As the batteries become fully charged and are no longer able to accept any further electrical energy. Consequently, the battery voltage will rise. Of course, when the voltage reaches the regulation level (varies with battery type see below) So, starts to dump power the controller’s lights are a solid red. Naturally, this energy is dissipated as heat into the surrounding environment. Significantly, more or less power is diverted to the dump load. Ford Fiesta batteries, bad weather and a bit of Yorkshire reality

The latest victim of our wonderful UK weather rolled into the yard this morning – a Ford Fiesta, wanting nothing more than a free battery check. The owner said it had let them down a couple of times recently, especially on cold starts. A quick test confirmed what they already suspected: the battery had had enough. A new quality Lucas battery was fitted, and the Fiesta was soon back on the road, ready to face whatever the Calderdale weather throws at it next.

It’s a story we see day in, day out at the garage, and one that ties in nicely with just how important the Ford Fiesta has been to motorists here in Halifax and across Yorkshire.

A proper British motoring icon: Ford Fiesta for New Lucas Battery

The Ford Fiesta has been part of UK life since 1976, when the first one hit our roads. Back then, Britain was changing fast – rising fuel prices, tighter budgets, and a need for small, affordable cars that were cheap to run. The Fiesta fitted the bill perfectly.

Early models were basic, but they were tough, simple, and easy to maintain. They became hugely popular with:

  • Young drivers
  • Families looking for a second car
  • Older motorists wanting something reliable and easy to live with

By the 1980s and 1990s, the Fiesta was everywhere – parked outside terraces, supermarkets, mills, and factories. Around Halifax and the Calder Valley, they were ideal for narrow streets, steep hills, and everyday running about.

Generation after generation, Ford kept refining it. Better engines, more comfort, improved safety, and later on, lots of electrical extras. For many people, a Fiesta wasn’t just a car – it was their first car, their learner car, or the car that took them to work through rain, frost, and snow year after year.

When Ford finally ended Fiesta production in 2023, it marked the end of an era. Few cars have served the UK public as faithfully.

Why Fiesta batteries often fail early

Modern Fiestas – and most modern cars – are far harder on batteries than the older ones ever were. Years ago, a battery mainly started the engine and powered the lights. Now, it has to cope with much more.

Here are the most common reasons we see batteries failing prematurely, especially around Halifax and Calderdale.

Short journeys in cold weather

This is the big one. Lots of local driving, short hops to the shops, school runs, or into town don’t give the battery enough time to recharge properly. Add cold, damp weather, and the battery slowly weakens without the driver realising.

Stop-start systems: Ford Fiesta for New Lucas Battery

Many later Fiestas have stop-start technology. While it saves fuel, it puts extra strain on the battery, which is why these cars need the correct specification battery fitted. The wrong one won’t last.

Cold Yorkshire winters

Cold weather reduces a battery’s power just when the engine needs more effort to turn over. Damp air, frost, and constant heater use don’t help either. Around here, batteries work hard for their living.

Electrical drain: Ford Fiesta for New Lucas Battery

Even when parked up, modern cars are never fully “off”. Alarm systems, immobilisers, clocks, and control units all take a small amount of power. Leave a car standing for a while, especially in winter, and a weak battery soon shows its age.

Age and quality

Most car batteries last 4–6 years at best. Cheap batteries often fail sooner, which is why we prefer fitting trusted brands like Lucas. Spending a little more usually saves money and hassle in the long run.

A bit of local understanding: Ford Fiesta for New Lucas Battery

We know how frustrating it is when a car lets you down, especially in bad weather. Nobody wants to be stuck on a cold Halifax morning with places to be and hills to climb. That’s why a simple battery check can make all the difference.

In this case, the Fiesta owner did exactly the right thing – came in early, got it tested, and avoided another breakdown. With a new Lucas battery fitted, they drove away with peace of mind, which is what really matters.

Final thoughts

The Ford Fiesta has earned its place in British motoring history, especially here in Yorkshire, where reliability counts for everything. But even the most dependable cars need a healthy battery to cope with modern demands and our unforgiving weather.

If your car is struggling to start, especially on cold mornings, don’t ignore it. A quick check now can save a lot of bother later.

Cold Weather Brings Battery Trouble to Halifax – And Why We Trust Lucas Batteries

A sudden drop in temperature across Halifax and the Calderdale valleys always brings the same problem through our doors – flat and failing car batteries.

Cold weather is hard on batteries. Overnight frosts, short winter journeys, heaters, lights and demisters all take their toll. A battery that’s been “just about coping” through autumn can suddenly give up when winter properly bites.

And that’s exactly what happened to our very first customer of the day.

The Kia Picanto That Didn’t Dare Switch Off

As soon as we opened the garage doors, a Kia Picanto rolled onto the forecourt – engine still running.

The driver explained he didn’t dare switch it off. He already knew the battery was struggling and was worried we might not have one in stock. If he turned the engine off, it might not start again.

Luckily for him – and for many other drivers in Halifax – we keep a strong stock of quality Lucas batteries, and we had the correct one ready to go.

We swapped the old battery out, fitted a new Lucas battery, checked the charging system, and had him back on the road quickly and confidently. No jump leads, no push starts, no stress.

That’s exactly how it should be.

Why We Rely on Lucas Batteries: Kia Picanto for New Battery

We don’t mess about with cheap, short-life batteries – especially in our part of Yorkshire, where cold starts are part of daily life.

Lucas is a name most motorists recognise, and for good reason.

  • Long-established British heritage
  • Built for UK driving conditions
  • Strong cold-cranking performance
  • Reliable lifespan, even on short journeys
  • Excellent value for money

In places like Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Elland, Brighouse and the Calder Valley, cars often do:

  • short local trips
  • cold morning starts
  • stop-start town driving
  • hills that put extra load on the battery

That’s why we choose Lucas – they cope better with real-world Yorkshire driving.

We’re proud to be main agents for Lucas batteries in the Halifax/Calderdale area, and we always aim to have the right battery on the shelf when you need it – not “order it for tomorrow”.

A Bit of Kia Picanto History in the UK: Kia Picanto for New Battery

The Kia Picanto has become a very common sight on local roads, and with good reason.

First introduced to the UK in the early 2000s, the Picanto was Kia’s answer to affordable, reliable town motoring. Over the years it’s built a solid reputation for:

  • low running costs
  • easy driving
  • good fuel economy
  • reliability for everyday use

They’re popular with:

  • first-time drivers
  • commuters
  • older drivers
  • families needing a second car

But like many small cars, the Picanto often does short journeys, which means the battery doesn’t always get a proper recharge – especially in winter. That’s why battery issues are one of the most common problems we see on them at this time of year.

A Simple Winter Message for Local Drivers: Kia Picanto for New Battery

If your car:

  • cranks slowly
  • struggles on cold mornings
  • needs a jump start
  • or you’re keeping the engine running “just in case”

Then your battery is already telling you something.

Don’t wait until it lets you down in the supermarket car park or outside work.

At Pellon Tyre & Autocentre, we:

  • supply and fit quality Lucas batteries
  • test your charging system
  • give honest advice
  • and get you sorted quickly

Especially when winter tightens its grip on Calderdale.

It’s also worth remembering that batteries rarely fail without warning. In cold spells like we get here in Halifax and across Calderdale, we often see cars that have been starting a little slower for weeks, but people put it down to “just the weather”.

Unfortunately, once the temperature drops properly, that weakened battery simply hasn’t got the strength left. That’s why we always advise getting it checked early – especially if your car is used mainly for short local trips around town.

A quick battery test can save a lot of inconvenience, and if it does need replacing, having a trusted Lucas battery fitted gives proper peace of mind through the winter months.

The 10-year-old battery is to blame for Kia Sorento’s starting issues, by Eric at Pellon Tyres, Halifax

We were enjoying our first brew of the day on a chilly and soggy Monday morning when a customer arrived on our forecourt with a really sour-sounding engine. The car in question? A **Kia Sorento**, a robust and well-liked SUV, is a common sight on UK roads, particularly in hilly areas like our charming town of **Halifax**.

The gentleman clarified that the automobile had been sluggish to start for a few weeks, particularly on chilly mornings, and that it had almost refused to start today. He prudently brought it in so we could properly examine it.

Kia Sorento New Lucas Battery
Kia Sorento New Lucas Battery

Initial Steps: Battery Test

We started working on our standard testing procedure. Dale, our battery and diagnostics specialist, promptly determined the cause: the battery was nearing its end of life. It should come as no surprise that we found the date code to be **10 years old!**

An automobile battery boasts an impressive lifespan** of 10 years. These days, the average automobile battery lasts **4 to 7 years**, depending on conditions, usage, and, of course, the good old British weather.

Let’s be honest: Halifax experiences a good number of rainy mornings, cold starts, and brief trips up and down steep roads. Car batteries suffer as a result of all of this.

A Brief Overview of the Kia Sorento

For those who do not know, the **Kia Sorento** is a mid-size SUV that was introduced to the UK market in 2003. Although it was first designed with families and drivers who desired a little more room and comfort in mind, it has also established a good reputation for dependability and stability.

Some Land Rover drivers were startled by the early Sorentos’ off-road capabilities because they were built on a genuine ladder-frame chassis. However, with all the modern conveniences, the Sorento has become more of a family-friendly highway cruiser over time. They still retain some of their rough appeal, though, and you can still see the older ones battling on in locations like **Ogden**, **Elland**, and **Hebden Bridge**.

Aside from the worn-out battery, our customer’s Sorento was a second-generation model, most likely a **2014 reg**, and it was still in good condition and had been well-maintained.

The Reasons Car Batteries Die, Particularly Up Here

Living in **West Yorkshire** doesn’t help either. Car batteries don’t just quit working for no reason; there are generally a few contributing variables. Here are some typical explanations for why we wind up altering so many:

Cold Weather – Cold temperatures cause batteries to lose their power. Every time there is a frost, we observe an increase in battery-related problems.
Short Visits – Halifax isn’t particularly flat, and we don’t have an abundance of dual carriageways. Your battery won’t have enough time to recharge if you drive quickly.
Old Age – Some simply survive longer than others, much like the battery in this Kia. However, if you’re in the 7–10 year bracket, you’re in a vulnerable position.
Inadequate Charging – Your battery won’t stay charged if the alternator isn’t working properly or if the belt is slipping.
Sitting Motionless – Vehicles with seldom use – particularly during lockdowns or the winter – frequently experience dead or flat batteries.

Has a New Battery Been Installed—Ready for Another Decade?

The customer authorised us to install a new **Lucas** battery, one of our favourite and most reliable brands, when we were certain that the battery was the issue. About **20 minutes** were needed for the fitting, and we always make sure to check the charging system during that time.

With the Sorento now starting every time, we quickly had the customer back on the road. Good times!

Local Tip: Avoid Waiting Too Long

It might be time to **get your battery checked** if you live in the Halifax area and your car is beginning to have trouble on chilly mornings. Here at Pellon Tyres, we provide a **free battery check** that could prevent you from needing a jump start on a chilly school run morning. It takes no more than five to ten minutes.

Whether you drive a Ford, Kia, or something else entirely, we are always here to help.

Do yourself a favour and stop by to see us if you’re driving an older Sorento that still has its original battery. Having maintained Halifax since **1989**, we are able to recognise a dead battery!

Keep yourself warm and safe outside.

Nissan Qashqai Starter Replacement

The Nissan Qashqai’s starter motor has to be replaced in Halifax due to starting issues.

The other day, the Nissan Qashqai we had scheduled for service at Pellon Tyre and Autocentre in Halifax arrived with a typical problem: starting issues. According to the owner, the car had started to turn over a little erratically, especially in the morning or after standing for a few hours. The sort of thing when the familiar engine doesn’t turn over and you get that awful quiet instead.

When we placed the starter motor on the ramp and conducted a few checks, it became clear that it had failed. We’ve seen this a lot before, so there won’t be any major drama for us. However, it’s always worthwhile to write about, particularly for Qashqai owners who might encounter similar issues.

Some Information Regarding the Nissan Qashqai

In the UK, the Nissan Qashqai has been an incredible success. Actually, it was conceived in London and constructed at the Sunderland plant with us Brits in mind. One of the first true crossover SUVs, it was introduced in 2007 and had the handling and cost of a hatchback but the appearance and feel of a 4×4. With its spacious cargo, elevated driving position, comfortable ride, and respectable fuel economy, it fulfilled every need of British families.

We have received a wide variety of Qashqais over the years, ranging from the first models to the more modern, streamlined, and technologically advanced variants. With good cause, they are now among the best-selling vehicles in the UK. Ideal for Halifax’s steep hills and twisting roads, particularly during the winter when a little ground clearance is beneficial.

Why Do Motors Start? Nissan Qashqai Starter Replacement

The starting motor is one of those components that you don’t give much thought to until it stops functioning, much like many other parts beneath the hood. Its primary function is to start the engine when the key is turned or the start button is pressed. It starts the engine by drawing a large amount of electricity from the battery and spinning everything around until it starts.

However, they deteriorate with time. The motor’s internal contacts and brushes are susceptible to wear down or burning, particularly if it has been subjected to more strain than usual. That may occur if the battery hasn’t been performing at its best or if the engine has been difficult to start. There may be a clicking sound occasionally, or there may be complete stillness. That is a sign that something is amiss.

The Qashqai’s starting motor was clearly in need of repair. No amount of gentle coaxing could revive it. We therefore found a high-quality substitute and had it exchanged for the client. The team swiftly finished the task, leaving on the same day, and the Qashqai was back in working order.

Take Care of the Battery as Well – Nissan Qashqai Starter Replacement

It’s important to bring up the battery while discussing starters. The battery’s insufficient juice supply is the root cause of many beginning problems. Batteries dislike the cold, and we’ve experienced a few chilly mornings lately, especially during the colder months up here in Halifax.

It’s always worthwhile to stop in for a free battery test if your car is turning over more slowly than usual or has warning lights on. Our digital tester will inspect it, and if it’s on the way out, we have several premium brands, such as Varta and Bosch, available for installation.

Local Dependability Is Important- Nissan Qashqai Starter Replacement

We see how much people in Halifax depend on their automobiles, whether they are travelling to Sowerby Bridge for business or running up the Warley hills for school. One of the things you take for granted until it’s absent is a dependable start. It’s prudent to monitor items such as batteries and starting motors to prevent stranding.

Therefore, don’t wait too long if your Qashqai (or any other automobile for that matter) is having trouble starting. Let’s have a look at Pellon Tyres if you stop by. It could be a straightforward issue, but if it’s the starter motor, we have the equipment and know-how to solve it quickly.

Another job crossed off the list, and another contented Qashqai is back on the road.

Power Storage Tesla battery

Power Storage Tesla battery
Power Storage Tesla battery

Power Storage Tesla battery

Ever wish you could ditch your electric bill? Tesla is working on a house battery that could help you break up with your expensive utility company, essentially turning any home into an off-grid abode.

Is it legal to run off grid in the USA! I might  sound pessimistic, but what if you are having problems with your battery power storage ?

Battery Power storage will be part of the big energy mix in the future!

This whole scenario of battery Power Storage and off grid electricity! So, is now going above my head? Tesla cars are now claiming that the Lithium-Ion battery unit. Of course, that drives their cars.  Could be used to store solar energy for the average family home for a good three and a  half days. (or should it be nights).

You see, I can’t get my head around this fact! Significantly-Power Storage Tesla battery

Regarding the power that we would need to power the average home,. Would be cheaper than the power supplied the grid. The total cost of solar panels or wind turbines combined with a large enough battery storage pack that would adequately cope with all the power that was needed without totally flattening the batteries

and looking after itself when the owners were away would surely outweigh the cost of mains electricity You would also need a backup diesel generator to use as a backup up for your solar system should

I know that there are whole island populations that are now using a solar power electricity system that has a huge battery power storage system that fits into a 20-foot container. A French battery company named Saft set up the system. Consequently, the island is in the Caribbean group of islands. So can rely on a constant supply of sunshine. But the experts say that these systems can work across most of the world, using the sun that is available to them.

I have seen something similar here in the UK-Power Storage Tesla battery

I am not sure if there are many other battery projects on the go. But the way I see it as a layman, is that all the experts from all the countries are just going there one way, when what is needed is the getting together of heads and experimenting on housing developments that are nothing like the ones today. These developments would be away from the national grid and would be totally environmentally friendly using all the latest materials for insulation, (I see that here in the UK we are starting to revert back to straw as an insulation material).

Importantly, with the homes facing the right way (south) and totally insulated. This, in my opinion, is going the right way. However, to go further, each development should have its own battery-powered Power Storage system. Which connects all the homes together. Solar panels and, if possible, a wind turbine will power the initial electricity.

In my opinion the problem lies with the fact that everything is based on converting new systems from old. But I do not think this will work. You cannot just disconnect yourself from the grid! Because of many other issues. Including where the old electric cables run. Of course, what if you wanted to sell the house. Because, it will be mixing lots of old problems with new problems. I have solar panels fitted to my roof and think that they look fine. However, I know some people who hate the site of them! I won’t even go into wind-turbines.

I am just scratching the surface here.-Power Storage Tesla battery

We need some good joined-up thinking and we need to build proper working experimental housing developments using the latest technology and test it out over a number of years. When I hear Tesla talking about their car battery storage power for home owners, it makes me cringe,

It would probably be capable of this but we should be talking collectively and build whole communities using the latest methods and a collective battery storage system, not load of individuals using all sorts of mismatched battery storage systems that you can find instruction on how to do on YouTube.

Most of our towns and cities will always be run off the national grids, for well into the future; our infrastructures are too old to cope with major changes.

There is no doubt in my mind that battery power will be the future, wherever it comes from, but we should get our heads together and build proper, sustainable, environmentally friendly housing using only the power of the elements, This would be the way forward and if you read this article and know of such experiments taking place, please let me know.

Please note these are the words and opinion of the author (Eric Roberts) only. Neither the author nor the website can be held responsible for any errors or omissions. You should seek professional assistance if in doubt about your choice of battery. The article may contain a link to Batteriesontheweb where you can buy battery products online.

Exploding battery

Exploding battery

Exploding battery!
Exploding battery

Exploding battery

You wouldn’t want to encounter the following in your own garage, by the way. This is a classic instance of a battery that has made the decision to waver significantly. Our customer approached us, slightly perturbed, and stated that the battery was defective. I’m willing to wager that this was not their initial intention when they obtained it.

At this moment, we are examining what is commonly referred to as an “exploded” battery

. It is somewhat misleading in that there is no tangible detonation as depicted in films. Quite literally, it appears to have experienced a calamitous internal hissy fit and been unable to hold itself together. This occurs when the internal components, which are intended to be separate and comfortable, determine they no longer prefer to be apart and combine in an, um, less-than-ideal fashion.

It is, however, extremely uncommon;

When it does occur, there are several potential causes. Overcharging is a prevalent factor; consider consuming an excessive amount of food on a daily basis while expecting your trousers to remain in place; something must yield. Alternately, a short circuit may occur, which is analogous to connecting the incorrect ends of a pair of jumper cables by accident; negative sparks will erupt.

This means that our customer,

as well as anyone else in a similar situation, requires a reliable substitute; this is precisely where we enter the picture. We will ensure that they obtain a high-quality battery that meets their requirements, and we will also discuss maintenance tips to prevent them from ever having to observe the internal workings of their battery externally again.

Keep in mind that the battery is the beating core of your vehicle.

Maintain it charged without overcharging it, and it will serve you with the utmost loyalty of a Yorkshire Terrier. Furthermore, should you have any uncertainties, feel free to visit our garage or explore our battery-selling websites. We have the knowledge and equipment necessary to propel you along the winding roads of the United Kingdom.

Battery Storage systems

Battery Storage systems

Because of the way that we built our national power plants. Interestingly, in some cases over a hundred years ago. Importantly, will have to change in the future! Of course, to meet our electrical needs. So for the production of solar energy and its distribution. Through our home solar panels collections and solar collection farms. Including the wind turbine installations.

So the original “national grid” plants were originally owned by the government. But in recent times, were privatized here in the UK by the Conservative government. Of course, led by “Margret Thatcher“. These massive coal and gas powered installations distributed power all over the “British Isles“.

Subsequently, many of the power stations were located in coal mining areas of Yorkshire. Importantly, where the coal was transported locally. Resulting in the electricity being sent across the country. Carried on massive power line systems. Then diverted into smaller sub-stations. So, then before distributed to homes and businesses. Of course, usually in an underground power network.

Things are about to change: Battery Storage systems

In recent times we have seen massive investment into the solar energy collecting market. Including, the introduction of new technologies.  Such as wind turbines and solar panel farms that turn the sun and the winds energy into producing electricity. Most people will now have seen these giant turbines across the countryside of most countries.

Technological advances

including battery storage systems will soon mean that things may have to change in the near future. Importantly, for these nationalized electric companies. Increasingly, as the end consumers start to install solar systems to their homes. Including many businesses across the world.

The price of fitting

a solar system to your roof has come down dramatically. mainly because things have become mass produced and affordable. Helping people reduce their electric bills. The only other problem has been that the power produced could not be stored! Until recent years when battery storage systems have become widely available. So, becoming more easily installed using a few simple instructions.

Advantage to isolated communities- Battery Storage systems

This has become of great benefit to cut off people who live in the country. Or in larger countries the “wilderness” . Of course, who are now able to make the production of electricity.  Storing it for the night use when the sun goes down. This can also lower the cost of their energy . Consequently, which has gradually become one of the most expensive household items in recent years.

Interestingly, I have electricity-collecting panels on my roof.

Selling the electricity back to my provider. Thus reducing my electric bills by half. Here in the UK, we are limited to the number of solar panels to one roof. For this reason, I don’t think that we are allowed to be self-sufficient. Of course, by producing all our own electricity. However, some countries are different. Such as the USA, where consumers can go their own way.

In many people’s opinions, the day is not too far away when our roof panels will generate electricity, which will be stored in a battery storage system. The householder will own an electric car, and along with powering the rest of the house, the battery bank will also charge your car battery at night, making you totally self-sufficient in electric power.

As I have said this is a perfect scenario for the perfect little houses in a perfect little village, but what about the rest of the population who live in multiple units and don’t even have their own roofs? Could we be looking at communal units of solar panels and storing the electricity in a battery bank, or is that a dream?

Island communities go solar-sufficient- Battery Storage systems

Perhaps not, because I have heard of some island communities that have become self-sufficient by using this method. The batteries are packed into a 20-foot cargo container, and the battery Storage systems will store electricity to be used at night. This also eliminated power failures due to storms and broken cables causing outages. The sun-reliant system was fitted using up-to-date technology and now works perfectly, leaving the island self-sufficient by using the sun’s energy and storing it in batteries.

My interest in all this is

that I sell solar storage batteries. Subsequently, I am very interested in the whole sun collection project. I cannot see the end of the national grid model! But alterations are going to have to be made in future. So, to accommodate the public’s wishes to produce their own electric power on their own premises,. Neither do we know what new future technologies will be available. Especially for collecting the sun’s power. Significant ideas are coming along all the time.

There is one thing for sure that governments are going to have to face:. Give this greenhouse gas  problem much thought in the years ahead. Of how we use the power of our sun in years to come.

Battery Maintenance Tips: To Survive the winter

Battery Maintenance Tips

My name is James, and I am a spokesperson for Quality Source, a leading UK retailer of lithium-ion batteries for motorhomes. Unexpected battery malfunctions during the winter months can be a real nightmare.

That’s why we have used our expertise to create an article about battery maintenance that I know your readers will enjoy. We will talk in detail about battery maintenance tips that will help you protect your car’s battery from the harsh cold.

This article could not be timed much better, as energy prices soar. So, it looks like this year’s winter will be especially cold for a few households. Some families almost pay triple to heat their homes. The price cap spiked in April 2022 by 54% and is set to increase to 80% in October 2022, according to the UK House of Commons.

Furthermore, the UK is expected to experience scheduled blackouts. It may become necessary for some people in the UK to effectively manage their usage and charge their batteries just to keep the lights on.

6 Tips for my car battery to survive the winter cold: Battery Maintenance Tips

  1. Keep your battery clean: Clean terminals, cables, and clamps help maintain a good connection and ensure that power is flowing properly.
  2. Keep it charged: A fully charged battery is less likely to freeze in cold temperatures.
  3. Insulate the battery: A battery blanket or insulating material can help keep the battery warm in cold temperatures.
  4. Park in a heated garage: If possible, park your car in a heated garage to protect the battery from the cold.
  5. Avoid short trips: Short trips put extra strain on the battery, so try to avoid them during the winter months.
  6. Keep an eye on the battery’s age: An older battery may not be able to hold a charge as well in cold temperatures, so consider replacing it if it’s getting old.

It’s also important to mention that if a battery is nearing the end of its life, it’s more likely to fail even with all the steps above, so a good practise is to have your battery checked by a mechanic to be sure it’s still in good shape before extreme temperatures come.

Gas suppliers are seeing a shortage in the supply of fuel.

which will lead to scheduled blackouts across the UK. Accordingly, these blackouts will be timed for around 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. During this period, households across the UK will have no electricity. Smart ways to deal with these high bills and power outages are to manage your energy well and use it well.

Our cars are essential to our everyday lives, which is why we need to maintain, replace, and repair their batteries during the winter. At the moment, the UK is experiencing a battery shortage. With essential raw battery-making materials in short demand like lithium and cobalt. That’s why we need to stretch the longevity of our batteries as much as possible.

In light of this distressing news: Battery Maintenance Tips

it is important to save and make the most of the energy we have. That’s why researchers at Quality Source, a lithium battery specialist and one of the leading suppliers of high-quality batteries in the UK, are so concerned.

Importantly, you have decided to compile maintenance tips and advice on ways your readers can ensure their batteries remain strong during the winter.

A great afterthought to all this bad news about power cuts Of course, motorhome owners can move out of the house and watch TV, use their computers, or perhaps just play cards! Because all they have to do is keep their batteries charged during the day for use at night! Including the longer-lasting “Lithium Motorhome Batteries now becoming more popular.

Of course, these blackouts (if they occur) will be music to the ears of the wise people who invested in solar panels and battery solar systems.

BMW Mini Battery Replacement: The Winter Problems of a Local Timber Merchant

When your car decides it’s tired of turning over and emits that dreadful click-click sound, it can cause significant inconvenience in the morning. As the weather fell, the wives of one of our local timber merchants had been having trouble starting their BMW Mini.

Anyone who lives in Halifax will now understand how unexpected our winters can be. One day it’s raining and dreary, and the next you’re wondering whether you should have put on your gloves sooner because the windscreen is covered with frost. This Mini was caught off guard by that.

AGM Battery Testing

We thoroughly inspected the Mini when it got to **Pellon Tyre and Autocentre**. There were no overt electrical problems or alternator problems, just a car that refused to start on these clear Yorkshire mornings. We started by connecting our battery tester, and sure enough, the **AGM battery** within was beginning to show symptoms of deterioration.

These aren’t your typical lead-acid batteries, either; they’re AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries. They are made to handle the high electrical needs of contemporary vehicles, particularly those with **stop-start technology**, like this Mini. AGM batteries are perfect for short trips, like this one, going to and from the timber yard and doing errands around town, because they can withstand repeated charge cycles far better than ordinary batteries.

Installing the New AGM Battery

As with any contemporary car, changing a BMW Mini’s battery involves more than just pulling out the old one and installing the new one. These vehicles have several electronic components, and once the battery is changed, it must be **registered** with the system. In any other case, strange electrical gremlins may appear.

We installed a **high-quality AGM battery** that was made especially for stop-start cars and has the proper **cold cranking amps (CCA)** to withstand the chilly Halifax mornings. After installation, we verified that everything was configured properly by using our diagnostic tool to **register the battery** with the Mini’s onboard system.

Winter-Ready

The Mini started up immediately after the new AGM battery was installed; there was no hesitation or difficulty. Knowing that she wouldn’t have to worry about getting stuck on a chilly morning made the timber merchant’s wife very happy.

If we can learn anything from this, it’s that cold weather truly tests your car battery. If your automobile is exhibiting any symptoms of slow starting, it is worth having it checked before winter truly sets in. We provide **free battery testing** here at **Pellon Tyres**, so stop by and let us check your battery if you’re not sure it’s up to par.

Another excellent job, and another Halifax driver prepared for any weather conditions in Yorkshire!

Installing an AGM Battery in the Mini

For this tidy little Mini, we decided to fit a Lucas AGM battery, a brand we’ve trusted for years here at Pellon Tyres. We always tell our customers the same thing — a quality battery is worth every penny, especially with the stop–start systems found in most modern motors. Lucas has been a solid name in the battery world for decades, and their AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) range is built for the tougher demands of today’s driving.

AGM technology is designed to cope with constant stopping and starting, short journeys, heaters, wipers, lights — everything a Yorkshire winter throws at us. The Lucas unit offers strong cranking power, excellent cold-weather performance, and a reliable lifespan, making it an ideal match for smaller engines that still need plenty of punch on frosty mornings.

On top of that, the robust warranty that comes with Lucas AGM batteries gives drivers real peace of mind. It’s reassuring to know the battery will keep going strong through many more winters in the Calder Valley. All in all, it’s a proper upgrade for any Mini that needs dependable power and long-term reliability.

Car Battery Fitting in Halifax – No Hidden Charges, Just Honest Prices

(By Eric Roberts – Pellon Tyre and Autocentre, Halifax)

At Pellon Tyre and Autocentre, we’ve always believed in being honest and upfront with our customers. When we quote you a price, that’s what you’ll pay — no add-ons, no hidden extras, and no surprise “fitting charges” once the bonnet’s up.

That’s especially true when it comes to car batteries.

We’re proud to be Lucas Battery dealers, offering top-quality products that cover everything from small hatchbacks to heavy-duty vans and modern hybrids. But over the years, we’ve seen how confusing battery replacement pricing can be — especially when big chains start shouting about “Free fitting!”

The Truth Behind “Free Fitting” Car-battery-fitting-Halifax

We’ve all seen it — the big national competitors offering “free battery fitting” to tempt customers through the door. But once the job begins, the story often changes:

  • “Sorry, this one’s awkward to get to…”

  • “We’ll need to remove some parts first…”

  • “There’s a small additional labour charge for this model…”

Before you know it, that “free fitting” has turned into an extra bill — sometimes £20, £30 or even more, on top of what was quoted.

We think that’s just not on.

🔋 At Pellon Tyres, the Price We Quote Is the Price You Pay: Car-battery-fitting-Halifax

Here in Halifax, we’ve built our reputation on trust. When we give you a price for a battery — that’s fitted and ready to go.

Some batteries are indeed easier to replace than others, and we’ll be the first to admit that modern cars aren’t always mechanic-friendly. But we take the rough with the smooth.

Whether your battery’s sitting proudly under the bonnet or tucked away in the boot, under the seat, or behind a maze of covers, we’ll do the job properly without adding a penny more.

🧰 Why Some Batteries Are Tricky to Fit: Car-battery-fitting-Halifax

Modern car design has made things tighter than ever under the bonnet. To save space and weight, manufacturers often hide the battery in some very odd spots!

Here are a few examples of cars with notoriously awkward battery locations:

  • Peugeot 308 / 3008 – buried under the scuttle with trim panels that have to come off.

  • BMW 3 Series and 5 Series – batteries tucked away in the boot under trim and plastic clips.

  • Audi A4 / A6 – often behind panels with sensors and ECUs close by.

  • Ford Focus (newer models) – battery boxed in behind air filters and fuse covers.

  • Mini Cooper – battery under the boot floor, with tight connections.

  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class – battery down behind the dashboard area!

Despite all that, we never tack on an “access fee”. If it’s quoted, it’s covered — full stop.
