In early November we received a phone call from a local undertaker. Melia Funeral Services, here in Halifax, West Yorkshire in England UK.
No problem there. Because throughout the year the company normally just have a puncture fixed now and then. This is due to the fact. Hence, that their hearses do not do much mileage. Usually drive at a snail’s pace, when driving to the cemetery or crematorium.
However this call was different. Melias wanted to buy two sets of Apollo Winter Tyres for their hearses. The reason for this was that the hearses were getting stuck on the incline to the chapel in Elland crematorium, and were getting a little embarrassed when getting stuck.
We thought it was a bit funny at first but they had obviously given the problem some thought and were not prepared to get stuck this coming winter. I actually visited this crematorium to take a look for myself, but the incline is not that steep. I think it is because the hearse drives really slowly. In a normal car you could probably take a run at this and clear it easily, even without special Apollo Winter Tyres fitted.

The strange thing is that last winter was the mildest for twenty years and the snowfall was minimalistic. The funeral company have kept the tyres on all year round and now that we are approaching the new cold spell, they will be keeping their fingers crossed that they did not waste their money and we have a couple of spells of snow to try out their new Apollo Winter Tyres
Here in Halifax we are in a very hilly area and sell many sets of these wheels but this is the most unusual reason that I have heard of, the hearses came in and we fitted 2 sets of 22560R16 Apollo Winter Tyres and the hearses won’t get stuck again.(we hope?) .
Hi I would like to introduce myself. Having worked in the Garage and Winter Tyres Business and Battery business now for 40 years. So, I worked for a couple of national tyre companies. Hence, before starting my first business. I now own a company here in the UK called Pellon Tyre and Auto-centre. Blogging about anything to do with cars and their related products. Of course, that will help my business.
