Old Fashioned Tyre Repair Method-How Not to Repair a Punctured Tyre

Old Fashioned Tyre Repair Method

(Learn how to repair a punctured tire for $5.00 or less). When I first looked at this video. Of course, I thought it would be useful to show my customers. Naturally, I mean the correct way to repair your tyre. When I watched the video, i was horrified. Of course, in my opinion, this was the total opposite.

The method used in this video is an old fashioned way. We used this method to repair tyres, in the1960,s. If you take your tyre for repairing, and this approach is used, then take your tyre elsewhere for repairing. In my opinion, this method of tyre repairing is totally inadequate. We only use, what we call “mushroom” tyre repair patches. The guy in the video did not even strip the tyre off the wheel and inspect the inside of the tyre. There are many occasions when a nail has entered a tyre and caused secondary damage. The can rub and chaff an area of the tyre away with only a few turns of the wheel. Thereby, causing more damage than is visible from the outside of the tyre.

At Pellon Tyres, we remove the tyre from the wheel and make a complete examination of the tyres interior. Thus, if we have any doubts about the tyres condition, it will be replaced.Of course, on today’s busy roads, we sometimes do not get a second chance. Therefore it is important to do the job in a legal and correct way, the first time around.

The mushroom repair is inserted from the inside of the tyre. As a result of  first applying rubber solution to the cleaned area where the penetration occurred. The mushroom is then pulled through from the outside.Consequently, when both surfaces of the solution, have dried. This does two things. Firstly, the hole is completely sealed and air and water tight. Secondly, the mushroom head is larger that the hole in the tyre. For this reason, the repair cannot come out of the hole.

The tyre is then fitted back onto the wheel and checked under pressure, in a repair tank. For an in-depth explanation about the correct method of how we repair a tyre please go to… http://www.btmauk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Minor-repairs-to-passenger-car-and-light-van-tyres.pdf
