Tyre Safe Advice-www.tyresafe.org – Stay Tyre Safe in Your Caravan

Tyre Safe Advice

Tyre Safe Advice; was set up with the responsibility of raising the awareness of the importance of the dangers of defective and worn tyres.

Eric Roberts‘s insight:

Tyre Safe Advice is a must for all Motorists

Probably, all motorists should be aware of the organisation known as TYRESAFE.ORG. For this reason, they are a wonderful organisation .Dedicated to Tyre Safe Advice and tyre road safety. Therefore, the web-site is a must for all motorists . Hence, to learn about all aspects of Tyre Safe Advice.

Tyre Safe Advice Caravan Tyres

  • As with all other types of vehicles. Tyres are the only parts of the caravan and motor-homes . That  are in constant touch with the road surface. Because, this small area of footprint where the tyre is in contact with the road. Gives the vehicle the ability to steer and accelerate. While braking and cornering . Hence, in all types of weather .Although caravans do not have to steer or brake. Because they are a towing vehicle. The motor-home has got drive wheels like all other road vehicles.
  • caravans however do carry weight. So it is very important for the owner . Of course, to thoroughly check their tread and pressures .At regular intervals .Increasing the pressure when the caravan carries more weight. Say when the owner goes on their holidays. How many times do we see a caravan or trailer leaning over . Or swaying about on the carriageway. Well this is due to a deflated tyre or a caravan with the incorrect pressures . All this sort of Tyre Safe Advice . Therefore, is available on the TYRESAFE website . Including, much more valuable information for the motorist to gather . Thus, about their tyres and safety related issues.

Tyre Safe Advice

  • To update this post, although we give excellent Tyre Safe Advice,we have seen the usual crop of caravan accidents that were probably due to the incorrect tyre pressure or the caravans just requiring new tyres. Even so ITyre Safe Advice am convinced that there is a completely good solution to the problem and that would for the caravan manufacturers to fit runflat tyres as standard. The solution would be far better than those awful rim bands that take an inexperienced tyre fitter a lifetime to fit and remove. when a new tyre is  fitted.
  • We are all used to runflats now and have bought special fitting machines for the job. I can not believe that the people who make the caravans have not thought of this before in my opinion it is not rocket science and would be a great safety feature when coupled up with a tyre pressure monitoring system TPMS .

Tyresafe has also many affiliated members including one of their recent members the Camping and Caravan Club

Tyresafe Campaign about part worn tyres; are just not worth the money ?

eric roberts‘s insight:

Pellon tyres are a member of Tyresafe and are concerned about part worn tyres

For all tyre safety matters this is the web-site to look at . So inwardly digest what they are saying.

Before buying Part worn tyres you must look at what they have to say?. To prove a point, the Tyresafe Campaign . By buying sample part worn tyre products from all over the country. Thus, working out the real worth of part worn tyres . Hence,  the facts are startling. As a result, you should not be buying these tyres. Unfortunately, not only could they be dangerous . But” pound for pound” they are not worth the money . Consequently, that you will pay out for them .

What constitutes a part worn tyre to be sold legally?

Many local council trading standards officers . Are pursuing part worn tyre outlets . Frequently, prosecuting the ones that are breaking the law. Not least Warwickshire County Council. Part worn tyres must be checked for cuts, bulges, exposed tyre cords . So, should have no foreign bodies embedded in them . Such as nails and screws. For this reason, they should be clearly marked as part worn tyres. Including, with a minimum tread depth of 2 mm all round. Before they can be sold.

Trading standards officers often pretend to be genuine customers and go round buying part worn tyres, to be tested. Janet Faulkner, Head of Warwickshire Trading Standards Service said:

Tyresafe Partworn Campaign

“Whilst all the tyres we purchased passed the tread depth test, only one was stamped as ‘part-worn’ and two failed because of tread separation or slow pressure loss, neither of which would be obvious to a consumer straight away. Our advice is that it’s always safest to buy brand new tyres, but if you are buying part-worn, make sure the tyre has been tested, check the tread depth, look out for lumps and bumps and keep an eye on the tyre pressure”

For this reason, we have had many of our own customers . Who have paid up to half the price of a cheap new tyre . Than for a part worn. Thus, only to find out that the tyre has only lasted them for a couple of weeks. Complete false economy? This The Tyresafe Campaign is most welcome?

CAR TYRE SAFETY

CAR TYRE SAFETY;Tyresafe are number one for promoting car tyre safety

CAR TYRE SAFETY

CAR TYRE SAFETY; TyreSafe UK logo

Consequently, Pellon tyres are very proud to be members of “Tyresafe. org”. A huge part of the UK Tyre Industry . Therefore, in my opinion they are the number one organisation. Especially, here in the UK. As a result, for the promotion of CAR TYRE SAFETY. Together with, all the safety aspects concerning the Tyre Safety Regulations.Hence, that can possibly be ascertained from tyres and safety on our roads.

A visit to their web-site is a must for all motorists. Undoubtedly, for great advice about everything to do with tyres here in the UK. Even more, all the website content is constantly refreshed. Therefore, to give constant updates about trucks, vans  and car tyres. Furthermore, the latest video about a family of crash test dummies. Called the “McIntyre’s”. Explains about what motorists should do. Thus, to check their tyres at regular intervals. Also, how to check the pressures correctly, this is clear and precise CAR TYRE SAFETY advice to all motorists and is a must to watch.

More reading from Tyresafe …

“Correct pressure, adequate tread depth and tyres which are in a good condition are vital to your CAR TYRE SAFETY on the road. Taking just a few minutes to regularly check these items can ensure you arrive at your destination safely. What’s more, these checks are essential to ensure you stay on the right side of the law and avoid fines of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points for each illegal tyre” http://www.tyresafe.org/tyre-safety/meet-the-mcintyres

Driving on Bad Tyres-Motorists are Still Risking Their Lives,

Do our foreign visitors know about Driving on Bad Tyres, and our tyre laws?

This is a question that I often ask myself as the owner of a tyre company. Have we as an industry educated the public enough about the dangers and safety aspects of having bald or other

Driving on Bad Tyres

Driving on Bad Tyres likt the two out of the four tyres presented for the MOT test

dangerous thing wrong with the tyres on their cars.

Just as in every other walks of life in this world we have different types of people, we have rich and poor, people of different races and colours who all drive cars on our roads and are supposed to uphold the laws of our country, including motoring laws, to make it a safer place for us all to drive about.

We find that different cultures, who come to our countries from different back grounds and cultures, are able to drive a car as soon as the arrive here in the UK. According to the VOSA web site” You can drive in Great Britain on your full, valid driving licence for 12 months from when you became resident” …https://www.gov.uk/driving-nongb-licence/y/a-resident-of-great-britain

This is a good thing in my opinion as it enables a person from another country to drive about, to look for say a job or accommodation. We have all seen the cars driving about from all over the world and in general I think that this is a good thing. I love to visit other countries in my car, it is one of the pleasures in life that I have always enjoyed, but I always check the driving laws of the country that I am visiting before I embark on my journey.

The point that I am making is do we educate drivers enough about the facts about better road safety and the general upkeep of our cars. It seems to me, that as a nation we should be hammering home the safety aspects of driving and looking after your car so that it is also safe to other road users. This also includes immigrants and other foreign visitors including foreign students.

We should perhaps give them a copy of our highway code in their own language, whether or not they will look at it is up to them, but it would be a step forward. In a student website it recommends that if you are going to drive here in the UK then you should buy a copy of the Highway Code available from most bookstores at £2.50. Mixture of foreign visitors that have good knowledge about their tyres

Here in Halifax UK. We have a large mixture of people from other countries and continents. All of them are welcome as our customers. It is an interesting subject to study the different

attitude that people have towards road safety. This includes ALL of our customers, and not just visitors. I think that we should make everybody more aware of the laws and rules that we have to stick to make the UK a better place to drive in.

I have been lucky enough to visit many countries in my life and like most tyre guys I always end up looking at the tyres on the cars, usually in some car park. It is no surprise to me that

Driving on Bad Tyres

The third tyre had a massive crack running all round the sidewall, Driving on Bad Tyres can be very dangerous

the poor countries, such as Egypt that I recently visited, all run on worn out bald tyres, Driving on Bad Tyres  is simply a matter of economics. The richer countries that I have visited, in Europe or the USA all have high standards, because they are richer and can usually afford  to have better tyres fitted to their vehicles. I think that the problem that we in the richer countries are having is the crossover of backgrounds and we should all re-educate the public to keep the high standards that we now enjoy, by some sort of campaign to remind the car driving public about the safety aspects of driving around in cars with tyres that are within the law.

One of the best moves that the British government have made was the introduction of the MOT test, and this model has also now been adapted in many other countries. The MOT test is carried out on the car a does not take into account where the drivers are from or the ethics of the drivers when it comes to road safety. The cars are tested and the failures must be rectified before the car can be driven on the road again.

Many of the worse tyres that we see have been picked up on the MOT Test Requirements and thank goodness for that? We are now finding many more cars that are coming to us with bald or faulty tyres fitted to them, and the tyres have to be changed before the car is road worthy or not.

Here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax we also fit tyres from other garages that carry out MOT tests. One of these garages rang up the other day to ask us to collect four wheels and tyres from an MOT that he had just failed. Jim the other garage owner had asked me to take a look at the condition of these tyres, as he was both amazed and amused at the state of three of the tyres.

Adam one of my drivers picked up the wheels and asked me to take a look. I could not believe that this car had been driving on our roads with his tyres in such bad condition; you can see the state of them in the pictures that we took. Many of the tyre problems that we are coming up with, are stemming from the rise in the sale of part worn tyres and I believe that this covers my whole article, I believe that our standards are being eroded by a lack of education across the whole of the driving public and this should be tackled before the situation gets any worse.

One of the organisations that are supporting the battle against Driving on Bad Tyres are www.tyresafe.org and you can see some of their excellent work by visiting their website.

Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre offer car and van servicing and repairs to all makes of vehicles. We are members of Unipart Car Care centres and give a nationwide guarantee for all our work and parts. eric roberts‘s insight:

Falken tyres sign up with Tyresafe

This is good news for the Tyresafe organisation as they strive forward in their drive to make Britain a safer place by giving advice and safety information to educate the motorists in their quest for safer tyres and the need to check your tyres and tyre pressures at regular intervals.

Tyresafes campaigns are beneficial to the members to enable them to participate in any tyre and road safety events that will come from Tyresafe as the year goes on. Falken tyres, as many other companies do will be able to tie their own campaigns with the ones from Tyresafe to make a coordinated attack on the public about tyre safety and part worn tyres.

Tyresafe have enrolled all types of companies from the tyre trade from single depot businesses like my own company to the giant tyre manufacturers such as Falken tyres from Japan. Tyresafe was originally founded in 2006 and in that period road related deaths resulting in tyre related accidents have fallen by 30%, a great achievement from the Tyresafe safety campaigns across the years.

In fact Tyresafe have now been able to attract other types of organisations and not just garages and tyre outlets, but such people as car manufacturers and local councils along with the emergency services have now joined the cause.

The Falken tyres director that is charge of Ireland and the UK recently explained that tyre safety was at the core of all that the Falken tyres company stood for and firmly believes that activities such as the tyre safety study that was recently carried out a t a primary school had made a real positive difference to society and this combined with the tyre safety objectives in the future will be beneficial to both companies, which is exactly my own sentiments and the reason why my own company joined Tyresafe.

This fatal accident is just part of the reality that sometimes strikes home when we find out the horror that can result in motorists operating on Illegal tread tyres and not checking their tyres at regular intervals. We

Illegal tread tyres

Checking your air pressure could get you out of a sticky situation

only have to be in the wrong time and the wrong place, for an accident to happen. When our cars are in good condition and serviced at regular intervals we have a better chance of getting out of a sticky situation when driving.

AT first I did not want to blog this accident because of the fatalities, but I think it important to point out that these things happen and it could be that if this car had good tyres at the correct Air Pressure, then the outcome could have been different. We in the tyre trade are always preaching to motorists about checking their tyres and tyre pressure, but accidents like this are proof that bad things can happen if you do not service your car and check the tyres at regular intervals .

I would like to pass on my condolences to these girls family.

eric roberts‘s insight:

Tyre safety will go from strength to strength

I must admit I find it very refreshing to see the good work that Tyresafe.org  is contributing to road safety. I joined Tyresafe because I felt that the normal tyre depot owner had nowhere else to go to help in the quest for safer tyres and safer roads.

In the past I have joined other organisations such as the NTDA London (National Tyre Distributors Association) but found myself very disillusioned by everything else that was going on other than road safety.

When I was a member and went to a couple of meetings ,I found myself listening to people talking about golf tournaments and organising a day out at Redcar races, but not very much about tyres or tyre safety. It was not long before I resigned and left them to their own devises.

I then learned about Tyresafe.org and was impressed with their commitment to road safety and tyre things in general, like this Tyre Safety Video . So I decided to join and soon became a member. I have been impressed ever since with their drive and enthusiasm towards the tyre industry and to tyre safety, this is the type of organisation that I am pleased to be a part of.

Indeed Tyresafe are the brains behind this Tyre Safety Video

Many organisations are behind this Tyre Safety Video including the Police and Local councils. I have even seen the Motorway road signs telling drivers to have safe tyres, a great step forward in my opinion.

You should call in to a Auto-centre or your local Goodyear Tyre Care centre and they will check out the state of your tyres, usually for FREE

Naturally, this time of year is when millions of families head out on their  holidays.

Therefore,it is very important to have your car checked over . Including, your tyres.

As a result, you should call in to a Auto-centre . Or your local Goodyear Tyre Care centre. Of course, they will check out the state of your tyres. Usually for FREE. Consequently, if you do want to check the tyres yourself. So, then do not forget things like looking  out for sidewall cracking. Also, if you are carrying any increased loading. Such as luggage or extra passengers. Then increase your tyre pressures accordingly. The pressures should be on the inside of your car door,if not look them up in your cars service manual, once again your local tyre centre will also help you with this.
