finally, to sum up. You should have your Caravan Tyres Checked by an expert. So try to stick to new tyres if possible. Load your vehicle and trailing vehicle evenly. Thus, to give a more even weight distribution across the axle. Therefore, make sure that your tyres have the correct load rating.Especially, for the loaded weight of your caravan or motorhome. Also, important to fix yourself up with a spare wheel. Hence, that has a tyre to match the ones you have on the vehicle. Most of this is common sense. But we still see piles of wood from crashed caravans on the side of our roads.Especially, in the summertime.

Part Worn Tyres Expensive – “You DO NOT SAVE YOU MONEY in the long run”

Post Updated 19th Dec 2013

Part Worn Tyres Expensive-Proof that part worn tyres work out more expensive in the long run

Most tyre experts and motoring organisations are very concerned about the amount of part worn tyres are now fitted here in the UK. The latest motoring organisation to voice their opinion is the very respectful Motorcodes, of which we at Pellon tyres are members (and proud to be so).

These Part Worn Tyres Expensive are generally imported from countries such as Germany, where tyres are generally removed at 3 mil. These Part Worn Tyres Expensive look fine from the outside but there is no saying what Part Worn Tyres Expensivedamage lies under the surface of the tread and could be very dangerous indeed. We are effectively buying old tyres from Germany, the tyres that the Germans throw away as no good any more, I cant believe that we would do such a thing. Part Worn Tyres Expensive also offer a danger to other motorists on the road, they put other drivers at risk because people think they are saving money.

In 1994 part worn tyres came under a law called the “Motor Vehicle Tyres Safety Regulations”, these regulations were to ensure that part worn tyres were properly tested and labelled as such, if people buy tyres that have been tested then this is deemed as ok and suitable for the use on roads, but the Part Worn Tyres Expensive we have come across do not appear to have any checks on them and no label. All part worn tyres must be labelled as such. They must have the words ‘PART- WORN’ marked in capital letters. This must be permanent and legible. (I think this is to give other road users the chance to get out of the way

Many more part worn tyres are now sold because of the economic recession. A recent excellent survey regarding how cheap a part worn tyre really is has been studied and written by a tyre industry expert Stuart Carr. I have posted a link to Stuarts blog and I hope you will click to see that

part worn tyres cost “MORE” than new tyres in the long run in real terms

To finalise any garage that are in Motorcodes will not endorse the sale of part worn tyres.

Firestone Whitewall Tyres on this Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud 1 a Gem on Firestone Tyres

Firestone Whitewall Tyres

Finest Firestone Whitewall Tyres for this car

Firestone Whitewall Tyres

Superb silver cloud is sporting a new set of whitewall tyres from Firestone. These tyres are not the original equipment. Rolls Royce come out on Avon or Dunlop tyres, but the Firestone Whitewall Tyres sure look good.

One of the good things running a garage these days. As expected, you never know what car will turn up at any given time.

Today was no exception. Thus, we had a 1950’s Rolls-Royce Cars presented to us for a MOT test.Hence,  the car was on 820×15 vintage Firestone Whitewall Tyre .Accordingly, the car was a Silver Cloud mk1 made between 1955 and 1958 and ran on a straight six engine. Of course, it had a chassis that made of box steel section which was a robust and rigid construction. Much of the rest of the car was made of light alloy to keep down the weight.

The gearbox was a four-speed automatic. Naturally, the brakes were servo assisted. Equipped, with power steering and air conditioning.Which becoming an option in the later models. The car weighed in at nearly two tonnes and did only about fifteen miles to the gallon and 0 to 60 in about fourteen seconds Tyres were an option the original make was Dunlop tyres, but Firestone Whitewall Tyres also made the 820×15 size.

It is always a great pleasure service cars like this and I would like to thank John Horsfield for bringing these excellent cars to us and for trusting them in our care.

We also sell Firestone Whitewall Tyres on   www.pellonautocentre.com.

Tractor Tyres-fall off a truck-Causing fatal injury to a Lady Driver.

Tractor Tyres

Tractor Tyres

Police in Ontario, Canada are looking for the driver of a truck that lost its load of a “tractor tyres”.

The Tractor Tyres came off the truck and bounced straight into the front of a car driven by a lady

consequently, the driver was called Miroslawa Chmielewski, she was the only person in the car and died at the scene. Firs,t of all, the accident took place in Burlington on the Queen Elizabeth way where the 54-year-old female lost her life. This incident reminds me of a former time when I was an earthmover tyre fitter. We regularly went to Quarries in North Yorkshire to fit the huge tyres that fit Monster Trucks and dumper trucks. The route we took was up the A1 trunk road; we would load the tyres to be fitted onto our trucks and then set off to fit them (about a 2-hour drive) the tyres were massive, so the trucks were up to the maximum weight limit.

One very beautiful sunny day I set off up the A1 about six in the morning, I got about halfway there when I noticed that my truck was starting to go a bit faster, not thinking why, I carried on the journey, only to be pulled up by a police car with flashing lights. He shouted at me in a very grumpy voice that “I had lost half my load of tyres,” when I returned to where they were, I realized how lucky is was that there were no causalities, in fact, the tyres had bounced straight into the field .

I recovered the tyres and carried on my journey.

What happened in the accident in Canada, was that the driver went missing, but he would have continued the journey, not realizing that he had lost the tyre off the back of the truck, so far he has not been detected.

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres-Excellent for Puncture free Plant Hire vehicles.

Tokyo Motorshow unveils the new Bridgestone Air Free Tyres

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres-A brand new concept. Has appeared at the Toyota Motor  Show, Thus, a brand new tyre that does not need any air the Airless Tyre . The new tyre is made of totally different materials.Especially, to the  conventional tyres made of rubber compounds.

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres

Bridgestone Air Free Tyres-new Bridgestone concept tyre and wheel in one

For this reason, they are  made up of Thermo- plastic resins.Hence, this material is very flexible with great durability and is 100% recyclable.

The tyre (if we should call it that) will be free of punctures.Naturally, the run flat concept could be a thing of the past .

Although at this stage I am not sure. Therefore, to the extent that this product has been tested. My own theory. Is that it will be used for tripping around towns on little “green” energy saving cars. Michelin has also developed a similar concept tyres. Thus, called the Tweel as shown in the image.

Bridgestone tyres claim that the new resin that makes the tyres can be melted down and made into new tyres, therefore making the new product much less wasteful than the standard rubber tyres . Another great advantage is that the vehicle that has the tyres fitted will not have to carry a spare, the design means that the tyre can not be punctured,

another great feature by Bridgestone tyres.

Bridgestone tyres are a great innovative tyre company and I admire their attempts to make a better World.  Eric Roberts.

I think that this new design fits well into the need for change that allows this product to fit into a greener and environmental friendly World, but I don’t think it will be the end all of all our problems produced by the rubber tyre, but it is a good start, it will also put people out of work in the service industry, but we will have a cleaner Planet. MICHELIN-UNIROYAL TYRES – Self Repairing Tyres from these tyre companies

MICHELIN-UNIROYAL TYRES

Never forget that you’re unique, just like everyone else.

MICHELIN-UNIROYAL TYRES; introduce the Worlds first tyre that repairs itself.

MICHELIN-UNIROYAL TYRES

The total commitment to motorsport has enabled the French tyre company to come up with new ideas and safer products.

This tyre is lined with a  special tread compound. Thus, that can repair a minor penetration of the tyres. Of course within a minute of the object entering the tyre. The tyre is in fact sealed instantly.Naturally, with the minimum loss of the air pressure inside the tyre.

The tyre itself does not loose any of the great benefits. As expected, the new tyre does not have any negative affects. hence such as low mileage caused by the new compound.

MICHELIN-UNIROYAL TYRES

Michelin tyres cross section

Michelin tyres also bring up a good point. Naturally, about this new tyre being environmentally friendly. So they also bring up the point that the new tyre will not have to be replaced. Thus, when a minor puncture occurs. Hence, saving the necessity to buy a new tyre. I am a bit skeptical about this point , but I may be proven wrong in time as Michelin are a great tyre and would not try things out without many months of testing the new product. The giant French tyre company have recently brought out another great product called the Michelin P ZERO runflat tyre, to add to its safety tyre range along with this self repairing tyre range.

MICHELIN-UNIROYAL TYRES say “this could be a reason for not needing a spare tyre”.

Comments from Michelin tyres say that the most likely market for their new tyre will be in Asia, as this part of the world has more punctures than other parts of the world.Consequently, these tyres are available online at www.pellontyres.co.uk members of Tyresafe.org

Right to Repair Law- Could Brexit Affect our Right to repair Laws?

Right to Repair Law

Right to Repair Law;The European unions block exemption rules regarding “garage servicing” came up for revue in May 2010.

The reform was all about setting new rules to take into account the intensity of competition on the markets for the distribution of motor vehicles and spare parts. Also for the provision of repair and maintenance services. It covers cars, trucks and buses, and all types of garage small or large.

The Commission found that competition in the market for the sale of new vehicles is strong. In this light, the current sector-specific rules create an unnecessary straitjacket that prevents

Right to Repair Law

right to repair symbol

car manufacturers from organising their distribution systems as they see fit. The European Commission has therefore aligned the rules applicable to motor vehicle distribution. This applies with those that apply to distribution agreements in other sectors but with a three-year transition period to allow dealers to adapt to the new measures.

Right to Repair Law

Competition on the markets for repair and maintenance and for spare parts distribution is less intense. This is a risk to consumers who may be harmed by anti-competitive practices. This could push up Car Repair Costs when Servicing a Car. The garage Repair and maintenance industry is very important for consumers. Not only for reasons of safety and reliability. But also because repair bills account for 40% of the total cost to car owners. Unlike car prices, the cost of the average repair job and  servicing has actually risen over the past years.

Consumers are feeling the effect of rising repair bills. This also includes  servicing costs during the present crisis. They are more price-sensitive and drive older vehicles that require more regular maintenance. The EU Commission has put in place a tougher regime for these markets. They will make it easier to enforce the rules. Particular problematic issues include holding back technical information and not releasing spare parts, and refusing to honour warranties when consumers have their cars repaired at independent garage servicing facilities.

Independent garages and repairers such as Pellonautocentre are important because they give more choice to consumers. This helps to keep the price of  servicing and repairs competitive by putting pressure due to competitive pricing against main dealers. Also to  authorised repair networks. But for this to happen it is essential that garages can get the

car servicing

car servicing costs would remain stable

technical information necessary to do the repairs and carry out the work on increasingly sophisticated cars with increasing amounts of technology.

Right to Repair Law

Withholding “technical information” will be dealt with directly under the EU Treaty rules on restrictive business practices (Article 101) since. The manufacturers , spare parts and repair shops generally have a larger market share in excess of 30%. In addition, Guidelines also being brought in contain detailed clarifications. As to the notion of technical information, cross-referring to Regulation 715/2007 on type approval of certain cars and all subsequent implementing regulations.

New rules will assure that garage servicing companies have access to technical information for models which are type-approved after 1 September 2009. By making a clear link with the 2007 car type-approvals Regulation. The EU Commission will ensure both consistency as regards access to technical information. For cars put in circulation before that date and allow the presentation of technical information to evolve and continue in line with technical progress.

The EU Commission remains committed to vigorously enforce the rules on access to technical information. This was demonstrated in four cases brought in 2007. This was to ensure that car manufacturers disclose the necessary information to independent repairers and garage servicing facilities. Garages the likes of Pellonautocentre.in the Calderdale area of West Yorkshire.

Right to Repair Law

By strengthening the enforcement of competition rules. Including the garage servicing sector and maintenance and spare parts markets. These new laws will contribute to creating a level playing field between car manufacturers and spare part producers and garage servicing.  Thus contribute to lower prices for spare parts. This has to be very good news for the garage servicing , garage repair and spare parts industry. This result must give great pride. To all the different groups and individuals that spent hard earned money lobbying and writing to their EU and local Mps. These new laws are similar to the “right to repair” laws in the USA.

The new “Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation“,  will continue to help lower the cost of” GARAGE SERVICING”for 13 years until 2023.

The EU Commission will constantly monitor the situation in the markets for motor vehicle and spare parts distribution, as well as in the market for the provision of repair and maintenance services including garage servicing companies. The EU Commission will also monitor the application of the Regulation, in cooperation with National Competition Authorities and stakeholders. Once again the UK garage and motor industry can continue to work hard and give the public the service and competitive pricing they deserve.

Eric Roberts Pellon Tyre and Autocentre thinks that the Right to Repair Law, coming from the EU will be kept when our government decides on which legislation to keep and throw out.

Which 4×4 Tyres?Changing your 4×4 tyres can lead to a whole new experience

Of course, there is probably nothing wrong with the with the ones that are fitted as original equipment to your 4×4 vehicle. So,the companies that make these cars link together with tyre manufacturers. Naturally, in both research and development to create the 4×4 Tyres will suite your vehicle best. The product that they choose will , be of one that gives excellent performance and comfort for  the average 4×4 driver, as the vehicles are sold to a cross-section of the public.

This, however, does not cater for all the different conditions that this type of vehicle is capable of much more complicated tasks. Average class SUV  drivers usually need the car to have mainly on-road tributes, combined with a little off-road driving. His main driving priorities would be the speed with little noise, the same as a standard type car.

Which 4×4 Tyres

For any deviation from the norm, tyre manufacturers have developed their products into 4×4 tyres that give the driver different responses and attributes in the handling and performance of their individual ones. A typical example of this would say the farmer. He would need a vehicle to get him to say the cattle or sheep markets with a relatively high degree of comfort, but at the same time may have to travel over a rough area to attend to an injured animal. In his case, he is going to need much tougher ones than the guy who has an off road vehicle but just nips to the office or takes the kids to school.

It is also worth pointing out that by using experts, you will be able to get comprehensive advice on not only the type of tyre you need but the correct size and weight loading’s, critical things to know about. We have a full team of specialist 4×4 tyre technicians to back us up here at Pellon tyres.

TYRE WEAR-What you should be looking for on your tyres

TYRE WEAR

TYRE WEAR

Your TYRE wear should be checked once a week

Most ladies are not sure about checking  there tyres for wear. Come to think of it , neither do most men. So.the easiest way is to call into your local tyre and auto centre. of course, they would be only too pleased to check them for you.

You must look for premature uneven tyre wear. This is usually the first sign of a problem with your steering geometry. Consequently, could even indicate a major problem with the cars steering and, or suspension. Naturally, the first sign is that you will see a bald area appearing at the inside or the outside of your front tyres.

So, if you do notice that the tyre is wearing off at one side. Of course, it is important that you have your wheel alignment checked and adjusted.

If your tyre is wearing at the centre then you are running you tyres with too much pressure. For this reason, this needs to be adjusted. With the attention to making sure that  the correct pressure used for your model of car. Some cars nowadays have fall our wheels aligned, this means that the cars rear as well as front wheels may need adjusting, this is particularly common on the modern SUV type vehicles and 4x4s. This regular visual checking will also save you money as a new tyre for these types of vehicles will cost you well over £120 these days ,.

By having each one checked at regular intervals you will spot uneven  wear at an early stage and prevent damaged and expensive parts from becoming dangerous and costly. Most lady customers and indeed male customers can call into a local, reputable  dealer and have a free inspection by one of the staff. There is no excuses.

Another way that you may about a tyre problem is if you car tends to pull the left or right.

This is only spotted when a new tyre is fitted. Of course, when  the customer drives their car on the road for the first time. Firstly, the car steering wheel feels out of line. Pulling the vehicle to one side. Secondly, this is why you should have your Laser Wheel Alignment checked out. Especially, after you have had a new tyre or new tyres fitted. In other words, most garages have now got Wheel Alignment Machines .

customers do not understand the amount of hard work a tyre does. Including, how much punishment tyres take. In the light of them zooming down the motorway at 80 miles a hour. So you see why its so important to check yours  at regular intervals. safety is paramount!  tyres are the only things between you and an accident. Customers in the Halifax area of West Yorkshire can call in at any time for a free check.
