So I must declare that I have a self-interest in what I call the “road to electrification con.”. Firstly, we all could see what a bunch of MP’s can do or, most importantly, can not do. So do we trust this bunch of self-interested politicians to run the country? Especially after the recent yet-to-be-resolved “Brexit Debacle” . In my opinion, these people are just self-interested hypocrites ! Incapable of running my life, and I believe millions of others!

In my little rant, my main concern is about climate change (or so-called climate change). The government is being driven by a minority of so-called “climate change protesters.”. Seemingly without any concern for the millions of people and businesses that have a long time been connected to the motor industry. Consequently, as we now know,. of course we do not have a say in the matter! Personally, like millions of other people, I do not believe in “climate change.”.

Cars and Climate Change has always occurred through natural events. My belief is that we are all going to be punished at the hands of a minority of protesters. Importantly, our delusional MP’s are getting sucked into this false news . I am an avid listener to LBC and one of the contributors comments inspired me to write this post. I actually agreed with his views.

No one questions the protesters rhetoric

It makes my blood boil to hear these people spout out about the planet coming to an end in the next twenty years. Also the fact that we are losing  thousands of species of animals . These people should be drilled down and share the true facts. Our MP’s just seam to be sucking all this false news up. many of us are old enough to remember days that when there was real air pollution ! Our Northern towns and buildings are still coloured black due to the dirty air and filth that we had to breath as children of the sixties and seventies.

So, where were the thousands of dying animal species then ? The truth is, there weren’t any and we just got on with life. TNew clean air laws passed by a generation of more sensible statesmen, like MPs, did make things better.Clean air was taken seriously and, in my opinion, was very successful . With the exception of London, I think we must all agree that we do breath in much cleaner air. My own house is now 35 years old and built out of the same Yorkshire stone as many of our old town and city buildings. The difference being is that my house is as clean as it was when it was first built ! There is no dirty air where we live.

London is going to penalize us all !

There is no doubt in my mind that the excessive immigration and poor infrastructure in London will harm us all. In fact, I, like many others, am sick and tired of listening to the way that the problem is being looked at. As an outsider (thank God), all I hear is of banning Cars and Climate change. All i can see is that it is a way of taxing London motorists ! Nothing more, nothing less. So, if London was so dirty, then why not just ban cars from the central area ! Surely this would clean up the so-called polluted air !

Like millions of others I do believe the Cars and Climate Change but only because change happens. The planet is well overdue for a major volcanic eruption. So, just lets see what the “climate change brigade” has to say about that !

Millions of trees

So, as a keen naturalist and gardener I just wonder how many trees we have planted since gardening became popular in the sixties. I recon it must be in the millions. Also why have the big cities and towns allowed people to concrete over their gardens. Surely, this was a another big mistake. The protesters are only now telling us  we must plant more trees “But we did !

Driving around the UK (as I do), you cant help notice what a green and pleasant land we live in. Millions will agree that we as keen gardeners have made our country a clean and healthy country to live in ! How far do these people want us to go. Surely there must be limits on how they want to penalize us all ? Especially those of us who live outside the dreaded London area.

However, my main concern is that of the advent of the “electric car”. Cars and Climate Change

Car manufacturers have now proven that most of our diesel and petrol cars are now very clean indeed. Electric cars are charged with “dirty” electricity from dirty power stations. So, whats the difference ! My main concern is the effect that this will have on the millions of people now employed in the “motor industry” as we now now it. So, the coal industry springs to mind ! I must admit that the decimation of the coal industry did clean things up. Especially, here in the North.

Millions of jobs were lost in the coal industry. Most of the citizens of London probably dont know anything about fear and anxiety that was thrust across the whole of the North and Wales. Now it looks like we are going to suffer again just to improve the lifes of Londoners. We already have the technology for clean cars with low emissions. How much more do we have to suffer at the hands a few thousand climate change protesters. Its pathetic how the government gives in to them.

What a vastly different world we live in today. many of us will remember the “horse mounted police” charging at the coal miners who were only fighting for their jobs ! Compared with today when “climate change protesters! held a the city of London to ransom while police officers did a dance with them! Just shows how week the people who represent us really are. Now they threaten more action at Heathrow airport ! They should be locked away along with their fake climate change propaganda.

I do believe that electric cars will be  a mix of automotive technologies, but at what cost ! How far does our tiny island have to suffer just so the “political class” can try and gain “browny points” at their World summits. How much do the people have to suffer when we get these silly ideas rammed down out throats. I believe that most of us dont want electric cars ! But have we been asked about it ! NO.

Its the developing countries that need to be targeted India and China would be just a start. In my opinion enough is enough. personally I am one of the millions who have now reached seventy years old. Because we live in a clean and healthy country. Except poor old London of course ?

Finally, I wonder what our fine  government has got in line for us.

Significantly, when they can no longer rely on the trillions of tax revenue. Of course, the fuel tax they will lose due to the electrification of cars being forced on us ? My opinion is that we will all have a little black box fitted to our cars and taxed on the mileage that we do. Of course it wont bother the green warriors ! Because, they will all be riding horses.

Also what are the oil producing countries going to do. In my opinion they will slash the price of oil to the west. Making electrification of our cars look even more expensive. Money talks. Just ask Donald Trump ! He does not want to penalize the American people by implementing punishing “green laws” realising that everything has a price. Punitive emission targets are a folly and the government should be prevented from penalizing the British. We are already achieving high standards for such a small country and enough is enough.

It comes as no surprise that the first autonomous systems. Able to control steering, braking, and accelerating. So, have already started appearing in cars. Automobile giants like Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, Volvo, and Audi have all shown off cars that can drive themselves. As a result, they have all declared that within a decade. They plan to sell some form of advanced automated cars.

Thus taking over driving on highways or being able to park themselves in a garage.

Google, meanwhile, is investing millions in autonomous driving software. Subsequently, its driverless cars have become a familiar sight. Especially on the highways around Silicon Valley. Hence, over the last several years,.

The first autonomous systems, which are able to control most of the cars systems,. Therefore, have already started appearing in cars. The big car manufacturers have all shown off cars that can drive themselves. I must confess that this is something that I cant get my head around? The thought of all these cars bobbing about town scares the pants off me.

Especially in small towns with Victorian infrastructure

such as in Halifax here in the UK. So it may be OK in Silicon valley, but not many other places. I realise that, If we think about it, we humans actually make terrible drivers. Not to mention reckless drivers. People who fiddle with their phones, maps or GPS while driving are responsible for significant number of accidents.

The software that self-driving cars use is smart enough to detect the wait time at traffic signals and also on road stops, which would reduce unnecessary traffic congestion on busy streets. I do agree, though, with the people who took part in this survey. if I lived in a town or city, I would move to the country. Escape would be the only way. However, I do not think it will  happen in my lifetime?

I must admit that I am losing the plot regarding the number of alternative-fueled cars that are now being developed. On the other hand, I am very pleased that other forms of fuel are been experimented with.

None of these companies has yet disclosed any sales figures, but their fuels represent much larger pieces of the alternative fuel market. The EIA report for 2016 included less than In the United States, about 500 hydrogen-fueled vehicles are in use, and about 330 of those are registered in California.

that have been around forever. Then, there are two main types of engines available. Of course, there are two main types: gasoline combustion engines and diesel engines. Or a diesel compression engine.

To explain the differences, we must first explain the similarities. Hence, of both engine types. In my opinion, we should use a four cylinder engine. So as the basic model. Because it is common in both petrol and diesel configurations,.

As a result, in both diesel and petrol engines

The following holds true:. Both engine types convert burning fuel into mechanical energy. Of course, through a common series of explosions. Thus, inside the engine’s combustion chambers. All very basic stuff? These explosions force the crank to rotate. This, in turn, is by design. Forces another piston in the line up into the bore of the next cylinder in the firing order. This repeats the process over and over again. Resulting in the rotation of the engine.

In a normal compressed fuel engine, . Then the fuel/air mix is compressed and then ignited. Which is what drives the engine. The Mazda system does the same thing as a conventional diesel engine but uses petrol. Subsequently, the fuel/air mixture is first heated and then compressed by the piston. Thus to the extent at which it creates combustion spontaneously.

This has never been done in the past. The Mazda system works very much the same way as our conventional diesel engines but fires on combustion using petrol. Consequently, it burns much less fuel. Therefore making the engine much more environmentally friendly.

Importantly, this is one of those pieces of advice to help other drivers! Not to make the same mistake. On a recent visit to France, we were running out of diesel in our Peugeot Partner van. My wife and I sometimes drive down to France to take a few things with us. When we had a house in the south-west of France,. This time, we needed to take down a new oven. Because the oven we had was 7 years old and the paint was peeling off. We decided to buy the oven back in the UK. Simply because, when we checked online, ovens were cheaper here in the UK.

We also had some trash to take to the local tip in France. So the van seemed the best option. Another key point is that our van is only about 18 months old. Having all the mod-cons that you would find in a modern car.Including air-conditioning and a plug point for the iPod. So that we can listen to our own choice of music.(French radio stations are not easy to pick up and the music’s not very good)

The journey had gone well and we were having good time.

In any event, we pulled into a service station on the A16 motorway to fill up with diesel. I filled the Peugeot Partner Van up with diesel . Carefully, then started to put the fuel cap back into the diesel tank port. Michelle, my wife, went to pay the fuel bill. When inserting the Peugeot Partner Van fuel cap,. Stupidly, I fumbled with the cap ! Which then did not go straight into the hole. Struggling, I twisted it a bit before the fuel cap finally went into place ! Unknowingly, I had accidentally triggered off the Peugeot Partner Van Fuel Cap theft Sensor.

Quickly, I then jumped back into the cab to wait for my wife .

Surprisingly, the wipers had automatically switched on ! Then, to my horror, they would not switch off ! Added to that, all  the lights were also flashing on and off. Scarily, the Peugeot Partner Van would not start ? This was a nightmare. I was panicking. Calmly, my wife rang the AA, Luckily, we had taken out continental breakdown cover.

Shockingly, the AA told us that we were not covered on a French service station. Alternately, we had to call the police, who would tow us off the services. So,to a suitable location. The mechanic knew what to do right away; all he did was disconnect the battery and let the system re-set itself. All this, from start finish, only delayed our journey by about an hour.

The mechanic made an invoice out for the AA and we gave him 20-euro tip and we all went on our way.

So if this happens to you, just dis-connect the battery and the whole thing will re-set itself.

I am the owner of a small independent garage in Halifax, UK. Then I am determined not to be left behind . Hence, in the new technology car race,. For this reason, we are going to participate in as much learning about “hybrid “cars” as I think will dominate the future car market. There is no doubt that “hybrid cars” are wonderful for the environment.

Of course, they can get 55–60 miles per gallon in city driving. In my opinion, Hybrid cars are much better than electric cars. There is no need to recharge them. Another disadvantage of pure electric cars. Hence, this is a limited journey. Electric cars can only do a certain amount of travel before they require recharging at a charging station.

As a business owner who collects and delivers, I would find this unacceptable? Not knowing if your van would return or not during a days work would be out of the question? Of course, at the moment, all we have to do is make sure that we have sufficient petrol or diesel. So to complete our journey,. So, over recent years, I seem to have had a run of cars with clutch problems. Consequently, that has been brought into my garage, Pellon-Autocentre, here in Halifax, UK. I think that most garages will have these kinds of cars with different problems. Sometimes it may be brake problems or sometimes we have a run of exhaust pipes dropping off. This particular time, there have been clutch problems.

Yesterday was no exception? Sure enough, first thing in the morning, an AA transporter turned up on the forecourt. So, with a silver car strapped to the back,. Fortunately, an old customer of ours was in the car. When his Focus was unloaded. He came into the reception to explain what had happened.

He told us that he had recently been working away in the south of England. While he was away, he started to have problems with his clutch. He told us that one morning he was driving to work from his accommodation and called in for some diesel. When he arrived back at the car, the biting point of the clutch was very close to the car floor. Also, the rest of the pedal was very sloppy and loose.

Subsequently, he is a builder for a housing association. Who own properties all over the UK, The head office is here in Halifax .He sometimes has to work away to help sort problems out. Although he was having great difficulty selecting his gears. When he first bought the  Focus about 18 months earlier, he was told that the car had recently been fitted with a new clutch ! Of course, this was one of the reasons that he had bought the car. Visibly, it appeared to be in good condition.

He called out a local garage that topped up the slave cylinder. I was also telling him that the clutch pedals on these Fords have a black plastic hinge-type thing attached to it. Importantly, this is what pushes the master cylinder in. A metal rod attaches this hinge to the pedal. A clip is what holds the hinge in place, and this clip is detachable. So causing the cars clutch problem. The garage resolved this, and for a few days, everything appeared to be fine with the Focus.

He noticed a slight smell coming from the car’s cab, but he did not know what it was. It was apparently clutch fluid that had leaked from his previous problem. The guy told us that after the

garage reportedly had sorted the Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi problem out, but the car gear change was still a bit lumpy. After the job was complete, the guy decided to risk it and drive the car back home to the north via the M1.

He decided to call in at the services for something to eat and a rest. On his return to the car, he found that once again the clutch pedal was down to the floor pan of the car, but unlike before, there was no bite at all on the clutch. His company had provided their staff with AA breakdown cover for their employees who travelled away to work, and so the guy promptly called the AA out to the services.

Inspected by the AA

The AA man inspected the cars clutch cylinder to check the level but soon noticed that the cylinder was empty of fluid. He said that the Ford  was susceptible to these type of  problems and diagnosed a broken master cylinder. There was nothing that he could do as far as road side assistance, and so he proceeded to load the car onto the back of his transporter in order to take the car to the garage of his choice, which was our garage in Halifax.

When I proceeded to put the car on lift, I found that clutch fluid was seeping out at the bottom of the clutch housing through one of the vent holes that are there to collect dust and dirt to evacuate the housing. We diagnosed the problem as a master cylinder failure and reported back to the customer, who by this time had borrowed one of our courtesy cars and gone back to work somewhere here in Yorkshire.

We removed the Ford Focus gearbox and clutch housing to reveal yet more problems?

The engine was dropped, as was the gearbox. Removed, and then the Ford Focus clutch housing was separated. Revealing the clutch assembly. We found that the hydraulic cylinder bearing had, in fact, a broken seal and needed replacing. Then we found that although the Focus diesel should have been fitted with a duel mass flywheel,. Subsequently, this car had been converted to a solid single flywheel.

Including a normal-type clutch plate and to make matters worse! Incidentally, both were damaged. The flywheel was broken, and the clutch plate was worn out and also needed replacing.

We phoned the customer on his mobile! Of course, he was not very pleased, to say the least. Having expected the clutch to last him more than the 18 months that it had lasted since he bought the car. The old parts were saved for the customer to look at as we always do. Another small problem also occurred? We had some difficulty matching a new single clutch plate with a new solid flywheel, as the old one was a cheap clutch plate and had no part numbers on to match a new one.

With the help of the motor factors, we were able to find the correct parts and rebuild the whole assembly. The car works fine now, and the customer went away highly delighted after his initial shock.

When the customer had left, I looked at some Ford forums about the conversion to a single clutch assembly, and the general consensus is that it is fine to do it. In fact, Ford Transits can be converted by using genuine Ford parts. That is made especially for these conversions. Also, I have heard that many taxi companies convert their taxis to the single clutch system.
