Apollo Winter Tyres to the Rescue in Yorkshire Crematorium for Halifax Funeral Company

Apollo Winter Tyres to the RescueApollo Winter Tyres

In early November we received a phone call from a local undertaker, Melia Funeral Services, here in Halifax, West Yorkshire in England UK.

Hearses with their new winter tyres  fitted

No problem there, because throughout the year the company normally just have a puncture now and then. This is due to the fact that their hearses do not do much mileage and usually drive at a snail’s pace, when driving to the cemetery or crematorium.

However this call was different, Melias wanted to buy two sets of Apollo Winter Tyres for their hearses. The reason for this was that the hearses were getting stuck on the incline to the chapel in Elland crematorium, and were getting a little embarrassed when getting stuck. We thought it was a bit funny at first but they had obviously given the problem some thought and were not prepared to get stuck this coming winter. I actually visited this crematorium  to take a look for myself, but the incline is not that steep. I think it is because the hearse drives really slowly. In a normal car you could probably take a run at this and clear it easily, even without special Apollo Winter Tyres fitted. The strange thing is that last winter was the mildest for twenty years and the snowfall was minimalistic. The funeral company have

kept the tyres on all year round and now that we are approaching the new cold spell, they will be keeping their fingers crossed that they did not waste their money and we have a couple of spells of snow to try out their new Apollo Winter Tyres

Here in Halifax we are in a very hilly area and sell many sets of these wheels but this is the most unusual reason that I have heard of, the hearses came in and we fitted 2 sets of 22560R16 Apollo Winter Tyres and the hearses won’t get stuck again.(we hope?) .

This winter is becoming one of the best years for our customers buying their first set of winter tyres.(Yokohama Winter Tyres)

It is probably due to the fact that we have had a run of cold snowy winters over the past three or four years and the need for winter tyres are slowly sinking in. We also have a large Polish community in the Halifax area, where my tyre-centre is situated and they are familiar with the need for winter tyres, in fact I think it may now be compulsory in Poland to fit winter tyres from November to march, the same as some other European countries.

Which winter tyres ?

We have found over the years that as an independent tyre retailer, most customers think in two ways, either they know exactly what they want, or they will take our recommendations as to which brand and at what price to pay for their tyres. The majority of our customers come to us on word of mouth recommendations, or because they have received good service in the past, we know this because we do not advertise as such, only through social media sites and internet directories. In the past when our profit margins were higher we would regularly take out full page ads in the local papers, costing us an arm and a leg, we never really knew if the ads paid off or not.Yokohama Winter Tyres

We have and still do sell many different brands of tyres including winter tyres. In the past two years we have been able to buy our tyres from the major tyre companies because we are a member of a buying group known as Point-S tyres. We were very happy to open an account with Yokohama Winter Tyres from Japan, because we knew from experience that this company made excellent tyres, including winter tyres. This will be our third year selling Yokohama winter tyres and we are pleased with the very good response we had from the drivers who have experienced these tyres in winter conditions. The Halifax area is very hilly, we are in the foothills of the Pennine mountain range and therefore we have very tricky roads, especially in winter snowy conditions.

The latest car to arrive for a set of four Yokohama Winter Tyres was a Land Rover-Freelander 2-GS-TD4. This nice looking car had a set of four 235/65R17 108H Yokohama W Winter tyres. It’s great when you love the job that you are doing and can write about it in our company blog.

Are Snow Tyres More Important than AWD in the Snow?

Carscoops (blog)

There’s a common misconception that an all-wheel drive car is all one needs to be safe when driving in winter.

Eric Roberts says

SUV owners should be looking for winter tyres

It is a huge misconception that the owners of SUV vehicles are safe when driving in the winter time. These large vehicles are normally fitted with some kind of sport

snow tyres

summer tyres and because they have big wheels and wide tyres, the owners think that they can go any ware in different driving conditions.

I remember a few years ago when we had our worse snow for a few years. The phone was red hot with SUV drivers trying to get some winter tyres. As luck would have it we deal with a German tyre company and were able to pick up some stock, but there was certain sizes that were completely unavailable.

What the public don’t realise is that the tyre manufacturers make winter tyres in summer and most of them are sent to the countries that have to have snow tyres fitted by law. These include Germany, Switzerland, Austria and a few more that slip my mind. We and the rest of Europe have to take

Things are now getting better with the importing of many snow tyres coming from the Far East. Yokohama from Japan are also an excellent winter tyre and are available in many sizes including tyres for the SUV vehicles. We also recommend General winter tyres but they only make the tyres for the average saloon car.

So the moral of this article is to get yourself some snow tyres for your SUV before they start to run after the first snow.

Winter tyres grip-can help you get a grip in the cold and the Snow- Evening Telegraph

It pleases me very much to see how the British public have responded to the efforts of the owners of tyre outlets and the many motoring publications, that have been

advising the public about the advantages and safety features of fitting winter tyres to your car.

What started me off committing myself to this subject was the massive increase of traffic on our roads, combined with the worsening winters that we were getting. This in my eyes makes road safety, especially where brakes and other road safety factors are concerned. Cars are travelling and accelerating at much faster speeds and therefore requires better braking systems and tyre technology. The latter is probably my specialist subject and a subject that I am passionate about, therefor the advice that I give to drivers and my customers is in their best interest.

The subject of whether or not to fit winters in November time or not, to me is a “no brainer”. Here in West Yorkshire winter will shortly arriving , in fact this morning the local council gritting trucks are out gritting the icy roads. Winter tyres have a special compound that has silicone added to the rubber compound.

Winter tyres grip

Of course, this ensures that the winters remain flexible in freezing weather conditions, and are still able to maintain there grip on icy or snowy roads. On the other hand a summer ones that do not have additives will begin to harden when the temperature drops below 7 degrees centigrade, when Winter tyres grip . The effect is similar to your wiper blades, we all know that in cold weather that your wiper blades become very hard and will not clean the windscreen, all other rubber items have the same affect, and do not work correctly in cold weather.

If the tyre does not flex because of the cold, then the tread will not be able to do the job of gripping, especially in cold weather or on a very dirty rainy day when you may be traveling at 70 mph on a motorway. Winters will flex and give you the full tread onto the road, together with a much better designed tread pattern made especially for wet and snowy winter conditions, there is no doubt that Winter tyres grip . You owe it to yourself and your family to be as safe as possible on our very busy roads in winter time, none of us know what the weather will throw at us on any given day,(not even the weather man)

Apollo Winters -When To Fit Your Winter Tyres?

Apollo Winters

Apollo Winters

Winter tyres are very important for drivers who generally drive in icy, slushy and snowy conditions and also for those who drive in areas are prone to very low temperatures and large snow falls yea…

eric roberts‘s insight:

Apollo Winter Tyres

This is the time of year in early November that we should be thinking about fitting Apollo Winters. Winter tyres come in all sizes and makes.

Winter tyres are made from special compounds. Working best at temperatures of 7 degrees or less. Of course, most of the UK experiences temperatures below this between December and February. Hence, we can usually expect frost on almost half the days of winter. With this type of tyre, your stopping distance can be shortened by up to 11 meters.Especially, on icy roads, and your vehicle’s handling will be greatly improved. Thus, reducing the risk of skidding, aquaplaning or sliding.

In winter, the condition and performance of your tyres is extremely important. Winter tyres have a specially designed tread and composition. So,in order to provide the most effective grip.Including, handling and safety for drivers. It’s an excellent idea, therefore, to change to specialist tyres to improve your winter driving. Also, increase your fuel efficiency and ensure the safety of you and your passengers during the winter months. popular ones that we sell here at Pellon tyres in the foothill of the Pennine mountain range, here in West Yorkshire UK, are the mid-range winter tyres. These come in some well-known tyre manufacturer names such as Yokohama tyres and Apollo Winters. These brands are well respected and tried brands of tyres and have been well proven by hundreds of my own customers over the years in bad wintry conditions.

The cheap tyres brands also do well, including Infinity winter tyres and Jinyu winter tyres, all of which are kept in stock, for the winter period. But now in early November is the time to start fitting your winter tyres, the weather can change overnight. We have just experienced our first heavy frost so the snow will not be far behind.

There has never been any doubt about Quality Winter Tyres and the fantastic job that they do when winter arrives, no matter what country you live

in. It is always an advantage when great car magazines the likes of Autocar reinforce what us tyre pundits have been saying for years.

The reason that we tend to harp on about Quality Winter Tyres is the safety aspect of the product. These days the cars are getting much faster and powerful and we also have had the Quality Winter Tyresrecent influx of SUV’s and crossover cars. These vehicles are next to useless when it comes to coping with the winter conditions of snow and ice. They are large and powerful and are absolutely useless in the snow without Quality Winter Tyres fitted.

Quality Winter Tyres are now an essential safety commodity, to be used on the modern day vehicles, they will even give you a safety advantage when driving on the motorway on a stinking wet day, and so must be considered before the winter sets in. We at Pellon Tyres in Halifax recommend a couple of makes that have been proven to us over the years, they are Yokohama  and Jinyu , although Jinyu are an economy brand we have tested these on our own vehicles over the past few years.

Winter is now on its way here in the Northern hemisphere, and if you want to get to work on time and impress your boss, it is time to fit your winter tyres.

Your winter tyres do not only give your car stability in snow, but they also protect you by gripping the road better in very wet conditions and prevent your car from aquaplaning. This is when a film of water forms between the road surface and your tyres, causing your car to lose grip with the road surface.

We always fit Best Winter Tyres to our vehicles and I can guarantee that they make you feel much safer in snow and bad inclement weather, and that’s because they are much safer than summer ones.

Snowing scenes like this call for “Winters to be fitted ” Winter Tyres Work

Winter tyres have in the past three years helped millions of motorists to

make safer journeys and arrive home safely, remember Winter Tyres Work . We are now approaching the time, usually November time when you should fit your winter tyres, or if you do not have any then you should consider buying yourself a set.

Even if you can’t afford a set of four then it is it is still a better and safer proposition to fit a pair on your drive wheels. Out of all the thousands of customers that have had winter tyres fitted, I have never had a single complaint about the  performance, in fact most drivers will give them a raving revue.

When the weather gets this bad then Winter Tyres Work

This is one of the reasons why the fleet companies are fitting winters to their fleets?Winter Tyres Work . They know that it makes sense to fit them for the safety aspect and also they know that it will benefit the drivers, when they are out in snow and also wet weather, and when the fleets buy them you know they must be good as they will not waste a penny unless it is necessary.

Winter Tyres Work its a fact

We at Pellon Tyres here in Halifax West Yorkshire recommend that you should go for an economy winter tyre such as Jinhu winters if you are on a low budget, or an excellent mid-range tyre is the Nokian winters  and for the SUV or larger sedan type of cars you could look no further that choosing a leading make such as Michelin or Bridgestone winters , they are all excellent products. As the article says there was 6000 road accidents here in the UK,due to snow and ice, according to the Department of Transport (DFT)

Winter Tyres Safety-One Of The Best Safety Items You Could Add To Your Car.

Winter Tyres Safety is now taken seriously

This year (here in the UK) we have had what we could call a good Summer, with nice long sunny day’s with a few rainy days scattered here and there. Now we are well into September and the weather is starting to turn colder. We at Pellon Tyres recon that it is the end of October before we start to get the Easterly winds that bring colder weather, (and dare I say it) snow.

The past three or four years have been particularly cold and snowy and not been funny but this is the weather that we in the tyre trade just love, (for obvious reasons?). This year will be no exception, we will be praying for more of the same this winter; it could even be a little harsher in my opinion, “one man’s loss is another man’s gain” as the saying goes.

Winter Tyres Safety

Scenes like this in Sowerby, West Yorkshire caught us all out in March 2013

One of the good things that came out of the bad winters is our concern for Winter Tyres Safety and so we introduced a “TYRE HOTEL” system for our customers to store their winter and summer tyres. We fit the winter tyres in October and November and change them back to their summer tyres in March, although last year it snowed in March, and so we changed most of them in April and May.

Tyre hotel has become very popular for Winter Tyres Safety

We are pleased to say that this will be our third year, operating this system and it has become a very popular Winter Tyres Safety service for our customers. We did not advertise the service and all the new business that we have gained has come from “word of mouth”. This situation pleases me very much, because it is something that we all strive for and is a good way of keeping contact with your customers. The only problem we are starting to have is the lack of storage, we have customers winter tyres stored all over the place?

For tyre dealers who do not have “tyre hotel” facilities, and live in a hilly area where they are likely to have snow fall, then I would recommend that you give it a try. Another advantage that we have is that our customers have no qualms about buying a replacement tyre when they need one. When we point out that the tread is below the legal limit, they simply ask us to replace the tyre, no ringing round or going onto the internet, as long as we charge them at a competitive price and a fair price they are happy to trust us, it is a great way of keeping onto your customers.

We charge £10 for each time that we fit and/or refit a tyre, that’s £40 for the four. We also charge £10 for each tyre stored over the winter/summer period. This charge also includes valve and balancing, but s I say it has proved to be a good way of retaining some of our customers in this very competitive business.

We are now advising our customers that require new ones at the moment, to think about fitting Apollo Winter Tyres, instead of summer tyres and we are

Winter Tyres Safety

Apollo Winter Tyres ready to be fitted

getting a good response from motorists who are now becoming much wiser about the products  and tyre safety and the people that fit winters  have thanked us on many an occasion for our advice and safety of Winter Tyres Safety in bad weather.

When you been in the tyre trade as long as I have. Then we often get offered opportunities to help test new tyres. Hence, from the different tyre manufacturers. You may wonder what this has to do with SUV winter tyres. But a couple of years ago I was offered a chance to test drive some SUV vehicle. Thus, fitted with Vredestein SUV Winter Tyres. So to prove how different this type of car performed on winter tyres.

The cars included many different models. Including the new Range Rover the new Porsche Cayenne and the BMW MX and Mercedes ML models. We were all flown to Austria and headed for the mountains.

SUV Tyres-Fear in my eyes

All the cars were fitted with the excellent Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme tyres. Which were designed by the great car designer Giugiari. of course, the cars were driven by professional test drivers (and boy did I know it). I was in the passenger seat and another couple of guys were in the back.

We climbed upwards until we reached the snow line. The drivers then let loose, they were that confident with the snow tyres fitted that they drove these SUVs like mad men. We were driven on ice and snow through forested areas and up and down steep ravines at high speed . I had never been as frightened in my life, my eyes were popping out with fear. I was ever so glad when the tyre tests were finished, but it proved to how good these cars were with SUV Winter Tyres fitted.

Most of these cars come fitted with summer tyres when new so it is well worth investing in a set of SUV Winter Tyres to give you full driver confidence when the Apollo suv Winter Tyreswinter weather comes along, as many drivers of these vehicles found to their cost when they got stuck in snow and ice in the last few winters.

One of the top tyre manufacturers to make excellent SUV Winter Tyres for the SUVs are Apollo. They are world renowned at making great tyres for winter. The tyres are now made at the famous Vredestein winter tyre factory in Holland.
