Pirelli tyres are grabbing a chance to supply the growing popularity of winter and all-season tyres amongst European drivers for winter use.

Pirelli tyres go for new technology compounds

There is no doubt about it that there has been a massive shift in direction, as regards the public changing to winter tyres or all-season tyres, before the winter arrives here in the UK and the rest of northern Europe. Some countries, such as Germany, have to fit winter tyres by law, but the UK relies on common sense from many of its vehicle drivers.

In fact according from figures issued by the tyre industry the number of winter tyres fitted to our vehicles, will have doubled between a five year periods of 2013 to 2015.In my opinion Pirelli have not been as active as the could have been in the winter tyre market, but they now hope to make amends with the Pirelli Cinturato All-Season tyre. This tyre is also

available with the new tyre seal system, that ads another safety feature to the tyre, by making the tyre practically puncture proof.

This new tyre will have the three snow flake winter tyre marking and so it will be good in the snow as well as a normal wet winter that we would see in the southern European countries, making the tyre a true all-season tyre. Pirelli Tyres of course has a number of what you could call full winter tyres, as we know them.

Pirelli tyres Scorpion Winter traction

Other tyres from the Pirelli winter range include the “SCORPION™ WINTER” which have been especially  designed to fit modern SUVs and CUVs, for the use of winter motoring, with a special emphasis on the upper end class of vehicle, including the SUV’s and cross-over vehicles. The main reason for this tyre was to control better down-hill braking and cornering in snow and other winter road conditions, whilst keeping total control of your vehicle. These were especially designed with the larger size tyres fitted to the likes of the BMW and Mercedes people carriers, to help in bad winter weather conditions.

Pirelli tyre Winter Sottozero series 3

These asymmetric winter tyres has been developed with the high performance and sport car market in mind. The “WINTER SOTTOZERO™ SERIE 111” will guarantee a top performance weather you are driving on dry roads at speed such as on a motorway, or on a snow covered mountain pass, on your way to the ski slopes. Like winter tyres from most other tyre companies .This tyre has a special compound that gives the tyre great flexibility in a temperature of 7 degrees and below, giving the tyre a better grip in the cold and snow.

This will be the winter tyre for the, what I would call the average car, that has to perform in colder climates or say drivers living in hilly and mountainous regions. This tyre is made in

smaller sizes to fit the average cars and I would say that they are a step ahead of the new Pirelli All-Season tyres, for the guy in a more extreme environment, say the difference between Scotland and the south of England.

Mixing Tyre Technologies

Mixing Tyre Technologies

The question posed by this article in “The Business Times” is about the mix of tyre manufacturers technologies. Hence when it comes to mixing different tyre brands to the larger and now popular SUV vehicles. In my opinion it is yet another grey area in the crazy world of tyres. “Should we do this” and “can we do that” is a question that I hear every week.

So, the advent of the SUV has certainly opened up a new can of worms. Over the last decade tyre manufacturers have introduced a string of new tyre products. Consequently, pressure was brought on the tyre makers from governments wanting the car manufacturers to make greener and leaner cars. As a result, then tyres had to become lighter in weight and larger in circumference to give less “rolling resistance“.

Coincidentally, the SUV’s came out about the same time. The SUV’s had much larger tyres and it looks to me that new technology tyres were to be developed with these vehicles in mind.

Tyre makers were looking for all types of new materials to add to the rubber latex. Thus, trying to lighten the tyre weight. Continental tyres came up with the milk like substance extracted from “dandelions“. It was found that the milky substance found in the dandelion was of the same molecular make up as the latex . Now Continental are growing vast areas of these plants near their German tyre factories.

Mixing Tyre Technologies

Other finds include the Yokohama tyres use of orange peel oil. However I dont really want to get too technical. The issue is should we mix these different tech tyres on the same vehicle. Especially if the tyres were developed along side the car manufacturers. Of course the SUV’s are now big and powerful, made by all the worlds leading luxury car makers.

Have we now got to the stage when it is important that we stick to the same tyres as the original equipment ones. As a tyre dealer for over forty years, then I am beginning to think so. The attached article explains about the specific tyres that are made for certain SUV’s. Thus, tyres like the Bridgestone Alenza and Italian brand Pirelli’s Scorpion series.

This class of vehicle are also fitted with specific tyres such as the Yokohama Blu-earth RV-02. So, even Nokian are making a winter tyre for the SUV the Nokian WR SUV 3 tyres. Should the specific tyre types be compromised. Personally I do not think so?

When I am on the front line dealing with customers, then I always tell them to the best of my ability. In this case then I would recommend that the car should be on the same tyres that were fitted as original equipment. If they choose not to then it is their responsibility going forward. I suppose looking at it then this is a problem with buying your SUV tyres online.

Mixing Tyre Technologies

The registration number lookup only tells the buyer the size of the tyre and not what the SUV should have on. Subsequently, the best way is for the car owner to take the information from the tyre sidewall and order exactly the same tyres. Definitely a very grey area?

Pirelli Cinturato Tyres-about the new Rover 3500 fitting Pirelli Tyres

pirelli cinturato tyres, advertThe Pirelli Cinturato tyres from The great Italian tyre company

Hi i love to show off my old tyre adverts this Pirelli Cinturato advert is no exception.

The Pirelli Cinturato Tyres have  been in use since i was a tyre fitter in the early 1970 s. The tyre was a popular choice on the MGB sport cars and Alfa Romeos, the most popular size was 165×14 but the tyres were used on many Italian imported cars in those days such as Fiats which were fitted with the Cinturato tyres. It all kicked off, when Rover brought out a car with a 3.5 litre engine under the bonnet. To balance the car out with a new type of suspension, the knew that they would have to use radial tyres.

The Rover 3500 was to come out with Pirelli Cinturato Tyres fitted as one of the original equipment tyres. The Pirelli Cinturato Tyres came out with a twin steel belt and a further belt that was made out of Nylon. Nylon was a fairly new material back then and was renowned for its strength and elasticity. The Pirelli Cinturato Tyres, was known to us as the CN 36 and was remembered for its strange looking tread pattern. The pattern was almost like a winter tyre pattern.

Because it had a steel belt it was always going to give the driver a good mileage on his car. In my opinion the block like tread pattern would have been very noisy on certain roads, as i say it looks more like a winter tyre. In fact i can remember some of our customers complaining about the  Pirelli Cinturato Tyres, being on the noisy side.

The Rover 3500, also cam out on Dunlop tyres, and these were said to have a quieter ride. The Dunlops had a rib pattern around the tyre circumference and so drove much quieter.

Pirelli Snowcontrol 3

Pirelli tyres have brought out this new winter tyre the Pirelli Snowcontrol 3 to try boost its standing in the winter tyre market. The giant tyre company has good standing in the home market in Italy, but slips behind in the UK and the rest of Europe.

Pirelli tyres  have brought out a next generation of winter tyres. Thus, the Pirelli Snowcontrol 3. So to follow in the footsteps of the of the snow control 2.

This new tyre. Therefore, has the advantage of having a greener credential than its predecessor. Most of the leading tyre makers. Consequently, are now going down this line. Most tyres are made of large amounts of oil based materials. For this reason, the shift is now to use materials that are not petroleum based. As expected, use other types of oils. That are much more environmentally friendly.

This Pirelli Snowcontrol 3  winter tyres. Naturally, from Pirelli are classed as Eco-compatible. Therefore, will have a minimal impact on the environment. Thus, without effecting the  performance.

These Pirelli Snowcontrol 3 tyres. Have a special directional tread pattern. Hence, with wide central grooves that to optimise pitch sequence. Of course, that enables them  to be much quieter and reduce much of the road noise that were once synonymous with winter tyres that were once a stumbling block for many motorists. In fact this tyre already complies with the new 2012 EU directive on the lowering of road noise it I also perfect for use in mild and extreme weather conditions, anything that the European winter can throw at us.

Pirelli Truck Tyres-Reduce Tyre Breakdowns for Yorkshire Truck Company

Post Updated 3rd Jan 2014

Pirelli Truck Tyres for Bedfords of Batley

The Bedfords trucking empire was started in 1927 by Mr Nelson Bedford who started his business off the back of the heavy woolen districts booming textile and clothing industry. In the early days Nelson wanted to be a single operator but his son Ronald joined forces with his father in 1952 and by the end of the 50s the business had grown four fold. Nelson sadly passed away during retirement in 1957.

Ronald was now the top man and by 1968 the fleet grew to over 20 lorries. Ronald did not want his sons to join the business, but David joined the trucking company in 1972 and the company were now trucking for the printing industry and by now the fleet had reached 40 vehicles.

In 1991 Davids brother Robert also joined the company and Bedfords continued to expand until the sad deaths of the brothers in 2007 and 2008.

The company is now run by a trust together with directors and managers and has now reached significant growth due to excellent customer service and diversification.

One of the main concern regarding the trucking business was to try a reduce the number of tyre related breakdowns, the fleet these days is over 85 trucks and more than 135 trailers.

In 2011 the company decided to start using One of the main concern regarding the trucking business was to try a reduce the number of tyre related breakdowns, on their fleet. They use a mixture of Pirelli Truck Tyres new and remould Pirelli Truck Tyres depending on the application.

The contract with Pirelli Truck Tyres ensured that the tyres were correctly fitted to the right applications and correctly twinned with tyre pressure monitoring systems in place, so that problems such as low pressure can easily be spotted and rectified. The results were excellent and after a nine month period Pirelli Truck Tyres had reduced the companies tyre breakdown rate thus reducing the tyre related costs. Hi I would like to introduce myself. I have worked in the Garage and tyre and Battery business now for 40 years. I worked for a couple of national tyre companies before starting my first business. Pirelli Tyres Cables- The giant Italian tyre company also make Electric Cables

One of the founders and the best Pirelli Tyres Cables

Pirelli Tyres are one of the founders of the manufacture of both tyres and for underground electrical cables the famous Pirelli Tyres Cables company, were founded in Millano in Italy in 1872

Pirelli Tyres Cables

by Giovanni  Battista  Pirelli.

Pirelli as a company have been manufacturing  for over well over 100 years. Pellon Tyres in Halifax has not been around for that long, but in all there experience in the tyre trade Pirelli tyres have always given car owners a good service and a good mileage, and are a top brand name that commands much respect and much loyalty amongst the Pirelli Tyres Cables . This is indeed valuable praise from such an established tyre dealers who to this day stills sells Pirelli  at their Halifax based tyre depot.

Pirelli radial tyres were generated from the need of Lancia rally, who wanted to make a stronger lower riding radial tyre for their Lancia Stratos rally car, this need lead the   designers to develop a much stronger tyre construction, both with a wider tread area and with a much lower side walls. This design became very successful and became a boost to the lancia racing team, indeed Porsche began to copy Lancia and also started to use this Pirelli tyres for its racing division.

This new tyre design lead to the creation and introduction of the Pirelli Cinturato.

This tyre was developed in the 1950s and was originally made from a textile belted construction. This tyre gave great comfort and road holding qualities but as for all textile construction tyres was a little low on mileage and could not compete with some of its main rival, Michelin tyres, who were streets ahead with their steel belted X range of tyres.

The giant Italian tyre company were given a “Good” in recent tyre tests. Thus, the tests were carried out by the German motoring magazine “AUTO-BILD.”. Hence, the   tests were carried out by using 19565T15 tyre size. Thus, on a VW Golf saloon. Consequently, the Pirelli Snowcontrol 2 were superb in slush and snow conditions.

A similar test was carried out on the Pirelli winter products. Hence this time by another European motoring magazine “AUTO-ZEITUNG”.  This is excellent for a tyre test.

The Pirelli Snowcontrol 2 is a directional tyre, having sipes (the small slits in the tread that help to dissipate the water or snow and slush) running across the treat and also longitudinally around the tread. This enables the Pirelli Snowcontrol 2 to clear away the water slush or snow, very quickly thus enabling the tyre to grip and offer stable driving conditions in inclement weather.

Winter Performance With, Pirelli Snowcontrol Winter Tyres

For that reason, the tyres are quieter because of the thin sipe technology used in this tyre. Accordingly, Pirelli Snowcontrol 2 tyres are available from www.pellonautocentre.com online at discount prices.

Pirelli Cinturato Radial Tyres-“Born”from Lancia Cars

Pirelli radial tyres were born from the need of Lancia Rally division. Hence, who wanted a stronger lower riding radial tyre for their “Lancia Stratos” rally car. Accordingly, this leads the designers to create a much more durable tyre construction. As a result, both wider and with a much lower side wall. Hence, this Pirelli Cinturato design became very successful. Of course, giving a significant boost toLancia racing”. Indeed Porsche also started to use the Pirelli Cinturato tyre in its racing division.

The new Pirelli design leads to the creation of the Pirelli Cinturato. This tyre was created in the 1950s.Therefore, and was originally made from a textile belted construction. This tyre gave great comfort and road holding qualities but as for all textile construction tyres was a little low on mileage and could not compete with some of its rivals namely Michelin who were streets ahead with their steel belted X range of tyres.

Eric Roberts remembers fitting these Pirelli Cinturato tyres in the 1960 s. Eric, was a tyre fitter in Dewsbury. These tyres were mounted on Lancias and for some strange reason were fitted to some MGBs.

The earlier Pirelli Cinturato were used as original equipment on most Italian-made production cars such as the Alfas;

Pirelli Cinturato tyres mounted on MGB GTs

Eric remembers the first time he saw these tyres. They were very unusual at the time.Hence, but things were changing fast in the world of tyres. and we were not that surprised at what came along next”. Thus, the most common size been the 165×14. Pirelli now competes on the World stage with the steel belted radial fitted to modern cars.

“MICHELIN TYRES” the great Success Story.(Then came Pirelli Tyres)

MICHELIN TYRES

The Michelin X tyre was developed from an idea and then an invention by American named Arthur W Savage. Tyre companies in America were not interested in the idea of radial tyres. Other tyre companies were still developing the bias belted tyre for use on their large “gas guzzling”cars. But when Savage visited Europe he received a warm welcome and his invention was well received.

Pirelli

Early MGBs were fitted with 165×14 Pirelli Cinturato textile radials

and indeed taken up by

Michelin tyres.

The rest of story is in my previous blogs. The next tyre company to try to emulate the great French tyre company was Pirelli tyres of Italy.

Part 3; Catch Up Time first “Pirelli Tyres”

Pirelli tyres were one of the first European tyre companies. Thus, to try catch up with them and in 1951 introduced the now famous Pirelli Cinturato tyre. Michelin Tyres UK  had tried to protect the copy write of the radial tyre.

The Pirelli Cinturato was first made of “Rayon cords”. Thereby, better known as a textile radial. The original tyre came out as the Cinturato CF57 and quickly became a favourite of many top car makers especially in Italy. Companies the like of Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati were all fitted with Pirelli tyres.

Pirelli tyres and sports cars became a great combination. Pirelli still use the cinturato symbol on its tyres. Such as the Pirelli Cinturato P7 Plus and were always looking over their shoulders at Michelin tyres .

MICHELIN TYREs

The two tyre companies became great rivals. Pirelli tried to increase their size by merging with other tyre companies. They tried merging with Dunlop and Continental but increased its capacity by buying Armstrong tyres of America .Pirelli tyres were also fitting original equipment tyres to marques such as Aston Martin and Jaguar giving their product a very high profile image. The first time that i came across the famous Cinturato tyres  were fitted to the MGB cars in the mid sixties.

The main problems were on the early Jaguars, i remember having to take these cars to the Dunlop depot in Leeds where a Dunlop technician would have to skim some rubber off the tread area to make the tyre round enough to balance them on a regular wheel balancer.

Pellon Tyre and Autocentre offer car and van servicing and repairs to all makes of vehicles.

Pirelli tyres are now available from www.pellonautocentre.com/tyres.htm online with free fitting in the Calderdale area of West Yorkshire.

Pirelli Van Tyres-New Tyre Range for Camper Van Tyres from Pirelli Tyres

Famous Italian tyre-makers Pirelli Van Tyres have brought out a new range of tyres

Meeting the needs of the modern van and the new van driver. Vans can now do much faster speeds with higher payloads and so need the van tyres to cope with these conditions. Some vans can now carry payloads of up to 3.5 tonnes and require tyres with the capacity to carry these higher loads at faster speeds.

Pirelli Van Tyres “Chrono” van tyre

The new Chrono tyre has been developed by Pirelli Van Tyres .To cope with the demands of the smaller type delivery vans such as the Ford Transit Connect. These smaller types of vans have to deal with increased robustness. While driving at higher speeds. These vans have higher comfort levels for the drivers. In fact, modern vans are not far behind cars in the comfort stakes. Therefore the tyres have to be more flexible. They contain the correct compound for when the vans are loaded and unloaded. At the same time, the tyre must be able to carry loads at speed while also keeping a good mileage record; these vans are working vans, and tyre economy comes into the equation.

pirelli van tyres

The new  Chrono Pirelli Van Tyres lives up to all these standards and is available in wheel sizes from 14inch to 17inch.

Pirelli Van Tyres “Chrono” Camper Van Tyre.
This next tyre in the Italian tyre maker’s range is created for the camper van type vehicle. Camper van tyres are also a must for the Motor Home sector. These tyres have a reinforced structure specially designed for these cars. This structure increases the tyre life from the risk of so-called “flat spots”, which happen when the camper is parked, and then proceeds on its journey at speed.
This tyre also gives improved stability during cornering with higher levels of grip. All in all an excellent product to buy for your tourer and motorhome. The Pirelli Van Tyres come in sizes for 15 inches and 16-inch wheels.

Pirelli “Chrono”4 seasons and “Chrono” Winter tyres

They have also developed the “4 seasons” tyre for use in a regular winter a little of all kinds of weather as in a typical winter. The winter tyre is made to cope with more severe conditions. Load and speed capabilities are of the same standards as the other “Pirelli Van Tyres Chrono” products in the range. Both are excellent products coping with all a winter can throw at them.
