MOT Garages that are removed from MOT testing scheme to be made public

MOT Garages

DVSA have agreed with Ministers to make the information publicly available following the announcement by Justine Greening MP in 2012, of the Governments’ commitment to the Garage Customer Experience.

eric roberts‘s insight:

I as the owner of an MOT Garages testing station,

are not quit sure  what this will achieve. I know that there are thousands of garages who claim that they do MOT testing but in fact do not. What they do is to take the car to an

approved MOT Garages testing station and have what we call”a trade test” carried out.

I am not saying that the car will not be tested correctly, but the test is not carried out by the garage and the car is not in their control. If the driver has an issue then he can not take it up directly with the testing station.

Customers should look out for the official MOT testing sign,

the same as the one in my picture. Some garages have sort of look alike signs, but are not official testing stations.

I can only think that garages who have lost their  license to test cars because of a bad disciplinary record, still carry on taking cars in for testing, but have a trade test done at another official testing station, under the pretense that they still have a testing license, or simply do not remove their MOT Garages signs as if their still testing.

A list of banned testing sites will be published but i wonder who will read them?.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Contrary to this article we find that UK customers DO buy winter tyres

Bridgestone tyres have indeed brought out  new Bridgestone Blizzard Winters. In my opinion this is a step that the other leading tyre makers are making, a more varied amount of winter products.

One of our biggest sellers here in Halifax was Yokohama “W” winter tyres they were very popular sellers.

Another reason that I do not agree with this article is because we are now much more conscious about changing our summers  with winters  because of the colder winters that we are now experiencing.

We have now been operating a “winter tyre hotel” for the past three years, not only does it work for us but it keeps in touch with our customers at least twice a year when they come in for theirs changing.

Bridgestone Tyres introduce a new SUV Winter Tyre

Blizzak SUV winter tyre LM-80

Bridgestone have upgraded their SUV winter tyres range to include the Blizzak LM-80 EVO. Although these tyres have been out a couple of years now, they have proved to be a leader in the SUV winter tyre market.

The old words when describing Bridgestone Blizzard Winters certainly flow when introducing this wonderful tyre product. In line with most other tyre manufacturers, Bridgestone Blizzard Winters have designed

Bridgestone Blizzard Winters

these with many sipe patterns to help get rid of the slush and wet that we associate with bad winter driving conditions. They have also added silica to the tyre compound to enable them  to remain flexible when driving in freezing temperatures.

The design is topped up with by adding  a centre rib and extra shoulder  blocks to the  tread area, for extra strength when cornering, giving these larger vehicles better handling and wet braking when driving in winter conditions. Here is some advice about driving in  winter conditions.

Car Repair Garages-This is the way forward for car repair garages? ChipsAway in Abingdon puts customers first.

Car Repair Garages

Smart receptions in the car repair garages like this should be the norm in 2013

If your heart sinks every time you know that a trip to the Car Repair Garages for a minor car  repair garages, scuff or dent repair is needed, you’re not alone. (Is this the way forward for car repair garages? ChipsAway in Abingdon puts customers first.

For the car repair garages to survive they must have modern facilities for their customers.Car Repair Garages

This is a point I have been making for the past twenty years at least. The American companies were the first to supply their customers with a reception and waiting room for the car repair garages. This was picked up by Tom Farmer when he visited America and on his return home decided that this was the way forward, and implemented the new style reception areas into his early Kwik-fit empire.

After that Car Repair Garages UK all over the UK began to copy his style of operation, but many of the Auto Repair Services and car repair garages were too small and half of them were just back street dirty places and would not have warranted money spending on them. Altogether though it was a huge improvement and many tyre depots and Car Repair Garages where brought into the twentieth century and were fit for motorists to sit in while their car was been repaired, or their tyres were been fitted.

As time went on more and more ladies were taking up driving and the move to step up the facilities in the car repair garages was imminent. The customers wanted a better experience when visiting the garage or tyre depot for work doing on their cars. The main dealer garages started to introduce courtesy cars, to loan to their customers while work was been carried out on their cars, a good idea!

The courtesy car idea became a little tarnished when some of the garages started to charge for their use, or for insurance. I thought this was a negative affect and was not in the spirit of the idea. We at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre in Halifax UK provide courtesy cars for our customers, mainly because we are about two miles out of the town centre, and it allows our customers to go shopping or to work, while their car is been repaired.

Many of the switched on Car Service Garages offer their clients  a free coffee machine in their reception as well as a TV and up-to-date magazines for their entertainment while they are waiting for a Car Repairs or an MOT or a tyre fitting. In my opinion this is what today’s modern consumer wants, this coupled with the fact that as I have said earlier, many of our customers are now ladies and they do not want to turn up to a dirty old Car repair garages in their nice clean clothes.

So this standard is the way forward and any garage or tyre fitting station that does not have customer facilities will fall behind and eventually perish.

opinion . Consequently, it is the young Sound Drivers. This is the category of drivers that we do not see buying  tyres. Or at least new tyres.

There is something happening to make the younger driver want to risk their life. As a result, perhaps they just don’t care about their own safety. Hence, by using Poor tyres and the other road users. We all know the massive cost of insurance policies for young drivers. Subsequently, a young guy who works for me in our tyre department is having to spend £3000 to insure a small Vauxhall Corsa, but young drivers should weight all these things up before they decide to buy a car and take to the road.

The other alternative, “which in my opinion is just as bad “is that perhaps they are buying Poor tyres part worn tyres, or their parents are forever bailing them out. I think the later will be the case, but we still don’t see many young men calling into us to buy new tyres, perhaps you know better ?

Uneven wear indicates the need for a wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. Check the tire pressure and tread depth once a month.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Car care all ties up with the UK tyre safe Month

As October Car Care Month nears the end and the really cold and bad weather approaches, we all still have time to have a real good look at your car tyres. It is important to have the correct tyre pressures, which is essential for your family’s safety when driving on our busy roads. The last thing that a driver wants is to have a tyre blow out on them while driving down a busy Motorway, or in rush hour traffic, so take the first step and please check yourTyre Pressures.

Another point about under inflated tyres is that they  will not last as long, they wear at a quicker rate, without the Correct Pressures. Also you will use

less fuel if your tyres are not at the correct pressures and the car will not handle as good and could cause you to lose control of your car when cornering and braking.

This month, October Car Care Month is the time to start the habit of checking your tyre Air Pressure and then you can get into the habit of checking your tyres on a monthly basis, if you are not sure of how to do this, or some people may not want to get dirty, you can call into your local Tyre Car Care Centre and you will be able to get a FREE tyre check, it is well worth the ten minutes of your time and could save you money on your fuel consumption.

If you are struggling to find a good tyre dealer in Car Care Month, you can do so by looking online to find a member of POINT-S Tyres.

Infinity Tyres Receives UK TAFF Award

Tire Review

“On behalf of everyone at Infinity Tyres, we are delighted and honored to receive this award,” said Harjeev Kandhari, executive director of the global Al Dobowi Group.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Infinity tyres trying to become a mid-range tyre?

Infinity tyres are definitely going places they are following in the footsteps of other mid-range tyre companies such as Kumho and Hankook by taking part in motorsports events. In my opinion the Infinity Tyres product is a good tyre, but they are still sold as a cheap tyre, in other words a budget tyre.

Tyre companies historically would own a second brand that would be sold as budget tyre, but with the advent of the Eastern tyre companies from China Infinity Tyresand South Korea the competition has become tougher for the main tyre brands and names such as Kumho and Hankook are coming to the forefront due to money spent on promotions and the backing of motorsport to promote there tyres, which is now paying off and companies such as Infinity tyres are improving their products and are pushing the big tyre companies for market share.

We are Infinity tyre dealers in the Halifax area of the UK and they are an excellent product, they are imported into the UK by Bond International, who have done a great marketing job at promoting the Infinity product.

WASTE TYRE TALK- 4 Ways to Use an old tyre- to get rid of your spare tyre? and KEEP FIT

WASTE TYRE TALK-Keeping fit using an old car spare tyre

Hot ‘n’ Healthy: Use a spare tyre to lose a spare tyre
Savannah Morning News
WASTE TYRE TALK-Looking for a fun and effective new piece of exercise equipment to burn fat and sculpt lean muscle?

eric roberts‘s insight:

This is a great way to use an old spare tyres.

I have seen ways of using old tyres to keep fit and help to “Get Rid of Spare Tyre” in recent times that remind me of when I was a young tyre fitter in my twenties. I worked for a

company in Leeds called Kurt Neilds, owned by Goodyear, and fitted Earthmover tyres for a living. The job was fantastic. We lifted and carried the giant tyres on Euclid Earthmovers and other giant plant hire vehicles, such as Cat Earth-movers like the Cat 631s and Terex dump trucks; we were as”fit as fiddles” and got paid for it as well.

I only weighed 11 stone and could eat what I wanted, it is no wonder that the use of tyres has been taken up by sportsmen and women. I was impressed at the way rugby union players can throw the big tyres about, and now it looks like old tyres are being used for the exercises used in this article from the WASTE TYRE TALK-Savannah Morning News. I am too old to take this up now but if anybody would like some old spare tyres to train with, you can have them for free here in Halifax.

Old waste tyres are now used for all sorts of things. One of the main uses is to make them into rubber crumbs so that they can be made into safe flooring for say, children’s play areas, these are replacing wood chippings that were once used and are much safer for the children to play on. The waste tyre industry also supplies rubber pellets to the cement making companies to power their cement drying kilns. Also large amounts of rubber pellets go into the making of tarmac for our roads, to give a more cushioned ride, and a harder wearing surface, when driven on.

Motorcodes new warranty scheme

Hi- to be a member of Unipart car Care centres, we must also be a member of motorcades. Motorcades garage network members have to be vetted by the RAC.

A qualified guy comes to check us from the RAC (Now the AA) and examines our garage and our garage system to see if it conforms to certain standard. This is to ensure that the standard of our workmanship and procedures are up the the high standards that Motorcodes expects.

Motorists should always look out for the nearest motorcodes garage in their area to ensure good workmanship with a guarantee that you can take up motorcodeswith motorcodes should there be a dispute.

To cap it off Motor codes Garage of the Year also have a fair price policy and we always keep the old parts for the customer to look at, all very honest and above board. Motorcodes are all now part of the UK trading Standard organisation. They have also moved from the RAC to the AA for depot accreditation.

Flat Tyres Past Thing -In the Future Self Healing Polymer Will Make Flat Tyres Things of the Past

Remember how the T-100 terminator robot from Terminator 2 could heal itself? Have you ever wondered how cool it would be to own something that would do the same thing, like busted plastic pipes or flat Flat Tyres Past Thing …

eric roberts‘s insight:

Is an end to puncture repairs what the tyres industry want ?

I have been in the tyre business now for a long time. Therefore, one of the things that we do on a daily basis.Hence, is to repair punctured tyres. I have always considered repairing punctures as part of the wider service that we offer to our customers.

Flat Tyres

Flat Tyres requiring a repair

It is nice to see a smiling face. As a result, we tell our customers that their tyre will repair. Consequently, instead of the bill for a new tyre. They only have to pay a small amount for their tyre repairing. So, making them very happy customers. Also we can get drivers calling in with Flat Tyres that do need a new tyre. That’s tough but its all part of repairing tyres and the service that we offer.

There have been many attempts.By companies to provide different cans of chemicals to repair Flat Tyres .In my opinion the system has failed. Accordingly, with the advent of the cars without spares and runflat tyres. Then tyre companies are always on the lookout for new materials. Thus, that will seal a nail hole or screw hole. Of course, when the tyre is penetrated known as Run Flat Tyres Repair.

Continental have come with a special tyre that may protect the driver from a penetration in their Flat Tyres, but now it looks like they are experimenting with polymer materials which replicate our own skin by healing themselves, providing the damage caused is not too great.

Flat Tyres Past Thing

Flat Tyres

Sicherheitsreifen, safety tire, runflat system (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

As thus article states some of these polymers have been around since WW11 and were created when there was a shortage of rubber. Scientists in Spain are experimenting with new polymers that can regenerate similar to human skin, therefore healing Flat Tyres that has been penetrated by a foreign object. Please read more… http://www.cidetec.es/en/index.aspx

It could be the end of the tyre repairing as we know it, I am all for safety but I am not sure about these developments.
