Peugeot 206 Bushes- “Looked like the Back Wheels were falling Off”

Peugeot Rear wheels rattling about due to Peugeot 206 Bushes

One of the many phone calls that we receive was from a lady in distress in a local town called Batley here in West Yorkshire UK.

She said that another motorist had pulled her up, because her rear wheels looked to be coming off. She called us for assistance and we recovered the car to our Halifax Garage.

The red coloured Peugeot 206 duly turned up and we hoisted the car onto one of our two poster ramps. We soon discovered that the 2007 Peugeot 206 Problems had a common problem for this car, the Peugeot 206 Bushes had collapsed.

Peugeot 206 Bushes

Peugeot 206 Bushes rear axle removed

What we do is to keep a whole axle unit in stock from another Peugeot 206 and we recondition the axle fitting new Peugeot 206 Bushes and any other part that needs replacing, we find that this is the easiest way to complete this job, to change the whole unit. We then rebuild the broken axle in a quite moment ready for the next one that comes in.

If you live in the UK you can sometimes see the rear wheels on the Peugeot 206s

Splaying out from top to bottom. This is the first sign of the bushes going, or it is often picked up on the cars annual MOT test, by failing the rear axle bushes.

For more information about the Peugeot 206http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peugeot_206

To conclude we fitted the reconditioned rear axle including the new Peugeot 206 Bushes and the car went away as good as new.

Wheel balancing Facts-Car Drivers are still not sure What WHEEL BALANCING IS ?

Wheel balancing Facts

Wheel balancing Facts; in the beginning?

Wheel balancing Facts When I first started working in the tyre trade. Then, wheel balancing was not as important . Especially, on the old x ply tyres on slowly driven cars. Hence, as it is on today’s fast cars driving on the fast highways. For this reason, we used to spend hours trying to balance Jaguar wheels. Thus, on old “spirit level” wheel balancers. In times gone by the Jaguar was about the fastest British car out . Consequently, Jaguars came out on Dunlop tyres . This was a textile radial the size was Er70Vr x15.

The problem was that Dunlop could not get the tyre to balance correctly. Therefore, all the tyres had to go back to Dunlop to be skimmed on a special machine. Thus, to make the tyres circumference what you may call “round”. As I have said, a special machine had to be made to perform this. For this reason, all Jaguar wheels were done in this way.
Nowadays we used very sophisticated machinery. Exclusively, to perform the wheel balancing. Moreover, these machines are computerised and very accurate. Pinpointing the exact place where the weight should be attached.

It is now very rare that a wheel would need re-balancing. Even more, once the new tyre was fitted and the wheel balancing was done. For this reason, we have all experienced the  vibration of their wheels. Especially, wheels that say, looses a weight. Balancing,  also causes problems with your suspension and steering parts. Apart from annoying the driver. Therefore, it is important that you get the wheels balanced again. Preferably, as soon as possible.

Wheel balancing “wobble” is very distinctive

The vibration or wobble caused by an out of balance wheel is easy to identify. Your car will drive normally until a certain speed is reached , balancing Facts say 50 mph and start to vibrate through your hands on the steering wheel, the car will normally drive through this to say 60 mph and then feel perfectly normal, this is your wheels that are out of balance.

Sometimes the facts state that vibration comes through your seat, this is usually your rear wheels that are out of balance, most other things that can vibrate on your car such as faulty brakes, will be a more violent vibration and will start at low speeds and be very noisy , if this happens stop your car a seek some advice from a skilled engineer or your nearest Auto-centre.
To summarise  balancing Facts can cause your tyres to wear prematurely and also feels uncomfortable when driving any good Tyre centre will correct the problem in half an hour and have you on your way in no time.

WHEEL BALANCING HALIFAX UK-Recommended preventative tyre maintenance and a smooth ride?

 Post Updated 2nd Jan 2014/8th may 2004

WHEEL BALANCING HALIFAX; is just another maintenance measure to think about.

wheel balancing

Alex in his summer shorts,WHEEL BALANCING HALIFAX

Pellon Auto-centre in West Yorkshire know only too well the importance of wheel balancing on your car when new tyres are fitted to your car. Here in the UK this service is now done as part of the new tyre price, as is the cost of your old tyre removing. It is very important though that if you can feel a slight vibration coming from your wheels when driving on the motorway that you should have your wheels re-balanced.This could cause further Wheel Balancing Problems and more than anything makes your driving feel very uncomfortable, At higher speeds. A wheel that is out of  Balance will have steering problems.Vibrations will produce shaking, that will be felt in the steering wheel and possibly throughout the rest of the car”. WHEEL BALANCING HALIFAX, will put these problems right and produce a smooth ride at all speeds.

WHEEL BALANCING HALIFAX

“A wheel alignment is also a good preventative maintenance service even though it is not directly related to the tyres. A wheel alignment benefits the complex suspension and steering components to make sure that they remain set up correctly, allowing the tires to run straight and perfectly level on the ground. This service should be preformed when new tyres are installed on the vehicle, including when summer tires are replaced by snow or winter tyres”…by Waterloo Region shop talk.

Balancing Car Tyres- We have all felt our steering wheel shaking?

Post Updated 26th Dec 2013

Balancing Car Tyres;Balancing tyres in the old days

Many of the older car drivers (including myself) will remember the way that Balancing Car Tyres equipment we used to balance wheels in the old days. The machine was just piece of metal that literally sat on a spindle with a

Balancing Car Tyres

Balancing Car Tyres;Balancing a wheel on a rare HOT day here in Halifax West Yorkshire

bubble  in the centre where the wheel was put and wherever the tyres tilted a lead balance weight was placed at the opposite side to counter balance the wheel until the wheel laid straight across in a flat position. Those days though cars would only do 80 mph maximum and there were very few motorways to test your speed, so perhaps balancing was not so important in those days.

Nowadays if you own a car then you should be concerned about the safety to yourself, your passengers, and the other people on the road. Tyres are a big investment requiring proper care. Tyre pressure, changing the tyres round on the car and tyre balancing are three important elements, not forgetting the Balance Problems

Looking after your tyre pressures, is very important for the safety of everyone in your car and other road users that may be on the road. The correct tyre pressures are also very important, Under-inflated tyres are more dangerous than over-inflated tyres, but both can be dangerous, so keep the tyres at the correct pressures.. If they are under-inflated they will over heat, this could lead to premature failure and a blow-out at high speed. Whereas over-inflated tyres cause rapid tread wear which leads to poor vehicle handling on the road.

Basically, Balancing Car Tyres evenly distributes the mass from the centre out wards on the wheel. If the weight is not evenly distributed, it will cause vibrations while driving at certain speeds, between 50 and 70 mph is the normal speeds that you will feel out of balanced wheels vibration through the steering wheel also pulling the car to the left or right. This can harm your steering parts by causing premature wear on the parts, this is due to the vibration. The slightest weight imbalance can trigger vibration which needs to be adjusted by a tyre centre professional who use a specialized balancing machine.(we have two).

Our tyre technicians check for heavy spots on the wheel-tyre combination by mounting it on an electric balancing machine which spins the tyre and locates any heavy spots on the wheel. If a side is heavier than the another then the machine automatically picks this up and this means the tyre is out-of-balance. Our machines then tell us exactly where the wheel and tyres are out of balance and by placing a measured lead weight on the opposite side of the heavy spot the tyre is then correctly balanced. Basically a tyre and wheel is out of balance when one section of the tyre is heavier than another.

Balancing Car Tyres

Aaron balancing a wheel electronically

These days we balance every single wheel that we fit tyres to.

This is always included in the cost of a new tyre, even if they are tyre  cheap tyres. After the car has been driven on the road there are many reasons for wheels to go out-of-balance for instance each time you drive your car and the wheel rotates, it is possible to loose an original weight, or hard braking and acceleration causing the tyre to rotate hence losing their original balance weights. For accurate Balancing Car Tyres equipment, then an up-to-date spin balancer is perfect for both static and dynamic balance, we have two wheel balancers on the go all the time, they are wonderful machines and perfect for the fast cars of to days motoring and fast cars.

These cars have now got much larger, wider, and heavier tyres and rims and need dynamic balancing which is possible through a modern electric spin balancer. Most balancing machines provides accuracy to tenths of a gram and we are able to balance any car on the road today.

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK- An explanation of wheel balancing and how it affects your cars handling

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK

One of the most annoying problems for the motorist. Is when you develop a shake on your steering wheel when driving along the motorway. The experience is truly an uncomfortable feeling. Hence, due to the vibration of the steering wheel; Then you have a front wheel balancing problem. Thus, the vibration comes through the whole car when the out of balance comes from rear wheels.

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK

The out of balance situation gives you a shaky steering wheel affect, and often comes on very gradually at a certain speed say 50mph. You can often drive through this, but your car always seems to be out of balance at the wrong speed say 70mph and the only way to drive through this is to break the speed limit ?. This is most annoying to the driver of the car, but can be remedied by having your wheel balancing checked out at the nearest Auto-centre, or put up the problem when you get home, especially if you’re on the motorway.

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK

The most common problem to cause out of balance wheels. Is after you have had new tyres fitted. Once you have had, new tyres fitted. It is possible to lose a balance weight off your wheels.

Balance weights these days are made of alloys and not lead. Because of health and safety factors. Thus, due to lead poisoning. As a result, although for the last 35 years that I have been in the tyre trade. I have never known of any tyre fitter becoming ill or dying. Because of using wheel balancing weights to balance wheels. Accordingly, this is another silly law from the European Union. However, these balance weights are usually stuck on to the wheels by adhesive pads, and therefore, it is possible that a stuck on weight may come off when new tyres are fitted.

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK- should be done on a “Special Machine”

In my experience, this is the most common reason for your wheels to be out of balance and if you experience the problem then just go back to where the tyres were fitted and they will be re-balanced for you free of charge.

Wheel Balancing Halifax UK is done on a  special machine that is specifically designed for that job. Make sure that you buy your tyres from a reputable source, such as a modern tyre centre and ask if they are using the correct equipment. Modern cars with large low profile tyres require wheel balancing from the latest machines, indeed out of balanced tyres can cause damage to your car and if this problem occurs as stated earlier then you should re-balance your wheels immediately.

Wheel Balancing is Important for that perfect ride?

wheel balancing

Wheel balancing is important because it keeps your tyres, bearings and suspension system in order.

Source: affordableautohopkins.com

This is a short but to the point article about the importance of having your wheels balanced.

it is something that we in the tyre trade keep harping on about, but never the less is important, most of us have witnessed their wheels out of balance, and had Wheel Balancing Problems when the steering wheel starts to shake driving down the motorway (freeway).

https://www.pellonautocentre.com/centrelesswheels.htm

Wheel Balancing  will give you a better ride

Wheel balancing is one of the things in motoring terms that we take for granted? When I first started working in the tyre industry, we had a small piece of equipment that we would use to

wheel balancing

Old style static bubble wheel balancer

balance the wheels, whenever we fitted a new tyre.

This was known as a bubble-balancer, and that is exactly what it was. You would sit a wheel on top of the balancer and a bubble, similar to the ones in spirit level, would tell you when the wheel was out of balance by the tilt on the wheel and we had to counteract this at the opposite side by adding lead weights.

When the wheel was level and the bubble was dead central then the job was done and the wheel was fitted onto the car. The cars in those days were things like Ford Poplars and Morris 1000’s and so did not travel very far or go very fast.

Sit on Wheel Balancer was our first electric balancer.

There are different types of out of balance, “static balance”; vertical shaking that can come from a heavy spot on the tyre. This is what we would try to cure on our bubble balancer. This could also be cured on the next machine that came into use.

The machine was a sit on machine known as a On Car Wheel Balancing machine made by “Repco” and we would jack up the car put machine against the car wheel and we would then spin the electrically driven machine up to high speed. While the wheel was spinning a strobe light would make look like the wheel was in a still position we would then stop the machine with a type of brake and put a counter balance weight on the wheel depending where the tyres valve could be seen.

This method of wheel balancing was horrific.

The older guys in the industry will remember the fact that the wheels would shake violently and then the vibrations would shake the cars to bits, whilst the poor customer looked on with terror in his eyes. This reminds of the “roller brake tester” used on the modern MOT test, when the car gets shaken to bits, having a brake test.

This method of balancing was not for the faint hearted and I was glad to see the back of them.

The next set of wheel balancers were the fore runners to today’s sophisticated machines. We would put the wheel on a spindle and spin it by hand. These balancers would correct “static”

wheel balancing

Aaron with our up to date modern wheel balancer

and “dynamic” out of balancing. The modern wheel balancer is equipped with many sensors and can pick up balancing problems at high and low speeds. These are necessary for today’s high speed cars and of course give the car drivers a smooth ride, (that’s if your wheels are balanced of  course).

On a regular basis in my opinion is at least once a month. Most members of one of the independent tyre organisations ,such as Point-S will check your wheel alignment and wheel balancing for free and will only charge you if the car is out of alignment and requires adjusting.

Wheel Balancing is part of having a new tyre fitted

Today we balance your wheels as a matter of fact when you buy new tyres or have a puncture repaired. If you need a wheel balance just as a matter of fact and your steering wheel starts to shake at say 50 mph, then this is because you may have lost a balance weight or your tyre has become out of shape, due to perhaps a “slipped belt”, which can be caused by nail or screw damaging the steel belt in your tyre, putting the tyre out of shape and causing the wheel to be out of balance.

Wheel Balancing and Wheel Vibrations

This is another good article that is trying to emphasize the importance of having your wheels balanced. These days you will have your wheels balanced every time you have a new tyre fitted, it has become standard practice throughout the tyre industry. At one time in the distant past we would charge extra for new tubeless valves fitting and for balancing, but as I say this is now included in the total price, when you buy a new tyre.

The only problem is ,that your balance weights could come off and cause your wheels to have Wheel Vibrations, this will make your steering wheel shake  or you may feel a vibration coming through the car seat. This is caused by the rear wheels being out of balance, the front wheels cause your steering wheel to vibrate.

Wheel Vibrations

This symptom of Wheel Vibrations  is easy to remedy by calling into your nearest Tyre centre and having the wheels re-balanced, a quick and easy job to do. You will then enjoy a vibration free driving experience.

Wheel Vibrations underrated by drivers

Wheel balancing. Is perhaps one of the most underrated parts of your cars performance, and stability. Especially when the car is driven at higher speeds. Say on a motorway. We all know the feeling when the steering wheel starts to shake. As a result, and Wheel Vibrations start at a certain speed. Usually at speeds of 50 mph and above.

Before the out of balance on the wheel in question starts to kick in the shaking can be felt through your steering wheel or if the rear wheels are also out of balance, then the rear of the car will start to shake, and if you have passengers in the rear seats, then they will feel the shaking through the rear seats and into their bodies. Wheel balancing should be carried out whenever the Wheel Vibrations takes place, it is a good idea to call into your local Autocentre, and have the wheel balancing re-done.

One of the most common reasons for the wheel balancing to go out of synchronization is for a balance weight to come off the wheel Car Wheels. This can be caused by the wheel catching the walk way and knocking the weight off accidentally. Normally a balance weight will stay on the wheel until the next new car tyre is fitted  and the driver will never feel any vibrations through the steering wheel and if it does then the remedy is simple and relatively cheap to correct.

Wheel Balancing Problems

This video shows exactly how we balance a wheel. Some wheel balances  are much more sophisticated than others, but they are all built on the same principals. Wheel balancing is carried out on every single tyre that we fit at

Pellon tyres, including any strip and fits or puncture repairs. Although this video is from the USA, we do the same thing using the same machines.

Wheel Balancing Problems

Wheel Balancing Problems will shake your Blueberry Toyota Steering Wheel (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Wheel Balancing Problems occur when you are driving on the motorway (freeway). It can be detected by a strange vibrating feeling coming through the steering wheel of the car at a certain speed, say between 50 and 60 mph. You can often drive through the vibrating feeling, but generally it will not go away, and is most annoying.

Sometimes Wheel Balancing Problems can make you feel the vibrations coming from the cars seat, this is the rear wheels which are out of balance. Other Wheel Balancing Problems problems with your car can cause a shaking through the steering wheel, but in general it will be the wheel balancing that causes the Wheel Balancing Problems. The usual cause is a lost balance weight, after your wheel has caught the kerb (sidewalk edge) the weight may have come off, this is the most common cause.

Wheel Alignment Check does give a better ride

The article explains the virtues of having your wheels balanced and Wheel Alignment Check carried out on a regular basis.

On a regular basis in my opinion is at least once a month. Most members of one of the independent tyre  organisations , such as Point-S will check your Wheel Alignment Check in Halifax for free and will only charge you if the car is out of wheel alignment and requires adjusting.

Wheel balancing is a different thing. You can tell when your wheels need Dynamic Balancing because your car steering wheel will start to shake at a certain speed, usually at about fifty miles an hour, and you can some times drive through the shaking at a higher speed.

If your car shakes at a lower speed it is likely that the tyre has got a slipped belt. This is often caused by a penetration in your tyre such as a nail. The nail or screw will then allow water to enter the steel belt, which in turn oxidises (goes rusty) and causes the steel belt to become deformed. This in turn causes the tyre to run untrue and causes the tyre to shake at low speed and many of our customers think that wheel balancing will cure the problem, but unfortunately a new tyre is the only cure.
