eric Roberts’ insight:

Have lessons been learned about Tyre Damaged on Mars

Well it looks like the Mars Curiosity lander is having wheels problems?. The rough Martian rocks are taking their toll . On the vehicles and the so-called “wheel damage”. As a result, as this article shows pieces of the Alloy are breaking up . Are falling off due to the rough and tough terrain . Of course, that the Martian landscape has thrown at them.

I personally do not know what the treads are made of. Although, I think that they were made at the American Space Laboratory . Consequently, out of aluminium . With a rubber or stronger material bonded to them together with some sort of tread pattern, similar to the wheels and solid rubber tread used on fork-lift trucks here on Earth, but obviously, much lighter, the brightness must Tyre Damagedbe a huge contributory factor. But for tough conditions you would need a different system.

Thus, to prevent Tyre Damaged . Enabling,  the craft to cope with these conditions. Perhaps tyres that would have some sort of low-pressure system. Would have taken some of the brunt of the workload. Particularly, same as the ones used on Earth, such as on the small Utility vehicles used on farms to drive over rugged terrains, these treads are tough to help prevent Tyre Damaged and because Mars has some atmosphere, a small on-board compressor of some kind could keep a low pressure in a more conventional type .

I suppose that these problems may be overcome on future missions, but it could be a good idea to look at the technology that we use on Earth, that has been tested and used over a long period of time. Tyres can now be made of many different materials, not just rubber, to avoid Tyre Damaged, many synthetic and lighter materials are used in today’s tyre industry and this could be coupled with some sort of tyre inflation system that we use at the moment.

SUV Winter tyres for extra safety

It always amazes me the amount of SUV drivers that visit my garage here in Halifax UK, are not aware of the dangers that they face when driving in any kind of winter weather .SUV Winter tyres

Even if it does not snow. So, the cold and wet weather will affect the way that their SUV vehicle. Hence, will perform on the roads, and they will be much safer. Thus on SUV Winter tyres.

I can now say without doubt, that this is a true fact. The article says that the SUVs on summer tyres. Are involved in more accidents relating to the weather conditions. Than on normal type saloon cars. The tyre sizes and overall diameters. Making the SUV vehicles more vulnerable in winter weather. Therefore, there is no doubt that SUV Winter tyres. So, will enhance the safety of the vehicle in winter weather.

SUV Winter tyres

Also many SUV drivers are not aware that their vehicles are only fitted with summer tyres. Of course, when they are first purchased. SUV Winter tyres have to be bought separately. They seem to be lulled into a false sense of security.Especially, when they see that their cars are fitted with big fat wheels and tyres. So, the truth is that this type of tyre will act in the opposite direction. Of course, when they are faced with cold temperatures and rain and snow. Indeed this type of tyre with its wide tread area acts exactly in the wrong direction, and makes the vehicles unstable on the icy and wet winter roads.

As the article states last year the AA alone had to rescue 8000 motorists who were stuck in ice snow and mud, and all this could have been prevented if the vehicle owners had fitted winter tyres. So if you take my advice it is not too late to fit a set of SUV Winter tyres on your SUV particularly, but on any vehicle, foe a safer winters driving.

Winter Tyres Important-Safety is the first priority by fitting these tyres in Winter

Winter Tyres Important

Winter Tyres Important

Winter Tyres Important

Like every other year then Winter comes around again. Here at Pellon Tyres in Halifax it is also a very exciting year. Because it is winter tyre season again. As a result, drivers still ask us about the need for winter tyres. Our answers are always the same.

These tyres are specially made to cope with all aspects of winter weather. Hence, from heavy rain or frosts to the possibility of a big snow storm. So we never really know what the weather can throw at us.

This winter has started out to be a cold one and already drivers are fitting their winter tyres in preparation for what may come our way. Thus the keyword is safety. With winter tyres fitted to your car then you will be ready for anything that winter throws at you. All our customers who fit winter tyres thank and praise us for our recommendations.

Winter Tyres Important-Whats the difference?

Winter tyres generally have deeper tread. Of course, with specifically designed patterns. Allowing snow and slush to be cleared as the car drives through the bad weather. Winters are made with a specific rubber compound that includes a silica compound. Hence, that stays softer and more flexible in the cold weather. As a result, that provides more contact to the road surface and thus more control.

Subsequently, winter tyres are absolutely essential for winter driving safety. If you are lucky enough to be going to the local mountains to ski. In fact some countries snow tyres are often mandatory. Consequently, winters have to be fitted from March to November.

This advice is also applicable to rental cars. Consider renting one with snow tyres in any mountain area. Including vans. Sometimes it will cost a little extra, but it is well worth paying.

When getting out of the city in any higher elevation it is likely you will encounter winter conditions and therefore will require snow tires to get you to where you have to go safely.

Winter Tyres Important-Especially for SUV and all-terrain vehicles

Our terrain here in Halifax is very hilly and rugged in places. Thus many of our customers do fit winter tyres. Especially, with the rise of the SUV vehicle. SUV’s are notoriously bad at gripping in bad weather conditions. As a result, these SUV tyres are the most popular tyres that we fit.

Before the start of the winter. So, you should consider a set of winter tyres. As a result, the best way to keep your vehicle moving and safe. Of course, on the roads during bad weather times. Especially in areas where it is difficult to get around in a vehicle fitted with regular summer tyres. Hence, once you leave the city into open country or a hilly area. Then your need for winter tyres will increase.

Here at pellon Tyres we recommend the award winning Nokian tyres.

Burning Rubber: Tyre Safety Tips for New Young Drivers

Burning Rubber

Burning Rubber

Burning Rubber

Getting your first car is a really big deal. It is a milestone in your life that brings you independence and opens up a vast range of new opportunities. Along with these, of course, there also comes a significant amount of responsibility.

Here we look at some of those responsibilities and in particular, how new, young car drivers can take advantage of some brilliant tyre safety tips for their first car and save money down the line.

Burning Rubber-The Cost of Motoring

It will come as no surprise that owning, running and driving a car is a costly business. The initial outlay for purchasing the car is just the beginning of a long list of expenses that really mount up. Insurance, road tax, MOT, servicing and repairs and then fuel can leave your eyes watering and your bank balance seriously dilapidated. It makes sense then that you should look to save and conserve money wherever possible.

Burning Rubber-Tips on How to Save Money

One of the best ways to save money as a motorist. So, is to only use your car when it is absolutely necessary .of course, there is no need to jump behind the wheel. Especially, if you are only popping down to the local newsagents for a packet of crisps. Only use your car when either distance or time dictates that it is required.

Doing so will mean that, in the first instance, you will save a great deal of money on fuel. Not only that, only using the car when it is necessary will also mean less wear and tear. This is beneficial for two reasons. First you save money in the short term. Secondly you will get a better price for the car when you come to sell it.

Car sharing is also a good way to save money. Taking turns to drive the compute to work. Including college or university is a win, win. So look out for a person who may be interested.

When you are using the car. Don’t forget that the more people that are in the car. Hence, the more fuel it uses and so you may want to be selective about who and when you offer lifts to people.

Financial responsibilities are important, but what is more important are safety concerns.

Burning Rubber-Tyre Safety Tips

There is a whole raft of safety concerns. That relate to driving and looking after a car. Up most in this list is the responsibility drivers have to act properly. Thus, whilst in control of the car. In addition to this, however, is the responsibility drivers have for the safe upkeep of the vehicle. So this also includes its tyres.

Air Pressure and Punctures

Ensuring that all the tyres on the vehicle are inflated to the correct tyre pressure is paramount to safe driving and should be checked on a regular basis. If a tyre is looking low, then heading to the petrol station or using your own air compressor to pump it up is vital. Low tyre pressure often occurs due to a puncture and so the next step is to have it checked at a garage – if there is a puncture, have it repaired or the tyre replaced.

Burning Rubber-Tread

Bald tyres or those with very low tread are dangerous. So ensuring that there is enough tread on your tyres also needs to be checked regularly. To check them place a 20 p coin between the grooves of the tyre and if you can see any of the outer band, then you should have them checked by a professional.

To help keep your tyres well protected, you should clean them regularly using a mild detergent and dress them with a protectant to preserve the anti-oxidant and anti-ozone ingredients they contain.

Finally, sensible driving and not burning rubber will help protect and preserve your cars tyres.

Tyre Care for Women-(This includes Everyone really)

Tyre Care for Women-Don’t think that because you are a woman you are exempt from checking the tyres on your car and making sure it is running well.

While many notice odd sounds as they drive or shaky handling during a trip, tyres tend to get overlooked until you hit a pothole and wind up with a flat. What you don’t realize is that tyres are important in keeping the car in control during a ride. They grip the road and keep your automobile firmly on course. But tyres need care just like any piece of equipment and it really won’t take too much of your time to keep them working well.( We promise).

Point-S logo on Pellon Tyres depot in Halifax Uk

Tyre Care for Women-Tyre Inflation

Make sure your tyres are properly inflated. Not only will this ensure they will be performing the way they should, but it will also increase your fuel mileage, which translates to fuel savings. And we just love the word savings, don’t we ladies? To check the Air Pressure on your own, use a pressure gauge which can easily be purchased at just about any car equipment store. Make sure to check your tyre pressure when the tyres are cold or wait until 3 hours after you’ve driven to check it. Insert the pressure gauge into valve stem of your tyre. The gauge will pop out and indicate a number which will refer to the tyre pressure. To figure out the recommended  pressure for your tyre, look at the sticker found on the driver’s door of your vehicle or in your owner’s manual.

Tyre Care for Women-Tyre Rotation

We’re all for extending the life of a tyre if that means we can defer the expense further into the future. Tyre rotation is one of the recommended ways with which you can get the most out of Tyre Care for Women.  When the tyres are rotated and moved to a different position on your car, this allows them to wear evenly and equally. The recommended  rotation is every 6 months.

Tyre Care for Women-Tyre Balance

Now it sounds odd, but wheel Dynamic Balancing is exactly that- after your wheel is mounted, it is checked for areas that are heavier or lighter. Weights are then added to the interior or

Correct wheel balancing is also important

exterior of the wheel to balance it out. Why do the wheels even need to be balanced, you ask? An off balance wheel can result in wobbly handling of the car or bouncing. This results in uneven tread wear, increased vibration and unnecessary stress on your vehicle. Tyres should be balanced when your purchase new ones, when you have a tyre replaced, or when a

Correct tyre pressures are very important Tyre Care for Women

weight is dislodged or removed.

Tyre Alignment

As technical as it may sound, this is simply adjusting the angle of the wheels in order for the wheels to work as they are intended. Proper wheel alignment will allow for the correct tread wear and will allow the car to travel straight without pulling to one side. While newly purchased cars have their tyres aligned going out of the factory, you should have your tyres aligned if you have hit something substantial like a large pothole or an embankment, if you notice a difference in the handling of your car from before, and if you notice a wear pattern developing on the outer edges of the tread area.

Now that you know what to do to keep your tyres working well, do remember that except for checking your pressure, the other items need to be handled by professionals and experts when it comes to all things that have to do with tyres. Just like you know how to keep your teeth healthy, you’re not going to try and fill a cavity on your own, are you? You would want a professional who knows what he is doing to take charge. The same should be said of your tyres. After all, the tyres are what keep your car gripped to the road. You want them to be handled by someone who knows a thing or two about Tyre Care for Women.

Tyre Care for Women

So where do i start ?

Luckily Point-S has over 160 centres across the UK for your tyre check up. And because they know everything and anything that has to do with tyres, you know your tyres are in good hands.

Where do Waste Batteries go to die?

St. George Daily Spectrum

Batteries are essential to our daily lives. They are everywhere — in our cell phones, lap tops, iPods, kitchen appliances and garden tools.

eric roberts‘s insight:

95% of waste batteries are recycled.

Most of the Waste Batteries that are removed from our cars and trucks are collected by scrap dealers and then they are sent to be Waste and Recycling to a waste battery

Waste Batteries, failing a battery for the re-cycling bin

re-processing plant such as the one used by Exide Batteries.

Waste Batteries

Lead acid Waste Batteries are one of the success stories in the world of re-cycling. Over 95% of the old car, truck and tractor batteries are sent to be re-made into new battery products. Almost all black coloured batteries are made from re-cycling old Waste Batteries a very worthy record.

The complete battery starts out at one end of the process and ends up at the other end as part of a new battery. Even the plastic is broken up into very small pieces and then mixed with new material before been made into a new battery casing. These re-cycled casings (battery boxes) are always made into black batteries because of the mixture of colours, any white or opaque coloured 12 Volt Battery has been made from new materials and therefor has not been re-cycled.

In my opinion this is great news, and makes the lead acid Waste Batteries  greener than people think, which is more than we can say about the lithium-Ion batteries . The lithium-ion battery has not in my opinion stood the test of time regarding both safety and the potential for them to be re-cycled. There is some news though that the lithium-ion batteries that are on the electric cars at the moment, could be used for storing solar energy in a domestic situation.

Suspension Arm Bolts-BMW 1 Series Car- Breaks Suspension Arm Bolts

BMW 1 Series Car in for He found that when the car had skidded and hit the kerb it had snapped the Suspension Arm Bolts

On one of the worse windy and rainy days of the year, one of our good customers was out and about in his BMW 1 series car, 2008 model and found himself having to swerve his car to avoid a broken branch that had just snapped off a tree due to the high winds.

Suspension Arm Bolts

BMW suspension arm bolts showing the sheared off bolt, the other bent

His car skidded and crashed into the kerb, causing damage to the underside of the car, the customer suspected that something had been broken the Front Suspension Arm Rubber Bush, or the Suspension Arm Bolts, and so limped into my garage in Halifax West Yorkshire.

Manager the garage department, Ryan Linton pulled the car onto a ramp to examine the car to see what had happened. He found that when the car had skidded and hit the kerb it had snapped the Suspension Arm Bolts, on the multilink suspension that these cars have.

Also the TPMS sensor lights were illuminated and when checking, the tyres were found to be inflated to the wrong pressures. We now think that this could have caused the car to swerve and hit the kerb, when trying to avoid the tree branch.

The problem was discovered and the hub had to be removed and the broken stud drilled out as the stud had been snapped off flush with the hub. The bolt was drilled out and the hole was re-tapped to take a new stud. The other Suspension Arm Bolts were BMW Parts ( supplied by the local BMW dealer in Wakefield, the nearest one to my garage in Halifax) were also changed and the assembly was re-fitted.

BMW car had low tyre pressures

As I have stated we think that the guys low tyre pressures were the cause of the car correctly not handling when he swerved to miss the branch, we also checked and inflated his tyres and he went off on his way three hours later.

eric roberts‘s insight:

UK Driverless cars ? what a joke?

I think it would be better to rephrase the statement as “uk driverless cars in the South of England”.

Anybody who travels around the North of England would know that our roads in town and city centre are busting at the seams with traffic. We have had very little investment to our road structures here in the North for years. Successive governments have neglected to update the northern towns and cities. They cancelled the tram scheme in Leeds because of the costs, the East West train lines were to be electrified, but that never came off, because of lack of finance, now they can suddenly find some money by selling off their share in Eurostar to fund the development of Gatwick airport along with other projects down in the South, once again neglecting the northern towns and cities.

The only thing that I can think of that the government have done is to widen parts of the M62 motorway. We are desperately in need of a new road infrastructure to take us from North to South, before we completely grind to a halt. We all know what a nightmare it is trying to drive around West

UK driverless Cars

I must now admit that i thought that would not see electric cars being charged on the streets of cities, but they are now here? but i am not sure about the UK driverless Cars

Yorkshire in the rush hour traffic.

Now the government are going to give a £10 million prize to fund a town or city that becomes a testing ground for the UK driverless Cars. What a joke, the name of Milton Keynes has already been mentioned on more than one occasion, so I reckon that it’s a done deal. What chance would we have in the North for driverless cars, we are too congested as it is and one our largest cities Leeds, had to miss about on its tram system.

We do not need UK driverless Cars but a decent road and rail system, especially here in Yorkshire. The North is and will still be starved of investment, never mind this ridiculous idea of driverless cars, what a joke.

Car Safety Tips-for Women Garage Users – (Although Everyone can benefit from Car Safety Tips)

Car Safety Tips for Women

While everyone can benefit from car safety tips, you will have to admit that women are more likely to need these tips to help them out during unexpected and unfamiliar situations. While it would be great if a woman were well versed and equipped to handle wonky Disc Brakes or out of aligned tyres, that isn’t usually the case. Find below some great car safety tips to help you out and manage the unforeseen when you are driving.

When your car brakes fail

Before all else, check if your car is equipped with anti-lock brakes or just regular ones. Knowing this important bit of information will help you determine how to manage when your brakes fail. To know this, when a light goes on with the logo ABS when you start your car, then you have anti-lock brakes. If no light goes on, then you have regular brakes.  If your brakes Car Safety Tipsfail, you need to downshift to a lower gear first. Next, pump your brakes three to four times to build up the brake fluid pressure. If this does not work, your next option would be to use the parking brake. Do this gradually, not abruptly, and be ready for the car to skid. With anti-lock brakes, practice your sudden stops at safe street situations to get a feel of how they should perform.  When you press the brake all the way down, you should feel a strong vibration at the pedal, which will let you know the ABS system is working the way it should.

When car isn’t driving straight

If your car is veering to the left or right even when your steering wheel is straight, chances are your wheels may need to be aligned. But before you head off to have them aligned, make sure to check off other possibilities that may cause your car to tend towards another direction when the steering wheel is straight.

Are you tyres properly inflated? Make sure they are inflated to the recommended  pressure, which you ought to find on the label attached to the driver’s side door. What about the wear pattern? Are you tyres round or are they out of shape? Are there missing pieces or lumps  along the side-wall? Also make sure that all your tyres are of the same type. Having several kinds  on one car can make for an unstable ride.

Once you have determined that there is nothing physically wrong with yours, you should bring in your vehicle for proper and professional wheel alignment to keep your vehicle running properly  and safely.

Unstable steering, clanking and banging sounds while driving, vibrations while driving

This could indicate a problem with your suspension. The suspension system of a vehicle takes the heaviest wear from the road and it is an important part in keeping your car stable while driving and ensures the driver and passenger’s safety.  If you go over a hump and the car continues to bounce up and down, chances are your shock absorbers are worn and may need

Car Safety Tips

Some garages employ female mechanics who are always willing to give Car Safety Tips

replacing. Clanking and banging sounds may indicate that your shocks are getting caught and not bouncing back. Vibrations while driving on smooth surfaces should clue you in to have your shocks and suspension checked because they are not supposed to occur on a smooth road.

They say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It is better to maintain your car properly and routinely in order to avoid any major mishaps. Most Car Safety Tips are useful, but you need to make sure to take your vehicle to a reputable and  professional garage that will ensure outstanding results and keep your car humming for a long time.
